Hi
Can anyone tell me if anxiety in the morning is a menopause symptom? Some mornings I wake early and I am filled with drea and irrational thoughts. I wasn't like this when I was younger didn't really worry about anything. I'm also clumsy I've already dropped a plate this morning :( :(
As the day goes on I feel better but the mornings at times are almost unbearable. I've been on Evorel 75 since October but this symptom has not gone away. Does HRT not really help with this side of it?
I have good weeks and bad weeks.
Sorry for all the questions x :-\ :-* ::)

Hi Paulineh
Yes, morning anxiety is definitely a meno symptom. Many of us have had it. There have been lots of threads on it - just do a search! Here is one worth reading:-
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8633.msg144612.html#msg144612
Personally I have found that HRT has really helped with it but the other things I mention on that thread are worth trying until it really kicks in. (Scroll to the beginning of the thread.)

P.S. The 321 exercise is here - I used to do it each morning in bed as soon as I woke up.

Hi
Thanks Bette for the link I found it really interesting. I'm really wound up this morning as if I was on some kind of energy drug. I'm not! And yet there are times when i truly feel that well that I'm sure I've come through all the horrible bits. I don't take anything for the anxiety and I don't want to start. What is it about meno that would cause anxiety? I have freiends who do not seem to be experiencing any of these symptoms which makes me think that perhaps its just me and nothing to do with the memo. ;D ;D
-
I think that it's excess adrenaline which can be caused by hormone fluctuations. Low blood sugar exacerbates it, so eating little and often helps. Just because your friends don't get it doesn't mean that it's not meno! None of my friends have anything like my experience but lots of ladies on here have - that's why this is such a great place!

Paulineh, yes I get it, it's not too bad at mo, last year - just awful. I think anxiety is common for some in meno, it seems to be the worst symptom for those who get it. Like Bette says , lots of posts on it with tips on how to help get you through. It is really horrible but you won't have it forever x
-
I sufffer from anxiety its splashed far worse in the morning. Usually by the end of the day it is better.
-
Me too, it was the worse symptoms of my menopause. I was definately worse in the morning. It seemed to build up just before a sweat/flush - like a tidal wave. I have been on Evorel 100 since the beginning of January and slowly things are really improving.
Take heart it is not you, just an inbalance of hormones.
As Bette said keep the blood sugars up - bananas and ginger biscuits really helped as I had nausea as well.
Be kind to yourself. Tx

Thanks ladies it's good to get some reassurance that it's not only me who feels like this. You're right pj44 as the day goes on it gets better.
Jj I keep hanging on to the thought that it won't last forever my poor husband and son are hanging on to that too. ;D ;D
I find this forum really helpful especially when I'm feeling a bit low and all over the place.
Many thanks xxx

hiya i ave anxious feelings in mornings too, feel real dodgy but once i ave sprinted the school run, i feel a lot better, and when i am on my own sitting around doing nothing i get a bit nervous, but to be fair its my my mind playing tricks with me,thinking i ave got every illness under the sun, then i just seem to snap out of it,i am sick of this feeling wonder how long it will last :-\x

Hi Lollipop
I am just like you, in the morning I wake up and then think, now how do I feel today, and at that point the anxiety can kick in. If I am alone at home in the day it can be worse, I start to think of other reasons why I dont feel 100% and the other peri symptoms I have and then I start worrying more. If I am fully occupied things just dont seem so bad. My hubbie is supportive, but its now got to the point where he asks 'whats the ailment of the day today', we have a laugh and it breaks some of the tension but I know he really doesnt understand how I feel, how can he. I am just grateful I am not alone as reading the threads on here almost makes you feel 'normal'.
So a big thank you to the ladies that post on here x

I haven't read all the responses but low blood sugar can cause adrenaline surges which = anxiety. So eating properly helps.
Clumsiness, yep that's me >:( I trip over my own feet walking on flat ground ::)

I too have this underlying feeling of anxiety in the mornings when I wake up and it does improve once I'm up and about. These feelings do improve :meauh: as the day goes on and I find that most evenings I'm completely fine :) It is the worst part of this stage for me :(
 to all suffering with this
-
It passes for me as I work through my daily committments, by the evening I'm a different person I could take on the World: but have learnt not to say 'yes' to anything in the evenings, but wait and see how the anxiety is when I wake :-\
-
Thank God there are loads of other women who get this terrible waking anxiety. Never had this before menopause set in. Also have suffered with nausea. Really hope that this one fades. Think my oestrogen levels must be really low. At least we know that this is hormones, if that is any help!
Meg
-
I get nausea too Meg and like you I never suffered from this until I was in my forties. Some times worse than others. Is it a surge of hormones or a drop? Never really sure about that one. Perhaps others know.
I sincerely hope it doesn't last forever :o :o
-
Morning anxiety has returned at the moment - which makes getting out to work difficult.
Nausea was a real problem for me off and on over the last 8/9 years. I kept thinking I must be so susceptible to stomach bugs! doh. It's only looking back that I realise it was peri related.
I've no idea if it's surge or drop in hormones! Either way it was a horrible feeling.
-
yep i get sick feeling in morning if i hadnt been sterilized years ago i wud of thought i was pregnant :)tbh i wud rather be pregnant cus at least you no symptoms wud go in 9months who knows when this meno ends :'(xx
-
The nausia I had was definitely hormonal. Only got it with peri and it was constant, not just in the morning. Eating did help a bit but that was a struggle as I had absolutely no appetite. :( Happily it went with HRT.

