Just got my bike out of the shed and dusted it down for the summer. I came across on the net, a cycling programme (for those intending to do long charity runs) which lasts for 20 weeks. Starts off with 2 20min runs and a 1 hour run in the first week building up to 180 miles per week at the end of the 20 weeks training. Don't intend to take it that far but thought I would at least follow it until week 10 which is still 3 times a week but covering 50-60 miles in total. Maybe even that is a bit optimistic but I would like to shift a few pounds so that I can fit into my jeans more comfortably!
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed being on my bike so I hope I can stick to it.
Anybody got any tips, hints etc.

Hi Bramble
I have started biking again (in the past 3 months) I do an hour every evening adn go up and down hillsto make my muscles work harder - I have lost 2 stone in weight. Would you mind sharing the cycling programme you found on the net as I would like to keep losing weight (another 2 stone if poss).
I too have found cycling VERY enjoyable seeing all the wildlife (rabbits, deers, foxes) and it certainly lifted my spirits .
I have been cycling locally but want to get stronger to go further afield.
I saw an advert for lady volunteers to cycle across the great wall of China but you needed sponsorship of at least £3,300 and I was not sure I could raise anywhere near that amount! ???

Hi Rebecca,
I will pm you the training programme. As I said, it does start off very gradually but it looks as though you could start at week 4 if you are doing an hour every night. Well done with the weight loss - you have done really well! Long may it continue!

Thanks for the training programme and complimenting my weight loss- not easy but certainly worth it - I only hope I manage to keep it off! ;)

Well done on losing weight girls. :)
I've been a keen cyclist for several years (hence my name) and have done 15 miles today, then swam 40 lengths and then a 3 mile group walk this evening. I bet you though I will weigh myself at weekend and not have lost an ounce. ::)
I have lost 2sts 4 lbs in the last 13 months and ground to a halt a while back and nothing is shifting it. For me exercise seems not to alter my weight and I've no idea why :sigh: I need to lose easily 2 stones more. I am very fit and feel really healthy but I am a typical "apple" shape and carry it all on the belly. I had to laugh recently because I went for acupuncture and she said "your legs are SO toned". ;) Pity about the rest of me ;D
I did the Race for Life recently for cancer research. Today I had a leaflet from Breast Cancer Campaign and they are promoting cycling events in the UK.
There's the Capital to Coast cycle challenge Sunday 28th June Esher-Hove (30-60 miles)
London to Paris 21-24 Aug. 320 km. Sounds great!
Lancashire Loop Cycle Sunday 27th September 18, 54 or 100 miles in Lancs.

Oooh....only yesterday I was trying to inspire my daughter to go on a short cycling break with me in the summer hols :)
I haven't been on a bike for years, but am really fancying the open roads, wind whistling through my hair! LOL
(And I wouldn't mind losing another half a stone ;) )

Hubby and I went out a few weekends ago, we parked in a village we know quite well then pedalled off to 3 villages we had never been to, the scenery was lovely: it was SO peaceful, only the birds and occasional cars ...... he has put his bike into the shed andmine is propped in our dining room ::) for easier access so when/if I get time I can whizz round the village to tone up those thigh muscles.
When we were courting we cycled everywhere as we couldn't afford a car .......... it's one of the best exercises and once the bike is purchased of, it's free 8)
-
I am really just a novice cyclist although I have had my new bike for a couple of years now. It is a folding mountain bike which means I can get it into the car easily(!). I am starting out slowly and intend to cycle 3 times a week (following the training programme) but I am still looking for flattish cycle paths! Hills will have to wait a bit until I get fitter! although I did find a couple of years ago that I got fitter quicker when cycling than when I walked a lot.

Around MK there are lots of cycle paths, pay for a days' parking, put on helmet and peddle away taking picnic and refreshment, good map and goggles. :clapping:
-
Rebecca,
How far do you cycle in an hour? My programme says 10-12 miles an hour but on forest tracks I can't get near that. Probably proper cycle tracks will be quicker?
Bramble
-
A lot depends on the type of bike/gears people ride as to speed etc.
-
For me it depends on the terraine, too many slopes is a good excuse to stop to admire the view ;) - it's not a race - yet!
-
A race - heaven forbid! but I would like to stick to the set distances and times every week. And by the end of the summer I could be a lean, mean, fighting machine!!!!! Or not! Bring on the lycra!
Bramble
-
Week one finished - first 20 miles done and dusted. Went to the cycle path today and managed to go a bit faster so it depends on the road surface for me what speed I can get to (and my fitness level as well). Enjoyed it better on the cycle path as well apart from a head wind so think I will stick to that for the next few weeks! Not only was there a piper practising in the layby (what a bonus!) but I met someone I know who was out walking so had a bit of a blether as well. Good result all round! Think I might quite like this cycling lark!
Week 2 about to start and 25 miles to clock up..............

I walked past a lovely pink mountain bike yesterday and it got me thinking. I am soooo tempted to give this a try, but then I remembered the last time I went cycling. I was so nervous I stayed on the pavement half the time (village roads) and my legs were like jelly when I got back (lack of muscle use and probably sheer terror ;D ).
If I lived near some good cycle paths I might give it a go, I used to cycle to a farm ten miles from my home along one of the worst roads in the county to go horseriding as a teenager and never though anything of it.
Good luck with the programme
Micki x
-
Micki,
I am not brave enough to cycle on the roads with traffic. Fortunately there is a cycle path a few miles from me so I just put my bike into the car. I also have some forest tracks close at hand so am very lucky to have a choice.
Bramble
-
Micki - you'll love it and it's great exercise! :) I am lucky in that I live in the country and can go on back roads for miles. I also have a bike rack if I feel like cycling a bit further afield. Bike racks are not that expensive and you can often get them on special offers.
A tip - before you buy a new bike make sure that they allow you to test ride it. ;) After all, it's a fair outlay and you want it to be right for you for some time to come. I went with a friend to buy her new bike at one of the nationwide bike/car accessory showrooms and I was horrified that she was only allowed to sit on it! What good is that? ::)I went to an independent shop and he had a great selection of bikes and his prices were as good as the "big boys". He let me ride on several .... down the road and back again (as many times as I liked ;)) he advised me on things I wasn't sure about and gave me a discount card for future purchases with him. We were so impressed with his helpfulness that hubby decided he'd treat himself to a new bike too and he did us an even better deal on the 2!! :) Also, don't forget a helmet!!
-
Here is my stake in the ground:
Week 1 - 20 miles - 5ft 5in and 9st 10lbs (at least 10lbs to lose so fingers crossed!)
Bramble
-
Hi Bramble
Sorry I missed your question - just read it now - I think I must do about 10-14 miles an hour - went to Halfords and bought one of those cycleometers's but mine decided not to work - so I must take the bike into Halfords for them to look at it!
Well done with your week 1, I havn't started mine yet due to my daughters exams (I'm sure I am more stressed about it than they are!) :(
Will be watching your progress though ! and look to start myself shortly.
Rebecca ;)
-
Rebecca,
Did you start off gradually with your cycling and how long was it before you noticed you were getting fitter? I am feeling a bit tired today (day off cycling) but I guess the one thing the cycling programme doesn't take into consideration is age! Perhaps I should have started more slowly. Will see how this week goes with 25 miles then might drop back down to 20 and back up to 25 and then 30........... Mmmmmm. May be more to this than meets the eye!
:gym:
Bramble
-
Go as far as you feel able to. Stop occasionally and enjoy the view. Take a drink/snack, stop, listen to the birds. It's not a race ;) ...... I try to go as far as I can but keeping in mind the stamina needed for the return trip ???
-
Hi Bramble
I started off doing 20 mins, then 40 mins then an hour. I also sterted off on fairly flat surfaces i.e canal path and forest, then took on the inclines gradually. Started noticing a difference in my fitness after 3 weeks - at first my face was VERY RED but after a time this was not so intense, also noticed that I slept better at night. If I don't exercise during the day now I tend to wake up at 2/4 am and have trouble dropping off again >:(
I used to cycle sometimes with hubby (he is a little younger than me, so proved a challenge to me :o)
Have just ordered myself a new raleigh bike on the cycle to work scheme- should be delivered next week. I intend getting a bike carrier for the car and going further afield as it may get boring taking the same 3 routes locally. As CLKD says, I am going to take a snack and stop and enjoy surroundings. :)
Happy cycling ;)
Rebecca
-
We cycled everywhere as kids. Only 1 car in the family in those days. Hubby and I used to go courting on our cycles, we travelled miles at weekends. Distances I wouldn't consider these days ::) ......... we're getting 'into' it again now that we have an estate and can load them inside to travel further.
-
Was talking to a couple of friends last night who thought I was a bit ambitious with my cycling plan. Partly I agree with them but part of me wants to prove they are wrong. However I have taken on board what they have said and have decided to only do 3 times a week for the first month and see how I get on. I will still stick to the cycle path which is fairly flat and well surfaced so that will be around 8-10 miles a time. I have found the next day that although my legs are not all that sore, across my shoulders is! It either means I am cycling all tensed up (not impossible!) or my bike needs adjusting. Will wait and see what happens. Even when I am only out for an hour I take water and a banana with me and stop half way for a break. I am really enjoying it though despite all.
Bramble
-
One of our routes is slightly over 7 miles round ....... so when I'm tired I can't face it ::) .... even though it's enjoyable scenery ........ it's my thighs that give in!
-
Just putting this up in case anyone is reading and thinking about buying a new bike. I have a hybrid bike and it is wonderful. When I went to choose a new bike I went with the idea of a mountain bike in my head, because that's what I had before.
The shop owner said "I'll sell you one if that's really what you want but how many mountains do you ride up?" I was :-[!! He suggested a hybrid and said ride it for a week and you'll never part with it. I ride mainly on roads but do some tracks and trails and it is brilliant on both. He says a lot of people buy mountain bikes because they "look the business" and they are great if you are always on very rough terrain but they'll hold you back on a road.
http://www.falconcycles.co.uk/CORP/cb/hybrids.html
-
I have often wondered what hybrid bikes are - now I know! They look to be quite lightweight as well. Mine is a folding mountain bike that I can get into the car. Only bought it last year so can't justify changing it yet! I feel as though I am getting to be bike-obsessed. This will probably last until the first week of constant rain! I have been trawling some of the cycle forums in the States - now they are bike-obsessed! A low rider will only do 1000miles a year and most of them do 3000+ with rides upwards of 60 miles at a time! (wonder what their thigh muscles look like!) A whole new world in unfolding!
Congratulations Rebecca on your new bike - do you have to cycle to work on it every day for the scheme to work or only on occasions?
Bramble
-
Thanks for that Penny - a friend of mine has a really old Claud Butler - wouldn't part with it for the world.
For those of you wishing to explore cycle tracks on holiday I have always looked at this one http://www.devon.gov.uk/tarkatrail.htm and wished I was a cyclist. Maybe one day I will give it a go.
Taz x
-
Ooooh - and i could even hire a hybrid - no excuse for me now ::) http://www.tarkabikes.co.uk/Tariff.html
-
Glad to be of help girls. Taz - that's a great idea actually about hiring one and putting it through its paces before spending.
-
I am planning to use my bike for work and pleasure Bramble -
You can check the scheme out here http://www.cycletoworknow.com/
The scheme allows you to purchase the bike of your choice at a reduced rate if your employer agrees you set up a contract over 12-18 months to pay for it gradually, you also save on the VAT. They have Claud Butler bikes here also ;D
I also got very tight shoulders but I adjusted the saddle to the right height and my shoulders were much better the next time I rode the bike. If anyone finds some decently priced bike clothes - do let me know I had a shock when I went into my local shop, they were really expensive.
Rebecca
-
Rebecca - that sounds a great scheme.
My best bargains in cycling clothes (and bike accessories) have come from Lidl. If you don't use Lidl they have certain themes - say gardening, cycling, horse-riding and that's the only time you can get them. If you go on to the Lidl site and request them to email you each week with the bargains, you can then be first in the queue. I have seen whole groups of cyclists waiting for the shop to open!! ;) Aldi also operate the same way. Cycling theme must be due pretty soon as we haven't had one for a while! ;)
I've had cycling shorts (padded, anti-sweat and washed a zillion times and still like new) for about £6. I've had cycling tops, jackets, reflective stuff etc and everything has been marvellous value and great quality.
-
Your all so fit put me to shame well done all of you.
-
I feel the same Polly - not sure where to start. Don't think I could cycle if the exercise bike I tried was anything to go by. Only made half a kilometre!!
Taz x
-
Taz & Polly - just take it easy and enjoy it!! It's just lovely being out in the fresh air and if you can get someone to go with you it's nice to have company. It is much better than riding an exercise bike - no comparison at all.
When my friend decided to join me, the first evening she managed about a mile and was absolutely shattered. (She was very overweight BTW) I said "we'll turn back when you feel like it. No pressure!" She turned the bike round there and then and we headed slowly for home. ;D
Each time I went out I asked her to come, sometimes she did, sometimes she was too tired & I went alone but each time she went a little further. She was then doing 5 miles and I think the most she's done with me is 20 miles.
For a fair old time I was not using the gears on my bike to the best of their ability and after the male members of my family intervened, I have to admit that their lessons helped! ::)
-
I live in the city, But got a bike years ago to cycle to work as got up early hours to work. Bought helmet lights trousers all the stuff looked wonderful ;D but would only ride on pavements to afraid on roads. But did come off it when turning a corner as a woman walking towards me to avoid her (felt such a fool)
Stoped working early hours not been on bike since probably about nine years now''''
But it is good exercise and I applaude you all
-
I think riding a real bike is much easier than riding an exercise bike - don't know why but I found it to be so!
Had a not very good bike ride today. Tossed up whether to take my fleece or my waterproof jacket with me. Opted for fleece as it was kinda cold. Wrong choice. Was about 3 miles out when the heavens opened. Stuck it out for another 2 miles then turned and headed for home. By the time I got back to the car I was very cold and very very wet! But still - another 10 miles on the clock!
-
Forgot to say Rebecca that I have found Lidl and Aldi both good for walking gear so I guess their cycling stuff is of the same quality and value. You got to be early though when the shop opens as they don't always have a lot of what's on offer.
Bramble
-
I'll be checking out Aldi and Lidl shortly Bramble - thanks for that.
How do you clock you mileage done? Can you recommend a good gadget to fit to the bike? Mine is VERY complicated and has stopped working!!!
Will let you know when my bike arrives ;)
Officially lost below the 2 stone mark now - but need to shift another 2 stone to hopefully get into size 10 again (was size 20) :o
I don't tell too many people that as I'm not particularly proud !!! :-\ I'll be stepping up my bike rides to burn off more fat
Rebecca
-
Rebecca,
I have a cycle computer. It is a wired one but there are lots of wireless ones around now. I find it very easy to use and it is a great incentive. It is made by Krippel-Watches and I think I got it out of Argos. It's got 20 functions although I am sure they are all pretty much the same. Although it keeps clocking up the miles on the odometer, I have reset it at the start of every week so I will be able to check weekly mileage and elapsed riding time and average speed. It switches itself off automatically to save battery life. I do so like gadgets.
You must have some determination to lose so much weight - you should feel very proud of yourself. I hope the next few stones will come off easily for you. Bikes a go-go!
Bramble
-
Determination and desperation I think Bramble.
Have just ordered my cycle computer - http://www.cycletoworknow.com:80/cart/details/150/sigma-bc906-computer-product-information
No stopping me now!
Rebecca ;D
-
I'll order the lycra Rebecca!
I thought I would have a change today and cycle along the canal path - nice and flat I thought and one I had walked along loads of times. No! Now really know why canals have locks - so boats can go uphill! Really tired when I got back to the car! However, another 9 miles - can't cycle much this coming week as busy busy so am trying to get my mileage in quickly. Think I will return to the tarmac cycle path next time and give the canal a miss until I am fitter!
Must get a bottle holder when I'm next in town as I ran out of water today - it was so hot!
Bramble
-
Don't know if this cheers me up or not (from the cycle to work web site). For my BMI it would take 13 hours to burn off 6700 calories which is equivalent to 2 lbs! So cycling 3-4 times a week for an hour at a time, I will lose 2 lbs a month. Mmmmm..........May have to cut out the choccie biscuits after all!
Bramble
-
Or only have half the amount of biccies ? Been too hot for me to go out on my bike today so did gardening instead ;)
-
Got rained on again today! But kept going! I don't think it is getting any easier yet - but I did 14 miles today and don't feel too bad. So maybe I am getting better slowly.
Bramble
-
14 :o
I remember Hubby and I cycled round Elan Valley many++ years ago; 3/4 the way round his pedal broke, then it began to rain heavily ......... we had to walk up hills and cruise down, I vowed never again I was SO cold. The memory faded eventually so eventually we bought new bikes ;D - the furthest in recent years has been nearly 8 miles in one day !
-
It's been raining solidly here all morning so no bike for me today unless it clears up prettty quick. Will have to wait until Monday for my next cycling fix - 45 miles to do next week according to my programme!
Bramble
-
My brother in law took part today in the 54 mile London - Brighton bike ride.
He managed to finish ok, but he had been training since March for it.
Maybe if I keep my training up I'll be just about ready for next years :o
How is your programme doing Bramble? Good weather forecast here in the south - must get out again this week ;D ;D
Rebecca
-
Hi Rebecca,
Just finished week 3 which was 30 miles over 3 days. This week is 45 miles over 3 days but think I may take 4. Still can't do the distance in the times they specify so am just putting the extra time in. ie 30-40 mins for 8-10 miles - takes me 50 mins to do 8 miles! Hey ho - onwards and onwards!
Don't think I could ever do 50+ miles in a day! Saddle sore or what! Do you know what his training schedule was?
Bramble
-
Bramble - training schedule was 16 mile at the weekend round the park in Richmond.
He may be sadle sore - I'll check !!!!
Rebecca
-
Well done Bramble!! :foryou:
-
Well Done Bramble
How is your weight doing ? My weight loss seems to slow down when I don't get out for a cycle. Did some gardening today but it seems to be the cycling which really shifts it for me.
Be careful of the heat this week if you go cycling :)
Rebecca
-
Rebecca,
Haven't weighed myself this week - will wait until Monday and that will be 4 weeks. Don't think I have lost any weight - jeans still feel tight! Not thinking about it though!
Have you got your new bike yet?
Am taking lots of water with me, even bought a new bottle rack for the bike so I will be fine. The cycle track I am using is half under trees and half in the open so it is not too bad but I will stop and drink regularly. Thanks for the advice.
Bramble

I take delivery of my new Raleigh bike on Friday this week :) :)
I have had quite a horrible and frustrating week so far so can't wait to get on my new bike and ride off into the sunset!!!! ::)
Will update you when it arrives - I was told today that they have fitted one of those wireless mileometers so there is no stopping me now, when I get cheesed off about something I'll do something positive and jump on my bike rather then be tempted by a bar of chocolate!!!! I'll be the mad menopausal women on the footpath dressed in purple spandex
Rebecca
-
Rebecca - you are nearly as much of a bike-anorak as me now!! ;D
I was in a charity shop today and found a couple of Cycling mags for 20p each and was THAT excited!! ::) ;D
I love your description of your bike computer by the way. ;) I have a digital one and it's fab, only a few quid but worth it's weight in gold. Takes all the guesswork out of distances. Enjoy. :)

Hope I have not upset anyone posting this info -I do hope I have not broken the no commercial links rule Elizabeth ::)
Rebecca :peace:
-
Rebecca,
I have seen the cycling ones. I have a Garmin for when I was hillwalking. Used to come home, connect it up to my PC and map out exactly where I had been (most times we did trackless walks so this was really useful). Sad or what? When I first got my bike I used it to check the accuracy of the computer on my bike. I suppose I could use it now for my bike and download the data onto my PC but that seems a bit nerdish! Would save me writing it in a little book which I do now!!!!!
Next question fellow cyclists - what do you carry with you on a bike ride however short or long?
I carry:
mobile phone, water, biscuit, little book & pen, £10 (just in case I pass an ice-cream shop), fleece or waterprooof jacket.
First aid kit and more water in the car.
Bramble
PS. Lets all go on a virtual cycle run Friday night to christen Rebecca's new bike! Shall we?
-
Got them!! :-[ :-[
We have a couple of horses and DD and DH do a lot of endurance riding so he bought one as soon as they came out. The price has dropped loads since. He lends me it when I go on long walks too. Marvellous things.
-
Bramble - Got a call from the bike company today and they said that they can deliver my husbands raleigh bike tomorrow - but mine won't be ready until 11th August :( :( I am soooo disappointed :o :o
Not sure what we are going to do now as hubby's new bike is bound to be much more 'superfast' than my clapped out 17 year bike!!!! It will take ALL my effort tokeep up with him..
Would hate the thought of you doing that virtual cycle run in vain tomorrow !!!
Oh well ---- I'll go with the flow!
Rebecca
-
Rebecca,
How disappointing for you - bet you feel gutted! Never mind, we will have our virtual cycle run in August!
Went for a cycle today along the canal path in the other direction from all the locks. Bowled along for 8 miles thinking this is ok (pride goeth etc etc), then turned for home - straight into a head wind!! My legs were like jelly when I got back to the car - came home and promptly fell asleep for an hour! Only 11 more miles to do this week so having tomorrow off although I have to admit this cycling caper is becoming addictive!
Just ordered a pair of padded knickers. Have you got a pair and if so, are they helpful?
Bramble
-
I have not got padded knickers but will look out for some if they are good - do they really cushion your private bits? ::) ::)
Cycle to work told me this morning that they would phone around and try and locate a Raleigh Voyager bike for me in another shop - have not heard anything from them as yet! :(
Maybe the credit crunch has made bike sales soar !!
Rebecca
-
Will let you know if the knickers work - I was a bit sore after the 16 miles so I expect to do a test run with them next week! Out tomorrow again but only got 11 miles to cover - hope it stays fair as the forecast is rain.
Fingers crossed that your bike is available sooner. It's a bit like Christmas not happening isn't it?
Bramble
-
People cycle up real hills in Wales, it made my thighs ache when we drove by in our car ::)
-
Well, 4 weeks on my bike, 120 miles under my wheels so I weighed myself today - 4 weeks ago I was 9st 10lbs - today I weighed in at ...............9st 10lbs!!! Gutted or what. hey ho, cycle on!
Bramble
-
Oh Bramble what a disappointment. You must feel alot fitter though and that is a huge bonus ;) ;) ;)
Do you think it would help if you cut down on carbs and fat?
I wish I was your weight though, I started dieting i March at 14st 2lb and today I weigh 12st 1lb if only I could get under the 12st I would have the drive to keep going. I have been stuck at this weight for a while now but I have had some stresy issues to deal with recently. Hang in there Bramble I'm sure it will budge shortly. :) :)
Rebecca
-
Just had a thought Bramble, do you think that you could have gained muscle weight ?
Rebecca
-
Don't think so Rebecca - not in 4 weeks. And I still find it hard going. However, I am not downhearted - I shall keep going! 45 miles to do this week.......Let's hope the weather stays fair - it is not all that good in Scotland. Rain today in the morning! Don't think we are going to get the heatwave that's forecasted for down south.
Bramble
-
So forget the weight! Enjoy the ride. Enjoy that you are able to go that distance, it makes me weary thinking about anything above 8 miles a day! Especially when it's hot. Do you do the same route ......... perhaps you told us earlier and I haven't kept up ;)!
4 weeks is a very short time scale in the over-all plan .......... My cycle is in our dining room but I haven't had the energy to lift it out ... yet!
-
What loverly scenery you must get in Scotland 8)
I envy you Bramble.... and all that real fresh air....My father is Scottish (from Hamilton) I hope to enjoy that part of the country next year as it is his 90th Birthday and I want to treat him to a trip back home.
Rebecca
-
I did 22 miles yesterday and it was hot and sticky I can tell you! Loads of midges about but a drink and sarnie at a pub went down a treat! That's the only time now that I eat bread .... when I'm out.
Might have a ride late tonight when it cools off a bit!
-
Penny,
I am very impressed with 22 miles - 16 has been my farthest up til now. And have you got padded cycling shorts/knickers?
Rebecca - I am very lucky where I live as I have a choice of woods with fairly bumpy tracks, the canal path or an old railway line which has been turned into a tarmaced cycle path. All out in the country and just minutes (by car!) from my front door!
Bramble
-
Can you do a 'round circle' or do you have to stop at a Pub before turning back to retrace your cycle path? Let me know what time you are reaching the Pub ......... [cos the one here seems to have died a death :-\ ] .......... a long iced orange juice would be loverley ....... ;)
-
Bramble - yes, wouldn't be without my padded cycling shorts (bargain from Lidl about 5 years ago, washed a and worn a million times and still like new). I am counting the days until Lidl have the bike stuff in again because I want a new pair in next size down. These nearly come up under my boobies now I've lost over 2 stones!
I have done about this distance a few times but don't think I'd do much more to be honest. I feel fit at healthy at this distance and I reckon it's not bad for a woman in her mid-50's. Don't want to make myself feel completely worn out! ;)
16 miles is excellent Bramble ... main thing is that you're out in the fresh air and you are enjoying cycling! I'd do this a million times over than a gym session I tell you. ;)
-
My cycle run was more like a nature ramble today - I saw lots of rabbits all sizes and colours even black, a sparrowhawk beside the path unfortunately munching on one of those rabbits, a deer and a red squirrel! No people apart from a very fast rider going the other way who didn't even say hello. Slower riders (and I don't mean slower than me as everyone is faster than me at the moment!) always say hello but the other ones just whizz past..........
Reckon there will be a queue outside Lidl the next time the offer is on. There sports stuff is really good value.
Bramble
-
Well that is week 5 completed now - 170 miles done since I started. Can't believe I have done that much already. That was 45 miles in week 5 and the same for the next 3 weeks. The cycle track was very busy this morning - lots of people walking, running, pushing prams, cycling and a whole posse of foreign kids heading west.
Bramble
-
........... a sparrowhawk beside the path unfortunately munching on one of those rabbits, a deer and a red squirrel! ...... " one very fat sparrowhawk unable to fly ???
-
Not sure if it was a sparrowhawk - not too good on birds - but definitely a raptor of sorts!
Bramble
-
You missed my drift ............... ::)
I haven't seen 'our' sparrowhawk for weeks. I did see a kestrel hovering whilst Hubby and I were walking at the weekend, I was too tired to cycle ??? so we stepped out. When I think how easily I found cycling in my teens and 20s ............ now it's easier to walk ;D
-
Sorry CLKD, got you now that I have read it again. Yes, it would have been a very fat sparrowhawk as well as very big if it had taken down a deer!!!!
Bramble
-
It was worrying about Cat that made your mind not keep up with my thread , gosh that's good English - not ::)
How far have we been today? It's blown hard and thundered here so kept my head down ..... bike indoors ....... caught up with chores which kept me active then went to see a friend who has been on her X-trainer and had a 40 min swim this morning, all before 11.00 a.m.! >:(
-
Not been on my bike today (did 14 miles yesterday though!). Have put my bike in for a service. Silly me - I thought it would be like the car except an awful lot quicker ie do it while I wait! Noooooooooo. One shop wanted it all week! The one I have put it into today says I should get it back at 3pm tomorrow!! I thought I would get it back the same day!!! The world of cycling is vast and mysterious! So hoping to get out tomorrow night if it is dry. It has pelted down with rain here all day today. Garden is flattened!
Bramble
-
Anyone watching the Tour de France? It's on one of those 'outter channels' ::) ......... once I get my thigh muscles better toned I will be keener to go on the cycle more regularly .............

