Hi Ladies, I have just joined this site, I am 48, don't think I am going through the menopause as yet, but have been experiencing some symptoms of the perimenopause. I am having a blood test tomorrow to check my hormone levels. I missed a couple of periods last year, then had several very heavy periods that followed. I have just missed another period, and have been suffering from anxiety, and insomnia for some time. I get really tired, and my energy levels aren't that good some days. I need to rule out other conditions though, as my mum and sister have underactive thyroid, and I am a insulin dependent diabetic. I suspect I am leading up to the menopause, and would like to know for certain. Hopefully then I can start to feel normal again, thanks for reading, any advice much appreciated. :)

Hi Jagger
Just wanted to say :welcomemm:
Good that you are being chekced out re thyroid and other things. However blood tests are an unreliable test for menopause since hormone levels fluctuate a lot through peri-menopause. Personally, the fact that your periods have become irregular and variable, would indicate to me that you are leading up to menopause "for certain".
The length of the peri-menopausal time period though is very variable for different women and you can't say how long it will last! Interesting back-magazine article on this site about it and lots of other info in the menu on the left.
