This is probably NOT the correct place to air this but I am so saddened to see the horror on TV of the horrific, aggressive attack on the young soldier in Woolwich. I don't know what the world is coming to and fear for our children and grand-children. I sit here watching the news and see his amazing family, so proud of everything Drummer Lee Rigby achieved in his very short life. My heart goes out to them all.

Its upset and horrified me too, I come from a Service family and I know what all Military families are feeling after watching the terrible events yesterday.
My heart goes out to the family.
-
I cried as I watched his family.
My boy is 24, handsome, with his whole life in front of him.
There by the grace of God go I.
What is our world turning into.
I could not say on here what I would do to the animals who did this. Just say they would never see the light of day again. They don't deserve it.

It is so heartbreaking and it really brings it home to me what is going on in other countries all the time. I guess we don't know how many incidents such as this are thwarted before they can be carried out.
Our world has always been troubled it's just that it has not often happened on "our" streets.

Why though.
Why is this happening.
Our whole world is changing and I really don't like what I see.

It's always happened in quite a few parts of the world but it hasn't reached here - now it is here too due to the movement of people from one country to another. As with every population you have good and bad. In these days of the internet where people can connect with each other instantly then the world becomes a very small place. I suppose I mean that, yes, "our" world is changing but a lot of the world has been like this for some time.
I don't like it either.

Perhaps you look back with rose tinted glasses but things seemed better years ago.
We don't have the cultural mix in my little part of the world. The one thing we did have was religious devisions. It's really the only thing that we have had.
I watch the news with disbelief these days. The minority groups seem to be so protected and the rest of us have to sit back and watch.
Yes there have been dreadful atrocities in other parts of the world. But now it is in our society and some have such hatred for the country they live in.
Where does it stop.

Weren't the women brave who asked if they could go to the man and comfort him (although sadly he was already dead) and the woman who confronted one of the killers and asked why he had done it.
The whole thing was just too horrifying - I couldn't believe it had happened here at first.
Again, I do wish they wouldn't ask those poor families to go in front of cameras when they have suffered such a terrible loss.
I also felt that the news was too graphic - imagine if it was a member of your family. To see and hear all the awful details over and over again. I realise that in this age of mobile phones, many more images are available to the media than ever before but all the same, I do think there should be some restraints.
It's become a very frightening world

The religious divisions seem like nothing compared to nowadays. As for TV channels showing those pictures - someone should get into serious trouble over that. Young children watch the TV, very impressionable.
I couldn't watch the family on TV tonight, far too upsetting. Why do they always do this? Sensational journalism.
There have been so many awful news stories this week.
-
I think everyone has already said everything I have thought on this truly shocking event, apart from that yet again these people were already on the radar! Why can't they do something about known/suspected radicalists? Totally agree about too much media coverage on the horrific details and how the poor family will ever get over this, I don't know. :'(
-
I was in tears watching the family on the news :'(
I just think we have gone too far here in the UK with Political Correctness... and I remember a famous speech from Enoch Powell but sadly I think he was right...
-
Can't even begin to imagine how the family move forward from this.
To be honest I don't think you can.
I don't consider myself to be prejudiced in any way toward anyone.
I think my feelings are changing.
I don't want this in our country.
There are so many more things I want to say but I suspect I would be chucked off the forum.

I think media to blame. They get their teeth into something & don't let go! Sky TV in particular are bad for this. Therefore we feel that things are maybe much worse than they actually are. Or is that just me trying to remain positive?
-
We had it in Northern Ireland. There is a lot still going on 'over there' that the media don't report. I wish that if we hugged someone close that the hug would ripple like a stone on a puddle. Sadly people have pent up anger .......... we went on the Crusades and now the Muslim World are getting their own back.
How was it obvious that he was a Serving Soldier?
I think that the individual events are really bad, but the media can drag them out. Think of how many are never reported .... :-\
-
He was in uniform CLKD.
How did this work. Did these animals wake up and think this is the day we will kill a soldier.
Anyone will do.
Any street will do.
How does anyone's mind work and what chance do we have to stop these things. There are many disaffected young men being radicalized and are prepared to do these things.

I don't think he was in uniform - wasn't he wearing a Help for Heroes t-shirt?

