We don't have a Poundland shop unfortunately, ive seen sherbet fountains but not the dip dabs with the red lolly
-
We have dipdabs in our local newspaper shop and in our sainsburys.
If you google old fashioned sweets you will find that most of these are available to buy online - even Caramac!

Eww - caramac - I have bad memories of eating far too much of that stuff in one go (insert little green-faced 'smiley' here!!) .... haven't been able to eat it since!
-
I remember thos easter eggs Rosalie, they looked great...what about those Liquorice packs with the pipe and the catherine wheel etc? Yummy!

-
Cremola foam - lemon flavoured!
Bramble
-
Moose chocolate bar loved those!
-
Potato puffs. The fat ones in the red and white bags, ready salted flavour, (not the skinny things that you sometimes see nowadays with strange flavours.) I remember when i was in the infants school they used to sell them at breaktimes, it was a real treat!!
v x
-
Ooh Dyan..loved Icebreaker, forgot about that, what did you call the choc mint bar, had two seperate pieces in one bar, green wrapper?
-
OH was always going on about Jublies - I'd never heard of them - and he was SOO excited when I saw them in the supermarket a couple of years ago and bought some home for him!
Bette x
-
Icebreaker & potato puffs. I don't remember either of those. Blame my sheltered upbringing! ;D
Cremola Foam lemon, loved that stuff.
I remember two sherbet sweets, one with the liquorice dip and one with a lollipop dip. I liked the lollipop one. Didn't like sucking sherbet through a liquorice straw.
Gobstoppers. Only ever had one in my life. I got so fed up sucking it I threw it away. ;D
-

-
Will you risk it for a swisskit?
Was that the ad?
-
My comic was Whizzer and Chips cos you got 2 for the price of 1!
Loved Milk Tray bars, Dyan..

Scoubidou plastic strings.
French knitting dolls
cats cradle
Gobs. A game similar to jacks

We were only talking about mink cracknel at work last week and remembering how the little shards of mint could lacerate your tongue - probably why it doesn't exisit anymore!!!
CKLD - that little green-faced smily is the very chap I was thinking of - thank you!!
-
Clackers! Although I don't miss the sore wrists that went with them ;)
-
Thats the one Mrs P..where do you find these brill pics?!! xx
-
We used to play with a "superball"..a small ball the size of a table tennis ball but when you bounced it it took off skyhigh!
-
My brother pinched my superball. Then he bounced it so hard it split in two and went off in 2 directions. My mum made him buy me a new one, which I wouldn't let him have! I seem to remember he pinched my yo-yo too. So another of those had to be bought too. I hasten to add he was about 20 at the time!!!!
-

-
Don't remember the Dolly Darlings, but then I was 11/12 so probably too old.
Sindy was my doll at age 7, saved all my pennies to get her. 29/11 she cost me.

-
Love home made rice pud, especially with the skin on top, thats the best part, I still make it now and again, SuziQ but not very often!
Used to like Bar 6 but that might still be available not sure..and Zing biscuits, I liked those cos there were two biscuits in them and my mum could only eat one, so I got the other half, as well as my own....billy bunter or what?!!
-
Small biscuits topped with hard icing ?
-

-
Iced Gems are still available. My grandson loves eating the icing blobs off them! :D
-
Wow, I remember these Mrs P, used to love them as a child.
Does anyone remember kiku talcum powder in the yellow ball container and also aqua manda? Probably this is more 70s?
Dyan, I used to love icebreakers. ;) x
-
UMMM so do I ;D
-
Oh I had a kiku talc yellow ball. I was very proud of it!!!
-
Susan I remember the chews, because i found a penny on the ground after the fairground had left and my cousin suggested buying four of them and having two each!! ;D X
-
I loved Kiku and Aqua Manda! Wish you could still get it!
-
You can get kiku on e-bay, not sure about aqua manda. Most men and boys wore Brute! Tree tops orange squash. The design of these bottles were the basis for the lava lamps. :) Boys shooting caps from guns, quite scared of them!
I remember bar 6 in an orange wrapper? Pink panther chocolate - yuk. I loved those milk tray bars too. There was strawberry, fudge, and some horrible lime flavour, turkish delight flavour? Frys chocolate cream bar. Glad caramac still around must get down to pound store.
My friend had some nice Avon lotions called pretty peach in a nice bottle with a peach lid, and also some creams with round the world faces on from Avon, but can't recall the name

