I have noticed that as soon as I think of something, it goes out of my mind. I do have a very busy job and lots to think about, but I used to retain things really well and if anything think about the same thing for too long! Does anyone else have this? I go into a room for something and don't know why I'm there.
Is this a menopause symptom or a senior moment, or just too much going on in brain??? :(
-
Hi pixie,
I'm the same.
They say that after you've had a baby this can happen, and it's hormonal.
I was certainly like that then after having my children and now I'm worse I would say.
Like you I go into a room for something and get there and think, whatever is it,or I will do something completely different, go back and then realise that that was not what I wanted to do/get.
I do stupid things too like filling the teapot up with teabags instead of the tea caddy.
Putting the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cupboard.
Once I went to get a plastic box out of the cupboard and inside was the cheese :-\

Hi Dyan, and Mrs P I've always been a bit scatty. but like you Dyan I am doing silly things, especially in the kitchen and can't find where I've put stuff! At work, i seem to remember most important things, but sometimes go completely blank.
I hope it goes off post meno. :o XX
-
I am post meno and it seems to have just hit me. I start doing something and then go onto something else and forget what I was doing originally. At work I have been put in charge of an important project and am really struggling to hold it all together as my mind wonders off. Frightening stuff!

I have been like this for 3 years now and it has got steadily worse

I think people have this when they are tired and the brains not functioning well but I also think its hormone related. I definitely have this!
If it doesn't matter too much eg dirty dish in the bread bin and loaf in the sink :) then I laugh to myself and say oh the joys of being meno! If I made serious mistakes at work or elsewhere then I wouldn't find it so funny.
Sometimes you have to laugh or you'll cry!
Perhaps we should post more of these funny things!
-
I've always been scatty, I threw my P45 in the dustbin once and had no excuse then! Mum tells me to write lists. x
-
I'm finding that I seem to have lost the ability to multi-task and can only do one thing at a time. Yesterday, I was at the checkout in a shop but was speaking to the next person in the queue who I knew - the cashier asked me to put my pin into the machine and I took out my card and kept talking! She never noticed and asked me if I'd put my pin in and I realised that I'd put my card away when I was talking! Then I came home, was putting shopping away and saw that my son had used the new cheese grater which I insisted on calling a tin opener when I was talking to him about it - to test me he asked me to repeat what I'd said and I still called it a tin opener!! Bit worrying for work as I often have to deal with several things at the same time and I've always felt that I'm able to do that and be on the ball - will need to be extra careful.
-
I know what you mean flushtered, I think it is worse when you are tired too. I feel really tired today as didn't sleep for long last night and I found myself feeling more offended by customers than usual and generally a bit defensive. Luckily, I could leave a bit early as I have done lots of hours this week already. I think it is a bit worrying trying to keep it all going smoothly at work. Not easy at the best of times but when meno/ tiredness kick in its doubly hard!
-
I'm the same. I often go into a room and can't remember
why I'm there ! I also have problems remembering what I'm talking about
at times, and I often can't think of the word I want. It is worse when I'm overtired.
Scary!
-
;D I can relate to the pin stuff when shopping. Sometimes I think I have already paid for something as I am often ahead of myself! I've put my card away instead of putting in the machine! :o
-
My most recent thing was having a leg of lamb ready to cook, then very nearly, putting it in the fridge.
-
Thanks Tea and Toast, catlady, pixie and limpy ;D ;D Glad to know it's not just me! ;D
-
Even when I write lists, I usually forget one of the things on it and have to rush back from the cashier over to the food aisles. I seem to constantly make a fool of myself in supermarkets!!! ;D
I go in one room, forget why I went in there, go back to the other room and remember what I had to do in the first room, then go back into the other room........ :-X
-
I wrote a list and left it in the car, then had to go round trying to remember what was on it! Not as bad as OH who parked at one shop, then when he came out of there, he crossed the road to go to the bakers and after that he walked home completely forgetting he'd had the car with him ;D ;D ;D so maybe they go through this too!!!
-
;D ;D Crumbs I did similar once. I cycled down the road to get some food from the supermarket, walked home and completely slipped my mind that i had left the bike outside the supermarket.
As far as the car is concerned I spend ages wondering around the car park with a trolley of stuff, looking for the car!! ;D x
-
;D I did the nearly putting stuff in someone else's trolley when we were shopping on Saturday (OH's fault for moving on without me of course!) ::)
-
 X Thank goodness we're not 'off our trolleys' ;D
-
Very good Pixie!
