Ok here goes
Dryness is at the start middle or end of meno symptoms depending on the person
For me it was the end of my meno journey 6 months or so after my LAST PERIOD
For others its way before that. Ignoring the Vaginal Dryness putting up with it is silly
Not only does it make sex hard if not impposible it leads to Atrophy now i know 50% of all meno women will get Atrophy The other 50% 1 out of 2 will devolop some symptoms of Atrophy that may be manageble with lubricant
If your Vaginas sore burning tight tears in the Hood of the clittoras or surrounding outer genitalia
If your genitals begin to shrivel in to the skin then you have FULL BLOWN ATROPHY none of which is reversable
The only releif you can get not a cure but pain releif from the 24/7 ache, burn, redhot poker feeling.Never ending throb
HRT of somekind theres nothing out there abso nothing thats natural that works NOT A THING if it did
Then all I can say watch out Bill Gates cos he would be the second richest man instead of the first
Atrophy can ruin your life affect it every day like walking (your inner labias rub together and red raw or even bleed)
You cant sit for long the pains bad you feel like your sitting on a rock all the inner and outer mons sink and shrivel
The inner side of the outer mons sink so you feel open all the fatty flesh sinks the inner labias shrivel in to the skin
They get smaller and smaller I had outies they hung down not anymore I look like Ive had a Labiaplasty
It (lack of hormones) makes you want to we all the time as hormones are needed at the kneck of the bladder
loose them and the bladder weakens and whoosh this only gets worse with every passing week life is unbearable
Sex well its like sandpaper thats if you can get the LOU LOU in that is and the pain OUCH has nothing in it
Use Ovestin Orthogynest or as I did Vagfem with in days you feel better with in weeks its unimaginable the difference
Not everyone can take HRT pills i couldnt my GP gave me the MINI PILL and OVESTIN now IM just on Vagifem
Knowone talks about Dryness and Atrophy and the one is allmost certain to lead to Atrophy but why have a dry fanny anyway

Thanks! I'm about to go to my doctor to discuss vaginal dryness / complete lack of interest in sex / pain if I do try to have sex. Was feeling a bit worried in case the doc dismissed it as 'what do you expect at your age?' After reading this I'm determined to be assertive if needs be, I don't want to end up with full blown atrophy!
-
Put your foot down with a firm hand ;-) - let us know how you get on!
-
Both gps and gynaecologist have been so helpful over this. As the gynaecologist said, we have to reoestrogenise your vagina. I got to stage where the lining was so thin that just inserting the vagifem could cause injury and bleeding. The normal dose was simply not enough. I am so fortunate that I can take HRT and no longer have to have progesterone as I have had a hysterectomy. All is calming down now.
-
I feel that if I hadn't been persistent in getting treatment for my soreness I would be in a bad state now.Fortunately I seem to have caught it in time, but I do need the full range of treatments to keep everything comfy!
I refused to be fobbed off by doctors who said you only get problems down below once your periods have finished....what a load of nonsense >:(
Stella....don't come away without a prescription.

Thank you for bumping this thread, CLKD :) - without this forum I would not have had a clue what was going on (or what COULD happen in next few years). Just lately, my bladder urgency has worsened and I keep getting intermittent cystitis type symptoms along with sporadic vaginal dryness. For me, the bladder problems were probably the first of my symptoms to appear and I would imagine that I am still in the relatively early stages of perimenopause. I will be making an appointment with my GP tomorrow morning to see if I can have vagifem/ovestin/estring to nip this in the bud or be referred back to the Meno GP I saw in February. It is appalling that women are not better informed about vaginal atrophy >:( . What would we do without this forum? X
-
well I had never heard of vaginal atrophy until I visited this forum and I am sure I only got treated because I knew what to ask for so thank you MM :thankyou:
-
MadBloss - bite the bullet and ask for vaginal atrophy treatment, don't be fobbed off and it isn't wise to wait to get an appt. with the Clinic. It shouldn't be necessary, your GP or Practice Nurse should agree with us (sorry) us ;D

Saw a doctor who was post meno and had taken HRT herself - hooray! Given a prescription for Sylk and told to read up about HRT & decide whether I want to go down that route. Another appointment in a fortnight to discuss a way forward. Not sure about HRT (must browse the forum more!) I have mood swings which St John's wort is just about managing to control, I'm terribly forgetful & wake up several times every night, really struggle to keep my weight in check, but no flushes or aching anywhere. Main problems are irritability, tiredness, vaginal dryness, complete loss of libido and sometimes slight incontinence. Would appreciate your thought!
-
The Sylk won't do anything to help VA you need topical oestrogen, either Vagifem or Ovestin. You can use both of those long term as very little is absorbed.
Even if you don't want systemic HRT you really need to use topical as things will only get more uncomfortable down below.

