Title: I really want a breast reduction, anybody had one?
Post by: Sarai on November 02, 2013, 08:49:55 PM
I am really desperate to get rid of my boobs, I hate them. I am 51 and up to 1996 had 32A boobs and was content. Then after my last child they ballooned. I recently got properly measured and I'm a 32E. I'm 5'2" and 9 stone. They nearly reach my belly button when let out of bra.
I have had chronic back and neck pain for years. I was told by physio it was posture and to get a new bra. Well I recently agreed to an under wired one, which hate, it's so painful I can hardly breath. I've tried loads, tried standing up tall but I'm in agony.
I had months of acupuncture too.
Some years ago I was going to go private as I assumed I would be considered too small for the NHS but now I'm beginning to wonder if I may qualify.
I gave fibromyalgia already and autoimmune stuff going on and I feel like an absolute wreck right now, with peri stuff too.
Anybody had it done that's my size, what are my chances?

I know that Silver Lady has had this done. I am sure she will be along soon to tell you her experiences.

I sympathise. I'm 5'3" & a 34GG. However, I'm sticking with mine, even though I have back/neck problems. Underwired & broad straps are comfortable. Mine aren't bonnie out of a bra either, but only me & hubby see them that way.
Surgery isn't for me, but I wish you well if you decide to go ahead.

Here is breasthealthonline site for anyone thinking or wanting to know about breast reduction.

The site has recently updated, there use to be a UK forum, but its been amalgamated into one forum, for women all over the world.
You have to be a member to access forum.

http://www.breasthealthonline.org/answers/reduction

This site is wonderful and Annette who founded and runs the site is so supportive and amazing, she has had a breast reduction herself so knows  about everything that all women go through when considering this life changing surgery.

The site is also about all aspects of breast health.

I was very grateful for all the support I was given and hopefully I was of help too to a few UK ladies.

I had a friend who had very large breasts- it caused her endless pain in the shoulders and back, she was self concious and it really affected her. Anyway, she had a fab GP, he listened to her and  :foryou:from then it was a short time before the op. She had it done and she is fantastic!!!!! She said she wished she'd had it done years ago but felt nervous about the operation.
So good luck, chat to your GP and make your informed decision from there,  some great advice here too.
xx

Valient it certainly is up there in the top things that make you feel you "wished you had done it years ago" I bet she has a drawer full of small pretty bras she buys just because she can. :)

Hi Sarai, have you made any headway with the breast reduction yet? Saw my friend yesterday and she continues to grow in confidence- positively glowing- she laughs more too- and looks really great. I just thought about you when we met up.

My Mum prepared me for being flat chested, as before child birth my boobs were 32AA, just like her. However, unlike her my boobs ballooned and did not shrink back. I now have 34F boobs. But I am taller and though slim, have a broader frame, so my boobs have not had a major impact on posture and back problems. I do have problems with buying a bra that fits well. I have only found one style and make that fits and yes it is underwired, which is now causing problems with rubbing and catching on skin tags.
In the 1986, I had a tummy tuck and muscle repair after 2 large babies close together. No amount of tummy exercises could repair the damage. I looked 5 months pregnant when my son was 5 months old. In the ward, there was a lady having a breast reduction for the same reasons as you. This was all done on the NHS, but I suspect that you will have to pay with the financial climate as it is. Do check as you want this done for legitimate medical reasons. I am so grateful that I was able to have my op through the NHS, but we would have re-mortgaged the house, if we had had to seek help privately. You can't put a price on the physical discomfort and distress. Go for it!

I have just had a breast reduction at 65.  Gone down from 36g to 36b and I feel great.  I am now 8 weeks post op and apart from a small problem with my left areola am healing very well.  Wished I'd had it done years ago and would have done if I could have afforded it.  I had my BR done at a private hospital in the Manchester area and have been looked after by my surgeon and team extremely well.  Am happy to answer any questions.

Mr Murphy looked after me while Mr Johnson, my PS, was on holiday.  Both excellent and cannot praise them and the nurses enough for their care and skill. :)

Hi Silverlady, no I havn't seem Mr M's facebook page, tell me about it.  I don't use facebook.  Went to M & S yesterday to be finally be measured for some a new bra, no a 36c which is perfect.  So nice to buy some pretty bras instead of the max support ones I used to wear.  When did you have your BR?

I had my BR in 2007 went from 36E to 36A best thing I have ever done for myself, still form and perky and the scars do fade, at first I could not stop buying pretty small bras, but have finally stopped now, I still have many I have not worn yet.

Here is James Murphy's website, his follow facebook is at the bottom of the page

http://www.jamesvmurphy.com/, he really is one of the best Plastic Surgeons, his NHS work is at Christies Hospital.

Looked at the webpage, Silverlady, but there are two surgeons with the same surname. Mr Murphy who looked after me in my PS's absence is an NHS Consultant and works privately from Spire Regency I think in Manchester.   :)

Sarai, have you had any more thoughts about your BR?  Don't think there is much chance of you getting it done on the NHS, so you may have to go down the private route.  The important thing is to do plenty of research before you start the process. :)

Hi Silverlady, this is getting very complicated! ;D.  Been to see RJ this morning.  He works from Spire at Macclesfield, he is also an NHS Consultant at Wythenshawe Hospital.  Your Mr Murphy is not the Mr John Murphy (also an NHS Consultant) who looked after me for a couple of weeks. :)

You are right mamamia ;D found him though

"Mr John Murphy is a Consultant Breast Surgeon in the Nightingale & Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre, based at the University Hospital of South Manchester"

Both I think are excellent Plastic Surgeons  :)
