Title: Scatterbrain!
Post by: pixie on August 29, 2012, 08:49:15 PM
I have noticed that as soon as I think of something, it goes out of my mind.  I do have a very busy job and lots to think about, but I used to retain things really well and if anything think about the same thing for too long! Does anyone else have this?  I go into a room for something and don't know why I'm there.
Is this a menopause symptom or a senior moment, or just too much going on in brain???  :(

Hi pixie,
I'm the same.
They say that after you've had a baby this can happen, and it's hormonal.
I was certainly like that then after having my children and now I'm worse I would say.
Like you I go into a room for something and get there and think, whatever is it,or I will do something completely different, go back and then realise that that was not what I wanted to do/get.
I do stupid things too like filling the teapot up with teabags instead of the tea caddy.
Putting the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cupboard.
Once I went to get a plastic box out of the cupboard and inside was the cheese :-\

Hi Dyan, and Mrs P I've always been a bit scatty.   but like you Dyan I am doing silly things, especially in the kitchen and can't find where I've put stuff!  At work, i seem to remember most important things, but sometimes go completely blank.
I hope it goes off post meno. :o XX

I am post meno and it seems to have just hit me. I start doing something and then go onto something else and forget what I was doing originally. At work I have been put in charge of an important project and am really struggling to hold it all together as my mind wonders off. Frightening stuff!

I think people have this when they are tired and the brains not functioning well but I also think its hormone related. I definitely have this!
If it doesn't matter too much eg dirty dish in the bread bin and loaf in the sink  :) then I laugh to myself and say oh the joys of being meno! If I made serious mistakes at work or elsewhere then I wouldn't find it so funny.
Sometimes you have to laugh or you'll cry!
Perhaps we should post more of these funny things!

I've always been scatty, I threw my P45 in the dustbin once and had no excuse then!  Mum tells me to write lists. x

I'm finding that I seem to have lost the ability to multi-task and can only do one thing at a time.  Yesterday, I was at the checkout in a shop but was speaking to the next person in the queue who I knew - the cashier asked me to put my pin into the machine and I took out my card and kept talking!  She never noticed and asked me if I'd put my pin in and I realised that I'd put my card away when I was talking!  Then I came home, was putting shopping away and saw that my son had used the new cheese grater which I insisted on calling a tin opener when I was talking to him about it - to test me he asked me to repeat what I'd said and I still called it a tin opener!!  Bit worrying for work as I often have to deal with several things at the same time and I've always felt that I'm able to do that and be on the ball - will need to be extra careful.

I know what you mean flushtered, I think it is worse when you are tired too. I feel really tired today as didn't sleep for long last night and I found myself feeling more offended by customers than usual and generally a bit defensive. Luckily, I could leave a bit early as I have done lots of hours this week already. I think it is a bit worrying trying to keep it all going smoothly at work. Not easy at the best of times but when meno/ tiredness kick in its doubly hard!

I'm the same.   I often go into a room and can't remember
why I'm there !    I also have problems remembering what I'm talking about
at times, and I often can't think of the word I want. It is worse when I'm overtired.
Scary!

;D  I can relate to the pin stuff when shopping.  Sometimes I think I have already paid for something as I am often ahead of myself! I've put my card away instead of putting in the machine! :o

Even when I write lists, I usually forget one of the things on it and have to rush back from the cashier over to the food aisles.  I seem to constantly make a fool of myself in supermarkets!!! ;D
I go in one room, forget why I went in there, go back to the other room and remember what I had to do in the first room, then go back into the other room........ :-X

Post by: flushtered on August 30, 2012, 07:12:55 PM
I wrote a list and left it in the car, then had to go round trying to remember what was on it!  Not as bad as OH who parked at one shop, then when he came out of there, he crossed the road to go to the bakers and after that he walked home completely forgetting he'd had the car with him  ;D ;D ;D so maybe they go through this too!!!

;D ;D  Crumbs I did similar once.  I cycled down the road to get some food from the supermarket, walked home and completely slipped my mind that i had left the bike outside the supermarket.
As far as the car is concerned I spend ages wondering around the car park with a trolley of stuff, looking for the car!! ;D x

Today I went for an appointment and the manicurist told me she was expecting me half an hour earlier. I apologised ( thinking I must be scatty as usual!) but when I got home I found the email that confirmed I was right after all! Nice feeling when you do actually get things right though!
Made me think 'maybe I'm not that bad after all!' ::)
Of course I forwarded the Mail to clear my name!! otherwise I know it would wake me at 3am in the morning with the nagging thought that 'she thought I was late - and I wasn't!!!!' going around in my brain! ;)

Even as a young person, I remember this type of thing when I put half of my supermarket shopping in the car and half a wrapped cabbage on the roof of the car, whilst looking for the keys. I then got in the car and I drove off with it on the roof, much to the amazement of passers by.
I'm terrible with keys too.   :-X

Went out at the age of 23 and left my then 2 year old daughter in the post office 1 day and walked home without her wondered what I had left behind when i got home then the penny dropped thank god it was only round the corner had to run back and get her, quite safe sitting in her buggy talking to all the customers was mortified. She still says to this day I was trying to lose her?

I relate to some of these too at the moment I can't seem to get my words out, they seem to come out back to front, and sometimes I just don't make sense at all! I sure get some weird looks from customers at work.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Being bit scatty tonight - I asked OH and son if they'd put the heating on and was totally gobsmacked when they had to inform me that I had put it on to finish drying the washing off!  (Remembered after they told me!)  ;D  Also, was patting the top of my head searching for my glasses and they were on my knee - it's been a long day!   ???

I lost my work mobile phone the other day, and looked everywhere, including the car, twice!  I went to work and then asked my collegues if any of them had picked up my phone, by mistake, and they hadn't.  I then went back to the car and it was under the seat.  I don't get it, I looked twice!  Probably need an eye test now, and get yet another pair of glasses I will lose or leave on my head.  On one occasion I drove over my glasses, after they fell out of the car!!    x

I also keep getting my words mixed up and back to front or not out at all.

I have found this so much lately! I never used to have issues with memory, in fact - friends comment how good I am at remembering things but lately things just zip out of my brain, I also find I say things or ask questions, and then a minute later as again - forgetting Ive already asked it lol!! Not funny really though - if Im this bad at 34 imagine what Ill be like at 54?! Does it go away when you are post-meno? x

Oh this is me all over.  SO scary I keep thinking I have early onset dementia.  I keep losing things and am so disorganised.  My memory is shot, cant do the multi-tasking, struggling at work.  I put a jug of milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge and didnt find it for several days. I throw things away (think I may have thrown my MP3 player away, cant find it anywhere.)  Not only is my brain slow but things take me much longer to do.  I go upstairs and have no idea why.  It takes me ages to process things.  Work is getting really difficult - too much multi-tasking and too many new things to learn and remember (or forget, as in my case).  Starting to feel I am letting the team down.  Horrible horrible horrible.  Have even forgotten how to spell.

I've had to order a new laptop for home and I am dreading getting to grips with Windows7.

What's galling is that I was always mega organised with a brilliant memory :(

Don't worry elena. I have an old laptop with windows xp but my husband has a newer one with windows 7. He has adapted to it quite well and he finds these things very difficult. I have had a few goes with it when mine has frozen or stopped working and although i was very impatient with it to start with i am picking it up quite easily now.  :)

Had another issue with roast lamb. This time I didn't nearly put it in the fridge to cook. This time, when the timer went off for the end of cooking, guess where I went armed with oven gloves..........   :o

My defence is that the fridge is opposite the cooker  :-\