14 miles ........... well done Bramble! :) You are getting a free service with your new bike aren't you? Most places do this now.
-
No Penny, I had to pay for it. Got my bike last year from Arg** so just went to a little bike shop nearby for service. And a can of oil-stuff.
Bramble
-
I found an old fashioned oil can in a box from my late Dad's garage recently ....... bright red and grubby ..... probably older than I am!
How far are we going today? Kettle is on if anyone gets this far ;D
-
Today is Wednesday so that is walking day. Tomorrow the bike. Hope to breach the 200 mile barrier tomorrow! Went along the canal yesterday in the direction of Edinburgh. Nice and flat!! Liked that! A lot!!
Bramble
-
You are making me feel very lazy Bramble :)
Every day at work I promise myself that as soon as I get in I will get changed and go for my brisk two mile-ish walk but then, I get in, get changed, and suddenly don't feel that I have the energy to actually get going again.
I must try harder!!
Well done on the cycling :spin:
Taz x
-
Taz,
The difference is that I don't work! Don't be too hard on yourself. And I live on my own so have no-one else to care for or do things for. I really don't think I would have the energy now to work but have wondered in the past whether work would have helped me these last few years. I do do voluntary work but the thought of a routine now drives me crazy!
Bramble
-
I've done 10 miles a day for the last 4 days ... I love it but sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to fit everything in.
Sorry you had to pay for your service. I try and use independent shops for most things because I like to support small businesses and often you get little perks and better service from them too.
Cooler cycling tonight so cycled faster!! ;D
-
Thanks Bramble - you are very kind :)
Taz x :thankyou:
-
Well done with your mileage Bramble. I got my new Raleigh bike delivered 3 days before I went on holiday so did not get much chance to ride it. :(
Am now in Phoenix Arizona and it is 116 degrees this weekend, there is bike rental nearby but frankly I think we would be pretty stupid to waste our money in this heat ! I am so missing my bike rides though. Checked at Lidl for riding stuff before I left the Uk but they did not have any :(
I think I will have a walk in the morning before the sun gets too hot.
Keep up with the mileage.
Rebecca
-
Oh Rebecca, cycling in that heat in Arizona must be unbearable, have you been to Sedonna yet?... it gets hotter there. 8) 8)
I am getting a bike tomorrow :o. I just want a bike that I can cycle around the village & go to the local shops to get a few things rather then take the car. It is a smalll bike with a basket on it, but hey it is a start . I got it from my M.I.L. who doesn't need it any more.
Watch this space.
-
I don't like heat so parts of the World would be 'too much' for me ............ I don't do early mornings either ;D ..... we were going cycling yesterday but I was too tired to move! It's ready though.
How long are you in the US for? Is cycling 'big' over there?
-
Girls - check out this site -
www.freeyourbike.org.uk
they are giving out free packs about where to cycle, how to keep your bike in good condition and preparing for riding.
DS did 16 miles today but I've been busy doing other things & not had time to ride ... yet! Might squeeze an hour in before bedtime.
-
Rebecca,
I am so envious of you being in Arizona. I had booked a holiday there that went from Phoenix down to Tucson and then up to the Grand Canyon about 3 years ago and cancelled it at the last minute (panic, anxiety etc). I am determined to go there eventually! Congratulations on your new bike. Will look forward to hearing about your travels on it.
Cazikins - congrats on your bike. I found it hard at first, still do, but I really enjoy it. I hope you do too!
Penny - got my padded knickers in the post on Saturday - still have to try them out but they seem VERY padded. Takes me back a few years........
Bramble
-
I picked up an old book at a garden fete last year and have finally started reading it.
Thought some of you cyclists might enjoy it! ;) It's called "Full Tilt" and is by Dervla Murphy. In 1963 she rode her bike from Ireland to India. Bear in mind that it was not like the bikes of today!!
On a stressful day in our house, the idea of getting on a bike and just riding away is very tempting. ;)
-
There's an awful lot of hills between here and India so don't think I would make it (with or without my padded knickers!).
Bramble
-
I read that years ago and really enjoyed it. Did she have her very young daughter with her or was that pre-child? I might have a look-see ....... to read it again, she's written since and is always very entertaining!
If you head this way PF, the kettle is always on!
-
Just did 20 miles today - all flat along the canal - and got soaked twice! I feel tired now! Had my padded knickers on and bum was fine. Shoulders sore though at
the end of the ride and knees a bit achey now.
The rain looks as though it is on for the day here.
Bramble

CLKD - just checked my mails from the hotel reception and saw your question. I am in the US for 3 weeks.
Drove over from Phoenix to Las Vegas for a couple of days and has a flutter on the slot machines but did not win big :(
Far too hot in Vegas, it seemed hotter than Phoenix - got into Santa Barbara California yesterday and being on the coast now it is Much cooler :) A few fires to watch out for though!!!
Looking to rent a bike tomorrow and get around along the seafront - I soo miss my cycling.
Bramble - I'm sorry to hear about your panic/anxiety attack. You really must try and go to Phoenix - it is a lovely place and the hotels are Very cheap as most Americans avoid it in July as it is too hot. I paid about £40.00 per night for a 4* hotel - beautiful, the British Airways flights were also cheap. Last week in Page, Arizona a Navajo indian took me round a cave where he grew up as a child, the pictures I got were breathtaking.
I look foward to catching up with your cycling news when I return to the UK next week.
Rebecca ;)
-
Cazikins,
How are you getting on with your bike? Are you enjoying it?
Bramble
-
Oh Bramble, I knew I shouldn't have mentioned getting a bike. I am ashamed to say that I have not taken it out yet ::).
I went to Halfords to buy a cover for it (as I knew if I put it in the garage it would not be used) & it has been in the garden ever since. I nearly rode it to the shops the other day but it was easier to go in the car. :(
I will do it, I haven't given up yet - I just need the right day & to be in the right frame of mind.
I did go on a 20 mile bike ride about 15 years ago, it was on the Tissington Trail, in Derbyshire if I remember correctly. It was an old railway line & I really enjoyed it. We had Bakewell pudding when we got back, very nice it was too.
Love Cazikins xx
-
Cazikins,
One of these days you will do it. And remember the first time will be the worst - after that it will become a habit and get easier. I remember the first week when I had 20 miles to do and it felt like a mountain to climb and now I can do 20 miles in a day!
Bramble
-
Did anybody get to Lidl for the "cycling special offers"? I was there at 9 am and got some panniers for DHs bike, some bike lights and some gloves for DS and a few pairs of cycling socks. Now I know you don't need special socks for cycling BUT these are really well made and SO cheap. They're breathable and shaped beautifully to mould to your feet.
The helmets looked good value for money and the gel seats too. Nearly bought some cycling trousers but I have a couple of pairs plus shorts and they are still as good as new. The jackets were tempting too, but I must wear mine out first! ;)
-
Rebecca,
I bought a jacket and top. The jacket is just showerproof but at £10 who can complain!
Bramble
-
Any one watching the final day of the Tour de France later?
-
No - didn't know it was taking place ::)
-
It's the end of 3 weeks time trials, mountain stages - I watch to enjoy the scenery ;D - and the Big Fling down the Champs de whateverit's called ............. over now for another year ....... it's been wall-to-wall sport today ::); F1, MotoGP, Supabikes ........
-
After 3 weeks of holidaying in the US- I'm back :)
Raring to get on my new bike ladies ;)
Thanks for the PM Bramble unfortunately I missed out at Lidl - will watch out for other bargains though.
Great trip back from Phoenix today - bit chilly here though, the spa at the hotel last night was SO hot, hubby and I could not get in it!! We bought some Lindt chocolate and strawberries and out the chocolate outside in the sun and it melted in 4 minutes so we dipped the strawberries ;D ;D ;D
I think I really have gone back to my childhood with the meno :drunklaf: :drunklaf:
House was still standing when we got back and was so relieved to see it as it was the first time we had left our 18 year old daughter on her own in the house..... I'm sure a few parties did go on - but nothing too bad and the cleaning up was good. neighbour did complain about the music though and said he had heard it 5 times in total ::) ::)
Oh, to be young and carefree again ???
Rebecca
-
5 times, did he have his glass to the wall then! That's not bad in how many weeks .........
Welcome home! It was like Autumn here one morning last week followed by rain, rain and .............
-
Autumn - Now you're talking my sort of language :whist:
-
Hats and gloves, warm socks and hot cocoa ........... can still go out on the bikes though!
-
Hi Rebecca,
Glad to see you back and that you had a great holiday (and that the house was still standing!). Looking forward now to hearing about your new bike!
Bramble
-
Hubby said we should get onto our cycles again but we ran out of time over the weekend. How's it going Girls?
-
Still pedalling away CLKD but it does not seem to be getting any easier! However I am doing 20 mile rides now when I was taking a week to do 20 miles when I started so something must be happening! Doing 45-50 miles every week - out on my bike 3-4 times a week. Hoping to crack the 500 mile mark by the end of August and then head for the 1000 mile mark before Christmas but this is very weather dependent! Alright if it is a dry autumn but if wet and/or windy then it's a no-no.
Bramble
-
Well done Bramble keep going, you are nearly at the 500 mile mark. You put me to shame, I have been out a few times on my new bike and I am embarassed to say that the most miles I have done is 15. Iam now feeling very bad that I did not do more cycling and Autumn will be on us very soon. I am thinking of fitting a pannier to my bike to put some shopping in, this may encourage me to ride more.
I am also looking to buy a bike carrier for the car so I can drive somewhere different to cycle.
You must have lost weight now Bramble ::)
Rebecca
-
When we lived in Wales in the 1980s a lady had two dachsunds which rode in the front bicycle carrier, I saw her this Summer and she had a dachsund at her heels, don't know if she still rides the bike though ..... she used to peddle with apparent ease round the town ::)
-
I have a basket on the front of my bike, it's a Pashley Princess, a proper 'old fashioned' bike, it's beautiful :)
My husband bought it for me for christmas about 11 years ago, i wasn't allowed to have a bike when I was young, so it was my first :)
I am too frightened of the traffic round here, about 3 years ago I worked 2 miles from home & started to cycle to work & back (& at lunchtime) in the summer, but one morning a woman overtook me on a slight bend & actually brushed my arm with her car, I was a wreck by the time I got to work & haven't been on it since
:(
I am so angry with the woman, she only had to wait about 5 seconds to get around the bend >:(
What makes it worse is she had probably just done her school run, because she turned into the housing estate!
-
Is there somewhere more quiet that you could cycle? We put the bikes into the Volvo estate and drive to safer areas: not just safe from cars but so that I don't run into anyone myself! ::) if I meet anyone on the paths I shout 'new bike one careful owner' and people soon shift :P
-
i used to live in a village when I first got the bike CLKD & there were miles of 'safe' roads :)
I used to cycle about 14 miles twice a week.
Not sure if I could persuade my husband to go anywhere to cycle, he also goes much faster than me!!
Don't have any friends around here that cycle.
Will have to give it some thought :)
-
How about a cycling club? I'm sure you would find like-minded folks in your area?
-
Hotnbothered - those Pashley bikes are beautiful aren't they?
Have you thought about putting little notices in you local mag/shop window/cycle shop notice board saying something like
Lady bike-owner is looking for similar to go on local bike rides. Please ring ......
In our village mag a few months ago there was a similar one from a "retired but fit man" looking for cycling partner.
-
Thanks ladies, something to think about :)
Yes Pennyfarthing it is :)
-
BUMP - when we go to Suffolk in June should we take our cycles?
-
Sounds like a good idea CLKD - I haven't got one but I remember lots of people cycling when I lived there! Mind you, if you are going to the Woodbridge area it's not as flat as it's made out to be!
Taz x
-
We went for a long walk today. I am shattered, doubt whether I'll get out of bed in the morning >:( it was very cold until we got going, I lack stamina ............. <crawling in to a hot bath now>
-
I last rode my bike mid-December - so am hoping to dust it off today and do a ride after lunch. The sun is gorgeous here today but it is very cold.
I have all the thermal gear to go under my cycling stuff so I should be OK. DS has been riding his bike every single day right through the winter. Even in the snow and ice. ::) He drives to work and back so his bike is purely for exercise. He reckons it is brilliant cycling in the dark when there's snow and ice about. I think it's considered an extreme sport! ;)
I have done LOADS of walking this winter though and time myself. I have also been on a few walks with a local group which has made a change. I am also quite happy walking by myself with my music in my ears though. :) I find now that I feel really sluggish if I don't get my walk in each day.
-
Well done Penny - I must admit that I have been really bad at fitting my daily walk in lately. I just can't muster up the enthusiasm which is a shame because I love winter walking normally. You have made me determined to start again. I only do a brisk two mile walk which takes me just under 30 minutes. I know that to lose weight I really should walk for at least 40 minutes without a break but if I do that then after a couple of days the fibro kicks in and I have to stop. So I reckon a two mile one is at least good for heart and bones even if it wont shift a few pounds. If I go straight from work I am ok - it's the fact that I get in and then have a cup of tea and check my emails and on here and then the time just goes...
Taz x :foryou:
-
We've been to Salcey Forest this morning, very cold but bright blue sky. Met a couple of people we haven't seen for several years, had a walk on the elephant path then back to the cafe for hot chocolate. Hubby is now cleaning windows ;) I'm trying to get him into the habit of 'what he will need to do when he retires' :-*
-
Doesn't look like I'll be cycling this afto. DH & DD went out on the horses and DH has just phoned to say they will be late because he got thrown off! He's cut his hand open and aches all over and is still several miles from home.
Lunch was just about ready when he rang. I will now get the dettol, cotton wool and massage gear ready! He must be in agony because he's been full of aches & pains for a few days and if the horses weren't so desperate for some exercise, he wouldn't have considered riding today. I feel really sorry for him and sorry for the lunch which will be past its best when we get to eat it. :(
-
Horses be dangerous critters ::) :P - as for Dettol :sick02: how is he this evening, hospital job?
We will be cycling eventually but I need to build up my stamina first. Also I miss out on seeing the countryside 'cos I'm concentrating hard on keeping upright :D
-
Thanks for asking CLKD. He's tender but OK. Few grazes and a cut hand but he's had a hot shower and a massage and maybe some bruising will come out tomorrow. He and DD always wear body protectors thanks goodness.
I was just reading about your walk - Very good :) I did get out and managed 2.75 miles in 40 mins today. I use DHs sat nav walking thingy which he uses for endurance riding. It's very accurate.
I want to buy a pair of those "Barefoot" trainers - have you seen them? I wear walking boots at the mo and walking sandals in summer but fancy some in-betweenies.
-
Have you tried arnica for bruises?
Fell down the stairs many years ago (long stairs - ended up upside down at the bottom.) Took an arnica tablet and then had a soak in a bath with arnica bath stuff in it that night. No bruises at all the next day - wow!
Bixby x
-
Bixby - thanks, yes we always have a jar of arnica gel and swear by it.
-
I have a pair of Brashers which must be over 10 years old and they are 'just' worn in ..... haven't heard of barefoots - yet
-
CLKD - that's the good thing about t'internet .... getting to hear about things! ;)
I hadn't heard of Brashers, so I'll google.
If you google Terra Plana Barefoot you'll see what I'm talking about. I saw them on the Joanna Hall website and could order them off there but I really want to try some on first! I hate sending things back if they're not a good fit.
I think my walking boots are 15 years old and they're Hoggs. They are SO comfy and the leather and soles are still fine. A few months ago I thought they'd walked their last mile because the inside of the heel lining was all worn away and not comfy. I took them to a shoe mender and he said "no prob" and sewed in a whole new suede liner at the back and I was thrilled.
-
I've tramped 5 mins on the tread-mill, dusting it as I walked. It has an incline which makes it as hard work as I want. Need to find the book to remind myself of how all the gadgets work! Phew ::)
-
I've just ordered some Hi-Tec V-Lite Scirocco Ladies Walking sandels from Trekware, they look very comfortable and very stylish, I do a lot of walking, a lot of it up hill and always on the lookout for comfortable walking sandals for summer.

I'm the proud owner of a pair of Asics trainers now. I had gait analysis (are you all impressed ;D ;D) and they feel really comfy.
I have started running hence the need for suitable footwear.
-
Running is bad for us! Impact fractures and all that ::) - brisk walking is better overall. I'm going on the treadmill before breakfast!
I did 5 mins, with incline. After breakfast I cleaned out the chickens' run then washed my Toyota. Phew! 5/10?
-
5 mins CLKD? How far is that then ;D ;D ;D

That's not the current thinking CLKD. I've been reading up on it. I already do plenty of very brisk walking which I love and I cycle 5-15 miles several times a week. However, I've got to a point with walking that I actually feel I "want" to run. I'm listening to my body! ;) I spoke to GP and he had no objections. I've got the trainers and a good sports bra and some great music to listen to and I've been out several times now. Don't imagine we're talking MILES ;D ;D I'm taking it very slowly and cautiously. :)
I walked the Race for Life last year and there were women loads older than me who were running it and I fancied a go.
Actually it is said that if you have a sedentary lifestyle you will do more damage to your legs than if you attempt running.
-
.19km I think ........... :) far enough for this week. Yesterday I forked over the garden, quite hard work so I worked up a sweat ........
-
Lidl have today got the cycling bargains in - so if you need anything head there quick!
I got some new cycling capris and they are superb - £5.99 they are beathable, non-sweat, beautifully made and the last pair I had from there must be 7 or 8 years old and are still like new. They have been washed literally hundreds of times. :) They've also got gloves, helmets, bike hoists, shorts, waterproof cycling jackets, vests, socks, bike lights etc.
-
Hi Bramble, just found the forum. I used to do a lot of cycling and am keen to start again. May have problems with aching knee joints! I would welcome the programme you mention if you would like to pass it on. Good luck with the continued weight loss, that's what i'm hoping for as well as enjoying being outside. :)

-
Hi everyone
My partner and I have bought some bikes with the intention of trying to get fit, but reading about the weight loss has really inspired me. Roll on the better weather so we can get started!
-
We saw people cycling up and down in the Lakes, places where I was struggling to walk ::) - why? They staggered into the pubs all hot and sweaty ??? - and were going to do it again the next day!
-
Because it's FUN CLKD ;) Sense of achievement etc etc. :) Whizzing back down those hills is great too.
I went out early yesterday morning (6.30ish) and it was fabulous. I did about 15 miles and didn't meet one car. When I was nearly home a young lad about 15 rode past me and then did some showing-off by doing no-handers. ::) I was sorely tempted to chase after him & do the same to him. Then I remembered I'm a ladeeee!! ;D
-
;D I enjoy cycling on flat land where I can actually see the scenery, rather than having to watch where I'm putting my wheels ....... I bet they cycle up to the top of Helvellyn these days ::)
-
Bump ;) that's what I did when I fell off :-\ ::)
-
Ought to get onto our bikes this week as we are on holiday from work :-*
-
Cycling stuff and bike gear is on special at Lidl this coming week. See Lidl site.
-
Revised for anyone looking for a new year idea ;)
-
oh yes....cycling is my fav past time...I lost 2 stone cycling and cutting out bread and potatoes last year :-) if only it would stop bloody raining :sigh:
-
Before Xmas I resolved to start cycling again on 1st January. I've been ill for nearly 2 weeks and feel awful so it will have to wait a few days yet I'm afraid. :'(
-
I hope you feel better soon Penny. It is better to wait until you are fully recovered. You will soon be out there again I am sure.

-
Never cycle whilst feeling poorly! Then get back gradually, I lack stamina in most things ::) so little steps!
-
Not today it's snowing ::)
-
Got into cycling through hubby, but find it hard to keep up with the group of friends that have been doing it for years. They all seem to like to race instead of ramble.
Also, haven't yet invested in biking shorts which would definitely help the ol' posterior. :o
-
Padded shorts? good firm seat ...........
-
I hate cycling in groups...rather go on my own then free to go where I like as fast or slow as I like.
BLOODY SNOW ! Was doing well, got 87 miles in so far this year :-)
-
87 miles :o ............. :medal: had you said kilometres it wouldn't have meant anything to me ;D
-

LOL! Me either.....
-
lol I work on old money too x
-
I have an old bike which I use locally as can't manage very far, so am not in you ladies' league! But I so enjoy being on a bike, even if it's just a 10 minute slow cycle to the shops. Such a great feeling and so much nicer than walking. As long as it's not windy - have you noticed that the wind always seems to blow right into your face, no matter which way you are cycling?! ::)
When I was young and healthy I cycled to work and back in London, through central London etc with no helmet. I'd be far too scared to do that now, even if I could. I do wish the roads were more cycle friendly like in some other european countries. Any major road is scary, mostly due to the trucks which just don't see cyclists.
-
Himself is out on his cycle - and it's raining :-X :P tank is on heating up in case he needs a warm shower ;) I went on my bike 2 weeks ago but I don't really enjoy it - yet. Can't look at the scenery and keep an eye on the path infront :D
-
sunny day, a last chance to get out looms :-)
i have set a goal to do 10 mile time trials next spring....got my tt bike already and have it on indoor trainer ready for winter training...positive thoughts....lol
-
Because of all the rain this summer I have missed out on loads of cycling. Did a few 10 milers and hubby and I did 21 miles one day (with a pub lunch half way round :)).
I wanted to go today but nobody would come with me so I did some jobs in hte garden instead.
I am considering getting one of those static things to put in the garage and cycle over the winter months. Anybody got one? I have never been on a comfy exercise bike yet so I thought this way I could use my own. ;)
-
Had one, became a loading ground for clothing waiting to be hung in the wardrobe! Ask on Freecycle/gle. They are often advertised there. Or go to a 2nd-hand shop or Charity shop, see loads in there!!!! we got our treadmill from the company who makes them, they buy them back, refurb them and sell them 2nd hand ...... it's got sutff all over it ::)

I don't mean an exercise bike - I mean a static frame which I can put my own bike onto. i had an exercise bike years ago but mine became a clothes horse too. Like I said, they are SO uncomfortable compared to a proper bike.
-
Ahhhh - savvy! How about one of those that the professionals use, it's a line of rollers which they warm up/down on ...........
Himself has repaired my brake lever today which is a start but the weather is dull and drizzly ..........

Yes, I just upgraded my old one for one with a digital display showing how far you went round the garage...much less boring and you can compare your progress...
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_890895_langId_-1_categoryId_229901
this is it,but I only paid £218 for mine...
the single roller at the back is much quieter than my old one that had 2 rollers that clamped the wheel rm between them...
I got so bored staring at a wall... if your going to do it,get a training book with routines to follow, ie, 5mins steady,1 min sprint, 2 mins easy, 1 min sprint. etc...it really helps to pass the time:-)
-
Until we had a new carpet I had my exercise bike in front of the TV ::)
-
DONT BUY THE 2 SETS OF ROLLERS TYPE !!
unless you are a real professional.... spend more time falling off and damaging self and bike...
-
You should like you've experience ::) ..........