:drunklaf:
-
;D pixie
I sometimes can't remember how to spell the simplest of words ::)
and when I'm in conversation I suddenly don't know what I was talking about.
-
Today I went for an appointment and the manicurist told me she was expecting me half an hour earlier. I apologised ( thinking I must be scatty as usual!) but when I got home I found the email that confirmed I was right after all! Nice feeling when you do actually get things right though!
Made me think 'maybe I'm not that bad after all!' ::)
Of course I forwarded the Mail to clear my name!! otherwise I know it would wake me at 3am in the morning with the nagging thought that 'she thought I was late - and I wasn't!!!!' going around in my brain! ;)
-
Glad to know I'm not the only one then ;D
-
Pixie we are all at it I can walk upstairs and forget why I did it
I call it meno brain hehehehe
-
I bumped our previous thread - seems it's an 'age' issue ;D
-
Even as a young person, I remember this type of thing when I put half of my supermarket shopping in the car and half a wrapped cabbage on the roof of the car, whilst looking for the keys. I then got in the car and I drove off with it on the roof, much to the amazement of passers by.
I'm terrible with keys too. :-X
-
Reading glasses: 4 pairs altogether or spread around and I can't remember where any are >:(
-
Went out at the age of 23 and left my then 2 year old daughter in the post office 1 day and walked home without her wondered what I had left behind when i got home then the penny dropped thank god it was only round the corner had to run back and get her, quite safe sitting in her buggy talking to all the customers was mortified. She still says to this day I was trying to lose her?
-
I relate to some of these too at the moment I can't seem to get my words out, they seem to come out back to front, and sometimes I just don't make sense at all! I sure get some weird looks from customers at work.
Does anyone else have this problem?
-
Yes, I do and even my typing comes out in the wrong order - it's like our brains are going too fast! ::)
-
If I type a word incorrectly in the morning it stays that way ALL day ::)
-
Being bit scatty tonight - I asked OH and son if they'd put the heating on and was totally gobsmacked when they had to inform me that I had put it on to finish drying the washing off! (Remembered after they told me!) ;D Also, was patting the top of my head searching for my glasses and they were on my knee - it's been a long day! ???
-
;D ;D x
-
There's hope for me yet ;D
-
In my car one day, I remember looking madly for my mobile in my bag on the floor of the car and then said to my DH (who I was speaking to on my mobile!) "oh no! I can't find my mobile. I must have left it at home" and then I realised... ;D
-
Just done a really daft thing. Was serving spaghetti in kitchen, but tipped the hot water onto the plate instead of down the sink! :-X
-
What did you do with the spaghetti?
-
;D
the whole packet of tea into the caddy is my latest trick then almost pouring boiling water into it :-X
-
but tipped the hot water onto the plate instead of down the sink I did that recently when draining peas. I tipped the water off the plate, dried it and then proceeded to do exactly the same thing again! :o
Bette x
-
;D The spaghetti found its way into the sieve, Limpy!
-
Sounds like success to me :) Hope you didn't scald yourself ? :-\
-
No I didn't, but must try and focus on what I'm doing! ;D x
-
im lol at the comments , as i can , very much relate .
i wonder why this happens , does anyone really know ::)
-
I lost my work mobile phone the other day, and looked everywhere, including the car, twice! I went to work and then asked my collegues if any of them had picked up my phone, by mistake, and they hadn't. I then went back to the car and it was under the seat. I don't get it, I looked twice! Probably need an eye test now, and get yet another pair of glasses I will lose or leave on my head. On one occasion I drove over my glasses, after they fell out of the car!! x
I also keep getting my words mixed up and back to front or not out at all.
-
;D At least we are not alone! I tried to put the scissors in the freezer yesterday instead of putting back the bag of oven chips I had opened with them! Forgot to sign myself out of here earlier and keep doing typo's. ;D
-
Last night i put my HRT tablet into the teapot instead of the tea bag. ???
Luckily i didn't pour the hot water in the pot.
TM
-
That would add a completely new meanin to HRT(ea) :)
I do so much silly i can't think of one example. I will try and think of something recent.
-
OH phoned on house phone from work this morning to ask if he'd left work mobile upstairs. I said to him that I was eating my porridge, could I text him when I'd finished and been upstairs to look ::) ::) Don't know how I thought he could get the text when his phone was lying upstairs! Getting worse!
-
welcome to my world! :)
-
... and mine, you are in Good Company ;) - at which point did he 'get it' Flushtered?
