Title: Anyone for tennis
Post by: honeybun on June 24, 2013, 07:09:33 PM
This is my favourite fortnight. Wimbledon....Just great.

I watched the programme last night about Andy Murray. What a nice lad. My son is his double....so many people have remarked on it.

Nadal is the shock result today.

Wonder if this is the year.

Everyone thinks Andy is dour, arrogant. He is just a nice ordinary lad who just happens to play amazing tennis. Watched Federer game. That was a lesson on good tennis. Never thought Nadal would go so soon.
It would be the icing on the cake if Andy won, but there are a few games to go yet.
Fingers crossed though.

I think the programme on Andy showed him for the nice young man he is. He does cry easily which was surprising.

Sorry Nadal has gone out so soon. He is a brilliant player....I am a bit of a fan to be honest.

Federer is sooooo cool.

Just LOVE Wimbledon!  I've even managed to convert my previously ambivilant daughter to it - she's got the Wimbledon app on her phone so she can follow it where-ever she is!  Nadal was a huge shock, but shocks happen at Wimbledon every year - it's one of the great things about the tournament ... makes every match worth watching.

<yawn>  ;D - I did watch and enjoy the Charity match at Queens a couple of weeks ago with Boris, Sir Richard et al - that was humerous and what sport should be about.  Andy certainly came over smiley that evening!

He's obviously a very private person. There is a soft heart in there!  When he's off court & relaxed he is so different.
Loved documentary on him.

I just can't see the point in it! I don't like any sport though, not just tennis, so I haven't got anything against the game I just don't "get it"!  I think it's because I don't seem to have a competitive bone in my body and without the urge to win sport fails to have a meaning.

I'm not competitive these days.  I don't understand tennis.  I can't stand the noise that 'they ' make when serving.  Why not toss a coin then head for the pub.  ;)

Where's the fun in that CLKD?  ;). Tennis is the only individual sport I really enjoy watching.

Golf is the only sport I watch on the tv. Never played it, never will, but I enjoy watching.

Watch golf too, sometimes. My family all golfed, never given the opportunity to try, but that's a whole new ball game.  ;D

Love tennis and used to play, occasionally wave a racket in the vague direction of a ball, but I can't run any more  ::)
Love football too - well the skilful stuff, not kick 'n rush.
I've played (at) golf - I am hopeless at it. Would rather play it than watch it though. I love sport, but not all sport. F1 drives me insane  ;D

I understand frustration at the game not going your way when you're used to it doing so, but you don't hit a ball flat out right at your opponent, like Federer just did.

Goodness what a day!  Nerves in shreds Federer gone!

Gob smacked.

Gives Andy a better chance but a Wimbledon without Nadal and Federer is a very strange thought.

I do hope Federer gave his opponent a decent apology after that body smash. Just as well the guy ducked. I always thought Federer was so even tempered too. However, think there may be more surprises to come yet.
As for those who said the grass was "dangerous,"me thinks it was more sour grapes than anything else. After all it was the same for everyone.

Not been on the forum for ages with one thing and another.  Was browsing through this morning as I was surfing the net.  I saw this post and couldn't resist joining in - hope that's ok!

I am the biggest Wimbledon fan ever - what a day of shocks yesterday.  Anyway on sat we are packing our bags and heading down london as I have secured tickets for ladies semi finals! To say I am excited is an understatement.

Did anyone see dustin brown yesterday - omg he is gorgeous!   ;D

Totally agree re Dustin Brown - I really hope he gets though a few more rounds (he's entertaining to watch play, too!).

I can almost feel your excitement - you must be buzzing!  Have a fantastic time, and don't overdose on strawberries!!

Lucky you H&S! Whilst you are there, can you have a word with Sue Barker about her hair. She used to keep it so nice, not sure what's happened to it recently.

Dustin Brown is very easy on the eyes!  ;D  :hotflash:

  so is Mark Webber  :-*

How about the tennis shoe debarcle then ........ orange under-soles on the new Nike which were banned as everything at Wimbledon has to be white.  Now someone should have known better and I can't see Nike new design selling much anytime soon  :whist:
Title: Re: Anyone for tennis

Girls don't get pulled up for their knickers though, so can't see what the problem is. Considering everything else is pure white, I think it's quite nice to see some colour.

I seem to remember many years ago that one of the women, think it was Margaret Court, was ordered off to change as she wasn't wearing all white.
Title: Re: Anyone for tennis
Post by: Scampi on June 28, 2013, 06:44:49 AM
Maybe the problem with the shoes was the fact the soles were fluorescent orange - fluorescent colours (even as accents to an otherwise white outfit) are specifically banned in the Wimbledon dress-code.  Silly of Nike to design something that broke the rules, and equally silly of Roget to wear them!

I totally agree Scampi .......

Anyone see the dreadful photo of Scarapova in the Press today  >:( - I would sue!

As for Sue - can't see a problem with her hair  :-\ ???

Silly question time again, sorry.

Why do receivers of ball squat down before server hits ball? Told you it was silly. Maybe Trey will know.  ;)

Serena wearing very similar tennis shoes to Federer. Will she get telling off?

Is it not supposed to help them be poised to move quickly. Or on the other hand.....Not got a clue  ;D

I always wanted to tell Nadal to stop adjusting his pants every two minutes. He is a millionaire, surely he could afford pants that fitted. Anyone doing that in our house is told to stop doing a Nadal.   ::)

Jochovitch looks unbeatable.....He plays brilliant tennis.

Laura Robson is a sweet girl. Hope she gets a bit further in the competition. Don't think she is up to winning yet though.

I thought the moment at the end of the match when they smiled at each other was lovely.
It was the clash of the titans. They must be superbly fit to play at that intensity for over three hours. An ice bath awaits.

Have to admit I cried. Children hugely embarrassed but who gives.

Our boy won and I am so delighted.

77 years since a Brit won on the 7th day of the 7th month.

It was our time.

I did find his girlfriends face quite funny she got whiter and whiter. Oh and scary Judy cried.

All is right in the world.

Go Our Andy.

I can't understand talk of Andy Murray being grumpy, etc, just because he doesn't smile much on court.  I don't smile when I'm concentrating on something at work - and I don't have to live with the thought that, if my concentration slips for a minute,  the whole country will call me a loser!!!

When he's not playing (and not just come off court after a tough match - which idiot thought accosting players while they are still dripping with sweat to ask them stupid questions would make for good interviews?!!!), Andy is laid back and cheerful enough.  He's a very private person, and that should be praised in these days of celebrity obsession.

Well done Andy - it was a fantastic match.

I agree Scampi.
My cousin's son is a friend of Andy. He is a very private person. Don't know how he'll manage to remain so now! Good luck to him.

:bounce:  I had to watch  ;D - I don't like tennis. But our Boy Did Good!  I have to add that although I have found him dour over the years, when I think how I fail to react particularly when depressed or anxious - someone said recently 'you look really pretty when you smile' .... which apparently isn't something that my face is familiar with  ::)

F1 was quite good too and there's the Tour - rest day then a 'time trial' tomorrow - and of course, all this sport and the  :sunny:  ::)

We were in Notts, but daughter's partner recorded it as we were out for the day.  Have to say I was so emotional at the end! So was our daughter and she only watched the final game. But what a match!
Andy seems well grounded, keeps himself to himself. I hope he manages to stay that way!