Paynes asssorted poppets

-
Yep Pixie, Bar 6 was in an orange wrapper..
We used to play a game with a row of elastic bands tied together. 2 girls would put them round their waists (it was fully joined all round) and a 3rd girl had to jump on them and over them at 3 different heights. Ankle, knee and hip high...does anyone remember that or am I rambling?!
-
Oh yes - Elasties. I never got beyond ankle height but the good ones even did shoulder height!
Bette x
-
We still play this in my primary school - I think that a lot of the old fashioned playground games are now being played again. This is not my school but we do play the games http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/studentssite/playgroundgames.htm
Taz x
-
You can still get Aqua Manda perfume at feathergills.co.uk. They have lots of vintage.
I have Aqua Manda as it is one on the scents I loved and stuck in my mind all these years.
-
Tramp perfume
Tweed perfume that use to smell like cats wee
-
I also had a kiku talc.
Avon Pretty Peach - soap on a rope
Coty L'aimant perfume
-
Charlie perfume - mind you, I think that it's still around but I haven't worn perfume for years.
Bette x
-
Elasties - we called them Chinese ropes at our school. We were still playing them at secondary. I managed up to waist but not too hot at shoulder high. Boys would line up to watch us girls waiting to catch a glimpse of our suspenders! ;D ;D
I had Kiku perfume & powder puff. Moved onto to Gingham - the one that smelled like Brut aftershave. I used to find Brut such a turn-on it was quite embarrassing. No man was safe! ;D ;D ;D
-
Blimey! £39.99 for a small vintage Kiku talc on e-bay! Probably doesn't smell of anything now!
-
I thought I might have a go at making my own Aqua Manda http://www.perfumeintelligence.co.uk/library/perfume/a/a5/a5p3.htm
with essential oils and a carrier.
Aqua Manda was made from Mandarin, coriander, rosemary, parsley and jasmine. The one from feathergills is not quite the same as I remembered.
-
Many perfumes are based on yak urine or musk oil - don't think where the oil comes from or how it's obtained, you won't buy perfume again :-\ :'(
-
Perhaps we all need a sniff of brute now Cubagirl to get ourselves going again!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D X
-
A sniff? I think I would need to have a bath in a gallon of it to get me going!!
Another memory I had today was Lucky Bags, it was always a surprise to see what was in them...I think you can still get them but I bet theyre not as good....
-
A sniff? I think I would need to have a bath in a gallon of it to get me going!!
-
Himself has an almost full bottle of Brut .......... bought in the 1970s. Pity he used any of it, might be worth something now ;D
-
I used to like the lemon sherbert that came in a sellophane bag with a red lolly. Perfume? Clinique and another in late 70s called Geminese - it smelt great. I would still wear it today it I could!!!!
-
Tea and Toast you can still get it from galaxyperfume.co.uk for £14 72p but there is a waiting list.
-
Thanks Rowan! I am now on the waiting list!
-
You can buy Brut deodorant in Asda. Love the smell ..
-
Old Spice wasn't very sexy though was it? ;D ;D ;D Not a very alluring name for an aftershave!!!
-
... and fellas wearing Brylcreem :P
-
The guy in the Old Spice advert was sexy with the crashing waves - remember that? :D
Brylcreme yuk, I don't know anyone that wore that - but Old Spice territory!
Denim - 1970s aftershave now that was very popular!
-
My Dad used Brylcreem for his hair every day. Horrible, greasy stuff in a red and white tub!
-
Mine too - apart from bath night! He wore Old Spice too. Lovely memories.
Bette x
-
Boobles had Brute Aftersheve deodorant and hairspray YES in 1972 Men hairsprayed that long hair
He now wears Male Issy Misseyake
When I want to go back I use Youth Dew ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Harry Nillson With out you RIP Harry
-
Men used to have such lovely hair in the 1960s and 1970s. I don't know what has happened but locally most men now have shaven heads, which I'm not as keen on - is anyone else? :D
-
I don't mind it on older men, who have lost most of their hair anyway. But definitely not keen on scalped youngsters. ;)
I used to go out with a guy who was always preening his hair whenever he got the chance. Used to do my head in, but it did look good. Hubby on the other hand only got his hair coiffed (sp) for our wedding. ;D Rest of the time it was pretty scruffy really. Hairspray are you having a giraffe! ;D ;D ;D
-
The guys with good hair in the 70's are now bald ;D
OH uses clippers (number 2) but as he has little on top it looks better. Don't mind seeing cropped hair but not a 0 on younger guys. Makes them look thuggish :-\
-
I get to give hubby the chop with his clippers. I refuse to cut it less than a 4 though. ;)
-
I do the chopping too. He doesn't have enough for a number 4 ;D
-
I get to give hubby the chop with his clippers.
Me too, he has a 1 though! Has done for years - he'd bald on top (apart from a few stray ones) as the rest is white, has been for years. Looks less "thuggish" now that he's older! ;D I think he prefers it this way than accepting that he's bald and grey! ::) ;D
I do find that the stubble feels very sexy when I run my hand over it!
Bette x
-
;D - where are we using the clippers then girls ???
-
Hereby hangs a theme ::) - I was at an antiques fair yesterday and there was a 'smash' t-towel which got the stall holder and I talking ....... ;D
-
I would rather see an older man clipped than have a comb over. Now that is not a good look ;D