Thanks for that - had no idea they were so expensive. I'll scout around. :)
Went out on my bike - only 8 miles but it was better than nothing.
-
8 miles is good...
I regularly only do 10 miles as in training for time trials in spring.
its a race against yourself. Do a route , time it then next time try beat it....makes cycling fun and work harder...:-) i just did 3 miles on trainer...NEED COFFEE....
-
No cycling today, we have colds ::)
-
I bought several types of alert bracelets for DH as he cycles a lot when he hasn't a cold or muscle spasms. I had them from the company that sells SOS bracelets etc., one goes on his shoes, one he can wear as a bracelet, the other is on his helmet: blood group, address etc..
-
any mudguard advice ladies? I have so called full mudguards fitted front and back but since I changed my tyres to the more puncture resistant, slightly thinner, slicker tyres, my clothes are getting spattered on the front of my legs.
I just pootle around locally. Beats walking or taking the bus.
I also need ( to protect my 'bits') some cycle shorts - baggy preferred - that don't look like I'm wearing a nappy. I have a lovely saddle, but still need some extra padding. This is for up to 2 hours on the bike not an all dayer. Any suggestions? I bought one pair on Wiggle but fear they are for younger sheep. cheers.
-
Do the tyres now 'hang' outside the 'guards?
As for padded pants, there are lots on the market! DH has several types, he buys those which separate from the outer shorts so that the inners can be washed after each use, the shorts then last for several rides. All types wash and dry really quickly. Some shorts are long, to the knee, others are short and some can have lower leggings which are removable.
-
I also need ( to protect my 'bits') I have a lovely saddle, but still need some extra padding.
There is a saddle called a Spongy Wonder which is a divided saddle that protects your bits and might save you having to wear shorts at all. You will find it on the internet.
I bought one - it does have to be imported - it is adjustable and quite comfortable. I no longer ride a bike - pity i sold my saddle on Ebay before xmas but you may find one on there.( just looked and there is a Hobson Easyseat which looks similar to the Spongy wonder)
-
Hattie - does the saddle have a gap in the middle then?
No cycling for us today, it's intermittent thunderous showers!
-
Hattie - does the saddle have a gap in the middle then?
Yes - if you look it up it is like two pads with a gap in the middle. it is adjustable sideways and forwards and up down on the seatpost.
Takes just a little bit of getting used to but it means that for both men and women your 'down below' area is clear of pressure from a saddle. Good if you already have a problem or if you want to avoid getting a nerve problem 'down below'.
-
:thankyou: wonder why the professionals don't use them or am I too busy looking at the Lycra ;)
-
:thankyou: wonder why the professionals don't use them
guess they know how to look after themselves.
It would help if the professionals raised awareness though as cycling can be a cause of Pudendal Neuralgia or entrapment because of repeated pressure on the perineum and surrounding nerves.
-
hi ladies, thanks, I do have a saddle with a gap. It's an Italian one that I got for my birthday and very comfy.
No, the tyres are thinner...I'm actually wondering if the splashes are from the chainset, not the tyres! But can't look down when I'm going downhill in the park :o I have to go uphill too (!) so not keen to retro fit a chain set cover as adds yet more weight. I've already taken off the back rack. Think I just miss the days when I went a bit faster than I do now!
What's odd is when I ride my husband's bike - he has the same make of hybrid as I do, just the men's version - I do go a bit faster. Maybe should have bought the mens' small rather than women's medium.
I'm a bit nervous to ride a proper road bike in London. You have to stop suddenly so often in the traffic or with some pedestrian with headphones in their ears that just steps off the pavement into the road.
-
We often see cyclists with head-phones too >:(
-
Wish I'd seen this discussion earlier, I love cycling. Miss living in London as it was my preferred mode of transport - (you always get a seat!) No metro newspapers being stuffed in your face or in my case rested on head by taller (and usually younger) members of society. Cycling into work was just a great way to start the day!
I live in Surrey now and cycle every where - only thing I would say that I found it slightly easier cycling in London as traffic was slower, finding now on roads here usually have a 40 mile an hour plus limit and cars whiz around. (No patience some drivers) A few near misses but such fun! ;D I am thinking of cycling up into London so getting cycle serviced for this. (and have located cycling shorts)
It has been hot(as we all know ::)) and I have been bothered by heat, but still cycle. Actually thinking about it, cycling up hills in Richmond park really toned up stomach, you can do crunches, etc. but you can't beat cycling up a steep hill, works every part. ( I had a stomach to be proud off back a few years ago...). ::)
Thanks for the saddle suggestions too!
I don't wear head phones as you need to hear traffic, be aware etc.(again as we all know!) always amazed when I see oversized head phones on cyclists, no helmet and general lack of awareness of surroundings. In London as I cycled past Chelsea in mornings I would sometimes see these very glamorous ladies cycling in high heels with expensive handbags over handle bars....(only jealous !)
Finally...
Thankfully listened to weather today, it has just bucketed it down complete with lightening/thunder.......sky still very dark and heavy! :'(
Nice to be able to join this discussion and hope you all enjoy your bike rides, should be ok for tomorrow....should you wish to venture out! :)
-
I went out for a ride for the first time in 3 years, due to health issues. I had energy, but my lady bits suffered, needing medical attention. My bike has good suspension, but I am reluctant to go for a ride again. :o Obviously padded cycle shorts would be a good investment, but I still feel the seat is still going to be a problem, so I am interested in the Spongy Wonder seats. I looked them up and they seem to be a good solution, but not cheap with shipping added. I'd be interested to know about other women's experiences of them, before investing. Thanks.
-
I went out yesterday down the Thames Path (they're ruining it with development - 1000s of high rise flats :'() and got nagging shoulder and neck burning pain. The handlebars on my hybrid bike aren't adjustable. If I lower the saddle, I get knee pain. I'm wondering about fitting bull bars. The new tyres are a harder ride and I had hand and arm vibration for hours after just an hour cycling!
The new baggy shorts with removable baboon bum (pink!) insert helped a bit. I paid a lot for them but think they'll be useful. Wish they were softer though as the poly rubs when worn on its own and it rustles! I'm going to check out the Spongy Wonder too. My b'day present saddle is a Selle Italia and it's helped a lot but nothing entirely works. Think I'll have to design a cut out ring protector as a baboon padding extra ;D
-
Find a very good cycling shop, there will be 100s popping up now with lots of advice. Our local one now has a coffee/bun shop. Go along to a cycling group and see what others are using. No one minds sharing knowledge! Have a look in the various cycling magazines too. Follow up adverts. That's where you will find where you local groups meet and the various cycle rides across the UK, there are LOTS :o every weekend ::)
Look at the various sites for those top cyclists, i.e. Sir Chris Hoye, Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome (Sky), send e-mails for advice.
Northants hosted the 1st All women cycling race in May, we saw them whizz by ::) so fast I couldn't see what they were seated on.
-
2 problems that stop me cycling as much as I'd like to (apart from muscle issues!)
first is the numbness and pain, and 'mock' UTIs - I do wish cycle forums and manufacturers would learn to say the words 'labia', 'clitoris', 'urethra' instead of 'sit bones' or 'forward sit bones/sensitive areas'.
We're not 10 years old ::)
I've been looking at this this morning http://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2014/aug/14/how-female-cyclists-can-combat-saddle-soreness?commentpage=2
Spongy Wonder and other similar designs are mentioned. SW website though is seemingly aimed at men who have genital problems. Are they really helpful for women? I feel like I have a UTI and have numbness even on or after short rides and I have a leather cut out fancy saddle.
2nd is possibly more intractable: I have bad burning pain in shoulders and neck. My handlebars aren't adjustable. I've adjusted the saddle but it's still a problem. It's a hybrid as well, not a road bike, so I'm more upright (theoretically less of a problem)
I love cycling and would love to get it sorted!
-
Those men in Lycra are cycling across Belgium, headed towards France ;)
-
The Round Britain Coast ride has finished. This weekend Tour of Britain begins. Chris Froome is out of le Veulta with a broken foot …...
-
Some of the best cycling shorts are from Lidl. Mine must be about 10 years old now and have been worn and washed hundreds of times. They are SO well made and breathable and very reasonable. My hubby bought his from an expensive cycling shop and they cost 4 times what mine did. they wore out ages ago and he doesn't ride as often as me. ;D
-
>wave< PennyFarthing!
Tour of Britain began from Anglesey today …… now watching the hi-lights.
-
Have a look-see at the route for the Tour of Britain - it may be near to you this week ending in London on Sunday!
-
Bought a cycling mag yesterday and apparently us ladies should NOT wear underwear under our cycling shorts because it makes the padding less effective. I never knew that but if you think about it extra seams and gussets would make a difference. You learn something every day!
-
My DH never wears anything under his cycling shorts except chamois cream ;)
-
Poor little chamoix :'( …… what's wrong with Sudafed?
Watching men in Lycra again …..
-
Told you ;D
-
This evening: 7.00 BBC4* : begins the Pearl Izumi town racing ….. full details on the app. web-site. We're off to see it in Wales next week :-) (if I get rid of this Germ!)
*ITV 4 I think
-
please say hello to wales for me :)
-
Next week if The Germ doesn't take over. The route is on the appropriate web-site. I'll be standing 'just there' ;D
-
Wiggo and the Manx man are off to Rio :bounce:
Tour de France begins in 2 weeks time ……… :P
-
Love the tour de France have seen a stage in France but I fall off a bicycle 😐
-
:D - we are considering buying an attachment to convert my cycle to an electric assist!
-
If your a sports fan like me it's the best time of the year, Wimbledon, euros, Grand Prix on Sunday and Tour de France starts on the weekend. This years tour starts in one of our favourite areas of France , we love the Normandy/Brittany area, with the Grand depart outside Mont Saint Michel it should be a beautiful backdrop. We have watched the tour lots of times but this year we have visitors and can't make it so it'll be long afternoons on the sofa with cycling and tennis, I think I might move the small tv into the lounge and watch both together
-
Yesterday we drove up Holme Moor to the vantage point - which is where the Tour de Depart Bgain in 2014. It really is *that* steep ;D
-
Cav in yellow jersey
:jiggy: :jiggy: :jiggy: :jiggy:
-
The Cav is back :ola:
-
YEP - did you see his little girl …….. she wanted the flowers :tulips:
Tomorrow looks like being another good day.
-
The camera work from the helicopter was good, David Miller needs to research his Chateaus etc. to give the viewer full benefit of each Departmont!
-
It is a shame. Don't agree with David Miller being present at all :-\
-
I have to admitt I sit and drool over mark Cavendish! I can dream 😁
-
Cavy has been speaking in the review programme a few moments ago. Yellow really suits him - he said that his little girl [Delilah] associates his success with getting flowers ;)
They showed the results of the various crashes OUCH! don't know how Geraint is, I had heard that he was involved in the spring accident last night. Those barriers really can bring bikes down as they have 'feet' sticking out :o
Sitting, waiting, ready for the off ……. David Miller can apologise all he likes, he knew what he was doing >:(.
-
Cavendish wins the stage 😊
-
It was *that* close ;D. I held my breath ::).
Exciting already :bounce: ……. we are doing as much work as possible each morning, having a light lunch then settling down to watch ;). I cycled every mile today, it was quite easy at the start as no-one seemed to want to race :D
I loved the work that has gone into some of the 'adverts' for the different regions as they cycle by ………
-
Crikey - yesterday's result was even closer than 'that' :o …… apparently 2 thousandth of a second or 'inch'?
Post arrived 5 mins. ago, a DVD of 'the view from the sky' arrived, Himself ordered it at 4.00 p.m. …… showing landmarks from the air across the 2013 Tour de France ……. little things etc.. ;D
-
GO CAV GO ! where the …. did he come from :o 8)
-
The final 'arch' collapsed as the riders were going under, fortunately it's a blow-up plastic thingy but even so, really heavy!
Another British winner on the first mountain stage: Steve Cummins : :bounce:
-
The scenery has been lovely today ……… hot++, 3 have dropped out today including Contador. But he's moving Teams apparently.
Cavy HATES this type of day ::)
-
Wow, what weather.
-
Yep - 35D until the last 12K-ish, followed by hail stones as large as buckets :o- Must have been a bit of a shock to the physical system to be that hot and then really cold.
I cycled every mile today ;D
-
Garant said he liked it. It reminded him of Wales ;D
-
He's so dry ………………
-
I am going out for the morning and have left puncture repair kit in prominent place in kitchen so my puncture had better be repaired by the time I get home!!! I have been waiting weeks for either son or OH to fix it. IF I attempt it I will make a real pigs ear of it.
-
I wouldn't know where to start: AA?
-
I'm just home and son has done it!! 👍🏼. NO excuses not to ride it now.
-
:bounce:
Oh I can find excuses ;D
-
Boring scenery but what a FINISH :bounce: except for Cavy who had a mechanical 3k out …….. :'( as he says, 'shit happens'.
-
It's a farce this afternoon. Bad accident with spectators and a motor bike with Richie Port then Chris Froome running up the hill in his cleats …… this was after riders were promised that there would be more Police in the crowds, however, the Police are too busy watching the Race rather than controlling crowds.
It could have been a knife or worse :'(
Result to be discussed with the Jury.
-
So sad about Chris Boardmans mum
-
Yes - we didn't see the review programme at 7.00 to C if he was commentating and read the sad News on the net.
-
He didn't but wrote lovely tribute to her which was read out at end
-
GO FROMMY GO :tulips2: barring a fall or worse the road to Paris should be his!!!
-
Well done Chris Froome and team sky, all 9 riders have made it to Paris :)
-
Will U B watching later? F1 on here until 2.00 when we will turn over, heart in mouth …….
-
Yes watched F1 now cycling, it's not as bad as 2 weeks ago F1 cycling and Wimbledon final. I'm really going to miss the cycling in the afternoon :'( I think I might have to do some cleaning now that I've had most oh July off ;D
-
;D - I'll be glad to get into the garden for longer each day ::). I have cycled every mile of this Tour :D ……. from my settee. A spectator almost had Peter Sagan off his cycle just then :o …….. stupid people :beat:
There was MotoGP that weekend too ……….
:bounce:
-
congratulations again to Chris Froome :)
-
History made again :gym:
-
Fantastic just caught up on what I missed well done Chris froome
-
I feel lost this morning ;D
Bet there are a few sore heads in Paris over-night :P
-
Cycle London tomorrow: anyone?
Ladies on this evening!
-
After watching the f1 (well done Lewis :)), I put the cycling on. Geraint made a fantastic break only to be caught in the last few miles, but Tom Boonen won so quite happy as we are fans of his too :) the coverage was spoiled by the loss of tv pictures towards the end which as a shame. Now the cyclists head to Rio for the Olympic Games, I feel the build up to this years Olympics has been very low key, not sure if it's because the time difference between the UK and Brazil means it'll be difficult for us to watch live.

I was in Wimbledon to watch the amateur race. My brother took part for at least the 3rd time. Watched him with my sister in law and little nephews.
-
Great. Until the coverage broke down, wonder if there was an 'incident' somewhere as a Police Range Rover, not part of the 'pack', dashed by on the final road ………… really sad about Geraint.
We have found a programme called 'bike' on an obscure channel which has quite good programmes. Late at night, kind of after 8.00 ……...
-
from Rio :bounce:
-
Ooooooh Geraint, after getting into a break and so close to the finish :'(
Ladies road race today :)
I tried to watch lots of the cycling yesterday to see what the scenery was like around Rio, fantastic coastline and spectacular views when they were in the mountains looking down at the city. It must be magical to see the city at dusk just as the lights are coming on.
-
Did you see the photos on the Mail {I think} web-site this morning, Geraint will need lots of Savlon - that is, after the physio has been there with a small scrubbing brush :o. So close, so far :'(
The scenery was lovely. Surf crashing on to the coves along the route. Will miss the Pro-women this afternoon due to being elsewhere >:( ::)
-
Awful crash in the ladies race yesterday, the camera bike was following the rider live at the time so everyone saw it, luckily the camera quickly moved away but the rider lay motionless after her fall. It took a while for Chris Boardman to calm down after seeing the crash, he said all along the course was dangerous. It seems the rider has broken bones which is not good but after the was she crashed it could have been a lot lot worse.
Nibali broke both collar bones in the men's race ouch, Geraint was lucky to get away with road rash.
-
It is what it is! All cyclists knew the dangers, some will have ridden the Course or at least seen it on 'google'-type video, some will have driven down in cars. Thank goodness the weather was fine!!!
They are tuff these cyclists ……….. I wince every time one grabs a water bottle ::) which apparently all had to be regulation at Rio so didn't fit in the holders on the cycles: another missed opportunity from the Coaches there then!
-
It is what it is. I have watched Pro-cycling racing for years ………. they take risks, sometimes it is OK. Had there been no accidents would the Course have been declared 'unsafe'? They did have the choice to ride or not. Had the top cyclists declared the Course unsafe prior to the Event then it would have been a different matter but most had either ridden the Course or their Managers had been down several times in the cars.
According to the media this morning the rider who fell yesterday sustained no injuries other than bruising. All competitors were aware of the road furniture, what the organisers might have done more of was have Marshalls waving flags at each 'untoward' obstacle but I have seen cyclists come a cropper even then.
The Olympics are different standards to any World Tour Series. We watched some of the top road racers [different discipline but still fast] a few weeks ago racing in appalling weather, none gave up or declared the Course unsafe, even the section over cobbles [which actually aren't cobbles but pavers]. A few fell off but there were no grumbles.
……….. and try not to 'WTF' me - thank you.
-
That's dreadful, hope she makes full recovery. My husband has cycled all his life, got the tshirt and the broken bones to prove it. Now it's become so popular he reckons lots of riders just think they can hop on a bike and cycle , they have no idea about road etiquette or worse, road safety !
Obviously this is in total contrast to the professionals , but sometimes I think guys, and gals ! Watch it on tele, think. " that looks easy" and buy a bike and next day out on the open road ! They wouldn't think of joining a club and getting advice and support, I reiterate that I'm not in any way talking about professionals such as the girl who was injured, but amateurs .
-
I love to watch the cycling, but have to say that in my opinion the downhill section looked very dangerous . The gullies where very extremely deep and the kerbs very high......I watched it live and a lot of the riders got very close to the gullies. I don't think having more Marshalls could have helped and when she crashed and didn't move, I feared the worst, it was a horrible crash and I think she was lucky to have got away with fractures in her spine and bruising. Just my opinion peeps, but that was a downhill section with disaster written all over it!
-
When I posted my response the World News said that she had no injuries. Certainly no mention of ICU or fractures. You could have explained that rather than the 'wtf' comment :-X
-
Crikey - I was on-line at 6.30, unusually early for me I know ; but I wanted to find out the results as I missed the cycling yesterday: obviously hard copy went to Press B4 any health up-dates about the accident were published.
Time Trial on Wednesday .
-
I'm back on my bike! :) The last time was 2 years ago when my neather regions became very very sore, probably due to the usual dryness and prolapse versus the seat. Localised oestrogen and hysterectomy have helped and my new spongy wonder seat, a gift from my son. I have to slowly get acclimatised to this new seat, so it's just up and down the road, harden up my behind and confidence, before going on any adventures.
-
Oh well done! Mine is in the shed, can't even remember the colour ::). Since Tour de France began in Yorkshire followed by Tour de Yorkshire cycling interest has increased, also the TV Companies seem to have taken on board that people like to watch :).
Time Trial 2-morrow ……….
-
le Veulta a Espania - yesterday there was a crash, a Spanish rider fell flat onto his face and has broken 3 teeth, which hurt when eating or if the face gets warm or if a draught goes across :o :o :o - but he is still out there, cycling across Spain :-X
-
I heard the commentator today saying what had happened, I will see it when we eventually watch the highlights programme. I follow some of the cyclists on Twitter and have seen photos from the dentists chair :o
-
:o - isn't that a bit like watching "Dr Who" :-\ - from behind the settee through parted fingers ;D
Every bump will send pain through that root :-X
-
Anyone seen Richard Branson's photos following his cycle crash recently :o
The cyclist in le Veulta who cracked 3 teeth has been pulled from the Event
-
Tour of Britain starts next weekend !
-
Another reason why sport isn't good for us: cyclist in Dublin knocked off bike by a stag leaping over the riders :o
-
Watching Tour of Australia this afternoon, it's 39DC there .......... cycling in that heat is insane :o
-
Yes I watched it too, poor rider made a break and was on his own most if the race ???
I must say I was looking out for kangaroos every time they passed a shady tree ;D
-
..... as well as snakes crawling across in front of the peloton ;D
At the start the cyclists were handed a Joey in a blanket, didn't really suit Peter Sargan :D
Oh to see some :sunny: ........ but not *that* hot :o - it's on again tomorrow, not a lot got done here this afternoon ;D
-
Ummmm it's on every day until Sunday ;D between the cycling and the tennis I'm not planning on doing much housework.
-
I can find plenty to do other than housework ;D
-
No sound from Oz apart from the over-head helicopter >:(
-
I'm recording today's stage to watch later so I can fast forward through that part ::)
I'm really enjoying the race but I do like to see the scenery too, I've been quite surprised how few swimming pools there are considering how hot a climate is.
Every April we go to France to watch the Paris - Roubaix race, if we are lucky we can see the race in 4 places, then I'm dropped off at the hotel and husband and son go to the velodrome to see the finish. I watch the finish with a coffee and cake and foreign commentators ;D
-
Oh how lovely! I was commenting yesterday about how few outdoor pools were in sight from the helicopter, then 4 came into view ;D. Maybe there are too many slippery critters that could join you in the water :o
Sound came back on about an hour ago. I watch le Tour for the scenery ::)
-
Oh yes the Tour de France is the best for helicopter shots, in July I sit and watch all afternoon and watch the highlights in the evening ;D
If you do watch Paris - Roubaux look out for a welsh flag and it might be me ::)
-
;D .......... wow, you'll enjoy the finish today!!
-
Go Richie, GO! :-*
All those eucalyptus, the scenery is quite samey ::)
-
The cycling season has started now, after the tour down under its Dubai, Valencia and more from Australia :)
The European Spring classics won't be long now :) :) :)
-
Do you watch the Channel Bike! ?
We watched a DVD thingy on a mix of le Tour 2008/09/10 showing the Chateux over-spoken by Phil Legget
-
Do you watch the Channel Bike! ?
We watched a DVD thingy on a mix of le Tour 2008/09/10 showing the Chateux over-spoken by Phil Legget
To be honest I forget about the bike channel ::) I usually watch on Eurosport. I searched Eurosport listings for the tour down under only to find it was on the bike channel, I really need to look at what they are showing because their coverage was just as good.
-
Spring classics start tomorrow :) for me this is the real start of the cycling season and the build up to the grand tours.
:cancan:
Tour of Abu Dhabi is on at the moment, it's like cycling around the biggest beach in the world, at least Cav won yesterday ;D
-
..... but again there was controversy ::)
Route of the ladies Pro-tour has been announced :) and we are waiting to see if Aber. will host a stage of the City Pro-mens racing as they did last year. Each time they cycled round I was out of TV shot >:( ::) not even my brolley was on show :D
-
Two excellent days of cycling on tv, what a huge pile up on Saturday. What a shame Tom Boonen had to withdraw from Sunday's race he's one of our favourites but nice to see Luke Rowe doing well and getting third.
When we go and see Paris - Roubaux the tv coverage always cut to adverts as the riders are approaching us even though we see it in numerous places along the route ;D
-
Caught up on Bike with Tour of Oman this afternoon. Bleak scenery. Lovely deep blue sea colour. No mention of how hot it was ...... have put on our calendar F1, MotoGP, Tour de France starts/finish so that we don't go away ..... that's hardly ever then ;D. Himself says we can use 'catch up' but it ain't the same as watching it Live!
-
The first few days of January I fill in my calendar with all the f1 dates and family birthdays, in that order ::)
It's going to be odd this season with Bernie Ecclestone gone, he was a ****ly character but I liked him, he was flipping good for his age too, must be the young wife ;D shame Jenson retired he was my favourite.
This summer I'm looking forward to f1, tennis, cycling and British lions tour :)
-
Pity that there isn't somewhere that we could meet up to watch it all :D - will you get much done ;D. Glad to see the back of Bernie but interesting to see how this new Company 'runs' the caboodle. Jenson was right to take a year out, though he was the answer to a clue in the Sat. Telegraph crossword >:( so that wasn't well Editored!!!!
-
I've always enjoyed going on holiday but the last few years I get so stressed its put me off going anywhere new :'( luckily we found a lovely apartment in France that we have visited a few times over the past couple of years, it's within walking distance of a lovely restaurant, bakers lots if bars and best of all it has U.K. TV , to lots of people tv on holidays is a no no but because I love my sport it's essential ;D
-
No stage for Aberystwyth this year in UK Tour series according to BBC Wales news web page, sorry CLKD, Look at the organisers website you might find somewhere else to watch this year instead.
-
I gave a BIG SIGH earlier when I read it >:(. At least I won't have to put up with poor fascilities on the camp site even though the view was stunning ::).
I think it may be because the Council phaffed about so much regarding monetary coverage, they do plan to invite a weekend of bike events which was run concurrently with the Pro-tour over the years, which was fun for the school kids .......
The botheration of SKY and Wiggos 'prescription bottle' runs and runs ........ let it go, move on: I consider that anyone who has to take ABs or pain relief in general is having enhanced performance medication because when I have urine infections I can't move from the loo until the ABs take effect!
-
I totally agree about the British cycling saga, it's a non story, cyclists are tested and tested, get over it.
I also hate the way that Mo Farrah is being targeted, if we get a successful sports person the press will dig and dig hoping to find something to blacken their image >:(
-
Yep. Sport is unlikely ever to be truly 'clean' :-\ ........ [sent you a PM ;-) ]
-
GO Cal GO :-*
-
Home from our annual trip to France to watch the Paris - Roubaix race. This was our 5th year to watch and our 5th dry day :) at the start if April watching an outside event who would think it possible.
We stood near a large building to watch part of the race, with our big welsh flag flying above us, apparently the commentator mentioned that you could tell it was windy by looking at our flag fluttering ;D . We saw the race at three different locations usually it's four but they were too fast for us and so to make it back to the velodrome we had to miss one stop.
As usual a lovely weekend in France, although the m25 was a nightmare, I pity anyone who has to use that motorway regularly.
-
Great weekend then! Any crashes whilst you were watching?
-
No didn't see any crashes :o but the dust was awful on the cobbled stage we saw, it was soooo nice to get in the shower when I got back to the hotel ;D
I recorded the whole race coverage, now we have six hours to watch
-
OH - we forgot to watch -........... where do you live again ;D
-
-
......... there's an Austrian pro-race this week but it had to be shortened today due to heavy, thick snow on the route: WHIMPS ;D : so no camera work, no helicopter shots - Ned and Rob have been working really hard to keep commentary going without any access to film etc.. Now showing some recorded footage from earlier even though they Race today has finished.
-
I saw the first stage yesterday, I didn't bother today when I heard Ned saying we are waiting for live pictures ::)
Last Sunday was a nightmare, I wanted to watch the Grand Prix and the Amstel a Gold cycling ;D
So far this season the f1 has been pretty boring, although I didn't see much of the race from China, I hope it improves when the get back to European tracks. But on a positive note Jenson is back for the Monaco GP, he's my favourite :)
-
Got bored with retirement then ? or was it the disqualification for 'racing' when he was in a recent triathlon? :D
Couldn't even see the scenery today ::)
-
Awful news today, the Italian rider Michele Scarponi (Astana) has been killed in an accident. He was in the tour of the Alps that ended yesterday, but while out riding this morning he was his by a van. All the cyclist that have been leaving messages have said he was a lovely smiley person, such an awful thing to happen :'(
-
I read that earlier :'( ........... one never knows does one >sigh<

Heard that on the news, my husband is a very keen cyclist and he was devastated when he heard .
-
Tour of Yorkshire begins tomorrow - noon on ITV-4 I think but I'll miss it as had booked a hair appt. >:(
-
Hair appt. earlier so home by 12.45 to watch the start from Yorkshire.
Sadly, as mentioned by Ned a few moments ago:
American cyclist Chad Young has a severe head injury following a crash at the Tour of the Gila, and his Axeon Hagens Berman team said late Thursday he is not expected to recover.
He also paid tribute to Scarponi .....
-
Nicky Hayden, US pro-motor bike racer, critical in hospital following a collision whilst on his cycle, training :'(
-
Also - whether the Manx Missile will be fit for le Tour :-\ with him and several team members suffering what is reported as 'glandular fever' :(
-
Tour de France won't be the same if Cav isn't there, even if he is he must have missed so much training.
Geraint Thomas was doing so well in the Giro until he was taken out in a stupid crash with a tv motorbike. The Giro was this years goal, and he was in second place so annoying, who knows how he would have done
:hotflash:
-
The bike was stationary at the time! I think an elbow was involved :-\ ....... at 35mph it only takes a minuscule to be out of a Grand Tour.
Nicky has been moved and is an induced coma :'(
-

