I thought I'd start a new thread as I can see some of you are talking already about going away over the New Year or just after....
I'm also hoping to go to the Canaries or somewhere warm sometime before spring as my husband wanted some early warmth - we normally go abroad around Easter just for a week, so it will be a long time to wait until warm weather in UK after we come back!! Something to look forward to though :)
Hurdity x
-
Haha ,you too? Poor canaries,it seems they are going to be full of menopausal women😂 hope you have a wonderful time hurdity.
We go every year on a cruise over Christmas and new year,it's so nice to get a bit of sun and warmth, ship goes to Lisbon, canaries and lastly Madeira, beautiful place
-
We have just booked another river cruise for Easter. It includes Amsterdam, the bulb fields etc.,
Not exactly exotic but should be relaxing.
-
What are river cruises like?we've always fancied trying one but know nothing about them.are the rooms nice and do you have a balcony?
-
They are wonderful. It's like going on holiday where the hotel moves and you can enjoy the scenery on the way.
They tend not to have balconies but sliding doors. The cabins are really comfortable and the food excellent.
We go with Rivera travel and if you go on their website each of the different cruises has a video. These give a good idea what the boats and each cruise destinations are like.
-
They do look wonderful.we've always gone with P&O but sadly their standards have gone downhill & cutbacks now very noticeable.we've booked next years Christmas cruise with Cunard so we'll see how they compare.
Away to look on riviera site 😊 thanks shady
-
We have booked Lanzarote in March :)

Now there's a surprise ;D

Lanzalover x
Hmmmm,is there a clue in you name Lanzalover 😂
-
My sister goes on cruises I think with Viking but says that they are getting more expensive: don't know if that's money wise or if standards have been lowered.
Nowt planned. Once C.mas is over I can come home ;)
-
And now it's the New Year - even though Christmas is not yet over for a few more days, we can really look forward to hols! :) .
Anyone going away soon?
Hurdity x
-
Nope, at least not yet. Still doing laundry from last week ;D. I will have lots of days out, time in our garden and visits to garden centres, to ease myself into 2019. I would like to go to:
Chester Zoo/area
Shrewsbury
Ironbridge
Edinburgh
which means booking ahead :-\
-
I've booked a Baltic cruise with Celebrity :) we have wanted to visit the Baltic for a few years so I'm really looking forward to it. We sailed with Celebrity in 2013 and found them very good but it's a different ship this time so exciting.
I think cruising/Lanzarote have hijacked this thread ::)
-
I'm going to the Maldives in a couple of weeks- so excited. I really struggle with the British winter so I'm delighted to be escaping x
-
Ooh the Maldives are on my list of places to go. Let us know what you think.

Will do littleminne it looks like paradise x

Any tips ladies. I am looking for ideas for a break in June for the family ( kids 10 and 11). We have done loads of European city breaks and Canaries over the years and also Centre Parcs many times. We may be moving house next year so don't want to plan a big budget long haul holiday. Anyone tried and could recommend any of the Euro Camps? The choice is a bit over welcoming and we don't like anywhere too busy, kids don't like kids clubs etc.
-
Make a list of what you enjoy doing. Get the kids involved. Cycling, photography, bird watching, museums; walking, beaches .......... could you have days out in the UK? Are you self catering?
-
Oh yeahhhh, the Maldives. Now that sounds really good......
Let us know how it was, .....Perinowpost plz.....
Is that the place that won't be there in decades to come?
I'm sure it's going to be swallowed up by the sea isn't it?
Thought I'd read that somewhere.
I better get there quick then..........🤭😂😂

Have you tried Thomson Alfresco. Similar to Eurocamp. We've been with them a few times.
-
Roseneath - I sent you a lengthy PM about the Isle of Wight. Didn't want to bore everyone else.
For me - a holiday to the Holy Land at Easter this year.
The Maldives - lovely place. True paradise. Had too much to drink with some rowdy South Africans and ended up jumping in the pool naked. Would have got thrown out I think if there had been any other hotel on the island. Won't be doing anything like that in the Holy Land ;D

AgathaC,
Sounds exciting to me! 🤣😂

Jillydoll yes I believe so, don't know when they're due to disappear though x
AgathaC 😂😂😂 I certainly will not be doing that x

My friend and her hubby have booked to go on a holiday to India to “the golden triangleâ€. Personally I would never visit India as I couldnt cope with the poverty nor the disgusting rubbish filled rivers. I hope she will be OK as the last holiday she had (to Bulgaria) was pretty bad and she said she was glad to get home. My friends 17 year old daughter is currently there and quite poorly with Delhi belly.
-
There's a TV programme this evening about cruising.
Some parts of India are beautiful. Up near the Himalaya ........ tea plantations. The Cities are full of poor, noise, heat, smell but outside, in the countryside ........ one doesn't need to get Delhi belly, by drinking bottled water even for teeth cleaning and avoiding salads/fruit unless peeled, drinking/eating hot fluids and food. Awful otherwise.
Another reason for staying in the UK ;-)

Youth Hostelling Roseneath? What do you and the family like doing?

