I laughed when I heard the BBC Royal Corespondent describing her rather beautiful dress.

His words were

It's cream and has a veil.

Such a typical man...he did mention the designer but I was laughing too hard to hear who it was.

I thought she looked lovely but what a pity it rained. Did anyone see where they are having the reception. It was in a marquee in her parents garden. Not just any old marquee though....a glass one  :o

Heavens - what sycophancy from the press. I hadn't even heard of said woman until said wedding was reported on lunchtime Radio 4 news. I mean, sorry, but why are they reporting on the wedding of the sister of the Princess who is just another ordinary person - albeit presumably ridiculously rich and profligate to spend that sort of money.....I mean really! Big deal!

Bah humbug I say !!!!

I thought that was quite mean of the media as other photos have shown he was clearly holding up 3 fingers. His parents must be mortified the media have run with the story of him flicking v's!

I find it odd you've never heard of her Hurdity...she's famous for her pert bum!

I agree its odd the media have become so obsessed with her but i did enjoy looking at photos of the wedding!

I felt sorry for Pippa really. She gained such world wide celebrity because of her bridesmaid dress, that the press became fixated with her. Her wedding would have been much more discreet had it not been for her bottom! No pressure then for her own gown!

I wish them both well just as I would any young newly wed couple. I'm not at all concerned how they spend their money, after all it's their business to do with it what they choose to. £40,000 cubagirl, similar amount to what we both spent, hey?!

Of course there will be interest in her as she is a future Queens sister. Difficult not to have heard of her, and the future heir to the thrown was a Page Boy.

Who she is...well ...doesn't really matter...her dress was lovely.
I did see a young couple on a beach near us today getting wedding photos taken.

All brides are lovely on the " Big Day " and Pippa was no different.

I agree with Elizabethrose and wish them well.

£40,000 yep that's about what a good few of us clubbed together spent....ER, Cuba...me....who else lol.
If it was my daughter and if that's what she wanted and I had the money....then it would be fine with me.

Mrs Brown.

I don't believe all I have read about their wedding and it's costs. The Daily Mail have been obsessed with it, about 20 articles today. The fact is, it's a private affair and they know nothing, they're just making it up but whatever they have spent, it's up to them as her parents are millionaires as are his and her husband is very wealthy as well.

I feel sorry for Pippa as well. A while ago I watched an interview she gave on American TV and she said she doesn't like the media attention and she gets upset when she reads things about herself online and she likened it to bullying. I also read that the boyfriend she had at the time of William and Kate's wedding dumped her as he didn't like the media attention she received.

My nephew married at Gretna Green over the anvil. It was just great.....and the few of us that we're there had a ball.
I agree ER ...hubby would buy the ladder....only trouble is we live in a bungalow  ;D

I would far rather contribute towards something else...

I have no great interest in the Royals but I agree Megamind....the publicity must be a trial for them.

I never wanted fuss so we had small wedding. Money went towards house deposit. Our daughter didn't want fuss either & they just went off & got married with a couple of friends as witnesses. We found out afterwards. We were just as pleased as we were when son married a few months later, a big wedding. Even their big wedding didn't cost as much as Pippa's dress.

My dress cost £12, made by my mum.

They got married in the same church as quite a few friends as it's really close to us and my Goddaughter was christened there. The estate is lovely, although not everyone agrees with landed estates nowadays, but the fuss and security was a bit of a nuisance for the locals.

My OH was disappointed in the dress - he was hoping for something along the lines of her last one and rather thought the veil "spoiled the view"  ;D

I thought the glass marquee looked like a greenhouse  :-\

Agree about the glass marquee. Overhead shots had me thinking likewise.

It's all relative isn't it?  £40,000 to them in their income bracket would be the equivalent of a few thousand to a couple in a more modest income bracket, or £400 to us when we got married (19 years old, husband a student, I had a part time job, nowhere to live and my veil and headdress came from the Oxfam shop)  That was 40 years ago by the way and we are still together and in love despite all the tut tutting from family and relatives at the time and those who were convinced I must be pregnant (I wasn't)  ::).

Oodles of money may buy a lavish wedding but it is no guarantee of a happy marriage.

I still have receipt from our wedding meal somewhere. Meal & drinks for 10 came to £68ish. Wedding cars £5, both Austin Princesses from reputable company in Paisley (You'll know the one Mrs B) Think in total it all cost about £150 or thereabouts.

You're right BJ, oodles of money doesn't buy a happy marriage.

I'm getting married in sept in Gretna Green, just us 2.  They are arranging our witnesses, the photographer and the car, we need just turn up and do the deed! It's all my choice.  Women in my real life can't understand why I don't want a fuss.  Fiancés previous wife was a 'look at me everyone' and their wedding was £24,000 ! Within 12 months of the wedding she started an affair with her boss and by 18 months she'd gone

Our wedding was also cheap and cheerful. I don't see the point of spending a fortune on one day or spending thousands on a dress you'll never wear again.

Annie, my friend got married in Gretna Green and loved it.

