Hi
Since I've been menopausal my enthusiasm for travelling has dwindled, I'm usually an avid traveller and will go anywhere at the drop of a hat. Recently though I have lost interest to the point where I don't even want to leave the country, has anyone else experience this kind of thing during meno?
Thanks

Sometimes the effort of arranging a trip seems more a bother than enjoyable. What types of holiday have you been on previouslY?

Hi Shellb
I completely sympathise. I couldn't bare the thought of leaving my house when I first started with all these horrid meno symptoms. Hubby had to go food shopping and it was a step forward if I even went out in the car just for a drive. We love our holidays too but so far haven't been away during the time I've not felt well. I think its the thought of feeing ill whilst away from the security of your own surroundings.
Things are improving, shopping is fine now and I can actually go on my own!! Hubby says we're going away next year regardless of how I am, he's threatening to shovel some diazepam down me to get me on the plane if necessary and I actually want to go away myself.
Have you tried a long weekend in this country first just to see how you cope? Dont worry about it too much, if you've not long started with menopause things will improve and you will get your enthusiasm for life back along with your wanderlust.

It is natural to experience all sorts of changes in what we enjoy and I don't think it is just related to menopause as I have male friends who have also noticed changes.
My wise GP (sadly no longer with us) once said that middle aged people often wasted a lot of time trying to be what they had always been and do what they had always done rather than embrace changes and listen to what their minds and bodies are telling them. I think there is a lot of truth in this.

I don't think that many of us don't change as the years go by, it's just difficult sometimes to look forward and not back.
It's stuck in a rut time for some of us. I have been so busy being a mother I have forgotten what it is to be me. That's what I struggle with and I am very aware as I try and work out who I am now time is passing by.

Hi ladies
Thanks for your replies, I have just returned from two nights away in the uk. I had a nice time and each time I started to feel wobbly I just told myself to go with the flow and that I'll be home soon! I'm now home and must say I do like the security of my own surroundings, I will look at going away for a couple of nights again though, I do enjoy travelling normally and I'm lucky to have had a lot of experiences around the world. Although I don't feel upto it at the moment hopefully one day enthusiasm to explore a little further afiel may return.
Thank you

Glad to hear you had a nice time shelb, that'll give you some confidence for future trips and hopefully to go for that holiday abroad.
Did you go somewhere nice? Its the other way around in our house at the moment, i'm raring to go but hubby isn't, been trying to persuade him to have long weekend in uk while weathers unusually hot but he's hoping i'll wait and agree to a late hol abroad. Mmm we'll see.
Take care

Go. Now. A friend of ours was talking in the garden with her husband yesterday when she realised he was no longer listening ........ :'(. Since DH retired we have had 7 people die or been diagnosed with appalling illnesses ........ don't wait until this 'might go abroad holiday' happens. Make the most of our glorious sunshine ..........
