Perfectly OK moonbeam in  fact HRT as well as other drugs can deplete some vitamins and minerals.

This might help http://www.gp-training.net/training/tutorials/clinical/gynaecology/hrt.htm

Low dose hormone replacement therapy (HRT), when combined with adequate calcium intake and vitamin D levels, can prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women.

My GP has prescribed Calcichew D3 Forte along with estrogen patches for the last 10 years. I also take magnesium to balance the calcium.

Hi again

even if I have had a total Hysterectomy,   I also suffer from acid reflex badly, had a endoscopy and all they said was my esophagus was inflamed, so I dont want to take anything to upset that, I dont take anything for it as I was on Omperazole but it never worked, thanks for your help x

Omega 3, Vit D3 will help with inflammation and magnesium helps with connective tissue issue and irregular heartbeat.  Most are deficient in D3 and mag.

Hi   I take Docters Best chelated magnesium, only been on them for two days and have noticed terrible bad stomach, diarrhea and nausea, was on the Asda own brand and never had this bad of diarrhea . Also I take B Complex and Prozac, I am great on the Hrt , I do have headaches and a bad back and thats why I take the Magnesium but I also have an inflamed stomach, do you think the Docters best Magnesium is the cause of my upset stomach and do you think Vit D will help :)

Sounds pretty uncomfy moonbeam! I have found this info on chelated magnesium http://www.ehow.co.uk/list_5787451_side-effects-chelated-magnesium.html   It has various positive and negative side effects. It may be that it doesn't mix with the other things you are taking?

Hi I tried half the dose today and not as bad diarrhea  but my I still feel sicky  and all day I have had a headache, plus a burning stomach and feeling a bit not with it, all this mostly went when I used the cheap Magnesium but will  the chelated version cause these problems after only taking them for 2 days, I did try the magnesium with calcium and that also caused major diarrhea so i think its best to stop the expensive ones and stick to cheap ones, I am sorry for moaning but for the last month I thought I was getting better, things were on the up but for the last 2 days I feel crap and the only thing that has changed is the Magnesium, can anyone help please :)

do you think it's defiantly the magnesium making you feel so rough ? not anything else, i know that my stomach does not tolerate much in the way of vitamins etc and if i try things and they upset my stomach i try and drink as much water as possible for a few days to flush it through.
|I do hope you feel better soon, feeling nauseous is the most horrible feeling x kerrie

Sorry you are still feeling horrible Moonbeam. Can I ask who told you to take magnesium? Are you sure you actually need it?

I am not sure when the best time to take HRT pills is - I didn't last long on mine as they gave me stomach ache and made me feel sick plus I got bleeding all the time so I went back onto patches.

Have you tried any antacids to try and calm your tummy down. Zantac or something a bit stronger.
You might have irritated your already delicate stomach and it can take a while to calm down.

I do sympathise, it's wrotten feeling this way.

Milk of magnesia has always been used for the symptoms that you describe

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2352139/Milk-Magnesia-disappears-British-shelves-ingredients-fall-foul-EU-meddlers.html so much so that there was an outcry when it was taken of the shelves due to an European regulation, but is being brought back. I prefer the American version which is unsweetened, you can get it on amazon.

I am sure that magnesium per se is not the cause of your symptoms, what it can do is loosen your bowels if you take too much and make you go to the loo. It could be that the type and brand of magnesium you are taking does not agree with you, so you must stop them and if your symptoms continue make an appointment with your doctor.

One thing I would never take supermarket own brand vitamins and minerals.

Hi all  I really dont know what it is, got the docters on Monday but I have no confidence in them, my stomach problems have been going on for about 1 yr, as I said before had a endoscopy and all they said was my stomach was inflamed, didnt say what to do or nothing, I was told by one young GP is the oral HRT is fine on the stomach but people on here tell me it isnt, I did try the patch but I didnt feel it was stronger enough, I would have be ok and then just over 2 days I would have a low, Estraderm mx 50g and same gp said there isnt a stronger one so I went back on the pills, whenever I eat the well bad nausea and burning and in the morning I go to toilet at least 3 or 4 times, and it isnt diarrhea , need help :'(

Found this  http://www.channel4.com/health/microsites//0-9/4health/body/hal_indigestion.html

As for HRT, anything stronger then Estraderm 50 have been discontinued, but there are other brands, also there is Estrogel. I don't know your HRT history so not sure what to suggest.

When you go to GP on Monday I would ask for more tests and second opinion.

Moonbeam, sounds like you are having an unpleasant time, I use Estradot and they have a 50 to so you could try a 75 or 100 if you felt 50 was not enough, one good tip I got on here was changing the patch every 3 days and I change it in the morning . This really helped me. I use magnesium spray as a deodorant and I doubt the magnesium is causing all those symptoms but know that people tolerate it better in spray form, :P

Also if it stings, mix the magnesium oil with some moisture lotion or cream and apply.

Epsom salts are magnesium to, just sprinkle a little in your bath and soak, it softens the water too.