My husband insists on paying a barber to cut his hair for him, he is quite particular about the hair that remains on his head. ::)
-
Is that the 1 hair Jane R ? ;)
-
lol, that's so funny but he does have more left than just one. :)
-
Phew!
Men opening doors for ladies?
-
Yes,that is a rarity today CLKD!
A gentleman opening a car door for a lady.
-
manners in general really are not so often seen nowadays :(
-
Apparently when DH was 5 he opened the car door for his Mum saying 'Teacher told us to open the door for old ladies' ::)
-
Sorry, I hadn't come across this thread before - oops! - looks like we might have some repeats on Do you remember... ::)
-
:bounce:
-
forgotten this thread i can still smell pretty peach stuff and i must have been about 6 when i got it :)
-
I'd forgotten it too until someone ;) mentioned sweeties …..
-
oops ive had to have a magnum from the freezer now after all talk of sweet things
-
;D
-
This thread has been bringing back memories. I used to get Avon Pretty Peach at Christmas from my Godmother, I can still remember the smell. When I got a bit older I used to wear Mary Quant Havoc. My comic was Mandy before I moved on to Jackie, one of my brothers used to get Whizzer and Chips.
-
i used to wear gingham, lovely fresh smell
-
Did anyone else have those wobbly people toys with round bases that couldn't fall over? I had a play park set with swings and a roundabout that had little round hollows in them for the people to sit in.
And the lego that came in packs of different colour bricks for you to make up your own buildings - none of the ready-made kits you can buy now. My Dad used to make buildings for me after I'd gone to bed, and I'd come downstairs in the morning and find I had a lego zoo or garage or shop to play with. It was ages before I realised it was Dad; I used to think it was fairies ::)
My friend's children have the fisherprice pull-along dog and telephone that look very similar to the ones I had in the 70s! Nice to see they are still around.
-
We're they called Weebles. I remember those.
One of my favourites was Spirograph. That's still around.
My kids had the Chatter telephone and the little dog too....and that was twenty years ago.
Honeybun
X
-
I bought eldest GD the chatter phone about 5 years ago. She preferred a mobile. Times are changing! ;D
-
Yes they were Weebles - the ad used to sing 'Weebles wobble but they don't fall down'
I loved Spirograph, etch-a sketch and a thing with a magnet pen and iron filings that you could draw pictures with - moustaches on men from what I can remember....I loved my fuzzy felt too.
-
Weebles - thank you for reminding me of the name.
I had a spirograph too, but didn't like it very much. LOVED my fuzzy felt though, and that is still going strong - my godchildren have some.
My friend's little boy loves the pull-along phone but her little girl is already into mobiles - I had a 'phone call' from her aged 9 months - her Mum left the phone near her for two minutes!
-
My sister wouldn't share her Spirograph :'( and I hated the feel of Fuzzy Felts. Anyone remember those bendy toys - they felt awful to touch.
-
Do you mean those foam ones with wire inside? Hated them.
-
Oh yes they were really horrible. I went through a phase of having trolls, horrible ugly things. I had one with long purple hair and a little one on the end of a pencil. I remember if I had 7 shillings and 6 pence I had enough to buy a proper toy or an outfit for my Sindy - that's 37 and a half pence in today's money!
-
I wasn't allowed trolls, my mum banned them! Buying outfits for Sindy was OK.

Nothing! Still available. Strawberry and Butterscotch are in my cupboard right now ;D
Taz x
-
;D - I loved butterscotch. Is it the same 'taste'?
-
Awww me too....luv it.....trouble is, one packet doesn't make enough, I'd need 3/4 of em...
I know, greedy cow! 😋
-
;D - I loved butterscotch. Is it the same 'taste'?
I don't eat it. I'll have to ask!
Taz x
-
Can you still get Victory V's, they were a rectangle brown sweet and very hot, I loved them.
-
Hi Taz - let me know ..... Dierdre - I think the flavour was altered, I find them :-X these days :-\
-
cremola foam!! :P, probably rotten if I tried it now.
-
That's a new 1!
-
Yes you can still get victory Vs.....I had some last winter...I used to love em too.
However, they don't taste the same for some reason....they seem to taste of nothing now. :-\
-
Could that be menopausal taste bud alteration or has the receipe changed ?
-
They've reduced the sugar content.
Taz x
-
Why ;D ........... they were bad enough anyway ::)
-
I need some advice:
My Lava Lamp hasn't been switched on for 2 years. Now the lava won't move when the light is switched on :-\ ......... do I empty it all and chop up the wax, melt it then pour it back?
-
Maybe it's not warm enough TO move....because it's ‘set' in the bottom?
I'd leave it switched on for a while, before doing anything to it....🙂
-
Tnx. Did that over-night. Looked like a long poo from top to bottom of the glass vase >:(
DH has put lots of hot water round the glass. It's Bginning to move a bit now - maybe it needs some Senokot ;D
What happened to lava lamps anyway :D
-
maybe you need to play it poo goes home to poo land!!!
-
::)
-
look it up!! ;D
-
I'll get an ear worm?
-
I've been using my lava lamp at night - now I've got the bug, I want one that fixes to the wall ;D