Low blood sugar causes anxiety surges. Which is why NAPS suggested that I eat every 3 hours ....... slow release foods even through the night.
-
What's NAPS clkd?

My GP said that she had not come across another woman in menopause who had nausea. She must be in her later thirties but I wish she would visit this site and then she would know differently.
Meg

Maybe she would also claim that women don't get morning sickness during pregnancy, Meg! :beat: If hormones cause that, surely it's logical that they can cause them during meno too. ???

My doctor said the same to me, that feeling sick in the morning was not part of the menopause, I suggested he read the forum, no budging him. It would be interesting to know exactly what is going off inside to make this happen. I too take beta Blockers if it is severe, which calms down adrenalin in the blood stream, I believe, so I am definately thinking it must be hormonal. I had an hysterectomy 6 months ago - so not really sure where I am with hormones - whether I even have any now?
-
Suzykeens
Are you on HRT? I had a hysterectomy 3 months ago and am on HRT but still struggling with meno symptoms. I am convinced my oestrogen is still too low and nausea is linked to this. Waiting for a decision from doc whether to up my level of HRT or not. My hormone levels are to be rechecked in another couple of weeks before a decision is made. Can't wait because I feel so exhausted all the time and would welcome a chance to feel normal again. Force myself out the house every day for a wee walk but it's quite hard. Can't seem to see light at the end of the tunnel but need to get fit enough to get back to work.
Do you feel physically fit after 6 months post-op?

Hi,
Yes I've woken up at 4.30 this morning, after a very restless night. Hot flushes more noticeable in this weather! I slept with just a sheet on - then end up feeling cold, then put the quilt and sweating again. In the end I have got up after 5 hours sleep. I was just lying feeling very negative and quite panicky. I also start worrying about my mother who is getting old, and also have thoughts about changing my life, job, friends etc. Then I get up have now had a cup of tea and feel ok, apart from a slight headache. I am wondering if I have finished my periods yet, as it has now been nearly 6 months. I seem to go through phases of feeling like this, as at the moment I have been stressed as mum in hospital. I hope all this doesn't get worse. I find the sunny hot weather worse than the winter, which is a shame because should be enjoying it! Also I find people getting on my nerves, especially younger ones - grumpy or what?!! :(
-
JJ - I think CLKD is referring to National Association for Premenstrual Syndrome :)
-
Good news the nausea does go :) i used to be plagued with this even though i was on hrt i still got breakthrough symptoms and god knows what dose i would have needed to be on to get rid of it! - strong hormone fluctuations which i am pleased to say are now settling though far from perfect. I really get cross when i hear of GP telling a patient she has never heard of women having nausea related to menopause and is bound to make the patient more anxious - a little reassurance and some research wouldnt go amiss >:(. I personally would not go to a young GP with meno probs
-
Thanks 2catsnat, I'd not heard of that.
-
Thanks anne & susan for replies - Unfortunately I cannot take HRT as I had Ovarian Cancer - the doctor as now given me some indigestion medicine and tested me for everything he could think off I believe :D So I will know shortly if everything is okay. xxx
-
SuzyKeens - have you looked at the Ovacome web-site, which is how I landed here ::)

My morning anxiety is definitely coming back, i am waking with a feeling of dread and noticing palpitations and flushes. I had this at the start of the year and it went away or became much milder. Common sense tells me it will go away again and i am trying to resist going back to fluoxetine but in the meantime i think i will have to dig out the propranolol. It is a bit disappointing but i assume that this will pass and one day we will all be free of all this?
-
I do hope so Lady57 because my anxiety has been visiting me this week and unfortunately it has stayed for to long >:(

Low blood sugar? Are you eating differently now that it is colder ..........
-
I've been racking my memo brain but I don't think I'm doing anything different. The begining of the week was great but by Wednesday wasn't feeling so great. The only thing different is that I been going to work earlier so have had to change my routing slightly in the morning. It's probably just the hormones not playing nicely >:(
hope your ok.

Hi
My heart goes out to all those women who's meno means that they suffer from morning dread.
I woke up with slight 'morning dread' this morning, and panicked because I thought it was my medication, and my medication related morning dread is really awkward.
While I am sorry that women are suffering this, I only found out today that meno could be causing my morning dread, by googling anxiety and meno, and this thread came up.
I feel relief that it's not my meds, because I have had real awkwardness with my meds, but meno can be dealt with, and even if treatment doesnt take away all the morning anxiety, I know that it is only temporary.