I'd heard he was wearing A Help for Heroes t-shirt.
-
I thought he was in uniform. No matter. Why on earth did he stand out enough.

Perhaps all he had to do, was be male and be in the vicinity of the barracks......
Heard on the news today that the police can't interview the attackers until they are well enough to be discharged from hospital.
It doesn't seem right that they are treated with such consideration.
-
It's because any evidence they gather wont be admissable in court if taken while they were under the influence of drugs. No point in gathering the evidence if it can't be used I suppose.
Taz x
-
You are obviously right
It just seems wrong somehow.....
-
I assume that when these "xxx!!!'s" are discharged from hospital, they will be thrown behind bars and not sent home to recuperate ???
Meggie
-
Oh yes they will be sent to prison and be given sky tv in their rooms and every other privilege in case we contravene their human rights. Can't have them suffer now can we.
Cynical...Me....too right.

..... and me. Why were they shot in the legs, do the Police need evidence about other aspects of this event? None of us know how we would react when faced with such horrors.
-
I am glad they did not kill them. They need to be punished. I suspect they will be in solitary for ever.
Even criminals have a code of what is accepted and this is not.

I think they assumed that they would be killed and would die as martyrs so I agree with you HB. BUT it costs a lot to keep people in jail for life. Should we be paying for that? No easy answer :(
-
It is unusual to have the perpetrators of such a crime to still be alive. Normally the honour is in dying for the cause so they kill someone but then also kill themselves. This is an opportunity for the police to find out just what was behind this particular killing.
Taz x
-
No we should not be paying for them to stay in luxury for the term handed by the Judge. Maybe a small open boat in the Bay of Biscay would suit >:(
-
I heard a view today, that they should be used for medical experiments.
Of course, they would be well looked after, so no possibility of cruelty......
-
How about a hole in the ground and bread and water.
Probably more than they deserve.
Honeyb

The worrying thing is that no matter what happens to them there are countless more willing to carry on where they left off.

That's the very very scary bit.

Sadly we are seeing cultures dont mix I kow its not PC but for the most part sadly its true
I hate to say it but Old Enoch may have been right to some degree
IM sure there are many Muslim people out there who are decent and good BUT they say nothing
They live apart as if the very idea of mixing wiht the Idigoenous Britons isnt something they want
It was just Iraq Iran middle eastern and that didnt really affect us cos not that many migrated
But the Pakistanis and some Indians and now we have Nigerians Sudanese Ethiopins
They dont like our way of life thats fine they have every right to feel like that BUT not when they are living in UK/
They want what we have houses cars jobs education medicines etc BUT not our JUdeo/Christian /Athiest lifestyle
They even the med muslims dont like it They live in Enclaves Now as a migrant myself
I understand wanting to be with peorpl with same values culture etc Cos Ozz is different to UK
but CHristian atheist migrants WE dont build our own schools and Churches set ourselves aprt but they do
Its the same here in Ozz though so far thank god no violnce like UK though we have had riots even here again MUSLIM
ITs so sad I dont hate anyone who ever they are where ever they come from BUT time and tides coming
Maybe its time in the Western world that we stopped migration for a bit stop stand breath try see what can be done They say they feel alineted so do Indig youths Evwen the younger women now gladly wear the veil think its sets them apart and makes them special makes them better than us! Kowne is better or worse but also knowne asked us peoles did we want our country culturaly changed no all aprties gotr it in their heads why me I say votes
Something has to be done before not only loonies but the poorer Briths people say enough and Id hate to see that
I dont care what religion anyone is or colour as long as they are nice and prepared to stand up to someone whos doing wrong Perhaps it might come that People who feel genuinly disaffected could be given money and return to the land if not of their bith then of their Parents with an undertaking they give up the British birthright
Also the stopping of any more African Muslim migration they seem even poorer in education and money I dont know why a migrant like that is allowed in my dinlA is married to my son who was born and bread in UK till he was 10
They are married yet she cant have a British passport under any curcumstances UNLESS they go live in UK for 2 years
Its the unfairness of rules like that Or when my MUM died here in Ozz in 1992 they wanted $25.000 deposit for him for 2 years YET this year alone weve had 24.000 Boat poeple arrive we wonder why wicked people like the BNP arise
I just want everyone to be happy to live in harmony but it aint ever going to happen