:hotflash:
My son in law has Geraint Thomas's book, its really interesting . Such a shame about the incident yesterday and he was doing so well.
-
Geraint Thomas has decided not to carry on with the Giro :-\
His message said that as the week has gone on his injuries have not improved and along with the team they decided it's better to start thinking about the Tour de France instead.
Such a shame, he was doing so well >:(
-
No point pushing if the injuries aren't healing. Wonder whether he needs warm hands to apply healing lotions 8)
Nicky Hayden has serious head trauma .........
-
That poor man, I don't follow motorcycling but I read he was on a bike when he was knocked down, yet another cyclist :'(
-
Ironic that many sports people go through dangerous races but get injrued/killed at leisure :-\
-
Further on from ElizabethRose's earlier post, I bought Himself lots of cycling identification wraps from the Company that supply SOS bands/bracelets. They fix on one side of the helmet, on his shoes, can wear a bracelet around his ankle - all with personal details on - so that if knocked unconscious he can be identified ;). SOS are recognised World Wide.
-
Ironic that many sports people go through dangerous races but get injrued/killed at leisure :-\
Michael Schumacher springs to mind, I was not a fan of his when he was driving, but I feel for him and his family
-
....... Graham Hill, Colin McRae .
-
So sad to hear this.
RIP
Lanzalover
-
This is happening much too often something needs to change :'(
-
........ what I know about head injury it is probably better as the family and fans can now grieve. To have seen Nicky with contracted limbs due to brain contusion, not knowing anything, not being able to follow his sport and for his family to have to endure would have been dreadful :'( - apparently one of the pro-women cyclists Mum's was knocked off and injured recently ...... forgot to post the Link :(
-
It was Becky James mother who was knocked off her bike, the family posted photos of her bruised and swollen face for people to see :-\
-
:thankyou: - I forgot to go search :-\ [meno-brain]. the pictures looked awful, she was one lucky lady!
-
Manx GP coverage then Dauphine on every evening followed by Tour of Britain for the Pro-ladies ........ from 9.00 p.m.. Thank goodness we can lay in each morning ::) . Lovely sunshine in France ::)
-
At the moment I'm watching, French open tennis, British lions in New Zealand and the cycling ;D oh and spring watch.
My sky planner is bulging at the seams with my regular programmes that haven't got time to watch ::)
-
Add to that MotoGP from Barcelona - ah well, the dust can wait ;-)
-
Oh and GP from Canada ;D
-
Oh that had gone by, will be making a list of what to watch and when then :great:
-
Cavey fit for le Tour :bounce:
-
Oh that's good news :)
I can't believe how quickly the tour comes around. :o which means I'm busy for the next three weeks if you want anything ;D
-
Me too - don't knock the door, ring the phone or .......... after 11.00 a.m. every morning for the next 3 weeks ;D. I'll be watching le Tour on the big screen and MotoGP on the lap-top, won't know whether to wear my Polka dot jersey or my Cal Cruchlow cap :D oh and there's a small tennis tournament on as well ........... and then the B Grand Prix Circus will hit the UK and ........
-
.......two British lions v all blacks matches ;D
-
Go Geraint, GO!
-
I'm so happy for Geraint :) now he's won Olympic gold, commonwealth games and now yellow jersey ;D
-
Two out though, 1 with a broken knee cap the other with a fracture in the spinal column somewhere :-\ and it's POURING!
-
I've been in Brittany for a week and only got home this evening so I haven't seen today's stage, although I can sympathise because I fell over on Monday and twisted my knee so I've been hobbling around since then :o
We watched yesterday's stage with French commentary, I don't speak French so had no idea what was happening other than what we could see ;D we saw Valverde crash and then Geraint cross the line but we didn't know how many riders were left so it was a huge relief to see him win.
-
Cycling is cycling in most languages and I watch to enjoy the scenery ;D - cheaper than travelling and I don't have a Passport right now ::)
How was Britanny? Warm?
-
It's our 4th stay in the same apartment so I don't get too stressed about it and actually look forward to going. The weather this time was good start to the week then showery, it doesn't stop us visiting our favourite towns and markets.
What a shame you can't venture to France you'd love the vide grenier, the car boot/flea markets held on Sunday's usually, we always love them, you never know what you'll find :o
I don't know if you've ever been to the tour but it's a really good experience, different to other races because of the caravanne, the parade that goes in front of the race, the haribo float is the best because they throw packs of sweets ;D I've also been hit by a pack of washing liquid ::) it's fun to see just how many items we collect ::) did you go when it was in Yorkshire or london ?
-
Himself went in 2012 with a neighbour. I then went into melt down and ended up in the GP Surgery in complete desperation. He brought back chocolate, King of the Mountains 'tent' shirt ;D and several hats.
I went to France twice years++ ago. Too many foreigners ;-). We have been to Belgium as well as I had a trip to Lugano/Italian Lakes.
We were in Yorkshire 2 weeks prior to kick off in 2014. One town was fully garlanded with postcards which had been drawn by the local school children and laminated, either as bunting or to sell ......... Holmfirth, that was the one!
Feet up ........
-
I was watching, I'm not surprised that Saga has been disqualified he used his elbow to push Cav into the barrier >:(
I hope Cav can carry on and he's not badly injured.
Means the green jersey competition is more interesting now with no Sagan.
-
I don't think that Sagan was putting out elbows for balance which could have been a possibility, I do think that he certainly gave a shove though not necessarily "at" Cav., in the heat of the moment it could have been any other rider though he would know from experience that Cav would be in the vicinity. I believe that Mark has to undergo scans as he has aches and pains where he's had previous injuries? I think a fine would have been better rather than a disqualification, although at the time I was shouting "Sagan pushed Cavie, Sagan pushed Cavie' :-\ and I think that Mark had been knocked out though that hasn't been suggested - he certainly laid still like he was stunned.
It's spoilt it for me :'(
-
Cav is out of the tour :'(
-
However: that was the initial decision but when footage had been viewed yet again, disqualification was the final verdict. There is huge monies involved in this Event.
David Millar has said earlier that Peter didn't know who was coming up beside him, however, Peter Sagan has said on camera that he was aware that Cavendish was behind him >shrug< ........ sometimes these commentators say things because they don't agree with the verdict of the Jury. Their point about there being no cyclists on the Jury should may be taken into account but a Jury should be impartial.
Sunny there today :-). Today's news, tomorrow's fish papers ;-)
-
A pretty flat stage of the tour today, shouldn't be any major drama but it's a day for beautiful shots from the helicopter, it's a stage where I find myself totally absorbed :)
-
I'm finding it a bit same, thank goodness for the over-head helicoptor shots. Did U C the man on the high-wire cycling yesterday :o - on a yellow bike, he actually took one hand off the wheel and waved :o
-
Yes I did :o it was terrifying and brilliant at the same time ;D
-
 we've just seen a man in a boat fishing, complete with landing net, shark hanging below the tractor 'tub' ::), don't know how they think of it ;D
I managed 20 mins. deep sleep around 2.45 ........ it's getting into a real race now there's a sense of desperation!
-
Now that was a close finish :o
-
Crikey!
-
:'( Geraint :'(
-
:'( Richie :o :'(
What an afternoon ......... I've seen Moto2 lads making wild moves but at least with motorbikes there is a run off area into deep kitty litter except when Leon Haslam rolled, sustaining 2 cracked neck vertebrae 2 weeks ago: he raced last Sunday ::)
Hopefully Richie won't be badly injured, he was my Fav to win 2017 :-\
-
Geraint has done a spoof advert for the jersey he was wearing yesterday, try and find it just to see how ripped it is.
I like Richie as well, it's not been a good tour for the cyclist I like, Cav, Geraint, Richie, and that's just the first week :o
-
If the road hadn't been re surfaced they would have been criticised for a poor road surface, they can't win really. You could argue that Richie did ride off the side of the road and Geraint touched wheels so neither was a direct result of a slippery surface :-\
-
It was a shame it was riders I really like :-\
-
If 1 wants the roads re-surfaced then ask for the Tour to go through your village ;-). I reported a couple of nasty pot-holes having driven the route 3 days prior to the ladies Pro Teams going through, they were filled or marked as dangerous.
Speed is the cause of most crashes when the road slips or a bump appears. Remember G going down the hill having hit his head on the telegraph pole last year :o - how have you spent today? I would like to think of G and Richie in the same room comparing scars :D
-
You asked how I spent the day - I went out ;D
But I got home in time to see the tennis ::)
-
We went fishing ;D and I slept for 3-4 hours at a time, very restful
-
Oh sounds very relaxing :)
Do you eat the fish you catch or throw them back ? I do like a trout cooked on a bbq ;D
-
I don't like food on the BBQ - I moved out of the cave into the kitchen ;). Himself cooks them, either in the oven in foil or he smokes them.
Lovely to hear Cavie earlier he sounds positive enough. Good scenery.
-
Attrition continues :o
-
I confess I didn't watch today's stage live but I will see the highlights programme later, I watched Andy Murray in the tennis, now that was a terrible game ::)
Yesterday's stage didn't have any cycling excitement apart from Buhani hitting another cyclist :o why is he still in the race, but we went to that area on holiday so it was re-living some lovely memories from 13 years ago.
-
You'll enjoy watching, if you can stay awake long enough. LONG roads through forests. The odd tumble. Sunshine and Chatuaux ....... [sp]
-
I am going to write and complain to the TDF organisers,
Dear sirs
For three weeks in July I sit and watch hours of cycling while the dust collects around me and the ironing piles up, I only have a short time in the mornings before the coverage starts to shower, have lunch etc but today it started at 9.45, this race is taking over my life.
Yours faithfully
Mrs un showered, sitting in pj's
;D
-
 what's dust ;D ........ I had to set the alarm this morning ::) but managed to get breakfast done, ordered more meal worms, fed cats etc., made a cuppa B4 plumping down onto the sofa. But it's raining :sigh:
Also, it's noticeable that when the TDF is on, it's hot in our garden but I can't sit out to enjoy it :D - we are having to manage our fishing trips on Rest days, regardless of the weather 8)
Enjoy! I do wish that they would have different adverts for each week though!
-
The best day for scenery and the 'copters can't fly >:(
-
This mornings pictures from the finish showed beautiful blue sky they were up above the clouds ;D
-
Drizzle can't be nice to cycle through. Did you see the willy :o
-
Yes
-
They were there until a few feet from the end. I said about half an hour ago, he doesn't have it today. Opens up the Competition !
-
More controversy :o :bang: the French man didn't get penalised for taking a bottle :-\ .........
-
That's the point - they were penalised then after the films reviewed, their penalties were reversed because the 3rd miscreant is French :-X - that's how I understand it.
Fab scenery today :)
-
That's the point - they were penalised then after the films reviewed, their penalties were reversed because the 3rd miscreant is French :-X - that's how I understand it.
That's exactly what it looks like ::)
-
FROOMIE has had a burst of energy from somewhere :o
Did you watch last night's hi-lights Two Hoots ;)
-
Yes I always watch the highlights, I watch Eurosport all day and ITV highlights for a bit of variety ;D
-
:bounce:
Did they show The Willie again ;)
-
No it didn't make the highlights programme :o
Aru messed up that stage, well done Froome :)
-
;D -
The Race is opened up again :) .... can hardly wait for tomorrow ! and what lovely scenery and history! From where they started goes back to BC became a Roman settlement and the architecture is Medieval ......... if only I was brave enough to travel :sigh: but this way is cheaper and I don't need a Passport !
-
It's a real shame you can't travel that far, I really don't want to go away when the holiday gets close but once I'm there I enjoy it ::) It's not an area of France we have visited but Carcassonne is on our list of places to go and that wasn't too far away today. I have friends who went on a canal holiday in today's region and I think Rick Stein might have gone through when he did the canal/cookery show a few years ago.
-
Go whilst you can! If I were able to travel we'd have no money at all
-
It's like travelling through Northumberland today ::)
-
The brief glance of a bum running up the road broke the monotony .......... ;)
What a day :o
-
I watched the Grand Prix :) well done Lewis, so I didn't watch much of the cycling but I'll see the highlights later.
Wimbledon final, British Grand Prix and tdf all on the same day and tomorrow nothing :'( I might even leave the house tomorrow ;D
-
;D ....... I may leave the sofa :o ....... Watch This Space :D
You'll enjoy le Tour but may not see the bum ............
Well done Lewis ........... but it's hardly a race anymore :sigh:
-
It's a close season Vettel is just 1 point ahead of Lewis, but the racing has been dull this year generally :(
-
........... which is why we watched le Tour - don't get too many bums etc. on F1 these days ;)
-
I haven't spotted Didi the devil once this year, I know he had sponsorship in the past so the cameras avoided him so that might be the reason. Unfortunately I have seen quite a few mankinis tho :o
-
The Devil has been there a couple of times but whether it's the same guy? Several white 'chickens' flapping long wings around on a couple of the stages too ..... and the guy in the pink flamingo swimming ring, did U spot him? ;D
For a few years there has been a family whose daughters dance like Cheer Leaders or cycle on top of their VW Camper van - seen them 3 times so far this Tour, they were there a couple of times in the 1st week, 1 last and then had a break, probably travelling across France ::)
-
I saw the devil ;D and yesterday I saw two people in flamingo rubber rings :)
-
Yep - can't see the connection of pink flamingoes myself
R U Watching this afternoon :o
-
That Win was un-expected :o - it was a bit sit-on-the-edge of the sofa as they sped down that hill ........ PHEW ;D
-
I only watched until 2 o'clock but I recorded it when I went out because it looked like a great stage and I want to see more than just the highlights.
Unfortunately I won't see any more live tour this year :'( we are off to Devon for the weekend :-X
-
Have you seen the photo of Pawel Poljanki, try and find it if you can :o
-
;D .......... yep. I wouldn't get out of bed would you :D
But that is quite rare, if you look at the line up of the Sky riders ;-).
Could you not take your lap-top ;) - or find a Pub at 7.00 p.m. :whist:
Enjoy your break. We have set our 3 weeks for le Tour and tomorrow the girls kick off at 9.00 a.m. :o
-
I will definitely watch the highlights programme but I can't watch the live coverage ;)
-
Sunny over there. Scenery stark, like the moon - apparently ;D. Women did well, our Lizzie came 2nd, now the men are rolling out: start and finish the same but the men are taking a 100km detour 8)
-
Off to watch the end - 7.6km to go!
CRIKEY! there's also a photo on line of Froomie giving the Devil a hi-5 ;D
-
:bounce: ....... ......... :cheer: champagne in Paris tomorrow :)
-
Fourth time :)
-
I'm in tears: his baby is with him on the Podium with that Lion, Mum has the flowers ...... and baby has now put Chris' Sky black cap on backwards ;D
:'( ....... I must be Hormonal ........ let's hope that the rest of the Celebrations remain safe!
-
It seems months ago that Geraint won the time trial and the yellow jersey, as usual lots of drama this year no Geraint, Cav, Sagan or Porte amongst others in Paris, lots of lovely scenery some crazy fans including the man on a tightrope :o all in all a very enjoyable three weeks :)
Don't know what I'll do tomorrow :'(
-
Have you decided yet, how about housework :D
We're off to B&Q - we know how to Live ;D
-
Housework it is, I've turned a blind eye to it and I can't think of an excuse to put it off any longer, now if only I can remember where the Hoover is ;D
-
Re-acquaint yourself with the Hoover today, plug it in tomorrow, use it on Wednesday :whist:
-
I've done something terrible ........ I checked Eurosport and they have live cycling on this afternoon ;D
-
 we can't get Eurosport ......
-
There's been a weekend of cycling around London since Thursday evening, last 23 km into London for the men right now. At least the weather down South is fine so far.
-
Luke Rowe breaks tib and fib in stag night accident ::) - could take 9-12 months B4 he is back in competition >:(. Wouldn't you think that his Contract would exclude such 'fun', he jumped into shallow water.
-
Yes I read this, it was his brothers stag weekend :o at least he did it after the tdf.
Did you hear that Contador has retired, he really struggled in the tdf but I thought he may have waited until the vuelta before he ended his career.
-
I thought that he was going into le Vuelta? Off for a look-see.
Yep - unless he changes his mind:
Alberto Contador to retire from cycling after Vuelta a Espana
-
Ah I thought it was strange to retire before the vuelta ::) that's what happens when I'm reading and watching athletics, I miss the vital word after ;D
-
That's OK ........
-
Good at cycling. I am great at falling off, does that count?
-
Yep ;D
-
Luckily I have Eurosport so I will watch but I'm amazed ITV are only showing highlights when cycling is so popular.
Luke Rowe was interviewed for BBC Wales about his leg, he's broken it in 20 places :o no wonder they said he could be out of cycling for a year.
-
Crikey - didn't know that there's enough room in tib and fib for 20 fractures :o
One of those supposedly cycling in le Veulta had a positive drug's test :-\
-
Tour of Britain - What a FINISH!
-
We went to the antiques fair in Builth Wells yesterday so I only saw the end of the highlights programme, what happened to Cav why wasn't he in the sprint ?
Fantastic live coverage today 10 am until 4 pm, I think I know what I'm doing today ..... ;D
-
Cav is recovering from his nasty fall earlier this year so probably not at full fitness. Must turn on TV soon - my reward for stripping the kitchen units this morning ??? ;D
Oh an antique fair at Builth: did you buy?
-
Maybe we will see Cav later in the week :)
No we didn't spend 1p, we had a free entry ticket and it was even too drizzly to buy ice cream ::)
-
What a shame that we didn't switch on earlier ::). Cycling now going through Bamburgh! don't think much will get done this afternoon!
-
Oh nasty crash, the car should have been towed away or the marshals right out into the road slowing the riders down.
The insurance claim will be interesting ....... A peloton rode into my car, I can show you the tv highlights if you like :o
-
It's on now ....... well hi-lights.
Watched le Veutla first. A motor bike tipped over ::)
-
What with Tour and Vuelta the cycling is very much taking over. Still had to do the pool and a walk though and did manage it....just!!!!!
-
It's me that wants the pool ;D
-
I wish I really did have a pool in my garden. Not going to happen though
-
Nor in mine - unless we dig up most of the garden ::)
Those cars should certainly have been moved, the excuses given by the Organisers beggars belief :bang: - didn't see the Tour today but Himself was watching le Veulta hi-lights - good so far ;-)
-
Thought of going to see the Tour, but by the time I found out the timings, they had gone :( Anyway, it was raining.
-
I haven't the energy to drive over to our nearest viewing point this week and they whizz by so quickly :D
-
Wow first time in 39 years we have a double winner. Then they were a lot further apart so time to rest in between the Tour de France but now much closer but then the 🚴🏾 are so much more sophisticated today. I did like that Froome let is teammate go over the line before him yesterday and that he always acknowledges what the team do for him
-
Beautiful day in Bergen for the womens world championship road race, I hope it's the same for the men tomorrow :)
-
Am watching right now. Lizzie, despite having had her appendix removed 3 weeks ago, is cycling :o
-
 ...........
Nowt to do with Lycra then ...........
It's almost finished - who *will* win :o
-
Gutted. Can't watch this weekend as with the grandchildren. They are worth it though
-
It was a Brit - I think - that won. Lovely weather over there too ....... hopefully coverage will help their tourist trade ;-)
-
Another glorious day in Bergen, it drizzled when I was there 4 years ago ::)
I think the Dutch girl won yesterday ?
-
Was it .......... :-\ - Sagan, Sagan, Sagan ........ apparently they are expecting a baby :)
It was : Chantal Black of the Netherlands - shows that I was watching closely then :-\
-
Also we've lost the 'bike' channel :cuss: and I don't know about on TV - there will be 'sportifs' all around the UK, if you buy 'cycling news' I think, it's the weekly mag., you'll get info in there. Each county has various types of cycling events every weekend.
-
I think there may be a few events in Italy, I know I've watched a one day race around lake Como in the last few years, the weather was either glorious or so horrible you couldn't see the lovely scenery.
-
The Giro dell'Emilia will be on Eurosport at 12:45 Hope22. Nibali and Yates will be in it
-
Don't get Eurosport or Sky ....... so it's been NFL US from Wembley :-\
-
Season has begun - Tour Down Under from Willonga, Adelaide ...... GO RITCHI GO :D
-
TV coverage has been very poor, I recorded the first stage but when I went to watch it they were showing random clips of other sports and didn't get to the cycling until an hour late, of course this meant that I only had half the stage recorded :-\ I've been recording the programme immediately after since as insurance but we've only watched one stage so far.
I think at least one stage was shortened because of the heat.
Isn't it good that the season has started again ;D
-
Gutted that we missed the start of the cycling once more. Have to watch more closely for coverage
-
Didn't find any yesterday >:(.
Apparently the Hunt is on at Chris Froome .......... :-\
-
I hope all will be okay for him
-
Cycling as a sport was so heavily involved in drug use that they started rigorous testing in and out of competition and that has contributed to riders being caught, even with extremely small amounts of banned substances. I think anyone caught should be banned, but, other sports need to follow the example cycling has set.
When was the last time a footballer failed a drugs test. Do they even get tested ?
Wiggins and Frome had both been taking medicines and had exemptions but the press enjoy highlighting this and trying to make a negative story before all the facts are known. >:(
-
Two good news stories this week, first Cav won a stage of the tour of Dubai and second Luke Rowe is six months ahead of schedule recovering from his awful broken leg :)
Two events start this week, Froome is in one and Geraint Thomas is in the other for Sky, I'll be watching as much as I can, the season has really started now ;D
-
Tnx. :thankyou: I need to get the various Tours onto our calendar ;D. Has Froomy been 'cleared' as such ?
-
Saw Cav's win. He was so happy. TV on almost constantly what with catch up on the winter Olympics, Rugby this weekend and cycling and trying to fit a walk in too. What a dilemma but a nice one to have
-
Hi, can you tell me what channels the cycling will be on. I have had a look through and can't find it.
Many thanks :)
-
It is on Eurosport Shadyglade
-
:thankyou:
-
Sadly don't get Eurosport ........ nor do I have time to watch any more TV ;D
-
Cavendish concussed :o
-
Doesn't seem to bad though. He's tough.
-
Been pulled for safety though. No one is 'just' concussed, it has to be treated as a closed head injury and therefore monitored.
I believe Luke Rowe is OK though :)
-
Cav crashed in the neutral zone on stage one :o
The Spring classics start this weekend
-
Yep seems that the start vehicle suddenly slowed causing a concertina effect >:(
-
I feel so sorry for Cav he does seem to get in the wars nowadays often through no fault of his
-
Womens' Pro Tour dates announced - Rushden to Daventry on the 2nd day .......... :bounce:
-
Strangely I'm not fussed about the women's events ;D
-
Have you seen the photos if Cav :o he's got a broken rib as well as all the nasty looking cuts and bruises.
-
I looked between spread fingers :o.. I think his profession is telling him something: time for him to get a real job :D .........
The ladies events are local to us ;-). And Himself needs a break from the men in Lycra ...... :whist: MotoGP begins soon :-*
-
I THINK you are right CLKD. Cav just has too many things happen every time. Feel so sorry for him
-
Cav has taken part in Milan - San Remo today with a broken rib and guess what ....... another crash :'(
I think you might have a point Herdwick, time has a rest and a proper recovery.
-
Do you think that racing is telling Cav something ;D - if I were his Wife, I certainly would be :beat:
Perhaps he should join his pal Cal Cructhloe and take up MotoGP ;D
-
That young Belgian had a heart attack that took him to the ground, was probably dead by the time he hit soil. Doing what he enjoyed.
-
I feel so sorry for his family and friends :'(
-
It's those left behind that will be sad. Someone once told me that sport is good for us :-\ ::).
-
Le tour of Yorkshire starts today, it's on ITV 4 ;D I've got a good reason to sit and watch it all, my sons friend got a late call up to ride :) his name is Ed Laverack so I'll be watching out for him
:clapping:
-
What colour is he wearing ? Lovely day for them to start ....... we will be watching the Hi-lights.
I see that Victoria Pendleton has abandoned her Everest attempt ......... or is that her attempt on Everest :-\
-
He's riding for JLT and his number is 124, we've caught glimpses of him towards the back of the peloton but he's still in there ;D
Scott Davies used to ride in the local cycling club time trials but cycled for a different club but they all know each other :)
Amazing crowds watching ;D
-
Have you seen any of the Giro d'Italia - from Israel :-\ and Froomie fell in the out-ride ! :o but is now out on the Time Trial. 'scrubs up well' said the commentator, well yep - that's how they clean their grazes/wounds: with a scrubbing brush :o
-
I saw the photo of Froomes cuts and scrapes, apparently they sting when the riders shower :o and of course if they roll over in bed onto them :o
I'm not sure what sort of reception Froome will get with the asthma pump fiasco still up in the air, they don't half drag out these decisions :(
-
Yep. Scrubbing brush to get the gravel out which apparently, stops infection. Then an iced bath :o.
As for these drug issues, if other Teams really thought that cyclists were guilty but allowed to continue, they would pull their Teams. Any one suspect has to continue training in case they are found 'not guilty' and racing is part of that training. I believe that even taking Aspirin is enhancement and certainly ABs are. If one is ill enough to need ABs ???
Also, I looked at the local FaceBook page for our village - a 'photo of a cyclist who has sustained a fracture cheek bone and pelvis due to a 9" deep pothole into which his wheel turned ........ OUCH!
-
A colleague of my sister was out on his bike, he hit a pothole and landed face first :o he broke his front teeth and the bones holding them in, for a while he had no teeth but now he's got false teeth. The problem is because the bone was so broken there is nothing to put implants into so he might have to have the false teeth permanently :(
Now that the weather has improved my better half says he has to swerve around dogs on the cycling path and the odd squirrel that darts in front of him ???
-
Did the bloke sue the Council? It's time that photos of the afflicted are placed beside each pothole :bang: :bang: :bang: apparently it's costing Councils more to pay out compensation than it would to fill them in!
-
As far as I know he is in contact with a solicitor who is helping with a claim.
Really enjoying the tour le Yorkshire so until it ends I'm only watching the highlights show on the Giro, next week I'll start watching more Giro ::)
-
I'm in the garden with eye on the clock! Too much to see, so little time - bet the cyclists have been roasting across Yorkshire ;-)
-
I havent ridden my bike for about 18 months as I had a torn meniscus and I was in agony for months. My son serviced it for me yesterday and I did a short bike ride just to see if my knee was OK and it was so I plan to build up gradually again.
-
Please tell me you ride something more modern than your name suggests ;D
-
I can't remember the colour of *my* bike :-\
Another roasting day in Yorkshire ......... [get my drift :-\ ]
-
Ed finished in 27th place in the Tour of Yorkshire, I might need an autograph next time I see him ;D
-
Please tell me you ride something more modern than your name suggests ;D
Ha ha Yes I do. I have a Claude Butler hybrid bike and I love it. I have a wing mirror, panniers, 21 gears (I think) and a gel seat.
-
No one gets my drift then, too subtle ;)
Seen several cyclists out, but it is far TOO HOT! Wait until evening.
-
Anyone see the Very Near Miss - a Marshall for the Tour de Yorkshire managed to step out of the way of a support car which simply ran at him :o. Probably using the phone to keep in contact with his racing team - Himself and I have witnessed the same, particularly from drivers for the foreign teams. This was an almost fatal accident and the driver should be brought to order ...... but he will be well across the Channel by now :-\
-
Yorkshire [tour de] - roast(ing) [weather] = puddings ::)
-
Yorkshire [tour de] - roast(ing) [weather] = puddings ::)
Shame after you pudding in all that effort to think of it ;D
-
Apparently the man local to us who fell into a pot hole and sustained fractures, the photo has gone viral. A water bottle was put into the hole and disappeared up to it's neck!
-
A British leader of the Giro and it's not Froome :o
Simon Yates is looking so strong I hope he can carry on for the second half of the race, wouldn't it be brilliant if he won, I'm not sure if anybody tipped him as a potential winner :)
-
Young, hungry and fit. He has to be in with a good chance.
Come on Yatesie :ola:
-
Bet that 'they' are waking him every hour of the day and night for bloods and urine tests. The worst is yet to come though as well as a Time Trial. Town to town races have started in the UK - in Scotland today, Melrose rings a bell. The Girls set off soon too ......... it'll be le Tour next, not a lot getting done here ;D
-
Go FROOMIE GO!
:medal:
and the city tour series is well under way - Durham yesterday, Aberystwyth this weekend and the Pro Girls kick off soon.
-
Ive been in Dublin for the weekend so I haven't seen the last few stages of the Giro, but I know who won. The trouble is with the prospect of a ban, the wins might be taken away, they take much too long to sort these things out it makes it a bit flat for me if I'm honest :-\
It was announced this weekend that the first stage of the tour of Britain starts not too far from me, I've got my fingers crossed they come to my home town :)
-
Innocent until proven guilty.
I solute his courage. To enter the race and win despite what is going on was the right thing to do. He says he has done nothing wrong so if he really believes that all power to him. :medal:
-
I'm gutted for poor Thibault Pinot!
-
He was quite poorly I think ?
We get the Pro Ladies Tour here :cheer:
-
:parti:
Geraint Thomas
:clapping:
-
:ola:
The girls kick off next week 8)
-
Womens' OVO Energy Tour around Suffolk and the Midlands starts in the morning :bouncing:
-
What a week for the Girls! :-*. ..... some dreadful crashes too :'(
Parity is being gained for the Pro-girls courtesy of OVO Energy who are the main sponsors. Eisberg alochol free 'wine' is quite sweet but they have been sponsors too. Dani Webb came 3rd over-all!
le Tour soon ;)
-
Sons friend Ed has been in Canada with his team, unfortunately he was involved in a crash, omg his road rash is raw :-\ he had to abandon the race but luckily nothing broken.
The TDF comes around so quickly, or three weeks sitting on the sofa as it should be renamed ;D
-
I think that should be Dani Rowe :-\ ?
OUCH - do you know what the Team physio does for race rash ........ it involves a scrubbing brush :o :-X
I'll extend our sofa if you bring ice cream ;D
-
Deal, just as long as I get home in time to watch the days highlights programme ;D
-
We'll be watching from 11.00 a.m. ;)
I think that there is another cycling event in Yorkshire soon?
-
Great to see that there is a cycling thread on here :) I am a big cycling fan. Can't cycle much myself now (Fibromyalgia and hip pain), but hubby bought me an electric bike a few years ago. Enables me to go for short rides around the lanes. We are buying a house in Spain and looking forward to going out for rides in the winter too. Hubby is a very keen cyclist - road, mountain biking and gravel (which is one reason why we are buying a house in Spain!). I love to watch the big events on the tellybox - and excited that the Tour of Britain is starting in Carmarthenshire this year, so planning to either watch the start or one of the hills on the first day. The 'Yatesy-boys' and 'G' are my favourites!! ;D Ali x
-
OH! when's the Tour of Britain kick off ? 'G' will be shadowing Fromey hopefully 8)
-
Tour of Britain starts in 2 September and it close to where I live ;D
I support all the British cyclists and I like Stybar and Greipel, but Geraint is my favourite. We are not going over to France this year to watch it but I would highly recommend going if you get a chance it's a great atmosphere and I love trying to catch the gifts the caravanne throw out :) I duck when the Evian cars pass because they spray water, unless it's hot then I hope they stop near us ;D
-
Himself returned with a King of the Mountains 't' shirt .......... baggy++ ;D
Hats
400 'photos ;D
I like Peter Sagan ............ and Cav, of course ;)
-
Next chapter of Froome saga has started, The TDF organisers have decided not to let him ride. Sky are going to appeal but that's not until just a few days before the race starts, how can the team concentrate on the race when they don't know who will be racing.
If Froome starts what will the reception along the route be, he's had awful things done to him in the past >:( but if he starts and he eventually doesn't clear his name then what, it's stopped another team Sky rider having the opportunity of leading the team :-\
It's a mess if you ask me
-
No point appealing. Drags it on too long. G should be leader.
-
The case against Froome has been dropped, I'm relieved but think he is still going to have a dark cloud over him from fans and media.
:sigh:
-
Doubt it. Cycling World moves on - I couldn't find any articles yesterday that he had been dropped ......... other than the Governing Body of le Tour insisting that they have the option of not accepting a cyclist licence to race.
Need to do a Very Big Shop ........... fill the freezer with pizza, choc-ices etc. ;)
-
Buy lots of bread and make a replica of alpe d'huez in sandwiches to see you through the 3 weeks ;D
-
:clapping:
-
It's on. Bright :sunny:. Lots of salt flats :-\. People lining the streets, cheering. Scenery so far lovely. Feet up .......... men in Lycra, what's not to like ;D
-
:o what a farce at the finish ::) wonder how many will start at noon tomorrow!
-
Team time trial starts just after two. Will be interesting to see how it shakes things up. :scottie:
-
Team Sky went 2nd. Looks very very hot :o
-
Arrived home yesterday afternoon after a really lovely cruise to Norway, the ship showed live football and Wimbledon but no cycling ???
So far I have watched the cobbled sections from yesterday, because we go to watch Paris - Roubaix we wanted to see as much as we could live so within 2 minutes of getting the suitcases in we had the tv on ;D then we watched some if the weeks highlight programmes last night.
So many crashes yesterday it's a good thing today is a rest day so they can have a rest ::) . Poor Richie Porte he has no luck at the Tour, the peloton is shrinking rapidly and they haven't reached the mountains yet, we are keeping our fingers crossed for Geraint he's doing a great job so far but we have been wondering if he is actually the Sky number 1 rider and not Froome ? ????????
Also good to see Degenkolb win a stage after the awful training accident he was involved in.
-
Wasn't that just hellish yesterday. I wonder if any of the teams will complain as it was just sooo dangerous.
-
They didn't have to race ;-). It is part of the Grand Tour and if they want to compete in the others, i.e. Giro and le Tour, they have to do the cobbles. Most of them have at some time, done them previously and at least it wasn't raining. Attrition though from start to finish, I don't know if Richie was involved with a specator? :-\ ...........
G is No 2 unless it's obvious that he can be pushed forwards ;-). They are keeping their plans close 2 their chests. Early start in the morning!
Glad you enjoyed your cruise!
-
Feet up. Girls climbing the Alps out of Annecy. Sunshine. Fab scenery ........ men begin later ;D
-
Beautiful part of France, although I've not visited it's on the list of places to go along with Carcasonne and Sete.
Special day today I have sons masters graduation this afternoon so yet again it's the highlights programme for me :)
-
:congrats: hat? Camera? Beaming smile ..........
DH went to Annecy in the year Bradley Wiggins won. [long story short]. He thinks that I would enjoy the area :-\
-
No hat :) but big grin ;D
-
Proud Mummy :foryou:
You'll at least enjoy the scenery later ;-)
-
Another hot day in France with STUNNING views :-* with people climbing Mont Blanc in all-weather clothing ....... whereas in the Valley it's shorts and Ts ::)
-
No sign of the girls dancing on top of their camper van this year :-\ but have seen a young St Bernard dog on the side of the road twice now .......
-
I saw Didi the devil ;D
-
Is it the same man ? He doesn't age ;D
Did U C the finish :bouncing: :ola: :great:
and the scenery never fails to enchant ........ I am inclined to buy a chalet with a view ;-)
-
:parti:
What a day for me to see my first live stage this year ;D Did you hear me cheering ;D ;D ;D ;D
I think it's the same devil, but it was a fleeting look ::)
-
It's alpe d'huez day ;D
-
Yep. The long distance shots from the chooper shows how fast they really are riding :o
What are the round bins on the sides of the road, for recycling? 'G' in yellow
Do you think Froomy will win? I don't ........ good crowds on the sides of the road.
-
I haven't noticed the "bins" but I'm looking at the beautiful scenery, a perfect day for sitting on the sofa admiring the views :)
The local cycling club have said they are waiting on the last hairpin to welcome Geraint, so I'll be looking out for welsh flags.
It's interesting, who is sky's number one rider, they were in the same position a few years ago when it was Froome/Wiggins ???
Shame for Cav but he's not really been on top form this July.
-
:spin: :spin: :spin: :spin: :spin:
Go Geraint, go Geraint, go Geraint
-
I simply couldn't call that! thought Tom was going to get it.
I think Frommy is struggling ........ don't know why there has to be Team Orders etc., it's getting like F1 ::)
The Police haven't done a lot along the route either >:( despite van after van discharging them onto the Alpe ..........
:cheer:
-
Oh >yawn< such boring scenery but such a GOOD result :ola:
-
I "watched" today's stage while ironing :-\ it was perfect for that.
Watching yesterday's highlights programme I hadn't noticed how much abuse Froome got out on the road, they are not cycling fans >:(
-
He has often been booed on the climbs. Captive audience. However, the lack of police presence was obvious in it's lack of being there! Why were any of those people allowed the 'wrong' side of the barriers?!?
Ready for tomorrow?
-
:-\. what do you think of it so far ? Bradley is waffling really well ::)
-
I watch Eurosport live coverage then ITV highlights show ;D
It's a big loss that the race has lost so many big names especially sprinters, Sagan has won the green jersey already as long as he doesn't catch anything and gets to Paris ::)
-
What a long day .......... still no Police in evidence!!!!
PHEW! can sit on the patio in the shade now - noon start tomorrow ::) then Monday is a rest day.
-
That's good. I might get some jobs done on Monday then. 😋
-
I have plenty to be done here, when you've done ;D
We will go fishing ........... it's expected to be in the low 30s here :-\
-
Today's stage goes through an area of France I want to visit, I will be using it as a future holiday menu.
Starter - Millau
Main course - Carcassonne
Dessert - I'll wait until the stage is over to decide
All washed down with the local Languedoc wines ;D
-
Don't forget the cheese 🧀.
-
Don't forget the cheese 🧀.
I'm not a fan of French cheese, I hold my breath when I pass a cheese stall in the market :) and I'll confess to taking cheddar and Branson pickle to eat with my baguette ;D ;D ;D
-
Oh, shame on you. ;D
Must admit I cannot stand goats cheese. Yuck. I like mild to medium and the soft cheeses. My husband likes 'stinking bishop' (English). We put it in the garage fridge, when we buy it at Xmas,. Pong or what ::)
-
I have found a goats' cheese that doesn't taste or smell strongly. It's slightly runny so spreads on toast or biscuits. It even has the name of the goat printed on the label ;-)
Another Stage done!
-
Slept. Lots. Have to get my energy levels up ready for tomorrow ;D
-
Are you good in the mountains then CLKD. ;D
-
Nope. Hate heights ;D ........ even from the settee .........
Feet up!
-
How awful :'(
-
The French enjoy a good protest or strike, farmers, fishermen, air traffic control, rail workers to name a few regulars :-\
-
Scored an own-goal apparently. It was a 'police man' who sprayed into the wind: aren't men told not to pee against the wind !
Race is speeding away, through a bit of rain and it's really a battle now.
-
Big stage today, I hope the fans behave ::)
I'm crossing my fingers for Geraint
:great:
-
They did in general, Motor-cycle Police moving fans over and 'G' did :-* :ola:
-
:) another day closer to Paris :)
-
we are so keen we are watching the hi-lights ;D
-
I really want to see Geraint cross the finish line in Paris on Sunday wearing yellow B U T I don't want the race to finish, I'm going to miss it next week :-\
-
I was asking DH yesterday: what *will* we do next week :o - chores was mentioned :whist:
It's on again. Hot there. Hot here ........ we are really sleeping well :D
-
Seen one of the girls cycling on top of her camper van - where's she been all week ?
Hot there. Sagan struggling :'(
The Devil is there too. I think that someone has a template as there have been very well drawn cycles on the tarmac .........
-
A few years ago we drove up the climbs they are cycling up today, the drops over the side were very scary :o we went up a few days before the road was closed, if I remember it was closed 48 hours before the race. Apart from the drops over the side I remember the cheeky donkeys that went from campervan to campervan looking for food ;D
-
Roll on Monday :o .......... I've slept most of the afternoon. Can't stand the suspense ;D. Woke as they came into 5km to go. WHAT a finish but apparently there's now discussion about the Press Motorcycle giving a 'tow'.
Geraint has no light in his eyes. Very little reaction, the smile doesn't reach his cheeks ........ whether it's due to thinking deeply about the Tour ?? hopefully by Paris the smile will reach his whole face.
-
I don't think people can imagine how much of a toll the tour takes physically and mentally, in the three weeks some of the riders look like they've aged, their faces are haggard and they look so skinny or covered in bandages. How some riders can do more than one three week race a season amazes me ???
By now I can't say I'm surprised that the riders are a bit "off" especially the yellow jersey wearer because they have to attend the press conferences after an almost 6 hour ride.
I'm hoping that Geraint can hold on tomorrow, I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch, I wasn't sure Sagan was going to make the time limit today, I think he's hiding how injured he really is :o
-
Oh Peter did get through then ......... it would such a shame if he didn't.
Watching hi-lights to see what I missed this afternoon. They do it a) because they can and b) for money. Obsession? They certainly don't enjoy the scenery nor do they be aware of the supporting flags on the road sides. I think that they get a general 'lift' from the noise from the crowds though. Did U see the girl on the VW today? Wonder where her sister might be, probably in College somewhere ::)
Tour of Britain soon. :)
-
Yes I've seen the cycling girl on top of the very camper and I've seen Didi the devil a few times ;D
And I've seen a few mankinis
-
Oh the mankinis :o
-
This is how I'm feeling now
:bouncing:
I just want this TT to be over and Geraint still in yellow
-
I have acute indigestion - do U think it's stress :-\. It's the intermittent drizzle over there that will make/break the results.
At least the crowds on the road side seems less wild!
-
Feeling happier than 40 minutes ago but tomorrow when he crosses the line it'll be such a relief ;D
Pessimistic welsh person complex is off the scale :hotflash:
-
I bet I can top that pessimism ;D
To have his wife flown in is great too! Wonder if he gave her the flowers, usually he throws them to the crowd ;). Will we find out, if I could tweet ::)
Don't the various media crews do a Very Good Job! When I next see Ned Bolting I will tell him so although he doesn't do the womens' tour as it clashes with the Giro ::)
Of course - Spain next, le Veulta 8)
-
He made me cry when he couldn't talk in the interview, I think David Brailsford giving him a huge hug made him really emotional, he was ok when his wife hugged him ::)
His wife works on a welsh cycling programme called seicleo, (pronounced sigh cleo) ;D so she might have been there all the time but I noticed he didn't throw the flowers into the audience. He's got a really good collection of lions to add to the yeti he won when he led the young rider white jersey a few years ago.
The TVs coverage is brilliant, not just the race but the scenery, I didn't see Didi today maybe he's on his way to Paris ::)
-
Ned said during the commentary as she arrived, that she flew in this morning and that they drove her somewhere to hide ........ at least Peter Sagan made it to the end, I really want to go over and massage his wounds :-\ ..... but he probably has a Wife somewhere ::). Wonder why they don't have a tour through Slavinia?
Lovely to see Tom congratulating Team Sky .........
HHHHmmm - how do you know that he's got a collection of lions :P ;D ........... :whist:
-
Well that's it, the last day if sitting down enjoying the cycling and the wonderful scenery that makes the TDF so special.
Vuelta next but it's not the same :-\
-
It isn't the same .......... countryside isn't as lovely last year it was like watching how I imagine the Moon to be ::)
Ride London on at the same time! apparently due to le Tour weeks being altered due to the World Cup >:( :-X
Now watching triathlon from Canada and there's F1 out there too
I'm knackered ;D
-
PHEW! I won't believe it until the morning ;D
:medal: I would love to be in Wales :ola:
-
Perhaps now we won't get asked what flag is that so often when we off are watching cycling ;D
He's such a nice person we've spoken to him and had photos many times, we have decided to celebrate with a cheesecake and a glass of wine. Well done Geraint
:parti: :spin: :parti:
-
>hands over plate< ;D. wonder how many sore heads there are this morning ;D both in Paris and in various parts of Wales.
How R U spending today :-\
-
Today will be spent cleaning and ironing :-\
But I'll be watching the news to re live yesterday's triumph ;D
What do you have planned until 25th August when the Vuelta starts ?
-
Chores ;D
In early Sept. Tour of England passes not far from us - Go Cavy Go!
-
Do you mean tour of Britain ? If you do it starts a few miles from me
-
Yep that's the one, in September, OVO Energy again. Himself has worked out where we will be standing ;D Don't think that I can cope with the crowds in Leamington.
-
Have just checked out the stages and may watch the Bristol stage. Husband has family there and we were planning a couple of day's in Bath anyway.🚲
-
Exciting ain't it. There are so many cycling events across the UK that it's hard to keep up!!
-
Please don't refer to the tour of Britain as the tour of England, it may not be visiting Scotland this year but it starts in Wales.
Referring to Britain as England is patronising to Welsh and Scottish people, I'm very disappointed today :(
-
:'(
-
Don't worry CLKD. These sort of things can be a bit sensitive. Just look at what trouble Brexit has caused.
Shush, I didn't really say that word, honestly. ::) ;)
-
Welsh and Scots are known to be sensitive - having lived in both countries I am fully aware but it was a genuine mistake. I'm off ..........
-
Oh CLKD don't go please, I wanted to tell you it goes through my little town, there's a lot of prep going on to make the town welcoming . Plus the castle which is in the middle of our town has been illuminated yellow to celebrate Geraints success! I'd insert a pic but I dint know how !
I'm very welsh, I wasn't offended at all, I knew what your meant. Our mayor keeps referring to it as the World Cycling Tour! :-\
-
Exactly. We've all got meno brains anyway. :spin:
-
:'( I didn't mean to offend. I know that the Celts are proud of their heritage, not something I feel I have [another thread?]
I'm back ......... laid in the bath and decided to apologise for those I upset.
My sister on Anglesey sent a message to me last night that as far as the eye could see was lit in yellow - I wish I lived in Wales right now .......
-
It's so easy to offend without meaning to and all your posts CLKD show you are a very caring person.
Never mind making a mistake with one word, how about one letter...
I once told my son's teacher that I was too “busty†to help at a swimming gala. In truth, I was and remain both busy and busty!
-
I once went into a carpet shop to ask for an off cut of carpet, I somehow inserted an extra N in cut.
KILL ME NOW.
I have never ever been so embarrassed in all of my life 👊👊👊
-
:o. I have a large cupboard of brown paper bags ;)
:thankyou: for your support.
-
Just wondered if anyone here cycles themselves. I have just given my bike away to a neighbour as haven't used it for years. Too many cars on the road and not enough courage. :(
-
Weeelllll ............ having been raised to cycle everywhere: Dad had the car to go to work: Mums everywhere seemed to have a seat on the front and on the back for the kiddies ::). Either that or we walked.
When we lived in Wales we cycled for miles, at least every Sunday for years. We would have a good breakfast: not the best of ideas as I would faint after about 5 miles ::). It was in those days enjoyable due to the views.
I stopped when we moved to this area in the 1980s due to 36,000 vehicles per day going by our house and no way of getting to a safe area to cycle on. 20 miles away are paths suitable but it was such a phaff to load food, drink, cycles onto/into a vehicle ::). I can't even remember what colour my bike is, the one that is hidden in our shed.
DH did cycle regularly until 2 years ago. He went out once in 2017 and talks about starting again but a, b, c has stopped any time to go biking.
Now there are more Parks to use but again, we have to drive to them. It makes me weary thinking about loading up etc.. It's as easy in cooler weather to drive to the Parks to walk. I love to see kids on their cycles though. About 30 mins. ago a family biked by but the 3 year old fell off, oh the noise: problems solved, into the shop for a lolly ;D
-
Looks like Two Hoots has gone ???
-
That's a shame. Hey ho! :-X
-
I do miss her contribution but why go :-\
Anyway: Tour of Britain is headed from Wales into England soon :clapping: and I'm having a Welsh flag sent to me so that I can wave a 'G' as he flashes by ;-).
Watching le Veulta on catch up ........
-
Tour of Britain is going in fine sunshine. My flags are ready to put onto poles to wave in Leamington later in the week :)
-
Was there for the Bristol stage of the Tour of Britain. Saw the roll out and near the end at the 1 kilometre mark. Very exciting with all the razzmatazz that goes with it.
Viva la cycling. :ola:
-
I agree. We've had an interesting day in Leamington watching bits to camera being filmed, chatting to a company who are developing new racing helmet technology to make it lighter and safer .......... big screens around so that we were able to keep up to date with the break away ......... didn't see G or Froomey as I was too short and they whizzed by so FAST ;D
-
I did leave briefly and I've been lurking, I'm not feeling very sociable at the moment. In the last few weeks my better half has been in hospital for the first time in his life, I've had a chest infection, had speeding ticket and our credit card has been fraudulently used to book a £5000 holiday. Hopefully when things settle down I'll return.
Enjoyed tour of Britain, as usual can't really get interested in the Vuelta.
I may not be posting much but I'm I'm an occasional browser ;D
-
PHEW! glad to see you back :thankyou:
It is stressful when the OH gets poorly when they are generally in rude health! Is he on the mend?
How about you? A speeding ticket isn't the end of the World .......... do you have to attend a Course?
Has your card been stopped by the Bank?
We went to Leamington to watch the men whizz by ;D spoiled by my anxiety :-\ - I could see my hand banging on the boards on the tele that night :D
Engrowssed in le Vuelta - GO YATESY GO! ;-)
-
Thankfully my better half is back to normal :) but he got the speeding fine on his birthday >:( so he's got a driver awareness course in a couple of weeks time.
Luckily we found the credit card transaction quickly and it's with the fraud team at the moment, they have told us we will get the money refunded.
If you want to get a slightly longer view of the cyclists you have to either go on a hill or a sharp bend, but if you stand at the start or the finish you can sometimes see them near the team buses. Husband and son watched in two places but the peloton were travelling too fast for them to get to a third village ::)
-
What a year for British cyclists :clapping:
-
The Team buses were parked away from the main town. I felt too ill to search them out :-\
-
The route for next years Tour de France was unveiled today, it's starting in Brussels but then is almost all in southern France and lots of mountains.
Did you hear that Geraints trophy was stolen from the cycling show in Birmingham a few weeks ago, I haven't heard if it's been found >:(
-
Morning! We did hear about the Trophy being stolen .......... typical of the NEC I'm afraid. It happens during the antique shows too :-(((
DH looked at the route yesterday apparently. Missing out mid and Eastern France? [have I got the correct direction :-\ ] anyway, down the right hand side as looking at the map ;D
-
Mark has re-signed for Dimension Data 8)
-
I have read that Paul Sherwen the cycling commentator has died, he was only 62. He hadn't been commentating so much in the last few years I think he was doing the US version of the TDF, but he had a lovely soothing voice and was a pleasure to listen to.
-
:'( - no age at all. Younger than myself :o
The winners of our National Land Art Competition have been revealed. . Tour of Britain
-
They were. I wonder what took him ..........
-
They were. I wonder what took him ..........
It's being reported that it was heart failure.
-
:'( but I thought that exercise is good for us :-\. Wonder how much dieting contributes to heart problems in pro-sports people?
-
Lovely tribute on line from Ned Boulting and others on the net. I can hear his voice, gently, in the background as I think of le Tour :'(
-
Yes I read some very moving tributes :'(
-
Ned is planning another Tour - talking about his time in the box with David Millar ;)
-
Vuelta a Valencia in Spain in February. The race will be Chaves' return to the peloton after an eight-month absence due to Epstein Barr Virus. He last raced at the Giro d'Italia where he struggled through the second half of the race and barely made it to the finish.
That's what Cav had ?
-
Lots of tributes to Paul on various Twitter feeds. A Service is held today at 11.00 a.m. in Uganda. Apparently it was heart 'failure'. Went to bed and didn't wake up.
-
"SKY" pulling out after 2019 :-\. come on Red Bull ?
-
Pulling out of what?
The Tour or cycling ???
-
Okay, just read the news report.
They will continue but with a different sponsor and name.
Phew. Nearly had a heart attack.
-
Out of cycling. Who will step in? It's going to be on the News shortly.
Team Sky was launched in January 2010 and has since amassed 322 victories, including eight Grand Tour successes.
"Team Sky will continue to race under a different name if a new backer is secured to provide funding from the beginning of 2020," said a Team Sky statement.
The important word here is 'if' ......... it may well even out finances across the pro-cycling world.
-
What a shame, Sky put much more money into the team than other sponsors so it may be difficult to find someone else willing to fund the team to the same level. I should think the wages bill of team sky is huge :o
I've never understood why sky funded a team but don't show cycling on their TVs channels ???
-
Nothing stays the same. It's an opportunity not a disaster.
Viva la team,, whatever their new name will be. :)
-
Yep. However, there aren't many colours left to race in, Pink is used already ;)
-
Geraint won 8) in Wales and on BBC Sports Personality just now - we voted :ola: Now G, don't give the trophy to the people who run the shows, apparently he's had another presented to him today ::)
-
I voted for him ;D delighted he won, I'm not sure if he can quite believe that he actually won the Tour de France ::)
-
He still looks numb. I think he sees it as a job which might encourage people to get on their bikes, rather than being a celebratory? We voted :D
-
New cycling season is starting with the Tour Down Under, won't be long until the spring classics :)
-
:bouncing: we watched a programme about Geraint last week - in Welsh ;D except when he was interviewed.
-
:bouncing: we watched a programme about Geraint last week - in Welsh ;D except when he was interviewed.
I watched it but I think I might have understood slightly more ;D I'm not a welsh speaker but I can understand, his wife seems really nice, she commentates sometimes for S4C.
-
I would have understood years ago ::) ........ but it's a bit fast for me these days ;D
-
Lots last weekend about Victoria Pendleton and depression.
It's high time that all sports tackled retirement prior to the activity. Jorge Lorenzo stated on 9th Dec that he had suffered depression at the thought of not being a MotoGP racer. These sports people begin so early that they have nothing to fall back on. Their brains get used to a certain level of adrenaline and as this becomes less, their body goes into melt down. It's a dreadful feeling, I've had it 3 times and it scared me a lot. I had to walk away from the causation :-\.
Also they lack the support from a group of trainers etc. as well as access to medical assistance. They may no longer feel needed . The man in the street usually has a plan: school, exams., job/Uni., hobbies .......... whereas professionals are forced to be focussed which really isn't good for their over-all health.
Not all can go into broadcasting at the end of their chosen sport career.
-
An ex Wales and British lions rugby player has also been speaking of his struggles and panic attacks. The more people in the public eye that come forward to share their experiences the better, it's not something to be hidden, if they need help they should be able to ask for it without any hesitation.
-
Yep. Pity the sports World doesn't get together at Forums to discuss how they are feeling during/after which could then lead to centres being opened? For them to discuss with the public and make it OK to talk about feelings.
Victoria told the reader that she went and did something on the water in a warm country - mind completely blank :-\ - but of course, that raised her adrenaline levels, so of course, she felt better. Surfing I think ???. But that doesn't address the on-going problem of a drop of adrenaline ..........
-
Monday 10th June 2019 - Ladies Grand Dept - Suffolk: town to be announced
-
I can't get into Ladies Cycling. Don't know why :-\
-
I don't really follow the ladies road races either but I like to watch their track races.
Ben Swift had a nasty training ride crash in Tenerife , he's been in intensive care but is now back in a ward, I think he said his spleen was bleeding :-\ I know that Geraint a Thomas had to have his spleen removed after a crash :o
Not long now until the spring classics :)
-
Not enough muscle or thighs perhaps ? ;). I like going to the Departs for the buzz although never see anyone 'famous' as they all look like seals in their Lycra ;D
I did see about Ben ....... OUCH springs to mind, particularly the gravel rash :o :-X
-
Spring classics start today
-
Yippee. Another excuse not to do any housework ;D
Then MotoGP next week, F1 soon .......... must be Summer ;D
-
Paris-Nice starts Sunday.
Coverage on Eurosport 2.
-
Maybe it's good that we have don't have access to Eurosport ;D. We get little done with MotoGP on as it is
-
Live Cycling on Saturday, Sunday and every afternoon next week on Eurosport ;D
-
Cav withdrew from the competition he was in :'( and a spectator casually walked in front of a Team [Borahaunsgrove?] as they were in a trial ..... at over 35 mph he was caught on the side by the 2 last cyclists who, with heads down, couldn't see him :o. The 2 were thrown heavily but completed the time trial. Made of tuff stuff!
-
I'm not keen on time trials so I only watched a few minutes of the first team off. Italy in March, sunny and mild, no it was wet and windy, just like here ;D
Cyclists carry on racing with horrible injuries, I'd like to see a footballer do it ::)
-
;D - the bloke walking across the road didn't even seem aware :o
-
G withdrew from his event yesterday ........
As well as good photos of Cav and Cal cycling to get Cal's ankle fit for MotoGP
-
Rumours in Wales that Geraint abandoned to watch the rugby ;D
-
-
Team SKY have new backers.
Hooray :jiggy: :cheer:
-
The richest man in England ...... not us then :D
-
Well, and I thought it was you CLKD. ;D
-
I would be building a bungalow with heated swimming pool off the bedroom ;)
-
I would be building a bungalow with heated swimming pool off the bedroom ;)
A bit dodgy if you sleepwalk.
-
I don't though. I talk in my sleep ;D - though those men in Lycra could of course, relax in the pool at the end of training :whist:
-
What a relief the team has a new owner
:parti: :parti: :parti: :parti: :parti:
I've never wanted a swimming pool, although I do like swimming, if you do get one I'll come around for a swim and a chat with you and the cyclists ;D
-
Skinny dipping then ;D - I have the Plans drawn up in my head ;)