Book 2 nights in Suffolk, mid month.
-
Suffolk is lovely. We took our cycles.
-
We have booked Centre Parcs Penrith for Feb . Meeting up with friends who have just had a baby (He is in his late 40s! Respect!).
At least there will be warm water to wallow in and they have a nice outdoor pool, lit at night. I can do some jogs around the woods. Am doing high ropes challenge with my son. Still thinking about June... thanks for all your suggestions. I am yearning for sunshine at the moment.
-
The Penrith area is lovely. High ropes - uuummm ???
June in Scotland, The Borders, : Hadrian's Wall? We stayed on a Farm which was the first camp that Baden Powell took boys to camp. If I could remember the name I could share it with you :D
-
Anxiety rears it's head even thinking about going away :'(. I need to see a friend but I haven't been able to pick a date yet :'( and that's to go to her house for 3 hours and back here.
-
I walked Hadrian's Wall in October. You can PM me for any tips, detailed info. Can thoroughly recommend the brand New Youth Hostel at The Sill xx
-
Ive booked to go to Cornwall in July (before the school holidays start!)
It seems a million years away....think I need to book something else to keep me going

My neck of the woods. Not sure if you will have children with you but if you do a visit to Lowther Castle would be an enjoyable option. They have built a huge wooden castle in the grounds for the kids and it is amazing

Looking forward to Lanzarote on 2nd March hoping for a repeat of last years weather we had an absolutely glorious week.
Lanzalover x
-
Oh Lanzalover, the weather was just perfect when we were there, sat at our fave pub looking over a marina and watched the world go by,aaaah bliss 😊

After my disastrous attempt at a solo holiday alone pre-Christmas (Weeks Yoga & meditation retreat only 2 hours away. I only lasted 19 hours!) my DH has suggested I visit by cousin in Bournemouth for a couple of days or have a week chilling in the Canaries. I would have been excited about this 10 years ago but in the last 6 month there is a definite loss of nerve. Will I sleep? What if I panic? etc etc rather than ' Make mine a large one' . It's bonkers. I took a year off to backpack round Asia alone at 28. I could sleep anywhere, eat anything, talk to anyone. There must be a market for Peri/Meno holidays - we could be one big understanding mess of 24/7 neurosis. I really sympathise CLKD. I'm sure once you are there you would be fine but there is the ' getting there' too. :-\
-
I want to get home at the end of the holiday to know whether I've enjoyed it or panicked that not's the way to look forwards. For me it's physical. Once that nausea kicks in I am away home. I am better if alone 'cos I don't have to explain myself. I can come and go, stay in bed or a deep bubble bath without justifying myself.
Would a trip to Bournemouth help, my cousin wants to 'meet up' but that means making plans :'(
-
I've booked Lanzarote leaving next Thursday all being well this time.i felt so bad not going in December and letting hubby down again so I'm going to be extra vigilant with my eating this next 7 days and not do anything that causes me discomfort or anxiety and do my damdest to get away.my "calm" app and Dr chaterjees 4 pillar book will be worn out this week 😂🤞DD😘
-
Well done you. I'm sure you will be fine.
Think of me in Sunny Suffolk ::) ;D
-
Good for you dd,I'm sure you'll get there this time 😊
-
I feel a bit of a fraud since I used to be the one geeing my friends up on here and saying go away you'll be fine and pointing out all the positives then I fall by the wayside myself lol.
Never mind shadyglade if I have to crawl to that airport on Thursday I will I'm determined to not let this get on top of me again.im not a very good example right now am I 😂thank you as always for your kind words take care 😘DD

Well done Droopydrawers,
Come on gal, you can do it, we're all behind you.!!!!
Do what you have to do this week, like you said, and I'm sure you'll get there and be fine.
Just stick to what you know though, while you're there, so there's no hiccups while you're away, then you can have a lovely time, relaxing, getting some well deserved sun!
God wish I was going, any room in your suitcase for a small one? Hahaha
-
Hi Jd nothing would give me more pleasure than sneaking you in my suitcase we would have such a giggle getting up to naughty stuff.if I still had my house in Spain there would be a planeload of us old wingers assaulting the place.😂😂DD😘
-
Ohhh, thanx Droopydrawers.
We'd have a great time wouldn't we?
With or without hubbys? Errr, WITHOUT! Lol 🤣😂🤣😂
Hope you're ok, not long to go now......then. ✈️ 🏝☀️
-
Hi ladies well I made it here to Lanzarote this time lol we left home at 4am to get to airport and everything went smoothly.flighf was very fast we had tail winds apparently so did in just over 3 hours from Luton.it was a but windy when we landed and went to get our transfers to hotel but that went smoothly too then about an hour after we got here the heavens just opened and it was horrible the whole afternoon.typical lol.apparently we had snow at home shortly after we left for airport so that was a lucky escape.hopefully the sun will be out tomirrow.😎DD😘
-
So pleased to hear you got to Lanzarote well done you.Sorry to hear about the weather hopefully you'll wake up to blue skies tomorrow.
Lanzalover x
-