-
He realised straight away and had to reiterate to me that he did not have his phone! He usually phones me on his mobile though, so that's my excuse for being dim! ;D
-
::)
-
I just put some potatoes on to boil, a few less than usual, as watching my weight. I ended up throwing the potato peelings in the saucepan with the potatoes, instead of in the bin!! ;D
-
That's OK, the peelings is where the flavour is ;) ....... they tend not to smash as well though ;D
-
I have found this so much lately! I never used to have issues with memory, in fact - friends comment how good I am at remembering things but lately things just zip out of my brain, I also find I say things or ask questions, and then a minute later as again - forgetting Ive already asked it lol!! Not funny really though - if Im this bad at 34 imagine what Ill be like at 54?! Does it go away when you are post-meno? x
-
I met two people in separate places today and didn't recognise either of them :o - it was like I didn't remember their faces. :-\ until they spoke .......... I've known them for over 20 years.
-
Oh this is me all over. SO scary I keep thinking I have early onset dementia. I keep losing things and am so disorganised. My memory is shot, cant do the multi-tasking, struggling at work. I put a jug of milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge and didnt find it for several days. I throw things away (think I may have thrown my MP3 player away, cant find it anywhere.) Not only is my brain slow but things take me much longer to do. I go upstairs and have no idea why. It takes me ages to process things. Work is getting really difficult - too much multi-tasking and too many new things to learn and remember (or forget, as in my case). Starting to feel I am letting the team down. Horrible horrible horrible. Have even forgotten how to spell.
I've had to order a new laptop for home and I am dreading getting to grips with Windows7.
What's galling is that I was always mega organised with a brilliant memory :(
-
Don't worry elena. I have an old laptop with windows xp but my husband has a newer one with windows 7. He has adapted to it quite well and he finds these things very difficult. I have had a few goes with it when mine has frozen or stopped working and although i was very impatient with it to start with i am picking it up quite easily now. :)
-
Had another issue with roast lamb. This time I didn't nearly put it in the fridge to cook. This time, when the timer went off for the end of cooking, guess where I went armed with oven gloves.......... :o
My defence is that the fridge is opposite the cooker :-\
-
;D ;D x
-
Oh dear ;D
Well I am glad it's not just me. I have given up alcohol in case it's that but no difference as yet. I read that SSRI anti depressants mess up your memory so I am cutting down on them now. Desperate isnt the word!!
Ellie
-
ADs help my depression so much I would rather remain scatterbrained, at least I'm out of bed ;)
I didn't tell my French tutor this morning that she is dealing with a meno brain ::)
-
Went to put my pin no in machine today and wondered why it was declined, then relised I had put my staff no in by mistake!
-
I've had to apply for another PIN number for our joint acc. as we usually shop together ::) but now that the Festive Season looms
>:(
-
Put salt pot in my pocket and took it to son's house yesterday................thought it was my mobile phone :o
Ellie
-
;D .......... found out when you tried to answer it then ............ ???
-
;D
Was relaxing in the bath yesterday, when I picked up a bottle of CIF bathroom cleaner and very nearly washed my hair with it!
-
I was so tired after visiting family that i decided to go to bed early. Put Ovestin cream on my toothbrush!!! thank goodness i noticed before i tried to insert toothpaste where the ovestin is meant to go :o
-
I'm a receptionist.. We have a TV in reception for visitors to watch.Well on Friday the phone rang and i picked up the TV control and said Good Morning ******* how can i help only to realise i was talking to the TV control instead of the hanset. The visitor in reception looked at me like i had lost the plot and then we both had a good laugh about it. Wonder how many people he told about that. ???

 x Fantastic!
-
I nearly paid for someone else's petrol today, I told the woman I was at pump 2 - good job I was listening and not in a dream :poke2: when she said £32 blah, blah, blah.... mean scot me had only filled up with £14 - she then had to cancel sale as my card was in machine by this time
-
P.S. I was at pump 4!
-
You can still remember ! Ihad my new PIN number arrive but have already lost it before even trying to remember it >:(
-
;D Went into the kitchen earlier, forgot why I was there, went back into the lounge, then remembered what is was and went back into the kitchen and forgot again! Decided to give up and go into an entirely different room, remembered what is was again, but decided not to bother with it at all in the end and left it in the kitchen!! Foggy or what?
-
oh dear ;D but sooooooooo frustrating :-\
-
I can't remember these, doing searches ;)