2020 Grand Depart announced for Cornwall! [OVO]
-
2020 Grand Depart announced for Cornwall! [OVO]
Which race, I thought for a second it was the Tour de France ;D
-
Do you know I can't remember :D ..........
Cornwall to host our Grand Depart in 2020
We are thrilled to announce that Cornwall will host the OVO Energy Tour of Britain for the first time ever in September 2020!
The Grand Depart of the 2020 race will see riders travel 170 kilometres through the Cornish countryside, starting at Penzance and ending in Bodmin. The stage's provisional route (subject to final approval) will also visit St Just, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Falmouth, Penryn, Truro, St Austell and the Eden Project.
However, although it shows men cycling in the 'photo, who knows ;D
-
First team confirmed for the 2019 race!
We are pleased to confirm Drops are the first competing team in the 2019 OVO Energy Women's Tour!
The British team made their debut at the race in 2016 and have competed in every edition since. They will be the only British team competing in this year's event.
Northamptonshire's Alice Barnes notably placed sixth overall in the 2017 edition, while Dutch rider Eva Buurman finished in the top 20 of all five stages en route to eighth overall last year.
The team's 2019 roster features Olympic champion Elinor Barker and European Championships medallist Manon Lloyd.
-
Chris Froome pushed off his cycle in a race. Grazed hip ...... out with the scrubbing brush then :o
-
I hadn't seen this, I hope it was an accident :o
-
Too many trying to cycle through a narrow space I believe. It's the scrubbing brush that I would dread :o
-
The women are having a hill stage at Burton Dassett [I think] .....
Also, James Cracknell and Beverley have split, due to his accident received in the US whilst he was cycling. A lorry mirror hit and knocked him off ........ and Life for them both altered :'(. Apparently often head injuries affect temperament ......... memory and impulsive behaviour :-\
-
Yes I remember his accident on the news, it was horrible :'(
We are off to France soon for our annual Paris-Roibaix weekend :) but having a week in Brittany first :) :)
-
Make sure that Passport has a long enough time on it in case :whist:
that's not good English, hopefully it makes a little sense :-\
What will you be wearing so that I can wave at the TV?
-
You won't see me but you might see a large welsh flag ;D
A couple of yeas ago the commentator said that you can tell which way the wind is blowing by looking at our flag ...... The fame ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
That was you then ;D ......... when DH went to le Tour in 2015 I never saw him though I was glued. He would text to tell me where he was standing but apparently, always on the wrong side of the camera >:( ;D
-
Four councillors will boycott the Tour de Yorkshire next month in protest at fracking firm Ineos taking over the sponsorship of Team Sky.
Doncaster Labour councillors Dave Shaw, Nikki McDonald, Tosh McDonald and Lani-Mae Ball said they will not be supporting the race as it comes through the town on 3 May.
Ineos has licences to frack in Yorkshire, Cheshire and the Midlands.
-
Have a Great Time!
-
Look out for me a week tomorrow ;D
-
We actually have the Tour de Yorkshire coming through our village this year - it's one way to get all the potholes repaired :)
-
Yep.
Peter Kennaugh taking a break from Pro-Cycling due to mental health issues :'(
-
How's the weather?
-
In Britanny at the moment and it's good. We have a long drive across northern France on Saturday to stay just outside Roubaux. We have been lucky that every year we have watched the race it's been dry, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next Sunday :)
-
We don't want any soggy bottoms :D
-
Not with all that Lycra we don't....😳😁
-
Now in Lille after a 5 hour drive across northern France, I wish the motorways in the uk were as quiet.
Look out for a welsh flag tomorrow ;D
-
Paris Roubaix tomorrow. Don't know how they do it!!
-
;D. don't know *why* they do it [that's a Welsh flag ;)]. - how's the weather been?
-
It's a glorious morning for "hell of the north" ;D
It might be a dusty rather than muddy race today :o
We are hoping to see the race in 4 or even 5 places, it depends on the speed, last year it was a fast race so didn't catch as many views as we would like ::)
-
So dusty for them today. The motorbike isn't helping either but I guess they are needed. Very cold here today. Wind is bitterly cold
-
I'm back in the hotel, I didn't go to the veladrome. I usually get back wanting a cold drink and a cool shower, today I want coffee and a warm bath, the wind was bitter ;D
-
It's a bit warmer than bitter here, you'll be glad to be home ;D
-
Britain's Mark Cavendish will race in the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire, which begins in Doncaster on Thursday, as he continues his return from illness.
Last month, Cavendish, 33, withdrew from Paris-Nice and then missed Milan-San Remo, two months after he had returned to cycling after being laid low by the Epstein Barr Virus.
-
It's the last races for team Sky this weekend, new team starts on 1st May :)
-
All those fans that bought the Sky kits ;D
We were at Mum's recently and a cyclist leaned his bike against the lamp post outside, I went to see if he had a puncture but he was taking a rest. We invited him to use the facilities and he topped up the drinks bottles from the cold tap. He had started in York :-\ and cycled through the night on his way to Peckham. He hadn't decided whether he would attempt it again ;D
-
There is a bike ride around here called the Carten (Cardiff to Tenby) it was due to be held tomorrow but because of the weather forecast it's been called off :-\. It's already very gusty so better safe than sorry
-
I saw that when scrolling down the news feeds earlier.
-
Wet so far :-\ ......... but they are plodding on ........ Ineos in black/red, what a dull choice >yawn< - why not a bright colour :-\ ??? .......
'G' doing well abroad, in 3rd today :)
-
Cav on ITV
Geraint on Eurosport
-
The cyclists were lucky coming through our village the roads were dry and yet we were watching them on TV to see progress and just a few miles away it was pouring down!
-
 we will have le Tour Yorkshire on TV and MotoGP on lap top from Friday onwards - a bit of juggling then.
Look at that water on the bottom of the chaterised climb :o - Kittel didn't start and one has abandoned 10 mins. ago.
What were you wearing YG? I missed you!
-
You won't believe it I recorded it and we had a look they missed the main part of village as first it was aerial shots then they went to the front runners and they were going over motorway bridge and when they panned back the peloton were heading towards bridge. Cameras missed all our villages wonderful decorations!!
-
Oh put them onto facebook?
That happened here when the women went through last year, the School kids got filmed but in the village - I said to DH "I don't think that the cameras were being trained through our village!" and when looking at the feed back, yep. Not one film and we are FAMOUS ....... >:( ::) :-X
31.5 to go ....... who is going to win?
-
Yellow cows now ::) .......
-
Welsh flag at the finish in Yorkshire but it's not me ::)
-
Break up at the most important moment >:( - I pity the camera men on motorbikes in this!
I fear carnage :o
Which there wasn't, other than the winner picking up a Yorkshire flag which could have taken his eye OUT! I always get a sense of come-down at the end ::). Cavy 8th :-*
-
Girls racing in wet conditions; scenery in Yorkshire still lovely. Showed a large river with huge weir earlier. Got to get used to the new team colours as Lizzie has moved ::). Men start at lunchtime, any chance that they will overtake the girls?
MotoGP on TV. Cricket could be on the 3rd screen if DH has his way ;D - no F1 this weekend?
Well that was done then! Looks chilly up North. With drizzle :-\
-
I would rather watch paint dry than cricket ;D when I was growing up my dad would have the cricket on and no amount of pleading would make him watch anything else, as soon as I could I bought a tv for my bedroom ::) even when we went to Bournemouth on holiday it was cricket on the car radio and he took a portable radio to the beach
:bang:
No GP this weekend but it's 25 years since Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger died during the same weekend :'( :'(
-
I often think of that awful weekend as I am dropping off to sleep. Ayrton was a fav. of mine. A few weeks after that weekend I went to our local tip and found a framed photograph, probably taken at Stow Ball - paid a fiver for it. It's around the house somewhere, I couldn't part with it. I knew as Ayrton spun round that he was dying as his head was rattling like he was fitting :-\. Bugga .......... and Ratty in the same weekend :(
Damon Hill stepped in the next season ........
Men are off. Get to see the Yorkshire scenery twice without leaving the house ;)
Cricket is OK. Gentle. Very English. Lazy. Can be exciting at times.
-
What colour scheme should Sky have changed to, black with pink doesn't do it for me :-\ - cleaver how the black blends into the pink though.
Yellow is out, obviously as are green, red and white. Dimension Data already in black. Though Cavy is in a white shirt so I can see where he is. There's red, orange, green and blue .......
Not much choice really but 'black' ?
Nice touch for Cavy to lead out in Huddersfield :-*
-
Cav had a look-see but didn't push forwards as he would have done years ago, probably pacing himself to avoid accidents and maintain stamina.
Not a bad finish.
That area of wilderness where the chopper scared the birds :( is Nosterfield Wildlife Site - old gravel pits made over to conservation but no loos so be warned: we have the camper of course ;-)
-
Same old, same old - wind, rain - jackets on/off. Have you seen the sea at Scarborough :o. Looks rough and cold and it's a head wind up the finish over the cobbles.
MotoGP - slightly over-cast, a few falls: Cal off and the bike went in about 100 directions but missed him. They had to re-pump the safety fence with hand pumps ::)
So you'll know where I am all day :D
-
It's a rugby/cycling afternoon for me. It was nice to see Cav on the front yesterday acknowledging the crowds in Harrogate :)
-
Shows how much I was watching yesterday ;D
MotoGP finished for today. Now off again in Yorkshire!
-
Watching the cyclists coming down into Whitby, a bit wet there but sunny here!!
-
I like Whitby I've been there a few times, it's a long drive from west Wales for fish and chips but worth it ;D
-
What a day :bounce:
-
We were going to catch up at 8pm on Eurosport but husband then realised the Newcastle vs Liverpool match was on so will catch up tomorrow now
-
I've switched on TV now after MotoGP racing finished. Looks drizzly still :-\
-
What a finish! Worth staying awake for. Can't get used to the new colours yet and occasionally 'sky' was mentioned in the heat of the moment ;D
What's to do in Leeds?
-
Been in antiques fair in Builth Wells so I will catch up on the highlights later
-
There's lots to do Leeds CKLD
-
Did U buy at Builth Two Hoots?
Must get the calendar out so that we can go watch some of the Stages over the next few months.
-
Of course, I found two owls to come home and join the gang ;D one is a glass paperweight and the other is similar to Black Forest carving but for £12 I don't think it is ::)
Bargain hunt were filming, the host was Charlie Ross and the experts Kate Bliss and Richard Madley, saw them a few times so I'll have to see if I'm in the background when it's broadcast.
It's a nice day out although it was chilly I still had an ice cream to walk back to the car park :)
-
;D. I always duck when the cameras point in my direction at Peterborough ::)
It may well be Black Forest as not everyone is aware. I saw a lovely St Bernard with child last week in a cabinet, lit from above: £525.00.
-
Giro starts today. :cheer: :hapij:
-
First of the major events of the year, I must admit I haven't looked at the route yet ::) but I will be watching closely because a local lad who is a friend of my son is cycling for Dimension Data, his name is Scott Davies, can you tell he's local to me ;D I was so impressed he was signed to the same team as Cav ;D
-
e-cars I think from Monoco on now
Have to switch to S4C for the cycling .........
-
e-cars I think from Monoco on now
Have to switch to S4C for the cycling .........
Can you get subtitles ;D
-
Id rather listen to it in Welsh than Rob Hatch who's the commentator on Eurosport, he sets my teeth on edge with his pronunciation :(
-
Id rather listen to it in Welsh than Rob Hatch who's the commentator on Eurosport, he sets my teeth on edge with his pronunciation :(
I know what you mean. Sean, bless him, is so boring. He did tell a joke once though.
Unfortunately I speak no Welsh, so it's Euro sport for me.
-
I can't remember much Welsh. They are managing the foreign names quite well though ;D
-
I can't remember much Welsh. They are managing the foreign names quite well though ;D
I have enough trouble with English. ::)
-
Every afternoon for three weeks you'll be fluent cariad ;D
-
Diolch yn fawr iawn
-
I used to know some words in Welsh after son spent most of his school years in Wales and I also used to help out with cooking and forest school! Can't remember much now but Diolch yn Fawr, Bore da, Pnawn da, Da iawn are some!!
-
Aren't they just ;D
Simon doing WELL :medal:
-
Can't seem to get enthusiastic at the moment. The filming was awful today due to the winds being to strong for the helicopter. Will probably stick to the highlights tomorrow.
-
No one films the Grand Tour better than those who own 'tour de France' ;). In the run-in the cameras were swapping all over the place !!!! and we still don't know who was involved in the crash at the sprint :(
-
Beautiful day in Italy for the Giro :o
-
Beautiful day here ......... for doing not very much :D
Will catch up at 7.00 p.m.
-
Crikey! This is Italy. In the ? Summer ? ......... they might as well be in the UK!
-
Some of the puddles were huge :o not the best day to be watching cycling let along taking part.
-
They neutralised most of the race and Tom has gone :'(
-
It was bad yesterday. Sad Tom has gone
-
Home too late to catch up with today. Bet Tom is stiff and requiring massage and cold compresses - I'm first in line then ;D
-
Sunshine ☀
-
Yes it's my sunshine, has been a lovely week here but very cloudy today ;D
It's a strange race, I don't know who I'm supporting ??? No Geraint, Cav or Froome, any suggestions for me to cheer for :)
Just remembered Simon Yates. ..... C'mon Si ;D
-
Nice to see Si pat Roderich who fell badly - as they came over the line it was a gentle tap to say 'been there, done that' .......
-
What a finish today. So many injuries.
Fingers crossed for the wounded.
-
What scenery today :o and all upwards :o :o
What's the music that is played in the adverts.? It's driving me MAD :cuss:
-
Spending the afternoon watching the cycling and eating chocolate. 🍫😋
-
In any particular order ? ;D
What's that on then, we've got super bikes from Donington.
-
Eurosport. 🚲
-
:na:
G has a birthday today .......... :P
-
I've lost interest in the Giro, it always happens :-\ I will watch it but I'm not hooked unlike the TDF where I'm living every kilometre ;D
It Monaco GP qualifying first then Giro on in the background. I love the Monaco weekend it's just stunning scenery and I'm lucky enough to have visited, although not when the GP was on :-\
Happy birthday G ;D
-
:foryou: G ;D
Giro isn't covered as well as TDF. But I cycle every inch but would want to stop and play in the snow ;D I wonder if altitude and chilly air would affect their abilities?
-
Has any1 noted the balloon at about 8 kl to go, that has it's own motorhome ;D I would love to see them pushing that back inside every evening
-
That balloon is there again with it's motorhome ;D
Yesterday they had to divert due to deep snow :o and the descent was awful.
Lovely scenery again today.
-
Lake Como looked lovely a few days ago but the rain yesterday :o
-
I've been venturing out on my bike and it's spongy wonder seat, after not going out on it for a long time. I thought it would be difficult to get used to sitting on 2 small pads instead of a seat, but it's not and it's not wrecking my ‘bits'! What is suffering is my knees. I'm only cycling about a mile most days in order to loosen them up. Downhill all the way home. Hopefully that will work, so that I can go on some adventures.
-
Ju Ju - do some quadriceps exercises to tighten up the thick muscles which support the knees ;-)
-
Given my bike to a neighbour. I'm barely safe on two feet, let alone a bike.
-
Mine is in our shed. Can't remember what colour it might be, probably cerise/pink with black saddle.
-
I have got really behind with the Giro highlights. Will try and catch up this afternoon. ::)
-
I'm the same, quite a few days to catch up but I do know local lad Scott finished his first grand tour :)
-
That is such good news! Scenery was stunning in the last few days.
All starts again next week ;D
-
10 JUNE 2019 -