You just have a lovely time, you deserve to, have a cola for me babe. 🥤
Take care xxx
-
Yes I've heard about that bum Jd 😂
Lanza we actually walked to the Rubicon marina today 15000 steps I've done today when I think how I struggled to walk 300 steps safely 2 years ago I'm actually right up myself with that achievement 😂😂 my ruddy hips were grinding on the way back but it was so worth it.the sun's back out now and im looking good ladies lol.
I would def come back here just for the walking alone I felt safe and the marina area was just lovely and of course I shopped lol retail therapy is so good for me.DD😘
-
Well done DD don't know if I should tell you this or not with your love for shopping but there's a market at the Marina on Saturdays and Wednedays from memory I think it's 9am till 2pm.
Yes the walking in Playa Blanca is lovely as the prom is flat if you carry on from the Marina you'll get to the Dorda beach (spent many happy days there) and if you continue on you will come to town beach with the bars and restaurants on the prom plus a few shops.
Carry on you come to the harbour where the ferry to Fuerterventura leaves plus the water taxi glass bottomed boats etc although at present they are in the middle of construction work for the new cruise terminal so it's not looking very pretty. You can continue on to Flamingo beach then there is a fairly step slope at this point but once over that it's flat all the way to the lighthouse there is a nice little bar about half way there where we usually stop for a drink and lunch think it's called merena or something like that when we get to Faro we have a drink and hop on the bus back into to town (as we always stay in town)
Although we usually either walk from town to Los colardas or Papagayo beaches or in the other direction towards the lighthouse as we are at the halfway point being in town don't know if I could do the full length of prom well not without medical assistance or a lot of G& T stops ;D
I assume it's now stopped raining as you you've been out hopefully the weather will be kind to you for the rest of holiday.
Wish I'd been at the Marina today I'm sitting her imagining myself sitting in Cafe Terraza having coffee and cake and watching the world go by while trying to decide which very posh boat I'd buy when I win the lottery ;D
Have a good evening
Love Lanzalover x

Get some pain relief down you DD to counteract any stiffness overnight!
Nowt planned.
-
Hi ladies thanks for the tips lanza much appreciated.we didn't get any further weather was 2 bad but today we actually saw some sun and sat out for a while so at least we've had a nice ending to our break it was the inbetweeny bit that was pants 😂.
Yesterday we played bingo in the hotel with the masses and hubby shouted for the line then made me go up to collect the prize and wouldnt you just bloody know it he had a "lulu".my face was every shade of red and of course they're all shouting chuck her in the pool he sat there all innocent chuckling away and then 2 numbers later called again so I said no you don't if you want it go and get it 😂he got a bottle of cheap plonk that we couldn't even give away as we don't drink.no one wanted it obviously local vinegar lol.home tomirrow now.its been a lovely break regardless so next one is mykonos in may for our anniversary we always go there it's so romantic and the hotel owners treat us like old friends it's lovely.DD😘
-
Clean the drains B4 you go with the wine?
-
Sorry to hear about the weather DD but sounds like your making the best of it.
We've just been discussing our November holiday to Lanzarote March is already booked ha ha.
DH had said we needed to cut down holidays this year so I did casually say so are we only going March and November and he did say he was thinking of June as well so that was a result ;) I'll get the holiday form signed by work before he has a chance to change his mind !
Safe journey home tomorrow.
Lanzalover x
-
Hahaha, Lanza,
Get that form in on the double......lol
-
Well if you insist ;D

Your lucky to be able to book the holidays in the calendar year we are actually in ie book 2019 holidays at work in 2019! When I was at work they wanted to know about your proposed holidays at least 18 months in advance, so I would now be looking at holidays for around June 2020 onwards. Have a lovely time when you go. Not long till March.
-
Good thing about hubby having his own business,we can go anytime 😃 but ALWAYS go over Xmas and new year as his business shuts for two weeks,so away to book for 2020!! Hopefully I'll live that long 😳
-
That was the same in the Banks too - also one wasn't allowed to take the same week every year so that there was a variation for everyone. One wasn't allowed to work in the same Branch as a spouse .........
Nothing booked yet. Have to go to see Mum soon ::)
-
Have decided to go to Minorca in June bet you weren't expecting that one ::)
We are now taking DGD so decided we would have a bucket spade holiday plus it's a lovely island and a shorter flight with a little one.
Holiday form completed now so I'll hand in tomorrow.
DH and I have decided to have a romantic weekend away :bed: at the begging of April think we are going to the Lake District but destination may change.
Lanzalover x
-
Lanza!!!youre going to have to change your name now😄
Enjoy ❤️
-
Didn't surprise me actually ;D
The Lakes are lovely; so is Derbyshire; Northumberland ........ depends on what you want to do with your time really ;)
-
Oh well done Lanza, it'll be lovely with granddaughter.
Watch out on your romantic break, he'll lead you astray again! 😂🤣 :whist:
Enjoy.......💑

Hi
Don't think I'll need to change my name jaypo can't see me getting that feeling of peace and calm when we arrive with a 2 year old although she is good little thing and really good company her vocabulary is amazing so you can have a really good conversation with her DH and I both love spending time with her. I'm really looking forward to it.Just need to get the dates confirmed with work now !
DH can lead me astray anytime jillydoll unfortunately he doesn't get the opportunity very much these days :'(
I'm pleading the 5th amendment CLKD ;)