To add to Tinkerbell's comments - add Estring your list of possibilities. Fit and forget for 3 months.
x
-
Noodle...if you use the Estring, how do you get on with it? I have to use Vagifem every day so wondered whether to give that a try.
-
Always worth a try Tinkerbell.
I first tried vagifem (the old 25 mg dose) - did the loading dose and then went to twice a week for a couple of months. However, I was still in pain and sex was still off limits when push came to shove (so to speak).
Had to to push for Estring at docs as she had never heard of it. Got it, tried it - perfect!
I don't know why vagifem didn't suit me - could have been the fillers, as other ladies have commented, or could have been the stop-start nature of administration - dunno.
All I know is Vagifem nil - Estring 1.
X
-
I get on very well with Vagifem but wondering if the Estring gives a more steady dose throughout the day. Also having to use every day is a bit of a nuisance now sex is back on the agenda!
-
:welcomemm: Stella1
-
Re Estring and sex - leave it in or take it out first, your choice. (Says so on the packet.)
-
Thanks CLKD, just seen your reply from yesterday - I have made a GP appointment on Friday to try and obtain local oestrogen to get this prob!em stopped in its tracks! :)
-
Will Vagifem or Estring help with mood swings or is it just for VA?
-
No, very little is taken up systemically, so it will only help VA and bladder symptoms.

I have now been put on 1x10m every night plus 3 times a week rubbing Ovestin outside
Thanks to my little voice CLKD 25m worked great with the occasional extra one
Since been on 10 i tried it 2 at once twice a week it burned itvwas double covering
Then i tried 1 a daybfor 2 night 1 day break then 2 days using it. Ok for couple of months
Then soreness outside shriveled up again. So went back every night ne rdcons equivalent
To 4 or 5 hrt in a year Ovestin has plumped me up outside though i have shriveled
Sex doesnt hurt bit tight on entry and as long as it doesn't last long im fine
But on and off good days and badd we weeing? That went 1000000% WITH 25 M
Not so good evej with 10m in every night but what else really can i do?
Im not having things shoved inside my womb no chance pal tried that vaginal wall lazer
She could hardly walk went into hospital she had a bad reaction
I will carry on im doing everything possible maybe this is it?
One odc thing though when im not at home when im doing stuff like riding 1000ks
On the bike over 3 days enjoying stuff going out etc im fine go figure? Xxxx

it's something I need to learn to stop. any tips?

Not off the top of my head ::) but to quote DC., 'it is what it is' ……… :whist:

DC? ???

Oh Suzy Q reading your post on this really makes me want to growl big time >:( about the withdrawal of the 25mcg Vagifem.
Do you think we will ever get it back ?
I am managing quite well on my regime of 2 x 10 twice a week ( every third night) but it is still not as good as the 25mcg twice a week which cured everything.
On we go eh..... x
-
Scriv, the Estring would give you the old equivalent 2 x 25 dose and is unbelievably easy and convenient to use. Just a thought though.

Thanks ancient runner, but there is no way I could bear having an E string fitted and being in there.
-
Some ladies don't like the thought of something up there ::) ………
-
After all the issues I have had over the years with prolapses and repairs and examinations and smears, nothing is going up there other than a Vagifem I'm afraid. Enough is enough lol.

Oh makes my eyes water ;D

Plus infections and plus trying to use a coil and a cap in the earlier days, lol.
As said, enough is enough :o

which is the better external cream, estriol (was gynest) or estradiol (ovestin)? I am concerned about the peanut oil in the estriol and the tube is huge, I only use a pea sized blob twice a week.
