No, not crazy. At our assemblies they would play a record of the 'Planets suite' as we left the hall. Still love that music now.

-
Oh yes Jillydoll, with you on all the above :parti:
..also love Louis Armstrong, ‘What a wonderful world'..goosebumps every time..
-
Oh yeah kernow, reminds me of my dad he loved that song. :'(
My favourite artist is David Bowie, old ziggy stardust stuff mainly
And on my phone is sweet child of mine. Guns n roses.
Better than most of the stuff around now.
Half of it I can't understand what there saying. Lol
Oldies are the best. Only a handful of nowadays do I like.
Getting old I suppose. :(
-
I'm of the Bowie, rod Stewart Brian ferry generation,â€love is the drug†really gets my juices flowing so to speak.lol x
-
Yeah, all good.
Mind you, when I was a kid, many moons ago, I/we (my brothers)
Had Garry glitter on our walls, posters everywhere. And we all know what happened
To him!!! But we won't go there... >:(
Oh yeah, rod Stewart, Maggie may.
10cc.
Ian drury and the blockheads, heard that today. Hit me with your rhythm stick.
That had me doing something, not sure you'd call it dancing but it was something.
:parti: :spin:
-
Looks like a bit of “dirty dancing†going on there
-
Dream a little dream of me. Mamas and Papas. :)
-
Heard squeeze today.. “cool for catsâ€
That's a good one. Also “up the junction “

-
Do tell. Which are you 3 favourites?
They are: (1) To Jesus' Heart All Burning, (2) Sweet Sacrament Divine and (3) Hail Redeemer King Divine.
-
Not sure if I know those. Will have to youtube them.
-
Musics a wonderful thing..whatever suits you...I hate to think where I'd be without it...
‘The first time ever I saw your face', takes me back to being 15 and having a crush on my ski instructor
-
Hi everyone.
Totally agree with you kernow, music is just everything to me.
If I ever lived on a desert island all I'd need is a radio!
Forget the tele, phones, I,pads etc, I don't need them. :)
I remember that song ,think I know the Roberta Flack version.
Really good.
Music just lifts my low moods, makes me feel better, the tele and
Other things can't do that for me, if I never watched tele again
It wouldn't bother me.
Although I do like a good film.. ::)

They can be denominational, e.g. traditional Anglican (in the UK), evangelical, baptist, that sort of thing......
-
Everybody hurts sometimes by R.E.M.
That song got me through one of the worst times of my life, I was very close to ending everything.
The words are so pertinent to the situation I was in that even now I'm transported to a time when there was so much pain it felt impossible to get through.
I used to play it over and over, sobbing to the words...but it gave me strength and although I'm not sure I've ever got back to where I was, I'm so grateful for that song.
My son was nearly 3 at the time and although he wouldn't remember the events he remembers this as a ‘special song'.
-
Hi kernow.
I know that song very well too.
Just made me think that everybody goes through a tough time
at some point in their lives.
It's how you come out the other end that's important.
What don't break us, makes us stronger.
So glad you got through your tough time. Stay strong.

Not a song but a symphony - Sibelius' 7th Symphony. There's a great youtube video of it showing scenes from Finland while you listen.

Mary J Blige - I'm Fine
(even if some days it's not quite true......)
"So I like what I see when I'm looking at me
When I'm walking past the mirror
Don't stress through the night, at a time in my life
Ain't worried about if you feel it
Got my head on straight, I got my vibe right
I ain't gonna let you kill it
You see I wouldn't change my life, my life's just...
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
Just fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
You see I wouldn't change my life, my life's just fine"
:D
-
At the moment I really like
Sia... flames.
Also like Pink, her songs up lift me too....
-
Oh I really am getting old. I haven't heard of either of those. ;D
-
Neither have I, Shadyglade :) At this moment, I'm listening to a lovely recording of The Armed Man, by Karl Jenkins. I woke up at 5.30am feeling anxious and tearful but this is definitely uplifting my mood...... :)
-
No football fan normally but a rendering of "Footballs coming Home" at this present time brings a smile and lifts the mood. 8)
-
Doesn't it just, Krystal.
Puts me in a good mood anyway,
And we're all in need of one of those occasionally... ;D
I keep singing that song, I'm sure I'm singing it in my sleep too...
-
Yeah, and they'll all be called after ‘the heroes ‘ too.
They'll be lots of Harry's, and Gareth's.......lol
-
Please can I resurrect this thread? (I'm desperate to share/ask for advice on how to deal with my awful sister-in-law and her husband, who are treating my husband worse than you would your 2nd favourite pet, but I'm too mad so need a diversion 😡)
💔💔🎵
Don't go breaking my heart 🎵 💔💔💔
by Elton John and Kikidee
Always makes me smile !
Also Hands up baby hands up!
Which was the song my 35 year old son and myself would sing at bath time 34 years ago 🥰 but can't remember who sang it.
Padine x
-
Of course you can Padine! My uplifting track for today is . . . Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen. Defy anyone to hear that without smiling!
-
Oh yes! What about the old song which goes:
“I got it in the hall
And the (dum-dee-dum-dee-dum)
Singing hey, do be do be
Da dee dum da dee dumâ€
Or something like that 🥳
Came out the same time as
I will survive (not a cheery one at all!)

Thank you CLKD! I was only 17 when that song came out and was still at a giggly stage about sex! Still makes me giggle 🤭 and I can't imagine “getting it in the bathroom or in the hall†anymore :boobs: !
On a classical note, Song for Athene by John Tavener is so peaceful and deeply spiritual, makes me breathe deeply so as I don't make a sound (can't do a link thing but just google the title - it's really worth a quiet 5 mins.
Padine xx
-
Handel - Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. Not sure whether permissible here as not a song!
-
“Song to the Siren†by Jeff Buckley is absolutely gorgeous.
For a wonderful 10am start to the day, Simon Mayo on Scala is the best ever. He just lifts my spirits and brings back so many happy memories of being a young mum!
Padine xx
-
Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin (not a song but was the Pot Black theme tune last century!)
Padine xx
-
Yep. I learned to play it on the piano - I was quite good in those days ;D
Apparently Queen have reworded one of their songs to suit the current strange times but I can't remember which ::) and Cap Tom recorded You'll Never Walk Alone with Michael Ball recently. He had never heard it :o until introduced to the idea .
I don't know what I would choose right now. Need to get my thinking cap on :D it's going to be all 1930s/40s over the weekend?
-
"Wouldn't it be Luvverly?" from my favourite old musical "My fair Lady" (I sang this in a school concert in the 70s and had a blue and white gingham skirt on!)
-
Hi Padine
I love "hands up" too!! It is by Ottawan :) just found it on Youtube and it reminds me so much of a family holiday many years ago.
My favourite song that uplifts me is One Day Like This by Elbow...the strings totally bring a lump to my throat and goosebumps!! x
-
“I’m just a girl who can’t say no !!”
and
“Didn’t we have a wonderful time the day we went to Bagnor?” I played piano for a junior choir (of about 30 children) singing this one, their other item in the concert was “The Floral Dance” - I think Terry Wogan was at no.1 at the same time, happy memories :D
-
Oh those brought back memories ;D
-
With a little help from my friends :D