Goodness! I just couldn't plan that far ahead. Our leave year runs from February to January. The leave booking system from Feb 2019 was only loaded on the system in about November. I don't know what I will want to/be able to do in 18 months. I'd be reluctant to risk the possibility of having to cancel due to developing a new illness or a family bereavement (for which the insurer probably wouldn't pay out).
I have to fit in with colleagues so my leave is sometimes refused but no one books more than a year ahead.
-
We may go to see Mum next week :-\ - her property needs checking and the garden walking round to plan the next set of chores ...... it will be weather dependant.
-
Beware all you holiday makers!!
Apparently if we leave the EU without a deal, on 29th of March, you will need at least 6 months on your passport to travel in the EU.
Worse still if you carried some months over, when you last renewed, you may need up to 15 months left in order to travel.
This info is from todays I newspaper. Full details on the Home Office website.

I've always found that you get treated better if you learn and attempt to speak the language wherever you are. You can also find out what is being said in your presence to some extent as well !

That was one of my reasons for learning Italian because I go there most years. I still get a buzz from surprising Italians and Germans with a competent command of their language. Their expectations though are so low that I was once praised just for asking whether a shop in Berlin sold stamps. ;D
-
That happens quite a bit in Wales CLKD. OH learnt Welsh, that shut them up to an extent but he was told (by an incomer Scotsman) that he sounded like a paki. OH gave up on welsh speaking after that.
I am Welsh and find this comment highly offensive.
-
I'm with you on this one TH.
Bit insulting to the Welsh and Pakistanis. :o
Why can't the Welsh speak their own language??

I went to evening classes to learn Italian after our first trip there in 2000. We go self catering and i'd asked in a shop for about a a kilo and a half of proscuitto using a phrase book ! We loved Italy and planned to go back so thought it time to learn the some language. I'm not competant by any means and now very very rusty. We had a few trips back to Italy and it was fun to try it out even if just the odd word, phrase or too that got you a smile. Difficult bit was processing and understanding all that was said back to you ! i'd get odd bits, easier reading it.
Tried german years ago but couldn't get on with it. A practical language though with words like Bustenhalter !
Lovely that you go to Italy so often. I read somewhere that if you lead a good life you are reborn in Italy. Or something along those lines. I'm trying !!

We nearly always end up at one of the Spanish Islands but we have been to Croatia, Malta, Corfu, Portugal etc. Since I am doing a Spanish language course I would like to use my Spanish this year.
We usually go in June.
-
Of course it's quite OK about speaking their language but it's obvious when they switch to Welsh when visitors walk into shops etc.. However, I knew enough to let them know that I was aware that they were talking about me ;D. Then they would swap back to English ::). It is rude to make it quite so obvious. Had I been in the country for longer I would have learned a lot more, but we moved ::). Maybe it doesn't happen these days, I lived there in the 1970s. I also worked with a girl who spoke English with me but in a group she would insist on Welsh which was less than inclusive ::). I could have been offended but what was the point, we got on well otherwise.
Have tried to learn French since but that went straight over my head :(. Italian I love - when I was in Primary School we had an Italian family move into our village, I befriended the girl as no one else spoke to her in the Playground. She would visit my home to learn English - she was quicker at it than I was at learning Italian. Suddenly, the family were gone :'( and I wonder often where she ended up. I don't even know her name.
It is said that living in a country is the best way to learn languages ......... my anxiety won't let me and I would love to go to the Italian Lakes :-\.
-
I'd love to learn Spanish,I've tried and failed,I'd be ok if everyone spoke reeeeeeeeeeeeeeallllllllyyyyyyy slooooooowwwwllllyyyy 😆
-
I can understand some Spanish and I'm fairly good when it's written down but if they then start a full conversation I get lost as they speak so quickly like jaypo I'd stand more chance if they spoke slowly but that's not going to happen in fact in Lanzarote they speak so loudly and quickly most of the time it sounds like they are arguing ;D
They do hold informal classes all over the island which consist of English speakers wanting to learn Spanish and residents who want to learn English which sounds like a really good idea so may give them a go if we ever spend winters over there plus the added bonus is they are held in bars, teleclubs, sociadads etc 🍷

When i went to Italian evening class it was the best evening class i'd ever joined.
Prior to that i had done dry classes, Book Keeping, Computing etc ::).
We made a social side out of the Italian Class went out for occasional Italian meals in town and the occasional Italian film. When the class was due to disperse after we ran out of needed numbers for the college one classmate offered for the teacher to use his meeting room at his business and a core of us continued there.
Houses are being sold in Sicily at the moment for 99p with a few caveats. It's tempting ;D just wish i was younger we wouldn't now attempt the possible mafia and italian bureaucracy. It's reported that many have applied though.

