Hello Shadyglade.
Thanks for the heads up.
I happen to know that a vitamin B12 supplement is essential for vegans because it is made by bacteria and then ingested by animals. Apparently back in the day humans were exposed to it through soil but we are too hygienic for that to happen these days.
Take care.

Hello Kathleen,
I'm vegetarian, trying to go vegan, I take a sublingual B12 tablet only twice a week, when I was taking it daily (as prescribed) my levels have skyrocketed.

I've been veggie for 25 years now, I only take one of those all in one vitamins for 50+ women, can anyone advise on what I should be taking?ive noticed a lot said about b6 & b12
Thanks
-
Oh yes. That is very relevant in your case as B12 has a big effect on mood.

I don't eat a lot of meat, I'd rather eat veg,
So I've just started on menopace vitamins.
I've only been on them for a few days, so it'll be interesting to see if I start to
feel anything.
I did take just the B vitamins last year, but stopped them because they gave me
terrible stomach pains.
So hopefully, because the menopace have everything in them and not just B vitamins,
things will be better....fingers crossed anyway.....
-
Hi jillydoll,do you know is menopace ok for the whole breast cancer history thing? I have seen it before & I can't remember for the life of me I didn't buy it,does it say anything on the packet?
Thank you.............again ❤️

Vitamin supplements are no replacement for a good diet but I know that i am better when I take B12( I'm vegetarian) and Omega 3 oils. I also take Calcium with vitamin D and magnesium to help look after my bones.
I am always sceptical about these tv programmes as, like most studies and journalist articles, they just look at things from one persons angle - not the the total picture.
My mantra: Eat well and supplement as and when you feel it is appropriate but never overdo anything. DG x

Hello Dancinggirl,
You should take vitamin K2 along with vitamin D and calcium to avoid calcium buildup in the arteries. If you already are and just forgot to say, please disregard the post.

I eat a lot of nuts which are high in vitamin K but thanks for your advice.

I like nuts & raisins but I'm guessing I should take b12 on top of my daily all in one?never been an issue before,I've always been a healthy veggie but now with all this menopause nonsense 😡

Nuts are ok if you don't take vitamin D+calcium supplements (higher dose than naturally found in food). If you take them it would be advisable to supplement with K2 as well.
Vitamin K2 is only found in animal-sourced foods and certain fermented dishes. Small amounts are also produced by your gut bacteria.

Hi Jaypo.
I can't read the box as it's all been ripped, so sorry about that. ::)
I've had a terrible stomach today, think I spoke too soon on my post earlier,
so I think I'm stopping them, same thing happened to me the last time I was on
vitamins.....don't think I'll bother again with them, you just don't need anything else
to be bothered about do you? Lol....we've got enough already.......lol :o

Hello jaypo,
Can you do a B12 blood test? I have been veggie for 25 years and slowly going vegan. I take sublingual tablets 1,000 mcg twice a week. It's enough to keep my levels in the high range. B12 is water-soluble so it's hard to overdose because your kidneys will excrete any excess.

Here are the food sources for vitamin K
Vitamin K is found in the following foods:
Green leafy vegetables, such as kale, spinach, turnip greens, collards, Swiss chard, mustard greens, parsley, romaine, and green leaf lettuce.
Vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.
Fish, liver, meat, eggs, and cereals (contain smaller amounts)
Cashew and pine nuts are also a reasonably good source of Vitamin K
I do eat quite a lot of eggs, greens, cereals and cashew nuts but I do take your point that it might be a good idea to supplement with Vit K a bit. It's a shame it isn't included in Osteocare - I wonder why it isn't?

Hi conolly,I've not had a b12 blood test,I'm pretty savvy when it comes to my food, like you it's been 25 years I've been veggie but it's only now that I think I may need a boost, think i'll give b12 a go.if you can't overdose then it must be worth a try?
Thank you for the info😊
-
Dancing girl where's the chocolate,crisps & chips??😂
-
Dancinggirl,
Many old vitamin D/calcium supplements now include K2. Science is an ongoing process and maybe some famous products like Osteocare need more time to adapt due to patents, trademarks etc.
I talk from personal experience. Vitamin D supplementation without K2 has given me a kidney stone and hypercalcemia.
Also, K1 found in green leafy vegetables has less impact on redirecting calcium to bones than K2.
Here is a good review on this subject https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5613455/ (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5613455/)

Absolutely, jaypo. One of the good reasons to supplement with B12 is being vegan. Vegetarians can have a bit if they eat eggs and dairy products but I agree that in menopause a boost is welcome.

Like you I may try a vegan diet as I'm now trying lactose free & they say if you're not sure if it's lactose free,if it's vegan it's lactose free,so it's actually easier just going vegan 🤪 only thing is, I've tasted vegan cheese & no likey
-
I'm currently trying different vegan products, cheese included, and I'm beginning to not dislike them 😂 They actually make my bowels work so much better that I will love them eventually 😂.