H thanks for all your kindness, my hubby thinks I shouldnt go back to the patches but I need to do something, I have stopped the mag, 2nd day of no mag, do you think B complex is ok to take as I am very stressed person and the Prozac 20mg is not great, as you said there are others patches to try and they surely got to better on my stomach than pills,  not sure were to ask for some PPI eg  Lansoprazole as Omperazole  didnt help  :)

Hi Moonbeam

I also use Magnesium Spray (Better You) which suits me.  I do not use it every day.  I also use magnesium flakes in my bath.   Silverlady said you can mix it into body lotion if it stings a bit.  You can also dilute it a little at the beginning with mineral water.

You can actually make your own by using magnesium flakes and mineral water.  Although it is called an oil, it is a mix of magnesium and water.

I also use the Better You Vitamin B12 mouth Spray and the same make of Vitamin D3.

I am sorry that you are trying so hard to feel better and you are not having the result you are looking for.

You can get your magnesium levels checked at the doctor.  Also your vitamin D levels.

Fx

Hello

I have also had similar problems to you with the acid reflux and also with magnesium making IBS worse.

I have also had the endoscopy and it came back clear been on omeprazole for about four years sometimes seemed to work mostly didn't  but now I have got so bad with it they think I have a stomach ulcer and have to have the camera down again. The good news is they have given me Nexium (finally asked before but they would not change think it is more expensive) and there has been a slight improvement from last week and I started it on Thursday.  I also had a  hysterectomy then had to go back for ovaries to come out due to endo and have done menopause cold turkey as I found I was worse on HRT and could only take the HRT with progestogen in.  I am still flushing for Britain 6 years later do not know if it will ever stop but just wanted to say you are not alone with this I understand totally what you are dealing with.. and I hope you can get some Nexium and that it will help you. My sister in law swears by it she says it is the best PPI.

Best wishes

Hello again Moonbeam

I know what a horrible condition it is.  I had weeks on the omeprazole where it did not seem too bad and then it would flare up and be really awful again. I have a friend I went to school with who has it as well..she is also on omeprazole and they sometimes work and sometimes don't  ??? We go for a coffee every week but now its got that we have to have de caff instead of the real deal and we can't always have the cake due to the fat in the butter icing so end up having rock cakes which usually are alright.  I used to like a mild curry sometimes but cannot touch anything like that now but can sometimes get away with chinese if it is not too spicy.  As for alcohol I can't even go there although I have got away with a shandy on occasion.  I hope the Lanazprazole work for you. How much are you on?  I am taking 40mg of Nexium all at once before the evening meal.. I was taking 20 mg of omeprazole in the morning and 20 mg in the evening before.  I hope you feel better soon .

Best wishes

Hi I was given 30mg of lansoprazole but I did notice when started on the Omprazole I was getting a very bad head but didnt think of it thought maybe it was the weather :P but then I took a lansoprazole and had the same real real bad head,  so today I never took one and I have been ok so I think its those pills, my Gp is ringing on Friday to see if I can get a different one, you said you are on Nexium are they good as I need something as my poor stomach is crap today , thanks for you reply xx

Hello

Well I think so far the Nexium has made my stomach a lot better than it was this time last week which was the worst it has ever been.. the doc thought I may have an ulcer. I think its still early days yet as it needs time to heal. It is more expensive than the other ones. Do you sleep flat at night? I have books and a pillow under the mattress and two pillows on top of that. You are meant to sleep on your left side if you have reflux but although I try to sometimes I end up turning over.  There is an operation you can have to stop it but I don't fancy that.  Do not know why some people get it more than others but I know it runs in our family. My little grandaughter aged 8 is already on omeprazole and gaviscon as her cardiac spincter never closed and my Auntie has not even got one. :o I never had problems until I was forty four thats when it started and it got worse after I had the hyst and the ovaries out.  Hope you get some relief soon.

Best wishes

to moonbeam what hrt are you taking the right one makes you feel like a new woman you have to go thru a few like myself to find the one to suit yourself..I take magnesium mine is Oxytarm with added vit c, I take two every night increased from 1..its a hydroxide formula which cleanses the colon naturally like a laxative, allso it stops bloating and clears your skin..lots of makes don't dissolve in in your stomach or have a reaction..on the hrt again try Climesse 2mg of estradiol and 0.7mgs of norethisterone..Makes me feel me again..brilliant.. paty

Hello Moonbeam glad the Lanzaprazole is working ;D my stomach pain is a lot better though I still have a lot of heartburn and indigestion but I think it takes a while to heal if it has been really bad.. my doc told me if its an ulcer it takes two months and from other posts on gerd elsewhere if it is all inflamed in there it takes a while to settle down after going on the pills. I am taking gaviscon after meals as well which is what the specialist in charge of my grandaughter has her do she is on four times a day gaviscon and omeprazole. Does not seem to bother her thankfully and she is always eating loads. Personally I think the indigestion thing is worse than the hot flushes and I think it starts up for a lot of people at this time due to poor muscle control with no estrogen. I can only take HRT with progestogen cos of my endo and that makes it worse  and makes me grumpy as well (like I'm not grumpy enough already :o) so thats why after trying HRT for six months after the surgical meno I decided to go cold turkey without HRT. At least its cooler now I could not handle that heat at all.

Hope you continue to improve.

Forgetful x