Just booked 2 nights in Dorset for mid Feb. Going to see the snowdrops at Kingston Lacy. Hope there will still be some left. :-\
-
I love snowdrops, so fragile. Crocuses (Croci?) out next.
Just booked Bratislava, Slokavia for June. Direct flight Ryan air £32 each way! 27'C there in June hopefully.
Ment to be really pretty, like a smaller Vienna.
Have to brush up on my Slovak :-\
-
Is that Blad Lake in Slovakia?
Crocii are up in my pots but keeping their petals tightly closed thus far.

Is that Blad Lake in Slovakia?
Do you mean Lake Bled in Slovenia by any chance CLKD?.... ;D ;D

;D. Possibly :thankyou: looks lovely on tourist 'photos and if I didn't suffer with anxiety, it would be on our Plans ;)
Whoops - don't want to start WW3 by getting the wrong country :o.

I stayed near there years ago when it was the former Yugoslavia. It is very pretty & the church is on an island in the middle of the lake (don't think I went to see the church though).
Whoops - don't want to start WW3 by getting the wrong country :o.
No I'm not starting WW3 either CLKD, just trying to put you out of your misery - can't have you lying awake at night trying to think of the name of the place ;)

A friend went about 10 years ago. Really enjoyed it. As I did when I got as far as Isola Bella ........ I was 18 :o.

If you have room in your suitcase I'll come to Slovenia, it has absolutely, positively nothing to do with Aljaz from strictly being Slovenian ;D ::)

'gluten' seems to be a common theme ;)
Enjoy your trip!
Gluten free is the in thing for some reason. At my spanish group the hostess makes little gluten free cakes and sets them on the table with a flourish saying “these are all gluten free†but almost whispers it like she has made something extra special and very rare and then the others all ooh and aah like they've discovered some magical treat. It just gets on my nerves! ;D
-
:D - would 1 realise though PF?
Two hoots - get in line, I'm first ;D ........
Bet some of the kids across the UK are enjoying their days off due to Schools being closed 'cos of snow. Didn't happen in my day ::)
-
Oh nooooo penny ☹️ I'm allergic to wheat so it's a must for me
-
My doctor suggested that i try cutting out things as i keep bloating on occasions. Hence why i've mostly cut gluten out. Not good at keeping to it though. It is an expensive fad if you view it that way.

Cruise companies are excellent, you just pre warn them and hey presto, they make menus for you
-
That's an enclosed environment. B&B, Hotels etc. or simply dropping into a Cafe :-\
-
These days most B&Bs, hotels etc., ask on booking. Where we are staying, in Dorset mid month, asked if we had any special dietary requirements. It is very normal now.
-
Oh I manage in the UK. It's those travelling abroad that might find dietary requirements hard work ;)
Dorset. Haven't been there for years - postcard please?
-
Soon ...... snow permitting that is ::)
Hurdity x
-
Not sure about restaurants etc abroad but surely they have people with food allergies too but shadys right, almost everywhere will ask if you've any dietary requirements
-
Had croissants and coffee today for the first time in weeks......burping, bloated and anxious now for the first time in weeks! Should have stuck to porridge....
P.S. To one of the former posts. Going to Bratislava the capital of Slovakia via Ryan Air. Hotels are very cheap vs western europe. Booked one called The Loft. We like swimming in warm lakes/Lidos and there are plenty of those in the parks around the town. Living in Scotland we crave warmth!
-
What I'd do for a croissant ☹️ Just not worth it though is it roseneath?
Already booked our Xmas and new year holiday 😊
-
My sudden deep burping is cheap entertainment for grandchildren. They find it hilarious and i get told to say pardon.
We are going to Wales for a long weekend in a few weeks time. No longer have to pay going over the bridge to get to see family there. Staying in an airbnb for the third time.

Crikey - it's years since there was a Toll over the Severn ......... or to the Isle of Skye 8)
Coffee makes me feel sick within moments :-\

They only took the toll off the Severn Bridge last December 2018.

That must be the Bridge that I've never travelled over, the 'newer' one? Not that I would know as I shut my eyes TIGHTLY over anything like that :o :-X ........... we went to Port de Tanquville [France] years ago and DH kept saying look at the view ......... :D
-
It was for both bridges which still had tolls.
The newer one is better as you are not so attracted with less spaces to look over the side ! So you may be okay on that one.
That french bridge looks much like the first Severn one.
I used to get the Aust ferry over the Severn years ago with my parents to visit relations before the first bridge was built.

I know the bridge it's near Honfleur, it's two humps like a rollercoaster ;D . We came home over the Severn bridge two weeks ago, it's the first time ever I wasn't digging around in my bag to find my purse and could admire the view ;D
-
When I was little my dad scared the bejeezuz out of me as he said that we drove over all the bumps on the forth road bridge in Edinburgh 😆
I loved my stay in wales(Chepstow) but it used to put £6 onto my shopping bill to go to Asda in Bristol every week, glad it's stopped

You LOOKED :o  .............