Anyone watching the Dauphine.
Just catching up with the first stage. Should be exciting with some big names. Hope their weather is better than ours.
-
Didn't see yesterday's stage but I'll have it in this afternoon :)
-
Didn't see yesterday's stage but I'll have it in this afternoon :)
Look out for the rider with the yellow beard. Very fetching. ;D
-
;D wonder whether he still shaves his legs though ;D
Pity it's Highlights and not the whole day ........
Nuisance along the North Norfolk Coast road yesterday, there was obviously a sportif ........ cycles everywhere ::) and the roads are narrower than when I was growing up here :D ......... it's when they look round to see what is behind and wobble across the road :o
-
Chris Froome out! after crash.
-
I was just about to say that :D
Taken to hospital, apparently. :crutch:
-
He hit a wall and broke a leg. Ouch. :'(
-
:o. Tour de France not looking good then :'(
Apparently out ......... first report was pelvic injuries, now it's a broken leg.
-
It is a shame but it will open up the Tour, a little bit. There are lots of other exciting riders out there. 🚲
-
Yep. They ride for 'G' and not be torn between the two of them. Who will domestique I wonder?
-
Dutch rider Marriane Vos, a former world champion, had led Britain's Lizzie Deignan by nine seconds after her stage two victory on Tuesday [until a crash today].
The peloton crash also saw the former world champion's CCC-Liv team-mates Jeanne Korevaar and Valerie Demey unable to continue as the 145.1km stage was neutralised for about 25 minutes on its way from Henley-on-Thames and finishing at Blenheim Palace.
Ten riders were taken to hospital with "minor to moderate injuries", race organisers said.
-
Chris Froome out! after crash.
Ouchy. Ouchy. gutted that Froomy is out of the a Tour de France and they are worried about the tour after that too :(
-
If it's a fractured femur, probable pelvic injury and fractured ribs he won't be walking any time soon. Would love to see the X-rays ;-)
........ the Girls had A Day too :'(
No "there may be scenes that you find upsetting" warnings prior to either races today ::) but OH!
-
I was never confident watching Froome on a fast down hill stretch, he always looked slightly nervous. I hope he hasn't lost his nerve now after this awful crash, his injuries might heel but the test will be a mental one :-\

Where are you Two Hoots? Lost in the Welsh flooding?
Chris F is already talking about returning ::) - well he would, from the safety of his bed under a morphine haze ;)
MotoGP on this weekend as well ::)
-
Gardeners world in the nec, walked around from 9.30 - 5.30, didn't get home until gone 9 pm so I'm a bit behind ;D
Did see lots of flooded fields tho ;)
-
Oh that's a change. Buy anything, lots of new ideas to take home ?
-
Three lupins, the slugs will be happy ;D we had success this year with a Himalayan poppy, its a beautiful blue colour, so bought two more. We couldn't resist a rose, it's a beautiful colour but when I saw it was called special grandpa, it's what my son used to call my dad, I had to have it :)
Also tried lots of samples and bought some jams in the Good Food show and saw Tom Kerridge and Lottie Duncan doing cookery demonstrations, it's a chance to sit down as well as to see the cooking ;D
-
Oh you are Special if you can grow Himalyan poppies, usually no where in the UK is high enough! I found that lupins grow OK here in a deep tub so that the slugs can't climb high enough, one lasted 3/4 years before fading away.
Did U go on a holiday recently or did I dream that as well :-\
-
France in April for Paris - Roubaix, feels like much longer ago, and one night away for Malvern flower show.
I do live on top of a hill perhaps that's why the poppy likes it ;D
-

I am successfully growing three of them here in the Lakes CLKD. Beautiful blue. Have made sure they are growing where they are a bit protected. Love them
-
Well done :medal:
Watching lovely scenery on TV right now :-). Began racing in the rain, everyone has Froomy in the back of their minds .... now it's sunny.
-
Yes Herdwick they are a fantastic colour, unlike anything else in the garden :)
-
Apparently CF has fractures in the cervical spine - of course, some fractures don't show on X-ray initially, until callus forms round the break so there may be more
yet :-\
-
Not good but he is amazingly fit and determined.
Fingers crossed for next year.
-
Sad he won't be in the Tour. Hope Geraint has another successful one though
-
Women are around here today, it was nice and sunny but overcast now, probably a perfect day for cycling :)
-
Women are around here today, it was nice and sunny but overcast now, probably a perfect day for cycling :)
;D That reads really funny Two hoots. It's seems women are a rare breed where you are.
-
:D. The final stage of the womens' Pro Ovo-energy Tour today.
Headlines that CF lost 4 pints of blood during surgery, in my day 4 units was given routinely for a total hip replacement ::). I could tell some tales about blood loss!
-

Yes they appear when the sun shines or during Sales when you can see masses of then, squabbling and rummaging looking for bargains ;D

Looks like mainland Europe has the same weather as we have :o - the shots across the mountains shows wonderful cloud formations and clouds letting go of water .........
Was that hail on the side of the roads :o
-
'G' is out of tour de Swiss after a crash, now in hospital :o
-
:sigh: typical G he's hell to support, I've got enough to worry about I don't need him adding to it :-\
-
It will open up le Tour - haven't read any updates, been out.
How do the pro-girls pee ......... special pants?
-
Reports now say G will be in the Tour. Injuries are superficial apparently.
-
Scrubbing brush required?
I'm glad he's OK but it is a wonder how le Tour would have panned out if ........... :-X
-
Geraint is not happy, he's lost another pair of his beloved sunglasses ::)
-
Oh, no. ::) ;D
-
A fan will have had those away :D
-
Not long to go now ;D
-
I'm sure they are a week later this year ? I always think they start very end of June start if July ???
-
Lovely photos of Mark Cavendish cycling with a 5 year old - Cav not being picked for le Tour and 5 year old said he wanted to ride with him :-*
Cal Crutchlow needs Cav to explain how to ride a cycle ;D WHOOPS ::)
-
I am hoping that G has got his 'close shave' over and done with, on the first stage, and will now stay on his bike. ::)
-
;D ....... tell me again in 3 weeks ........
Watching MotoGP then will turn over once the Premium race is over.
-
I am hoping that G has got his 'close shave' over and done with, on the first stage, and will now stay on his bike. ::)
Just watched yesterday's highlights programme and said the same, let's hope that was as bad as it gets for Geraint :)
-
I slept through the Time Trial ......
-
😴🛌💤
-
;D ........ the last week took over ::). I slept all night too.
Shopping today B4 settling down on the sofa :whist:
-
I like Wimbledon as well, I wish they didn't clash ::) but it'll be the tour that takes priority ;D
-
Yep. Rolling out as I type ...........
-
It's on again. Like a transition stage. Riders chatting away - discussion C.mas gifts maybe ? ;D
-
Scenery is nice though. :)
-
I could live in that farm with the wind-mill overlooking the vine-yards and villages [very early this morning]. Wouldn't want to forget the milk though ;)
It didn't like the south much :-\ nor the flatness of Brittany. There are a few art works being shown from the choppers now.
-
We went to Colmar in the 1980s but remember nowt ::)
-
le Tour
Wimbledon
F1 Circus
?? what else this weekend?

Yep - Bad Timing ;D
Not to France by any chance :D
You're not missing much, actually :-\ not even scenery.
-

No a Baltic cruise but we have an Internet package so even if we miss the to coverage we can follow the result ;)
-
What a stage finish today, I'm knackered just watching ;D
-
;D we've looked at each across the room and gone PHEW ;D 'do we really need to cook after that, let's open the freezer cabinet and see what's there' ::)
Crikey. Where did 'G' come from :o. Don't think he will win this year though ........
Enjoy your cruise? Can you get hi-lights at 7.00 p.m.? Better now?
-

Because we are sailing east we will lose an hour so the highlight will be on at 8, so probably be eating then or tasting the odd cocktail ;D
-
I've never had a cocktail :o ............ :D
-
I've never had a cocktail :o ............ :D
I don't drink very often, I like a cider or a baileys but cocktails are my weakness ;) I can't believe you've never had a cocktail you don't know what your missing ;D
-
I don't drink - nor do I see the point of mixing drinks - have you ever seen a rainbow cocktail made?
-
I haven't seen one made but next week maybe ;D
-
Have the same problem as you TH. Off to Norway next Wednesday so will have to catch the highlights when we can.
Love cocktails, especially the gin based ones. Unfortunately alcohol is very expensive in Norway so will be a dry week.
Enjoy your cruise. 🚢

