Title: Update on HRT
Post by: Kathleen on September 05, 2013, 06:43:02 PM
Hello ladies. thought I'd update you on the results of my GP's appointment today.

I've been taking Climesse for just over three months and noticed a reduction in anxiety after two weeks although other problems didn't really improve very much, still sweating, moody, on edge all the time, tired and fed up. I did notice an increase in irritability and wondered if that was due to the constant drip of Norethisterone. My GP has prescribed Evoral 24mcg patches and Utrogestan, this will be continous combined treatment as I am post menopausal. So far so good, now for the bad news...

The Pharmacy didn't have any Utrogestan so it is being ordered, my problem is I was running low on the old HRT so I've been spreading them out, taking a tablet every other day for a week and then the last three days, nothing at all. Basically I just stopped the HRT.  I'm beginning to wish I hadn't! In under ten days all my old problems have come back to haunt me, I'm incredibly anxious, feel sick, rumbly tummy and tearful, the lot. I am so dissapointed, this may sound crazy but I honestly hoped I'd be fine without the Climesse and maybe even not need the new stuff at all. What is going to happen when I have to give up the hormones in three years when I'm sixty? This whole thing sucks, it really does.

Sorry to go on but these symptoms have ruled my life and my relationships since the day my very regular periods just suddenly stopped and I'm so desperate for it to end. The GP even commented that he thought everything began to improve after three years without periods, I wish, I seem to be getting worse! On the plus side he said my blood pressure was brilliant... well whoop-de-doo.

Thanks for reading and I know you ladies will understand what it's like to hope for the best and then feel let down, once again, by your own body.
Take care.
K.

It's a very small dose of evoril. I was on the 50 patch from the beginning. I hope it's enough to control your symptoms.

I have been off my HRT for nearly two weeks now and apart from the night sweats I am fine. Who knows what the next days and weeks will bring. I have been on HRT for four years and my GP wants me off after five so I thought I would give it a go now.
I hope you settle on your new regime and that you feel much better soon.

This meno lark sucks big time.

There are lots of discussions at the moment about coming off HRT at 60 - you will probably find them if you search.

Just to say I am 60 and have been on HRT for over 6 years and don't intend to come off unless a medical reason means I have to.

Also there is no point worrying now about when you're 60 - make the most of it now and feel as well as you can for as long as you can!

The GP is mistaken - usually around 2 years post-meno the oestrogen drops to its lowest level so long term symptoms (such as VA) may well start to get worse - and for some women flushes go on for much longer too!

Good luck with the new treatment. A few years ago I was put onto 25 mcg patches after I stopped for 3 months and all the symptoms came back (after previously being on 50 mcg). These worked for a while but then symptoms again crept back so was increased to 50 mcg. Estradot also do a 37.5 mcg which is a good compromise if necessary.

It is making me angry that doctors are telling many women that they will be through menopause if they put up with the symptoms.  There are so many women who know otherwise and they are experiencing symptoms for years without knowing when any end will come.  The worst of it is that they are not always able to take HRT or find that the side-effects are not tolerable.  Drying out of tissues is for one thing a long-term issue.  Sorry if I am being negative on this today but we are being fobbed off sometimes.

Hello ladies.
Thank you for your posts, it's so good to hear from other women who totally understand all the problems and dilemmas that come with this menopause malarky.
I'm feeling a lot better today ( so far that is!) and will let you know how the new HRT arrangement goes.
Wishing you all well.