Noooooo still don't like crossing bridges 🤪

Weather allowing, I'm off in the morning. Fixed grin taken out of the drawer ;)
So will be out of wifi range :-\

I had a really enjoyable 2 days in eastbourne there,we've never been before so did the typical walk along the prom and had a chippy went onto the big pier and visited the arcades. It was so relaxed and lovely to see all the families, kids on their little scooters enjoying the simple things and elderly people enjoying their ice creams I really liked it.we stayed at the very dated but very comfy clean and friendly Best Western York hotel right on the prom.it was a nice change for us.We now have countdown 10 days to marbella pleeese let there be NO rain this time 😂DD😘
-
That's great DD,like going back in time almost 😊 happy days

Yes jaypo like an upmarket saltcoats 😂😂

Couldn't understand why DH hadn't booked our weekend away in the Lake District but I know why now.
2019 Golfing fixtures have just been released and guess what they are playing in Llandudno on the Friday so we're going there now 😂
I don't mind really DH will go early in the morning and will get a lift and I'll go mid morning in the car DH has said he won't go for dinner with the team he'll he straight to the hotel after the golf although I think he may stop a while at the 19th 😂

Lanza - were you annoyed at the delay?
Nowt planned. Days out are enjoyable.
-
No it was always going to be April I just couldn't understand why he was dragging his feet over booking it I had forgotten the golfing season would have started by then and as they play most Friday's he was obviously waiting to see where they were playing that particular Friday.
I actually like Llandudno and so long as I don't have to cook or clean I'm happy.

Important information regarding passports if we leave the EU without a deal on the 29th March.
Please check if you plan to travel after that date.

Yes heard that earlier. Have never flown with them I am close to booking a trip to Romania.

We've never flown with them either. They never seemed to fly to the places we wanted to go to. They have been in trouble for quite a while.

Off to Dorset tomorrow to see the snowdrops at Kingston Lacy. Just a couple of nights but good to have a break this time of year.

Will there be bees, our snowdrops attracted loads on Friday :-)

I remember going to Weasenham Woods as a child, B4 the age of 5. The scent was lovely, followed by bluebells. We used to pick them too. I have lots in our garden which are open to the :sunny: this morning.

have just booked a week in Mainland spain. Costa del Sol near Marbella, All Inclusive. Got loads of vg reviews and got a good price from our local airport. Did it online as usual.
We have been to all the Spanish islands in the Canaries and Balearics but never Spain itself. Will be interesting to see whether my Spanish lessons have helped at all.

How lovely PF.

DH and I went to Bruges in 1967 :whist: on a School Trip. We had to go by Ferry :o. I would pay the £60.00 ::)

Yes, they were wonderful. Crocuses and some daffodils out as well. Weather was mainly sunny and dry. Lovely spring trip.
B&B was a bit strange though.

Okay, so we are off to Bruges tomorrow and were booked of the 9.25am ferry from Dover. The weather forecast is for very strong winds and the wind speed is due to be 51 miles per hour when we sail.
I have re-booked on the Shuttle. ;D
-
I would have booked on the Shuttle initially ;D - do let me know about That Tree B4 you go ! ;)
Have a lovely time. My address for a post card is .......... :whist:
-
;D ;D ;D
The shuttle is so easy, I usually use my Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for it. It's only about a 90 minute drive to Bruges so you could be having a beer by lunchtime ;)
My favourite chocolates come from Dumon, they have a tiny shop not far from the main square.
Have you tried an all in ? It's a cup of hot milk and a pile of chocolate buttons, you add the buttons and they slowly dissolve, I always have one in Bruges, but not all the buttons make it into the cup ;D
-
 enjoy yourself. Have a cup of hot chocolate with buttons 4 me ;).
-
I buy the chocolate buttons from the Chocolate Museum.
Only 6 Euros for a big 1 kilo bag.
-
I've literally just got back from Bruges Shadyglade we had a lovely time it's one of our favourite places . It was 3 degrees warmer there than here, we even had 1 really sunny afternoon. That said we drive there x

You got any plans jillydoll ?

Thinking of Malta for September.
Anyone been there??
I've been to Malta and we had a good holiday. It was stonking hot but we did go in July. Valetta is very beautiful. it's not somewhere I would rush to go back to but my OH says he would like to go back. We went when they still had the really old buses but I believe they've all gone now. we also went over to Gozo.
-
That's interesting. We avoid July and August because of the heat and too many kids around.
I'm a history buff so would love to see all the archaeology.

Bruges was lovely, as always, except for the wind.
Have you been before? If not I would recommend the Chocolate museum and the Brewery Tour (Halve Mann Brewery), also the the boat trips. There are lots of churches and Museums and lots of bars, if you like beer. I don't like British beer much, but I love Belgium beer. The two best bars are Brugs Beertje and Garre. Garre is difficult to find as it is up a tiny alley so check directions first.
If you are into chocolate the shops can be very expensive so I always get my chocolate fix at the Chocolate Museum shop. You don't have to pay for the visit to go in the shop.
Avoid restaurants in the main squares as the are expensive and not very good.
If there is anything else just ask. I know some good car parks as well, if you need one.
-
Last night DH suggested using our camper van more this year but I kind of muttered that I no longer like walking to/from the shower block :-\ ......
-
Hi Shadeyglade
No, I've never been before.
Thanks for the tip about the chocolate , I have two daughters and a Mum with expectations, hahaha. We will definitely be doing the brewery tour and chocolate museum.
We are going on the Eurostar, so we won't be driving at all. It's tricky to know what to pack,. I am assuming the weather will be like here. I suppose layers will cover most eventualities.
Apart from frites ( that's a given, haha) , I want to try the local delicacies
I would quite like to see the lacemaking, but not sure my man will be up for that !