We had a fee alcohol package as part of our booking deal but I enjoy mocktails just as much ;D
-
Feet up, cuppa to hand. Getting my gob round a toasted tea-cake to keep energy levels up ;D
-
Flatter today so hopefully we won't be as knackered afterwards ;D
-
Trying hard to keep awake :-\ - 2 out in the front 1.19 ahead
Not even someone to chat with whilst cycling - spring happening, ? Sagan ?
Did U see the horses? Draught Comtois, similar to the Austrian Haflingers .... who have their own World Show in May each year.
-
Horses ummm I know the difference between a Shetland pony and a shire horse ;D
-
If you do a search you'll see them. Mainly for pulling carts and often palomino colour. Quite a history there ;-).
-
Peak District cycle paths sabotaged with 'dangerous' traps
Dangerous for all users - horse riders, walkers, cyclists :bang:
-
If you do a search you'll see them. Mainly for pulling carts and often palomino colour. Quite a history there ;-).
Oh pretty some nice blond manes in the photos I found ;D
-
Yep. Can't see how they would have been used as War Horses though :-\ by Napoleon. Riding ahead of battle maybe.
-
Feet up. Cuppa to hand. STUPID adverts :-X which seem to have been running almost as long as le Tour ::)
Plus Wimbledon, F1 and it's drizzling :-\
-
At least the French weather is fine ::). It's a transition stage although long. >yawn< . The Devil is standing on a bridge :o if he steps backwards :o :(
Dani talking about the womens' tours ........ apparently one womens' tour caught up with the men ....... the womens' tour was neutralised >:(
-
Chris Froome awarded 2011 Vuelta a Espana as Juan Jose Cobo stripped of title
What a day! Well done Yatesy ........ :-*
Ladies le Course today - followed by a break then the men ............
-
From Pau today ........... we went there many years ago, the humidity was AWFUL!
It's racing well so far. There's a big banner with a comical donkey painted on ;D
However: a cyclist suffered bad injury a couple of weeks ago, in a velodrome. The racing surface is wooden slats and he slid along against the direction of the stats :o
-
When Olympic gold medallist Dani Rowe retired from elite cycling, the self-confessed exercise addict set her sights on the 2019 London marathon.
The 28-year-old had competed for Wales in last year's Commonwealth Games and was in peak condition - she thought.
But within months of starting running she developed two stress fractures in her right leg, and a scan showed the start of another in her left.
"I wanted to get straight into running… I never thought my bones wouldn't be up to it," the three-time world champion said.
Experts said all the hours of bike training meant her bones were not used to any impact, even though her bone density, which had been monitored during her cycling career, was normal.
Why does this not surprise me? Cycling is certainly not impact sport.
-
What a DAY! though I slept through a lot of it :-\
Chris Froome on his bike 5 weeks after that awful crash - cycling with 1 leg ;D
-
:o. G had a bad fall ........... on a corner :-\
-
There was a contretemps between Dan Martin and Luke Rowe - both Team leaders - both disqualified :o the equivalent of dangerous driving :-\
-
It's was a very minor incident between Tony Martin and Luke Rowe. They both shook hand at the end of the race and laughed about it. Now both kick off.
Ridiculous :o
-
Having viewed more of the 'off camera' footage via le Tour programme from 10.00 a.m. it certainly wasn't a minor incident as it seems that: Tony weaved towards Luke who almost went into a ditch after which, hidden by the initial footage, Luke grabbed Tony by the neck and there was irritation most of the final miles of the race, prior to that incident between the two. Had it been in public Luke would have been done for attacking Tony in the street!
It does seem strange that after Sagan being thrown off 2 years ago that Team Managers haven't asked for a stay of execution, however, with such a fast race and with them being in the public eye, decisions have to be made immediately.
We haven't done anything else in the last 10 years except put these 3 weeks aside to watch ........ it'll be la Veulta next ;D
Crikey, what a stage :o 8)
-
Crikey that David Millar looks grey :-\ ........... must have been hot in the Commentary Box :o
-
Today is when the Race will be decided I think - I would like to C Julian Alephilippe win as I don't think that 'G' has the legs. With Chris Froome out the event has opened up considerably.
-
Heads up for Worlds being held across Yorkshire I think in September.
I would like to see a womens' tour round Scotland ....... rather than running le Tour for women in France why not set up an individual event?
-
Stage neutralised then halted. Still trying to work out the day's winners - due to heavy snow and hail: plus a landslide: on the final up-hill section of l'Izeran ......... man busy in a snow-clearance machine ........ emergency measures activated at Val-d'zair to get visitors and teams off the mountain as many were staying up at Tiene over-night. Glad we aren't camping :D
DH went in 2015 and didn't find anything like that except lovely scenery around Anency.
I remember years++ ago a Stage was cut short due to snow 2 days prior to the event. They were then bussed down to the valley. I remember a Stage being diverted due to snow ....... but never this fast and so suddenly :o
Like MotoGP last Summer, it's keeping the commentators on their toes ;D
-
An Austrian triathlete who says she was kidnapped, stripped and threatened with drowning has revealed how she convinced her captor to free her after complimenting him on his orchids.
Nathalie Birli says she was abducted while cycling near Graz on Tuesday.
. so lucky!
As for le Tour - did anyone watch the hi lights? Fortunately not to have been racing through that area when the landslip happened :o it could have been such a different story :-\
-
Tomorrow is to be cut short by 70 K, I think 🤔. Should still be very interesting though as usually we would already know the winner by now. Still all to play for.
-
Dashing round the chores and shopping ready to be back to watch this important Stage.
-
Look out for the various groups of Police personnel cycling for Charity across the UK - started yesterday and all headed to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire for a Service, remembering fallen comrades on active service.
COPS - look at your local Police Facebook pages for more info..
le Tour coverage put back until after 1.00 p.m. >:(
-
That's because it's a shortened stage hence they are starting later.
-
I reliased that but I was well set in ;D
Wonder whether strings required pulling in order to re-route the Stage: whether it's a local emergency evacuation plan kicked in: or whether le Tour has such clout that they simply told the local Mayor that 'we will cycle down the dual carriageway' ;D
-
Roll on le Veulta a Espania ;-)

We passed the Police Unity Tour in Hatfield Woodhouse (nr Doncaster) yesterday, they had started at Humberside Police force HQ at Hessle!
-
We saw them along the A5 very early this morning .......... I love it at the Arboretum worth a visit. There is always something going on as well as being able to wander and sit.
Paris on late tomorrow. A whole day to ourselves then :D
-
I'm home :-\ fab cruise :)
I have had updates in the tour :o what an odd race it sounds, I will be catching up on the highlights programme this week, but I'm watching the final roll into Paris now :)
-
Welcome back!
Great roll out - will 'G' lead into the first lap?
-
Paris is looking so beautiful :)
Friends of our went to the Alps to watch the race, can you guess which stage ::) they said they've had a great holiday without actually seeing the cycling ;D
-
;D
I've missed you :-\ ....... what a finish, where DID Caleb spring from :o :-*
Your friends weren't the couple caught on camera crawling from a small pup tent into their car ? seen from the chopper :-\. Had we been there in our camper we would have pulled them in ;-).
-
Do I feel a hi-lights party coming on for you and your friends? May I join in, I'll wash up ;D
I wonder how Egan will cope with the crowds and microphone in a few moments. Lovely scene from him and 'G'
-
I think Geraint has been like a big brother to Bernal today, looking after him :)
I wonder if Geraint will race in the Vuelta ? It's not a race I watch every minute of, the scenery is pretty boring some years, just dry and parched land, but if Geraint was in it I would ;)
-
It's on hi-lights again this year :-\ - means we have to do housework etc. ;D
;D
;D 'G'
Also Froomey holding a glass in celebration on his twitter feed 3 hours ago :-* - he's been cycling with his injured leg today :o - well enough for le Veulta ?
-
It will be live on Eurosport.
If you can't get it on your TV you can always sign up and watch on your laptop. ;)
-
Oh ............. :thankyou: I'll mention it to Himself ;)
-
A bridge to be included in The Worlds across Yorkshire in Sept. has collapsed :o due to the dreadful Summer storms
-
This country isn't huge, we have had a lovely sunny week here. Watching the news showing the rain in northern England its unbelievable, very frightening if you live near the reservoir with the damage :o At least the organisers have time to alter the route of the cycling.
-
They thought that they had problems in Val d'Sere last Friday ;D
Where's that week gone :-\ :'(
-
It's August where has the year gone :o
I know what cards will be in the shops in a few weeks time, I think there is another thread called "its not C******** yet" :D
-
Sssssh, don't say that word. :na:
-
I didn't say C******** I mimed it ;D
-
 ...........
-
A bridge to be included in The Worlds across Yorkshire in Sept. has collapsed :o due to the dreadful Summer storms
Saw a photo of how it is now and how it had looked during the Tour de France 4 years ago. Didn't know about the race in September though.
I have just got round to getting my bike serviced and also got a new saddle with more cushion on it. Have just ridden home on it but that is a very short ride. Will hopefully try it properly tomorrow. Also got a new speedometer as the old one had died.
-
Sounds smart Katejo!
-
Ride London on NOW!
-
Ride London on NOW!
I didn't hear about that until too late and haven't registered. Also I can't easily get my bike into Central London tomorrow. The Overground train service is suspended this weekend and I can't take a bike on the tube from here.
-
It was a dreadful finish :-\ 4 Ride London and the 'winner' was disqualified. Quite rightly so.
Tour of Poland -
Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) was looking to turn his year around after being omitted from the South African team's Tour de France line-up but crashed with 3.5km to go. The Manxman got back on his bike, seemingly unscathed, but would not contest the bunch sprint.
Alaphilippe was the favourite at the start of the day to defend his title at San Sebastian, having beaten Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) in a sprint finish at the 2018 edition of the race.
The reason for Alaphilippe's abandon is not yet known, and may allow his young Belgian team-mate Remco Evenepoel the opportunity to take the race on, with Deceuninck – Quick-Step arriving in San Sebastian with a strong line-up including Dries Devenyns and Enric Mas.
-
I put Eurosport on to watch the highlights of the Tour of Poland, saw the ladies crash :o it looked nasty. The tour of Poland like their inflatables ;D
-
Would that be flamingoes? What's that about ::)
-
I've read a tweet from Lotto, think one of their riders has died after a crash in the Tour of Poland :'(
-
Oh wow, that's terrible.
Fortunately it's very rare but no less shocking. :(
-
He was Bjorg Lambrecht and was only 22. :'(
-
So sad :'(
There have been lots of crashes in the cycling this weekend, Elinor Barker has broken her collarbone
:-\
-
It's a dangerous thing, this cycling. Crashes are worse because they are clipped in.
Next year's RideLondon applications are open - up to 80,000 or until January which ever comes first.
-
Not long now - Spain :-* plus Tour of Britain.
-
I looked at the team Ineos line up for the Vuelta, not sure which rider is the GC contender ???
I need to go and look at the routes for both races, I probably did when they were announced but have forgotten now ;D
-
I take it that's for Tour of Britain? Don't you get e-mail updates? I know that they are going through Burton Dassett Park, might try to get there.
MotoGP and Veulta this weekend :-*
-
Darts has over-taken le Veulta - at this rate it will be morning B4 it comes on >:(
-
It's a team trial, not a fan of tt's but there was an incident ::) I won't say in case it's eventually shown
-
SHUSH - we're watching. Himself thinks it's the cocaine capital of the World, all that white stuff on the sides of the roads ;D
-
I got bored >yawn< so missed the incident: was it the water over the road?
-
Yes, Jumbo lotto all crashed :o
Wow it looks HOT today, very barren countryside but some nice swimming pools :)
-
I try to see the pools ;D - will catch up this evening.
-
Criky there's been some falls in the various Pro events :o
-
Been watching the F1 so will see the cycling highlights later. We are cheering for Ed Laverack in the TOB he's from the local cycling club so we all know him ;D
-
What colour is he in?
Will catch up later.
-
He rides for Swift, I think the kit is mainly navy and white
-
:thankyou:
-
Lovely weather around Chester, flown over the Zoo this morning. Elli took absolutely no notice ;D
-
Acts announced for World Cycling Championships fanzone
Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, The Pigeon Detectives and The Feeling are to perform at the World Cycling Championships in Harrogate, which starts in 10 days time.
-
Steve Cummings down :'(
-
Huge armed presence to be arranged for Harrogate and the World Champs..
-
The weather is much nicer in the tour of Britain than it is here, it's grey and looks like it may drizzle soon.
-
Here being where :-\
Rotten weather in parts of Spain apparently!
-
Sunny west Wales today ;D
-
Burton Dassett done and dusted apparently - forgot to watch ::). We were going to travel over but it meant a 4 mile walk to the hill ......
-
Geraint isn't doing the Time Trial but will race this weekend. High Police prescience in Harrogate and roads are shut off ....... too much to watch tomorrow: cycling, MotoGP and F1 :o
-

Tomorrows menu, rugby World Cup, F1, cycling and NFL, it's a good thing we are all sports fans here , no arguing over the remote control ;D
-
Raining all over the UK by the look of it :-\. Crowds out across Yorkshier though :-*
>yawn< :: I went and typed a letter to Mum ........... ::)
-
Not going to be a good day where ever they are across Britain :-\
-
Lycra :-\ ;D
-
I love the way we're all different.
Watching cycling has about as much attraction to me as watching paint dry.
I seem to be totally missing whatever component one has in their makeup that makes one want to watch anything whizzing around on wheels ;D
Enjoy!
I can't stand cricket, it's the most boring thing ::) I say it's five days of boredom. The grand tours in cycling take three weeks ;D
-
I Love but don't understand cricket ;D
I love horse riding but daren't get up these days :D
Women trialling now ....... after putting the start of the race back 40 mins.
-
The two crashes are on the internet now - talk about slip sliding away :D
-
The two crashes are on the internet now - talk about slip sliding away :D
I saw the HUGE puddle crash ;D
-
The other was a feat of staying on/off/on whoops ;D the cycle left the air at least twice :o and he slid so far down the road!
-
The route has had to be re-routed ::) and it's tipping down :'(
-
Crikey :'(
-
Still raining up North. Racing over. Bet they will enjoy their baths later!
-
First amphibious cycle race I've ever seen. ;D🚴
-
Not many finished :o
-
;D
Enough to make it a race - I'm surprised that many bothered to get to the Start Line ::)
Chris Fromme to race in October :o
-
Geraints wife had a baby boy yesterday :) it might explain his end of season form, he might have been slightly distracted ;D
-
AAAhhhh .......... no wonder he's seemed distracted :congrats:
-
Tour de France:
Britain's Chris Froome says 2020 Tour route is 'brutal' as he aims for fifth title. :o ;D
-
I did look at the route, missing the north if France, shame I might have been tempted to go if the had visited Normandy or Brittany ::)
-
Geraint Thomas receives OBE at Buckingham Palace
Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas has received his OBE at a royal investiture at Buckingham Palace.
Thomas, from Cardiff, was recognised for his services to cycling. It was presented by the Duke of Cambridge at a ceremony on Tuesday.
-
I saw it on the news, looked like they were having a chat together ;D
-
About global warming probably ;D
-
There is a programme on Thursday at 9.00 on BBC 1 Wales, following Geraint Thomas in this years Tour de France. I'm not sure if it will be in the rest of the country Thursday but it may be at some time so look out for it.
-
Sounds interesting. I think I can get BBC Wales on the Sky box.
Thank you :great:
-
:thankyou: will it be in Welsh, the last programme was ::) and sometimes BBC Wales is later in the evening.
-
No it's in English, no subtitles needed ;D
-
I can put my phrase book away then ???
-
Omg the Physio :o
It was an excellent documentary I highly recommend it :)
-
Omg the Physio :o
It was an excellent documentary I highly recommend it :)
Oops, totally forgot about it. Bloody Xmas. I'll get it on catchup.
-
Didn't know about that - good to watch or painful :D

Breaking News
Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome is set to return to competitive racing in February at the UAE Tour, eight months after a high-speed crash.
The Team Ineos rider is training again after being seriously injured during the Criterium du Dauphine last June.
The Briton, 34, will compete at the UAE Tour from 23-29 February, after taking part in a training camp.
"I look forward to taking the next step in my recovery and getting back to full strength," Froome said.
"I've come back off a good block of training in Grand Canaria."
Meanwhile, Britain's Simon Yates has suffered a knee injury in a nasty crash on stage two of the Tour Down Under.
The Mitchelton-Scott rider was involved in an incident inside of the final mile of the race to Stirling, on the outskirts of Adelaide, and finished more than five minutes behind stage winner Caleb Ewan.
"His left knee is the real concern," said Mitchelton-Scott team director Matt White. "He could barely pedal to the finish line."
-
I'm recording the Tour down under but haven't watched it yet, another season gets underway :)
-
What's it on? R they avoiding the fire hit areas?
-
It's on Free sports channel, I don't know if you need a sky TVs box to see it ?
I'll let you know after I've watched it if there is any evidence if the fires. Australia is such a huge country it's difficult to know how close to Adelaide they were.
-
Womens Grand Depart - Bicester 8) ' cos I've forgotten the date ::)
-
I wonder if they'll have time for a bit of retail therapy first ;D
-
Not if it's filled with Chinese and Japanese ;D
Of course, the date is't obvious. Yet ::)
-
Spring classics start next Saturday
:ola:
-
Crikey. That means that Summer is on the way :-*
Will it be on TV anywhere? We've given up BT Sport as they can't liaise with Apple updates :-\ so we went directly to MotoGP which is slightly more expensive.
-
I have sky sports so I can usually find cycling on Eurosport, you will probably be able to watch on the computer but the commentary will be in Dutch, to be honest some of the cycling commentators are rubbish so listening to the Dutch commentary is not so bad ;D
-
I hate the interviews after. Some of the questions are cringingly embarrassing.
-
Don't get me started on pundits and interviewers >:( the Wales v France rugby today, three commentators, 5 in the studio and that Sonia woman asking idiotic questions pitchside, there is a boxing match in Las Vegas tonight the BBC have two reporters out there and it's not being shown on the BBC, what a good use of license fee >:(
-
Tnx goodness that the boxing ins't being shown. Legal Assault >:(
Dutch is OK by the end of the cycling I'll understand it ;)
-
Britain's Adam Yates leads the UAE Tour after a stunning attack to win stage three by the Mitchelton-Scott rider.
Yates claimed his first stage win outside Europe after breaking clear 6km from the top of Jebel Hafeet.
The 27-year-old shook off Alexey Lutsenko and David Gaudu around 5km from the summit to effectively win his first WorldTour stage since last April.
Britain's Chris Froome was dropped at the foot of the climb and finished 10min 49sec behind Yates.

HSBC will end its multi-million pound sponsorship of British Cycling at the end of 2020.
The bank has exercised a break clause in its contract - just three years into an eight-year-deal.
In correspondence obtained by the BBC, British Cycling boss Julie Harrington told board members the partnership was ended by HSBC due to a "shift in its UK marketing and partnership priorities".
-
Ohh I didn't realise Froome was racing again :)
-
Neither did I .......... struggling I bet initially.
-
Stonehaven to host start of final Tour of Britain cycling race stage
-
Apparently the UAE race is off due to 2 members of Italian Staff testing positive for corona ......... :-\ Is everyone going to Tenerife for their hols.?
-
OUCH! Bet Laura is sore and bruised this morning :-\ ............ a cyclist fell in front, she went down and a girl from behind rode right over Laura's back!! As for her face :o but she raced after the crash late last evening :o
-
It look awful. She's a tough girl though.
-
Racing with a fracture to the shoulder blade sustained a couple of weeks ago - I bet she eats 3 Weetabix for breakfast ;D
-
I didn't see the crash but I saw her poor face :) it's going to be very colourful in a few days
First spring classic today
:bouncing:
-
Ah, only just started when all stopped for a train 🚂
-
;D
what you watching it on :-\
Apparently all tested negative at the UAE cancelled cycling event ::) and the bloke who flew from there to Germany is also negative.
-
Eurosport.
-
:thankyou:
I've got For-e followed by cycling from Berlin this afternoon ......... the former is from Marrekesh - all sand and dunes.
-
Nicolas Portal: Team Ineos directeur sportif dies aged 40
RIP Nico :'(
-
Yes I saw it on Facebook, must be an awful shock for everyone who knew him, very sad :'(
-
There are reports that was a heart attack.
Wow, you never know when your numbers up.
-
Reading more this evening he retired from cycling due to a heart irregularity in the early 2000s.
Some of the riders feel 'trapped' as they haven't been allowed to leave after the UAE tour was cancelled - apparently the sheets on their beds haven't been changed ;D. Well fetch them off the trolley that has been left in the corridor maybe ::)
-
Paris-Nice on Chan4 ....... Gary sounds like he's got a cold :o. Some Teams of course withdrew. Right, feet up, men in Lycra ;-)
It's good but I can't get used to the new Team colours >:( what's Sagan in dark green for :-\ and it looks like France has had dreadful rain conditions if the fields are anything to go by.
-
Crikey there's some crashes in the Paris-Nice tonight! It may be pulled B4 they get to Nice due to the virus. But hey ho! hopefully sense will prevail.
They are a tuff bunch though, the guy brought down on the run in got up eventually and had 5 stitches into a hand :o
-
Giro postponed. :(
-
Not unexpected though. I really don't know why except any serious crashes would take up beds that are currently being occupied?
-
Paris-Nice finished today, out of Nice up hill for miles and a steep uphill finish - that's it until borders open.
-
I love sport, I'm not happy about it all being cancelled my plans for this weekend included, six nations rugby, Paris-Nice and the first GP of the season :(
Forget no pasta or toilet roll it's live sport I want ::)
-
;D
If you log into the MotoGP web-site you can watch races from years ago: 10 of the Best.
-
I watched sport yesterday both old replays of course, but when it's all you can get ;D
-
Some smaller events have gone ahead across the UK - snooker in Bournemouth I think. All antique fairs have gone ahead whoops wrong thread ;D
Two cases of the virus in Andorra ......... that's where Bradley Smith lives :-\ and where Cavy trains with what's his name ......... I can see his face and he rides a motor bike, fast :-\ ah Cal Crutchlow .......
-
I wondered about antiques fairs, I have tickets for the Malvern flower show in May, I'm crossing my fingers it's still going ahead.
-
Not if you are over 70. Apparently.
-
DH is in mourning for the football and associated podcasts. ::) I found a sponge football for him to kick around his office instead.
-
May I giggle ;D
-
Tour of Yorkshire postponed and Chelsea flower show off, those poor people who've been growing plants for Chelsea, all that hard work must be so disappointing :-\
-
Crikey. There'll B nowhere to go soon :(. What will the BBC fill the time slots with in May :-\.
-
The Tour is concidering going ahead without fans.
Not sure how I feel about that. How will it be policed and is it just to keep the sponsors sweet. :-\
-
It can't work surely? All the Teams live cheek by jowl in the first place ::)
-
I'd say it's pretty impossible to organise without close contact :o
-
Especially in France .......... ::) oh I will miss the cycling :'(
-
So do I, and rugby and F1, I should be enjoying the cycling from Belgium and Holland now :(
-
Yep. I wonder how these sports people are exercising ::) R they all watching Joe Wicks in the mornings ;D
-
Tour de France re-scheduled for end of August :-*
Geraint cycling for Charity .......can't remember how far or for how long ::)
-
:ola:  :clapping: :cancan: :bouncing: :spin: :jiggy: :cheer:
-
Oh I really hope it happens :hapij:
-
Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas has raised ?300,000 for the NHS after completing a trio of 12-hour rides over three days.
Thomas rode on a turbo bike in his garage at home in Cardiff for 36 hours over the course of three days from 07:30 until 19:30 in his bit to help raise funds to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
"No exaggeration, the last two hours were the hardest I have ever had on the bike," said Thomas.
"I could barely sit down."
-
I've been following him on social media and the news. I saw his son in a baby walker watching him, it was really cute ;D
-
;D ........ he would have to keep fit anyway.
-
British Cycling and HSBC:
The steps we are taking
Last week, we were delighted to be able to confirm two of the steps we are taking to help the nation and its frontline workers tackle the spread of coronavirus. The ?100,000 donation that we ? along with Sport England and DCMS as part of the Yorkshire 2019 Places to Ride legacy fund ? have been able to make to the Wheels for Heroes fund will enable more NHS staff to be able to commute safely and for free, by bike, as they continue their exceptional work across the country.
I am also pleased to say that we are now offering three months? membership for free for all NHS workers, thanks to our partnership with HSBC UK, and you can find out more about what that means for existing NHS members in the article below .......... .
However: so many front line staff are having cycles nicked and cars damaged >:(

The Women's Tour 2020, which was due to finish in Suffok, has been cancelled for 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but organisers have confirmed it will be rearranged for June next year.
The six-stage cycling race, which has been held in Britain every year since 2014, was due to take place from 8-13 June and was initially postponed in March.
Organisers SweetSpot have applied to cycling's governing body the UCI to stage the next edition between 7-12 June, 2021 using the same planned route.
-
The NFL American football play games in London in October and thats been cancelled today. Every day brings more cancelled events :'(
-
We wanted to share an updated on the Women's Tour with you all and to bring you the news that we've decided that the seventh edition of the UCI Women's WorldTour event will now take place in June 2021, following the postponement of the 2020 race earlier this year.
-
Bets on that this won't work?
le Tour will stick with that adjusted schedule, starting on 29 August and ending on 20 September.
La Course by le Tour de France, the women's race, was initially scheduled to take place over one day on 19 July on the Champs Elysees in Paris. It will now take place on the opening day of the men's Tour.
The Giro d'Italia will run from 3-25 October, and the Vuelta from 20 October to 8 November, seeing two of the biggest races of the season run concurrently.
Thank you, Gino: how a cyclist's key work saved lives
Full men's calendar
Full women's calendar
The cycling calendar has been affected significantly by the pandemic.
The men's season is set to begin with the Strade Bianche one-day classic in Italy on 1 August and end on 8 November with the Vuelta, which has been reduced by three days.
Other major races include the 'monument' classics Milan-San Remo on 8 August, Liege-Bastogne-Liege on 4 October, Tour of Flanders on 18 October, Paris-Roubaix on 25 October and Il Lombardia on 31 October.
The Road World Championships, which will be held in Switzerland, remain in their 20-27 September slot.
The women's calendar runs from 1 August with the Strade Bianche, and ends with the two-day Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta on 8 November.
The eight-day Giro d'Italia Internazionale Femminile is set for 11-19 September. And the first women's Paris-Roubaix will take place in October.
-
-
:bouncing: bet there'll be a lot of this :crutch: if they try to run the 3 together ;D
-
Difficult to plan anything at the moment, let alone a road race.
Just one would be nice though.
-
I don't think that any should go ahead .......... one Rule for them [like F1] and?
-
Britain's Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas will travel to France on Monday to increase his training for this year's event.
Welshman Thomas, 33, was champion in 2018 and then runner-up to team-mate Egan Bernal last year for Team Ineos.
The Tour had been scheduled to run from 27 June to 19 July originally, but it will now start on 29 August and end on 20 September because of coronavirus.
-
There is a programme on Eurosport 1 tomorrow, with the best of previous Giro.
-
September's 2020 Tour of Britain is Cancelled but the planned route is to be used in 2021.
-
Which means no professional UK races this year :'( but we have to keep the NHS safe so any professionals falling off ........... and boy do they sometimes :o
-
Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome has returned to outdoor training following reports he could leave his Ineos team this season.
The 34-year-old tweeted on Thursday he was training again on roads around his home in Monaco, where coronavirus lockdown restrictions have been eased.
Recent reports suggest Froome has been offered moves away from Ineos during this season.
Team Ineos have been contacted for comment.
-
e-cycling next week: Wed., Thursday and Friday evenings :-)