Thanks Cubagirl, that's the beauty of people being different, if we all wanted the same thing there'd be chaos !

Neither of us have parents alive either, that was another reason, otherwise there'd only be us 2 on the top table ! X

Ours wss £300 all in  ;D and despite mutterings, we are still together.

Now - this lady is sister to the future Queen of England ...... and had two Royals in attendance, don't know who the other tots were.  Pippa had 2 dresses, one for the Service, another for the afternoon sit-down do apparently - well so did I, mine was for 'going away' ...... I kept it for years and the straw hat fell apart eventually  ::)

It annoys me when people say that they are unable to afford a deposit, when they spend out on a big wedding and a honeymoon far away!

Loved the flower arrangements outside the Church on the stone wall and it was great to see  :sunny:

;D - two much money around these days   :sigh: and lack of priorities - Himself was working until 9.00 p.m. the night prior to our wedding and I spent most of the evening with a male friend of long standing who called at my parents' house ....... the friend was unable to attend our Service as he was working so had come to boost my confidence but by then, the Valium was kicking in  :D

I do wonder how society people manage anxiety ...........  :-\

Son's stag was one day only at local centre where they did clay pigeon shooting, carting, then onto pub. Hubby was with them. After he left they went on somewhere else. But son was remarkably well next day. DIL did a long weekend in London. Theme park & shopping. Our daughter had a post wedding afternoon tea with her old school mates, me & my SIL.  All awfully civilised.  ::)

When booking Hotel accommodation in Southern England I check that they aren't a venue for stag/hen does or wedding receptions  ;)

You will love Gretna Annie, it's just such a lovely atmosphere and some great photos to be had.
My nephew was married there. Hubby and I drove down....the weather was shocking as it was December. There were only a few of us there and we were given a room to get changed into our glad rags. We then went across the road to the hotel and had a bit of a party. It was a lovely day.

My wedding was small. My mother wanted so many people to be invited but as we were paying for it ourselves we got to choose.....well hubby put his foot down with a very firm hand and mother backed off.  There were 15 of us, we married in our local church and then hired a room in a hotel for a meal. We then joined the dinner dance that was held in the hotel every Saturday night. We even got the first dance of the evening. It was lovely. We then bankrupted ourselves with a week in Paris. Such wonderful memories.

CLKD, I can understand your caution in booking hotels, but spare a thought for the poor people trying to organise 'civilised' hen dos who get turned down because everyone thinks a hen do is automatically going to be a bunch of rowdy drunks!  One of my friends nearly went demented trying to book some quiet accommodation in a rural/semi-rural location for a hen weekend.  The bride wanted enough space for us all to hang out together and catch up, a reasonably priced restaurant nearby so we could eat out one night and some good countryside nearby so we could go on some long walks.  But kept being offered 'hen weekend packages'.  Eventually, the chief bridesmaid had to lie and say she was booking a 'school reunion' (which was semi-true as most of the guests had known the bride since school).

Had the same problem when that chief bridesmaid was trying to organise her own hen do.  Eventually got the accommodation sorted (the fact that she specified it had to be near the pottery-painting we were doing probably reassured them we weren't a 'typical' hen do!) but when we turned up for the meal on the Saturday night, we found we were at one end of the restaurant, next to two other 'traditional' hen dos!  The manager ended up apologising to us and said if he had realised we would be 'so civilised' he would have put us somewhere quieter.  My friend had emphasised that it would be a quiet meal (3 of us didn't drink at all for religious/health reasons and the others only tended to have one glass of wine with a meal) but obviously hadn't been believed!

It will be wonderful Annie! You never know, once you've relaxed. It will be lovely no matter what. You, your new husband.

When DIL had her hen do, her sister booked an apartment in London for a weekend, complete with Jacuzzi. No mention of what it was for.

Oh Annie  :cake: .......... if we were going to celebrate our wedding after 40+ years I would have suggested jumping over the anvil ;-).  Simple.  I enjoyed what we choose in 1975, friends were 'welcome at the Church' as we had been engaged shortly B4 and Mum threw 2 parties for us; close family at the Service and reception, we had to be out of the Hotel by 4.00 -ish so that it could be prepared for the weekly dance.  We whizzed off, I never looked back  ;D

Annie - do try to get a photo of the event ;-).  1 good one to get framed and hung .......

I hope your wedding is everything you want.  Congratulations.

We celebrated our 25th last October. Mum paid for reception etc, I paid for my bridesmaid and my dresses, made just as I wanted. Stephen's parents supplied food for evening do. Had a wonderful day. I was amazed to walk into a packed Church. Half my village and Stephen's were in the Church, the other 2 halves were outside. Only 22 of us but they were those we dearly wanted to share our day with.

25th, dinner on steam train! A friend asked if I could have one wish what would it be. To arrive in a carriage pulled by horses. OH and BIL were in on it and the friend had arranged the evening arranged for us to be conveyed BT car to, yes my dream. A carriage and 2 beautiful shire horses. My dream. Even the rain stopped and the moon appeared. Perfect.