I know it's laid back there, it's also a mission to walk after you get off the plane.

Nearly booked ourselves for next week, but decided not to.....it'll have to wait for now..😠

Aww why Jill,MIL?

Did U read my thread about buying a camper van :-\ I did bump it .......... :-\ :-\
One has to factor in road tax and insurance which is a large amount on our Hyundai conversation. Also (do read the thread ::))
-
Another reason not to fly :o
A British Airways flight destined for Düsseldorf in Germany has landed in Edinburgh by mistake, after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly.
The passengers only realised the error when the plane landed and the "welcome to Edinburgh" announcement was made.
The plane, which started at London's City Airport, was then redirected and landed in Düsseldorf. WDL Aviation ran the BA flight through a leasing deal.
BA said it was working with WDL to find out why it filed the wrong flight plan.
-
Must have a duff Satnav.
He should take it back to Halfords. :)
-
Specsavers ? apparently the 'wrong' flight plan was lodged :-\ ........... surely someone should have noticed B4 take off, turning left instead of driving straight ahead ;D. As DH pointed out, they wouldn't have been allowed to land into Edinburgh had anyone noticed. Doesn't leave a very good taste does it :-\.
-
Well done. We bought lots of magazines about buying/selling motor homes, were amazed at how many private sales with few miles on the vehicles ;D. Once we were out and about in our small camper, we could see why. It is a huge outlay and we worked out that we couldn't spend the amount on good quality hotels ....... doesn't stop me dreaming though ;D
Once we get Easter out of the way we plan to get out in ours. Look out Bath, here we come ;)
-
Good for you two CLKD...
Get out and about and have some fun.....😊
Let us know what you get up to....👍🏻
-
Oh you are nosey ;D :P. :clapping:
Camper warning light went off and the mechanic couldn't find any reason to do an expensive repair so it's wait and watch. I have a list of what to pack as we haven't done an over-nighter for 2 years .......... lots of days out; and don't want to forget anything.
Bath/Gloucester Docks/Bristol
Dunstenburgh
Alnwich
-
Our one used to have a light come on too, same thing, nobody could find anything wrong & it never had any problems the whole time we had it.
If you go to Bath, there's a lovely site right beside the river and there's a lovely walk along the banks to a really nice bar/restaurant
-
Thanks that's useful. We haven't been to Bath since the early 1980s ..... camping at The Slab House Inn, it was so hot we had to drive round with the windows down :o ::). We had the cycles and fortunately entered Cheddar Gorge from the top
-
Crikey. Facial recognition at airports ain't working :o! Using cartoons on passport photos ......... a child passing through on her mother's passport :o :o
What happened to the Pilot flying to Edinburgh yesterday :-\.

Facial recognition technology is notoriously unreliable. The police want to use it but we will all be at risk of being arrested if they do.
-
:scottie: they've got to catch me first

A Ryanair attempt to make fun of British Airways on Twitter after a flight mistakenly went to Edinburgh instead of Düsseldorf has backfired.
Ryanair's official Twitter account said it had a "present" for BA - a copy of Geography for Dummies.
But Twitter users made a number of suggestions of books Ryanair could read, including "Customer Service for Dummies".
In January Ryanair was again named the UK's least-liked short-haul airline.
-
I fall off slippers so water + flip flops ;D plus I HATE anything between my toes :o
-
Nope ;D a quick whip round with a flannel :D
-
Ive used Ryanair lots of times and never had a problem. It's people who don't follow the rules that cause problems for everyone else on the flight causing delays etc because they're arguing with the staff and then because they don't get their own way or it costs them money they go running to the press it makes me mad.
And they have always delivered me to the correct destination.
Lanzalover x
-
We have only used Ryanair once, on a break to Dublin, about 13 years ago. Never again.
The plane was dirty. I don't think it had been cleaned from the previous flight. The attendants were similarly scruffy, tired and flustered.
I kept thinking that if there was an emergency what good will they be. :(
-
A bit like easy jet Lanza?you hear all these complaints, yet when watching their repeats of airline on tv,it's all these people who turn up late or who's passports expired or they've turned up a day late etc, then scream and shout at the staff, rules is rules 🙄
-
I've been to sites when there are printed signs telling campers 'do not walk into the showers with outdoor footwear'. Crocs seem to be popular.
-
I hate crocs! Sorry to those that wear em....😄
Can't you buy socks with grips on the bottom? I know they'd get wet, but at least you wouldn't slip over and break your leg!? :crutch: 😂

Hummdinger - how very sad for you tomorrow. Can you do something that will make you feel close to your mum? Xxx