Should be start of le Tour this weekend so am watching Geraint's tour 2009. Again ::)
-
Yes I recorded it, the last few summers Ive been in holiday and missed some of the tour, this year would have sat and watched the entire thing, typical ::)
Missing Wimbledon but at least F1 is back next weekend :)
-
Don't get me started on F1 >:(. How are they going to keep Northamptonshire free of fans, 'cos sure as night follows day, they will try to get a look-C. They were on the roads approaching the Circuit the 1st week of testing when Bottas and Hamilton tried out their 2018 cars. Same with le Tour, if it goes ahead in August :-\ ...........
-
I dont know if France is staying stay away from the Tour, or if it's business as usual. I dont understand why you would go to Silverstone if you cant get in, but I wouldnt go to a party being held at the moment but seems thousands would :-\
-
I wouldn't go to Sstone anyway to watch F1, they charge too much! Friends used to go 2 most of the F1 meetings and could travel to Hockenheim, camp from Thursday-Monday morning, pay for weekend racing tickets, for the same amount as they were paying for the Sunday at S.stone. And that didn't include extra to sit in the Stands :o ...... Sadly in Hockenheim it rained that particular year ::)
-
Ive loved F1 as long as I can remember but never felt im missing out by not going to the races, I wouldn't choose Silverstone if I was going to watch a race. What do you think about going to the Italian GP we can stay on Lake Como, go and see the race and have a bit of shopping in Milan, otherwise its Monaco, some cruises call GP weekend ;D
-
If I had a Passport I would be with you ;D - did U watch the recent programme x 3 about Monoco ? Quite the Eye Opener :o , glitzy and oh so false .........
-
Yes I enjoyed it :) I am very posh ive been to Monaco a few times ;D ;D ;D I havent been into any of the places they showed but ive been outside them, almost the same ::)
-
Exactly the same without needing to posh up ;D. Lots of F1 and MotoGP races live there, they have been in total lock down and had to have food delivered. Instead of cycling regularly to keep fitness levels up ......
-
Watching le Tour from a few years ago, ignoring the men in Lycra this time round and looking at the scenery :whist:
That Danial Freeb speaks nearly every language on le Tour :o
-
Froome is to leave Team Ineos at the end of the season.
He will move to Israel Startup Nation.
It's a shame but to be expected. :(
-
The Isle of Wight will host the Tour of Britain – the UK’s biggest and most prestigious professional cycle race – for the first time ever in September 2022, following an agreement between race organisers and the Isle of Wight Council signed this morning (Saturday 4 July) that will see the final stage of the 2022 race taking place on the island.
It will mark the first time that the Tour of Britain has visited the Isle of Wight, providing a unique opportunity for residents and tourists to watch the world’s top teams and riders racing on the Isle, in front of a worldwide live television audience.
-
le Tour should be in Paris today :-\ :'( but the 'catch up' of 2018 has been worth seeing again: can't remember much of it though we sit here every day, glued ........... ;D
-
There's a lovely item on the BBC I think, Norfolk News, about a man who has built the Tour de France from models. Worth a look-C ;-)
-
I found the pictures, he’s nuts ;D all those figures of cyclists ;D
Ive been recording Geraints TDF, its good to have cycling to watch, its only 2 years ago but i cant remember it, I only know the winner ;D
-
We were the same - we watched every cycle turn ............ we hadn't seen the bit when his wife arrives in the car to be interviewed ........
Apparently the guy buys those models every year, didn't know that they were available. Well done I say.
-
Horrible crash at the finish line at the Tour of Poland. Everyone is waiting for news of the rider and photographer :-\
-
:o
-
Grand Columbierre up-hill finish today?
-
That was good! Uphill finishes nearly every day :o. Not enough scenery though ;D
-
Nasty accident 18km out :o :-\
Hailstones at the finish :o ..........
-
Its difficult to see the leader because all his team wear yellow jerseys :-\ good news that the rider hurt in Poland has been moved back to his home country :)
-
I thought that about the yellow jersey .............
Nasty crash yesterday but haven't heard any more ?
Good news indeed, apparently he didn't have head injuries as first thought. Painful though :o
-
I fell asleep :-\ ......... was it good ;D
-
Another accident today, a rider crashed over the side of a bridge and fell around 30 feet. He’s got broken bones and other injuries but it could have been much worse :-\
-
:o was Rodricx involved?
Ah il Lomardia ...... then another cyclist was hit by a car who had got through the security and was trying to park!
-
Froome and Thomas left out of the Tour team. :o
-
Geraint is doing the Giro instead :o I didnt expect neither to do the Tour :o shocked
-
Egan Banal is favourite and you can't have 3 'leaders'. I'm not surprised really. Chris is on his way out, Geraint probably doesn't have fitness to tackle too much during 2020. Making room for the young 'uns?
-
We're off :ola:
The route was announced this morning, is that to stop too many spectators? Ned et al commentating from Kent ::)
-
No Geraint and no Cav :( Smaller crowds and its August, I hope It doesnt loose its magic ::)
-
It's OK. Geraint will do fine where he is. Cav is still recovering from that Virus ........ Chris is moving on. It opens it up for the young 'uns ;-)
7.6km to go for the women. A bit of drizzle but fine now.
-
:ola: :bouncing:
-
Ok I have been told to support the Yates brothers :) and of course Luke Rowe ;D
-
;D ....... I'm with Ned Boulting :-* 8)
-
Chris Boardman is back on the ITV highlights programme :)
Already some very nice swimming pools on the course ;D
-
I'm pleased. I've just discovered I can watch the Tour and knit at the same time.
-
To return to cycling...I am struggling on my road bike at the moment...saddle sore...can anyone recommend reasonabley priced lower half clothing?! I am not a huge cyclist but am struggling to do more than 20 miles as so sore. I have just changed my saddle so hopefully that will make a difference. I was cycling in Aldi padded under shorts which I think may be too thinly padded (or lost their padding!) I would like to up my cycling to lose my covid padding...which unfortunately doesn't seem to be on my nether regions but rather on my stomach.... :(
-
They don't lose their padding but you do need to invest in professional-type pants. Also they can rub is 1 wears undies as well. Is there a dedicated cycling shop in your area?
We've been counting the pools - some are really bordering on infinity :o ;D and I don't like heights ::).
At least the peloton neutralised the down hill section :o or else. Nasty crash within 3km so no one should be eliminated.
-
Better today though Adam lost out at the last few yards. Too much messing about!
-

Hi Emm225 I saw your question a few days ago and remembered this advert which i had just seen. I am considering getting one myself https://essentialsaddle.com/
I am trying out cycling (only short leisure rides) also to lose my Covid padding. I spotted a month ago that I had put on about 8 lb in weight. I haven't put on any more but I can't lose it either!
-
Nice to see Didi the devil leaping around today ;D
-
;D He's got more energy than I have ;D
Done some chores and shopping this morning, pizza in the oven, TV on stand by ;-)
-
Didi was shown again he is leaping well with his new hips and knees ;D
Looks a beautiful day today :)
-
He had to leap above the water bottle thrown in his direction :o ;D. The camera crews do a Good Job.
Sunshine all the way thus far.
-
Is the advertising train going through prior to the race? Several seem to have polka-dot shirts and hats - I have a few of those in my drawers so maybe the spectators have dragged them out ? I suppose that the advertising companies had stuff already printed and ready to roll?
-
I love the caravane, we have hats, tee shirts, pens, the things cheerleaders shake, flags and did have water, madelines, washing powder and what everyone wants .... Haribo ;D
Just spotted a Krys sign, I have glasses cleaning cloths from them ;D
-
;D
R the cloths any good though?
Adam didn't time that right did he! and Peter Sagan looks depressed :-\
-
That was a fast finish after a lazy day! I expected it to end in :'( but it seems that they all got through!
-
Very lazy not even a breakaway today :o
-
Breaking News - Adam in YELLOW ! :-*
-
:bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:
-
Hi-lights should be interesting ;-)
-
Oh >yawn< - hopefully the mountains will be more exciting ::)
What breed were the 2 horses half way through the day? Pergeron?
What happened to Julianne? Why the hand up, was he baulked?
-
WHHOOOPS :o - cyclist and spectator collide ........ :-\ and it's misty. I feel cold watching today ........
Fabia Erooo [sp] gone
-
WHHOOOPS :o - cyclist and spectator collide ........ :-\ and it's misty. I feel cold watching today ........
Fabia Erooo [sp] gone
I think its spelt Aru, but it sounds like a howl ;D
-
;D ........ I think that they had every kind of weather except snow yesterday!
-
Cristian Prudoe tests positive - so how will that affect the French PM who spent a whole day with him? :-\
4 Teams on 1 strike warnings due to positive tests within teams though no riders thus far affected.
-
There's going 2B a lot of massage required this evening :o and some of the roundabouts had been removed.
Apparently Adam was very ill a few weeks ago: supposedly drank from a road side fountain ........ I would have sacked him!
-
☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️☘️
🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
-
Crikey. Peter Sagan needs to watch those elbows !!! Sam will get 2nd if Sagan is disqualified.
Lovely weather there again.
-
Oh >yawn< - I want scenery ;D
Saga of course was disqualified from yesterday's finish, relegated to the back .
-
See that Swiss roll. :clapping:
-

-
After an MRI, Romain Bardet has confirmed that he has a small brain haemorrhage, following his concussion.
Such a shame. :(
-
Sunweb shine again. :clapping: :sunny:
-
What a final 20k! :o .........
Romain Bardet should never cycle again. Closed head injury has to be taken seriously. There is never 'just' or 'only' concussion: effects can last for years :'( :-\
-
The scenery is FabULUS!
-
What an odd stage without the huge crowds cheering them on, I was hoping Porte was going to get the stage :)
-
He's supposedly going back to 'sky'/Ineos? I haven't missed the fans particularly ::)
-
There was probably scenery out there somewhere ? paint drying springs to mind :-\
At least no positive tests yesterday.
Oh the Madeline tomorrow :o that'll sort out the men from the boys.
-
Ineos Grenadiers rider Egan Bernal has ended his Tour de France defence with a withdrawal before stage 17.
The Colombian, 23, lost more than seven minutes to leader Primoz Roglic on Sunday's Grand Colombier climb.
-
Not surprising, in my opinion he wouldnt have won it last year if it had been run as a complete race ???
I’m still hoping Adam Yates and Porte will have a good day and gain some time. I’ve mostly just watched the highlights this year but I’m home today so I can watch it live ;D
-
We are feet up on the sofa TV on .
I have a theory: these Columbians live at altitude so do well initially in the Grand Tours. However. Although they train at altitude in Europe it ain't no where near what they are used to - so surely the lung capacity will lessen? = lack of stamina as the years go by?
-
Oooh Carapaz so near :o I thought he was going to do it, I felt knackered just watching ;D
-
I feel so sorry for Carapaz :'(. I wanted to step into the road to stop the others catching up ;D
Another hard day tomorrow ......... no Christian Prodoe [sp] today :-\
-
Oooh Carapaz so near :o I thought he was going to do it, I felt knackered just watching ;D
I did a lot of shouting at the TV.
Didn't do any good :(
-
 ..... have another go tomorrow?
-
Yes I always shout “dont look back” ;D
-
So do I - I read years ago that every time a cyclist looks back he loses time! as much as a second. If they are that close after a long day him ahead would be able to smell the others ;-)
-
Depends which was the wind is blowing ::)
-
Behind you
Scenery again today ......... I've looked at the screen and it is like a snake going up the sides of a hill with lots of Swiss-type chalets - ? skiing area ? FabULOUS
-
Beautiful scenery in quick watch ive had, off out soon but if I wasnt I’d be enjoying the views ;D
-
You'll enjoy the Finish ;-)
The Police were soon after the guy who jumped the barrier - lucky that he wasn't brought to the ground with a pistol at his head!
-
:) happy, happy 😊
-
Oh what a finish
:ola: :ola: :ola:
-
Yep. Wonder how much sleep they got ? ;D
-
<yawn> .......... WOW! :-\ :'( ............. there's be some getting out of bed by the test teams all night long!
-
R U all ready for later - of course they have to finish round Paris ......... regardless ;-)
-
Decided on Friday to go to the Shepton Mallet antiques fair so I didnt see yesterdays stage but by all accounts it was a miserable day for Roglic :( but a happy day for Porte :)
Paris looked lovely, as always :)
-
A weird end to le Tour :-\. .......... but it has opened up the race on the whole with a different Team controlling.
-
I don't like Time Trials, so didn't see it either.
Turned out to be quite exciting though.
-
No I dont like time trials either. Not long to wait until the Giro starts ;D
-
;D. I would like a Time Trial after each rest day ;-). I would get more done in the garden :D..
Giro and le Veulta over-lap?
-
le Giro - 3rd October ..........
Running from Tuesday, October 20th to Sunday November 8th 2020, La Vuelta will be made up of
18 stages and will cover a total distance of 2846,9 kilometres.
4 flat stages
8 hilly stages
5 mountain stages
1 individual time-trial stage
2 rest days
-
The summit of Passo dello Stelvio at the moment. It's -7°C and snowing. More snow over the weekend. (ilmeteo)
Part of le Giro stage :o ;D
-
Its late in the year for mountain stages, could be interesting :o
-
Did U C the photo on the Sports websites ;D. We get hi lights after 10.00 p.m., do you get to watch all day?
-
Yes we have eurosports, we LOVE sport so dont mind paying because we enjoy it :). Shame ITV are not covering it I did look for their highlights prigramme :-\
-
Can you get S4C they have live coverage :)
-
That'll B in Welsh then ;D DH is looking right this moment .............. tnx, found it. Will have to remember my Welsh.
Mount Etna on Monday - might be a little warm up there?
WHHOOPS - 1 fell on the finish line, mayB hit a hole in the road and veered off ....... :'(. Michael Lopis :'( off to hospital :-\
-
Giro is already on S4C, an hour before Eurosport. Looks like a beautiful day in Sicily, wish I was there instead if here in the rain :-\
-
Yep. It's in Welsh still ;D with the odd English word thrown in to keep me awake ........ it's olives and grapes right now with sunshine. Doesn't encourage me to get my cycle out though :D
Dreadful crash for Michael Lopis Angle ........... but back to the Hotel following surgery! builds 'em tuff :o
-
After 3 weeks you’ll be fluent or get your OH a teach yourself Welsh course for Christmas and next year he can translate for you ;D
-
He lived there for 12 years, me for 8 ....... we were busy doing other things ;D
Another Astana rider stepped off this afternoon .........
-
What's wrong with Sagan >:( :-\
Another stepped off for Astana - stomach problems.
-
Sagan didnt look that good in the TDF, if he’s not at his best why enter the Giro so soon after ???
Nice to see those white sunglasses towards the front today, come on Geraint ;D
-
Watching again ............ I think Sagan has 'had his day'. :-\
-
****ly pear cactii in flower as they head towards Mt Etna, apparently can be used as an emergency food and the fruits are picked: carefully: and sold in boxes like mangoes .........
-
Aparently Geraint crashed in the neutral zone today :o
-
Of course in Welsh we don't get that news ;D but I did notice that he has a mark on his left elbow :o
-
Hes struggling now, the commentators on Eurosport were calling it his funeral procession >:(
Brad Wiggins said he will struggle on with his injury and hopes he hasn’t broken a rib :'(
-
By now on le Tour we would have had helicopter shots of the caldera of the Volcano ::) but it's bleak with all those boulders from previous eruptions.
Looks cold and damp. Cold up there despite the locality. Have read a book recently about a man who cheated death when a Columbian volcano erupted a day earlier than forecast. Really interesting.
-
Ive walked to the top of Vesuvius, it was dirty and rubbly, I wouldnt bother again ;D I think Etna rumbles regularly, would have been nice to have some views of it though :)
Poor Geraint :'(
-
A good massage will help - shall we go and offer ;D. Will have a lookC at the hi-lights later.
I have a piece of Versuvias somewhere given to me by a friend.
The book: "Through a harrowing first-person account of an eruption and its aftermath, Surviving Galeras reveals the fascinating, high-risk realm of volcanology and explores the profound impact volcanoes have had on the earth's landscapes and civilizations.
In 1993, Stanley Williams, an eminent volcanologist, was standing on top of a Colombian volcano called Galeras when it erupted "
-
Ive walked to the top of Vesuvius, it was dirty and rubbly, I wouldnt bother again ;D I think Etna rumbles regularly, would have been nice to have some views of it though :)
Poor Geraint :'(
I walked to the top of Vesuvius also. I fell over before I'd even started, and a very elderly man helped me up.
Husband thought is was hilarious. ::)
Geraint is good, when he stays on the bike. Can't be guaranteed though. :(
-
:o a bidon in the front wheel :o ........
-
Yes videos on twitter :o
-
:o. I think that they should stop throwing them quite frankly.
-
I dont think it was thrown it looked like the road was bumpy and they jump out sometimes, same happens on the cobbles in the spring.
-
Don't they have special holders for the cobbles ............
-
I dont know maybe, but some still make a bid for freedom ;D
-
One was thrown at the feet of a little boy [3/4yrs] yesterday, his face lit up. The cyclists saw a few people ahead and waited so that the bottle landed at the child's feet :-*
-
They do try and throw the bottles and lunch bags near spectators, We have lots of bottles not so many bags. When we got the bags they had food left in them unopened, wrapped in foil with a sticker saying what was inside including french bread, rice cake type thing and a brownie, one if the bottles had a soup or milkshake inside looked disgusting when we cleaned it out ;D
-
Geraint has a fractured pelvis and has been withdrawn.
Such huge bad luck. >:(
-
OUCH!
Did U eat any of it, we did ;D
-
No just looked ;D
Geraint did come down hard on his hip, he has no padding cyclists are so skinny ::)
-
Seen the replay this morning :o : now had that been a footballer ;) :D
Geraint will need plenty of pain relief and non weight bearing exercise.
Apparently the ****ly pear in the area a thugs from Mexico, the pads are sliced and fried, the fruits make into jam. Anyone ? :-\
There re a lot of properties on this route 'ripe for renovation' ....... made of stone but no roofs !
-
I think it might be a mafia hotspot dont know if id want a holiday home there ;D
-
AAAHhh - I was wondering yesterday how much Giro has had to pay them in order to have a protected race :-\
They aren't half racing down hill :o now that they are out of the mist!
-
Well - Peter misses out again >:(
Was there a collision :o with barriers at the end
-
From Brent on Twitter:
Did anyone catch the crash that happened in our groupetto with 800 meters to go
@giroditalia
when the helicopter sent the unsecured barriers flying into riders just inches away from me? One of them on a stretcher to the hospital.

OH! I thought I had seen video of this:
Vini Zabù-Brado-KTM rider Luca Wackermann has been taken to hospital after an accident in the final kilometre of stage 4 of the Giro d'Italia in Villafranca Tirrena.
The Italian and his teammate Etienne van Empel were taken out by moving barriers at around 800 metres from the line of the sprint stage, with team general manager Angelo Citracca saying on Italian television post-race talk show that a helicopter had flown too low and blown the barriers across the road and into the path of the riders.
A representative of race organisers RCS Sport told Cyclingnews that the barriers at the side of the road were tied together and that the wind was low, suggesting that the RAI helicopter was to blame.
Van Empel was able to get back on his bike and finish the stage, but Wackermann was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital. Citracca suggested that he could have suffered a fractured femur or pelvis as a result of the collision, though his injuries are yet to be confirmed.

-
More on Luka: Vini Zabù directeur sportif Francesco Frassi said that the cause has yet to be fully determined, adding that the team's worst fears about Wackermann's injuries are over.
"They told us that the barriers moved suddenly," said Frassi. "We don't know exactly why; if it was because the helicopter flew too low or if the wind picked up.
"Fortunately Luca Wackermann came around in the ambulance. I've spoken to him on the phone and he was okay, he was calm and so our worst fears are over. He couldn't remember anything about what happened. He doesn't seem to have anything broken but we're waiting on what the checks-up in hospital reveal."
Wackermann and Van Empel were the only two riders affected and were pictured laying on the ground besides their bikes shortly after Groupama-FDJ sprinter Arnaud Démare was confirmed as the stage winner in a photo finish.
Van Empel later took to Twitter, stating that he has only suffered "small cuts on my fingers" and adding that the barrier flew into the group he was riding with "out of nowhere".
-
I watched the finish but missed all that drama :o
-
It's on the internet, the two cyclists laying on the ground and people moving barriers but not what happened prior. :-\
-
:'(. suspected broken back :'(
-
Oooh no that’s terrible :-\
-
Would anyone like some paint drying this afternoon :-\ ............ there's even more adverts today! in Welsh :-\ ;D
-
That's better, they woke up about 9kg to go ;D
Looked wet and dark through those trees, thought they were going to lose reception !!
-
Crky!

WTF?
Britain's Simon Yates is out of the Giro d'Italia after testing positive for coronavirus.
The Tirreno-Adriatico champion will not start Saturday's eighth stage of the Grand Tour.
Yates, 28, was tested after he "developed very mild symptoms" following Friday's seventh stage, his Mitchelton-Scott team said.
Team staff and riders have also received rapid tests and been cleared to continue racing.
Yates, however, will remain under quarantine "where the team can offer its best possible care", Mitchelton-Scott added.
"Simon's health remains our main concern and, thankfully, his symptoms remain very mild and he is otherwise in good health," said team doctor Matteo Beltemacchi.
Yates was in 21st position in the race, three minutes 52 seconds behind the leader, Joao Almeida of Portugal.. :'(
-
Alex Dowsett
-
Haven't watched yet ............ :D
-
It’ll be less tense for you now when you do watch it ;D
-
Tnx ;D - it's been tense on MotoGP thus far yesterday and today ::)
-
The Mitchelton-Scott team and title contender Steven Kruijswijk have withdrawn from the Giro d'Italia after the latest round of Covid-19 testing.
Jumbo-Visma's Dutchman Kruijswijk and Team Sunweb's Michael Matthews tested positive as did four staff members of the Australian team, from 571 tests.
"As a social responsibility we've made the decision to withdraw," said Mitchelton-Scott boss Brent Copeland.
Their British rider Simon Yates tested positive before stage eight.
Kruijswijk, ruled out of last month's Tour de France because of a shoulder injury, said: "Within the team we take a lot of measures to avoid contamination.
"And I just feel fit. I can't believe I got it. It is a very big disappointment to get this news. It is a pity that I have to leave the Giro this way."
-
I heard the report on the radio, last man standing/cycling wins ;D
-
Yep. Apparently they were in an 'ordinary' Hotel last week :-\ so weren't able to keep in the bubbles.
-
I love that the white balloon towards the end has it's own motor home ;D and who blows the Toyota car up every day . Rainbow over the sea now 8). I think that they have followed a heavy storm!
-
The eurosports commentator I dislike was almost wetting himself with joy for Peter Sagan, he said it was “The ride of the century” talk about exagerating >: I have switched to S4C sometimes when he grates on me too much ;D
-
They grate when they drop an English word in ;D
What a lovely rainbow over the sea? Wonder who else will test +ve during the week?
'the ride of the Century' ::) - that's Tim Peake in my opinion ;)
-
It's on again ;D did U C the dinosaur bouncing on the side of the bridge over a very GREEN river :o yuk.
At least they have sunshine thus far .........
-
A few moments ago we were given a whole list of recipes - don't know if the ingredients were local to the area or what he had eaten in the cafe the previous evening ;D - pizza was mentioned as well as calamari ..........
-
Thats when I started watching, I think its where the items come from, well he did say pizza and Naples in the same sentance ;D
I only saw a few minutes, I’ve lost interest since Geraint left :-\
-
Scenery isn't as lovely as on le Tour, in fact coverage is crap in comparison.
Naples is supposedly the home of pizza? I didn't see the white hot air balloon with it's motor home today ::). Beach looks lovely :-).
-
Oh YUK! we went to Italy for sunshine :D
-
With my newly acquired freedom I didnt see any cycling today, hair cut this morning and retail therapy this afternoon ;D
-
Oh do be careful, you'll be asleep on the sofa B4 T-time ;D
MotoGP this morning :-*
-
Look out for Scott Davies in the Vuelta starting soon, my sons friend from when they were both in local cycling clubs :)
-
Didn't watch today, time trials are sooooo boring. MotoGP took over ;-)
When does le Veulta begin? Do they over-lap?
-
Yes Vuelta starts Tuesday ;D
Im not a fan of time trials either, but I still think the 3 week races should have them as its a different skill to climbing or sprinting.
-
The Pros have to go out on their cycles and probably time trial more often than not. It will be le Giro on S4C and Vuelta in the evening ;-)
-
Cycling is already on Eurosport ; so thats on in the background all afternoon then NFL from 6 until bedtime ::)
-
;D. all these gadgets and they aren't enough ;D
-
2 tested positive yesterday
It's all go, not enough laptops in this house ;D plus British Superbikes and Surgeons this evening ........
-
Eurosport are switching between Vuelta and Giro today, coverage started at 11.30 :o
Im off out for lunch before the restaurant’s close again on Friday >:(
-
Ask for a doggy bag?
It's dry thus far in Italy.
-
Now *that's* what I call scenery in le Giro :-) :-* :-*
I suggested that we rent a property over there for 8 months: however it seems that there's snow until late July which begins in later November ;D
-
I'm not into cycling (my brother, on the other hand, is a fanatic) but I do enjoy watching the Tour de France only because of the scenery...it's breathtaking and it makes me wonder why I am not living there! ;D
-
Yes the scenery is beautiful in the tour de France, today the races were from Italy and Spain. The scenery in Italy was amazing a really deep river gorge then snowy mountains in the distance :)
Dont blame you CLKD, a log cabin with a log fire would be lovely, perhaps a StBernard dog would make it perfect ;D
-
NNNOOOooooooo they slobbers they does ;D
Sealyhams curl up in front of the fire without taking the whole hearth ;).
That deep river gorge flowing over those large boulders was great. le Veulta is often boring >yawn< - hi lights soon.
C.C. - if you look at le Giro site you can follow the routes and if you put the towns in2 Google Maps you'll get an idea of the flora/fauna in those areas. The place that they raced into this evening has a lot of history and is a ski resort.
I'll miss 2morrow :-\ fishing :-\
-
Also C.C. - If you go to the BBC news websites - look at the Scotland site and click on 'photos' you'll C the North in glorious colours.
-
I wont see much tomorrow either, out shopping In non essential shops while I still can :-\
-
Christmas Shopping then ;D
-
Yes, its made me think I need to get started, I’ll make a list ;D
-
Then leave the list at home and forget .......... :whist:
I can't be bothered yet. I suppose I need to get the cards from the loft then I might becom enthused :-\ and with the scenery in Italy it's not a bit like Winter ::)
-
CKLD- will check out le Giro on Google maps and BBC Scotland. :)
St.Bernards are sooo cute as pups, but yes, they are slobber-pusses. I'll take a Bernese Mountain Dog... ;D
-
......... take it anywhere in particular ;D.
A St Bernard became fed up with walking. A few months ago one sat down and refused to move from the mountain side so rescue were called out - it took 6 hours and it was carried down on a human bed/thingy/sling .......... ;D
-
Apparently le Tourmaline has been cut :'( as it's in France. So le Veulta takes a different route. GO Dan GO :-*
le Giro hi lights on now.
-
How was the fishing, I bought some presents may be for my sisters birthday or christmas not sure yet ::)
-
Hi! after a dull beginning to the day the sun came out ; then the wind blew hard for a couple of hours ; after lunch it was calm and sunny. I slept. Well. Lots of fish caught and returned ;-)
Well THAT'S what I call scenery ;D ........ is that snow left from last year or freshly laid recently?
I've decided to skip C.mas this year ;)
-
Due to heavy rain le Giro have been moved by coach cutting down the race distance ....... wimps ;D
Competing in heavy rain can cause riders, whose immune systems may already be compromised by excessive exertion, to become unwell as dirt and bacteria from the road is sprayed through the peloton.
Many riders are concerned it will increase the risk of contracting coronavirus.
Ineos Grenadiers tweeted: "The start of stage 19 has been delayed and will be shortened following discussions with the race organisers.
"Our riders [are] currently covering the first part of the stage on the team bus."
-
;D
-
Miserable end le Giro today :-\
-
I’ve been non essential shopping so I missed it but I now have 17 days to watch the highlights ::)
-
Get those feet up. Flask to hand ........
la Veulta in a moment or several 8)
-
Lovely views of Milan Cathedral and I glimpsed la Scala .........
-
I’ve been in LaScala, we were in a queue to get in when this bossy woman ushered us in in amongst a large group, what we only realised when we were in Was we had been included in a party and didnt pay ;D I cant remember what language the group spoke it wasn’t English ;D We soon went our own way to look around ::)
I don’t remember much else about Milan ;)
-
I was in awe - couldn't believe that I was actually there. I walked by la Scala several times not realising that it's an ordinary looking building: until 1 gets inside :-*. A few of us were invited by local Italian lads to get into the Cathedral by a side door; well no :-\ - we didn't have cardigans on to cover our shoulders so were stopped at the main door. We also saw The Last Supper which is quite small 8)
Looking forwards to La Veulta later.
-
what happened to the rider [Jay McCarthy? ] who landed in a field in a crumpled heap with his cycle even further into the field :o yesterday? It looked more like a MotoGP accident ??? :o
Lovely shot of Rodjec [sp] with the sunshine behind as he drove to the win, would be a lovely poster 4 my bedroom ;D
-
Never heard any more about Jay McCarthy :-\ .........
Enjoying the hi-lights, wonder if it will snow during today's route? Madrid tomorrow, then that's it until the Spring.
-
Lovely film of Tao getting a surprise: in pink ;)
-
Bounce.
