Can I please have some thoughts.
I'm off to France for a few days and it looks as if its going to be much hotter than here.
I wondered if it would be too much the title if I wore my leggings with trainers/sandals.
I'm 60, 5'6'' size 14/16 but thin legs. I really don't want to be a real freak ;D ;D and I don't have money to buy a whole set of summer trousers which I'll prob never wear again.
I was going to wear my jeans but am worried I'll cook, D*****ed meno hots :hotflash:

Leggings are fine I think as long as you wear them with a longish T shirt or blouse to cover your bum.
Not that I am saying you have a big bum but it just looks better. ;D
Long as you are comfy and confident that's the main thing.

Blue here are some ideas http://flattering50.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/begging-for-leggings.html
-
Hi Blue.
I do have a big bum, but I wear leggings with long shirts/tunic tops and dresses.
Apparently its quite trendy and acceptable to do this.
I layer up if its cold an am able to peel off if I get the "hots".
Leggings are acceptable with sandals, shoes and trainers according to my neighbours granddaughter. (Aged 22) ::)
Hope this helps. Good luck ;) :)

Blue, you are a similar weight and size to me. I love leggings but because of thin legs, can sometimes look a bit like Max Wall if I'm not careful!
I think leggings that end just above the ankle, worn with sandals and a tunic top or mini dress will look fantastic. Just make sure the top is not too short as it can look like you are wearing an overly short dress with tights rather than leggings.
If you have very thin legs, I wouldn't wear trainers with leggings as they will look a bit too clumpy. Have you got any ballet pumps or loafers? They might look better.
Above all though, just enjoy the break ;)

Leggings do look good with long t shirts, blouses, dresses.
Flattering
Take 1 pair jeans in case it's cold?
Just seen Ariadnes comments about ballet pumps, that would look really good, and they could be used again
-
Cropped trousers are good too - cooler, and can always be worn around the house. Leggings would also be fine with long tops.
-
I love leggings and wear them a lot with dresses and long tunics. They look fine on any age. I always buy good quality ones though because they fit better and don't go baggy. My newsest ones are from Phase 8 and are wonderful.
The only times leggings look awful are when overweight women wear them with short T shirts or tops. Oh, and there's a woman I know who wears court shoes with hers AND a short top and she looks atrocious.
I usually wear my fave biker boots with my leggings and in the summer fit-flops or some other sandals.
Have a lovely time.

I regularly go to Nice in France as I know someone with a flat there. I generally wear those knee length crops or cotton trousers (Not sure what they are called but bought 3 pairs in the French shop Cameiu - have a look at the website for ideas) Wear with a nice top and maybe flat shoes in the day. They sell a lot of those and also linen popular there. It is both glamorous and casual in Nice and anything goes, so I shouldn't worry to much as everyone has their own style ;) x
I would suggest a sun hat in the summer.
They are an eccentric bunch the French and anything goes. I remember seeing a macho looking man walking along the street with 2 little pampered poochy dogs in a hand- bag!! ;D

NOT with joggers
But plain black white ones etc but plain ones are tickety boo with nice sandells
Long tops to cover bum (ive a biggie too hehehe)
BUT not the ones you see that are delcate little sunflowers on the ankles and they grow in to great big sunflowers heh
Have a wonderful trip enjoy yourself

Arent leggings just as hot as jeans though? They are made from man-made stretchy material. To me that's a recipe for thrush ::)
I cant bear anything tight around my waist and leggings have elasticated waist which is a no-no as far as I am concerned so I'm with Pixie on this: baggy-ish cotton crops or cargo pants. Nice and loose, cotton mix. Lovely :)
-
Cheers everyone, thanks for your advice. I'm going to take a couple of both to suit all weather.
And guess what I found in the loft, short baggy summer (capri?) trousers. Now what were we saying about hoarding in the other thread ;D ;D ;D I'd forgoten I had them.
I find jeans can be very uncomfortable, button always seems to stick into my tum.
I live in leggings at home. Fit great under the boiler suit.
Now there's a thought, baggy, cool and covers all the podgy bits
Wonder what they'd think of that in France.
-
That's a brilliant find then :)
I dont like jeans either. Now boilersuits...:)
-
Wish it was warm enough here for leggings! Me, I've just bought some roll up trousers, ever so comfy and should be good with sandals when summer comes. ;D
-
Anyone know where (and if) you can buy cargo pants?

Sigh. I really like the print combats but why do they start at size 14?

Ladies - I have just found the most comfortable jeans ever! They arrived today and I love them. I hardly ever wear jeans because I find them uncomfortable but just have a look at these. They are on JD Williams site - just type Jersey Bootcut Jeans. I better tell you now - they are not cheap (£30) I've never paid that sort of money for jeans before but I thought if they were comfortable it would be worth it. I thought they would be awful and that I'd be sending them back but I love them.
They are just like wearing leggings but they look just like real jeans. They are NOT jeggings
I'm going to wear them for work tomorrow (dress down day Fridays) so I'll let you know if they live up to my expectations.

Let us know how comfy they are after a day's wear ariadne. I've had a look and they are high waisted by the look of it. I like low waisted as they dont hurt my tummy so much.
-
Yes they do look very high waisted - almost Simon Cowell height - on the model but maybe that's because she's so thin. They don't look like that on me. They sit at normal waistline. Also they do not have a rigid waistband - it's jersey, so shouldn't dig into sensitive tummies. I can't stand anything tight round my waist so I have high hopes for these jeans.
Will let you know tomorrow evening :)

I cant either. I treated myself to some lovely Per Una summer trousers (they are a bit harem pant style so will need a long-ish top to balance them out) plus a Per Una top. I keep my clothes for years so hang the fact that it cost me £60 :o
Plus I usually buy my stuff from charity shops :)

Found a nice shop in Cornwall and have ordered a cardigan from them

I have a Seasalt long sleeved T shirt Silverlady and it's nice quality.

Well I'm half way through the day and these jeans are fantastic - so comfy. I was a bit worried they may go a bit baggy as the day went on but so far so good.
I have eaten a doughnut, 4 chocolates and a piece of Easter Egg (as well a my lunch) and still feeling fine around the middle. I would have been really uncomfortable in my real jeans if I'd eaten that.
I might try and post a photo of me in them later (only the bottom half ;) ) so you can see that they really do look just like normal jeans.

I practically live in leggings :) I wear them with a thigh length skirt, ankle boots and whatever top suits the weather. They are comfortable and can be adapted to most occasions and weather.
-
You're tempting me Ariadne!!
-
Liking the cat napping on the seasalt sac! x ;)
-
Well here I am. Does my bum look big in these ;)
The jeans are shaded as you can see - I'm not overly keen on that but since I will mostly be wearing them with a longer top it doesn't put me off. The front pockets are stitched up (not real pockets) but the back ones are normal.
They have been wonderfully comfortable all day. I made the ladies laugh at work when I asked them if they liked my new jeans and then I stretched the sides right out to show them they were made of jersey.

I like them, shading and all. Did you choose Indigo? The waist does look a bit high for my liking but maybe they would be ok. If I dont like them can I return them to JD Williams?
-
They look great ariadne. but be wary of eating too much when wearing them or you will grow :o
-
They are Indigo and yes, you can return them. They can be collected from your house.
I notice the label inside says "Simply Be". I didn't realise Simply Be was a branch of J D williams although I have noticed lots of other catalogues under different names that are.
Yes, there is a danger of overeating whilst wearing these - I can vouch for that after today's doughnut and easter egg feast. ;D
