Title: WiFi on planes
Post by: Taz2 on August 26, 2013, 11:20:15 PM
Two young friends of mine left for New York tonight. They flew out on separate flights and I have been chatting to them all the way on Twitter and Facebook. This is the first time I've done this and I find it strange but also exciting having got used to air travel meaning you are locked out of communication. It must make a long journey more pleasurable!  I am probably like a dinosaur in this respect!

Didn't know you were allowed to use WiFi on planes, so that probably makes me a dinosaur too.  ::)

That's interesting, have always been told to switch wi fi off on planes.....maybe it's longer haul flights only....mine tend to be with ryanair who would probably charge extra for the privilege !!

It was a Virgin Atlantic flight and, yes, you do have to pay for the service. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not - sometimes it must be more relaxing for the hard-pressed business person to know that, at least for a few hours, they are not going to be hounded by people!

Or possibly the opposite Taz - my husband travel to Ireland and Germany regularly for work and it drives him nuts being out of touch which he's traveling (which is one reason he likes to go to Ireland by ferry, as he has internet on the crossing).  If he was going long-haul I think he's have a melt-down!

If he's traveling for pleasure, he doesn't have his work 'devices' switched on.

The only objection I'd have to wifi on aeroplanes is it's just one more way people can drive me insane with their constant key-board thumping, button clicking, key-tone beeping or (god help us) Skyping!!!  Turn the beeps off people, and type quietly (better still - use a tablet!!).

Didn't think you needed a reason CLKD  ;D

I was never terribly keen on flying but I would do it. My worst flight was stuck between two kids who indulged in stereo vomiting. I could not ignore them as they were mine  ::)
Oh the joys of travelling with young children.
After that we had our holidays in this country.  ;D

My worst flight was being stuck on the runway waiting to take off when my small son decided he needed a wee -urgently.!!the stewardess wouldn't let him go to the loo until we were airbourne....it was touch and go for a while and we nearly had to use his "I love Spain" mug that he had bought his friend as a gift!

he's much older now but I always make sure he "goes" before we board...lol !! ;D

Isnt that annoying CG, it amazes me that the parents never stop them.
If you travel first class you don't have that problem.  ::)

I wish! Though we did upgrade to premium economy last year going to & from the Bahamas. More leg room, definitely quieter, at least on the way there. One of these days I will get a bed on a long haul flight.   ::) Oops pig just flew past.
