Had a bit of a nap - really overcast and dull here but seem to have woken up with my logical head on.......do you think that as the majority of us seem to put weight on whilst being menopausal that as soon as we get to peri menopause and ..HOPEFULLY.... near the end of this blasted thing that it only seems logical that we then start to lose the weight and get back to how we were before we started this ruddy thing???
I remember talking to a friend of mine years back when I said "Bloody Menopause, only got to look at a cream bun and its glued itself to my hips" and her reply was don't bother trying to lose weight now because near the end of the menopause it'll just melt away........only saying as I seem to have old lady legs now..y'now..knobbly knees and not a lot of fat round the thighs...not so attractive but not that bad either, will need to get the sewing machine out and of course my cyclinng machine
Anyone else think the same?

Thought Peri Menopause came first?
Nice thought though........

Limpy - I think you're right ::) Probably mean the start of it or early stages..............

Genetics!

Wishful thinking perhaps.
Its not called the change for nothing. Your metabolism slows as you get older so therefore we are supposed to eat less.
Not easy though.

It's the eating less bit which does my head in.
It seems so unfair, especially as OH just has to look at a bike for weight to fall off ::)

Sorry grumpy but you will never get back to how you were before you started the meno journey. The high oestrogen is responsible for our womanly shape (pear) - fat on hips and thighs, nicely defined waist, and when this falls we become more android ( masculine shape) with skinny thighs, less of a bum and that wonderful layer around the middle ( must do some more sit ups).
As honeybun says we have to eat less and as soon as I realised I was starting to put weight on I switched to a smaller plate for my main meal so that I would eat less and try and eat a fairly low fat and minimal cakes/pastries/crips etc diet.
You have to make the best of it with diet and exercise and keeping the muscles strong round the abdomen and consciously pull yourself in, good posture and you can still look and feel OK though!
Tough I know but really when you get used to it, it becomes second nature.
I do sometimes look at younger women and their figures wistfully and think I was like that a few years ago!!
Hey ho - no point in getting depressed about it.... we're post-meno for a long time!!!

Don't cut out, cut back!
i.e. - if one has a baked spud with cheese, beans, butter, salt - then have the spud but put salt and cheese rather than all 4 ..... that way the stomach will get used to eating a little less every day. I have junk days ::) - others I am OK with lots of freshly prepared foods plus a little fruit. Oh and don't forget the chocolate though I haven't fancied any recently :P

I had one of those health check ups recently and was told I could do with losing a bit of weight. Easier said than done sadly, but I am going to try. She says with her fingers crossed behind her back ;D

I've lost weight, same food just least of it. Well most of the time. ;)

I've put on loads of weight since I started going through the menopause. I am really depressed about it, hate looking at myself in the mirror. I am trying to cut down on what I eat but it isn't easy, I seem to feel more hungrier since being menopausal than before. I do hope the weight will gradually drop off so to speak once we have gone through the menopause.