Aww so sorry hummdinger 😞
I wasn't very close to my mum unfortunately,she wasn't a particularly good mother,so I don't feel very much on mother's day.
-
I'm so sorry Hummdinger,
I know when I lost my mom, it was heartbreaking at this time of year, so I know how you feel.
I've said happy mother's day to her, I know she hears me...
Just think about her, and she'll know and be with you today.....
Take care,....xxxx :bighug:
-
Strange for me not having to buy a card or a gift for the first time. Not a nice feeling really.
 I know how your feeling Hummdinger. I lost my Mum in 2005 & it's been hard today when I was listening to the radio as they had phone ins requesting songs for Mums.
-
So switch the radio off :-\ .......
Back to thread. Holidays. I have days-out planned in my head ;-)
Zoos, parks, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Stratford Butterfly Park, Crocodile World, beach if we get out of bed early enough ;D
-
Yep. This is a holiday thread so to talk of parents no longer here makes me sad and sad that people can't keep to the thread :'(. I don't need reminding and was trying to bring the thread back to holidays >:(
We have topics on Mothers Day so perhaps you could have a look-see ........ Fortunately?!? You really haven't been here long enough to make that suggestion Hummdinger.
So back to the Holiday thread ........ and Hummdinger, you jump on me what ever I type :-\ - maybe have a look-see at the Mothers Day thread?
-
::) .......... you jumped. Again :-X. did U see the appropriate Mothers Day thread yet?
-
I stopped posting on the forum a while ago due to instances like this one. I occasionally check in and here is yet another example of it 🙄
I feel nothing you said was inappropriate Hummdinger and very sorry you have just lost your Mum. Today must have been hard for all those who have lost their mothers and really, who cares what thread it's mentioned on? 🙄
I'm taking another break from the negativity.
-
So switch the radio off :-\ .......
Bloody hell CLKD :'( :'( I cannot believe you have posted such a horrible & hurtful reply. What have I ever done to you to deserve such a harsh response. I am speachless
This forum is not owned by you! I have been a member for a very long time & I am astonished that you responded like this. >:( >:(
-
I apologise. I was blunt and came over as sharp. As pointed out by another member. So I'm up to say 'sorry' in that my written word didn't come over as I intended. I can't point out what I actually did intend 'cos it looks like I'm trying to cover up :-\
It wasn't intended as negative .......
May we get back to the Holiday thread right here ......... and move sadness and sharing about Mums to the appropriate area? Then I'll creep back to bed .........
-
I think we are all a bit ****ly, at the moment. We are living in stressful times.
Meaning can be vague and misunderstood, on hasty forum posts.
-
:thankyou: I had a long hard look at myself in the early hours and realised that on paper, I have no evidence of empathy. Must stop pressing the 'send' button.
-
Even the emojis here are open to interpretation :) it's often unclear ckld at least to me if you're rolling your eyes at yourself or at the poster ::)
It's easy to miss-interpenetrate.
The thing is we are all menopausal or post menopausal women, with varying, fluctuating degrees of stress and anxiety. Spats are bound to happen usually with no bad intention.
If it happens take a deep breath and move on.
-
Has hummdinger gone?

Yes.
Totally and completely. Every post.
That usually indicates Moderator intervention.

Another one bites the dust 😏

I don't think she left of her own accord. Her profile is gone which normally means it has been deleted by the moderator.

Anyway - anyone got any holidays planned now the Easter Holidays are looming?!!!! Can we talk about sunshine or something?!

We're going away tomorrow but just to our little holiday home in Dunoon, come back Sunday.we don't have a big holiday until Xmas, loooooong wait😏
-
Nothing wrong with that Teresa, I was a single mum in a council flat when I was younger.
If you start a new thread, people will respond,I think the majority of women on here are very nice and helped me hugely when I was suffering anxiety and depression
-
Wow- that's pretty harsh, moderators! Don't think she said anything derogatory or offensive? Simply expressed her opinion..us that against the rules here? Or only if your face doesn't fit? ;)
There was a lot more to it than that. People aren't always what they seem.
-
Ha,life can throw us some bad deals Teresa,so,if you have single friends, you should go grab yourself some fun 😊
-
Back to what Hurdity said. Have a lovely time Jaypo.
We are off to Whitby for a week during Easter Hols but this time with our son & girlfriend. We decided not to go abroad this year as we couldn't decide where to go - I didn't want a villa holiday, I love going on lakes & mountains holiday but felt we couldn't go for more than a week & son would only go to one particular hotel at Lake Garda! So knocked it on the head. Next year is another problem as it's A-level exams and on it goes :-\

Thank you YG,you should have a lovely holiday in the mountains of Scotland,it's truly stunning in some parts,of course I'm biased 😊
-
I have sent you a PM.
-
To Yorkshire Girl enjoy your holiday.
Jaypo I didn't realise your holiday home was in Dunoon lucky you. My Mum is orginally from Gladgow so I have been many times over the years with her my dad and my brothers and sister plus various aunties uncles and cousins you could always spot us arriving anywhere when I was little as we arrived in convoy goodness knows what the locals must have thought !!!
Oh I've just rembered that's where I went on my very first holiday I was 5 months old and we had a lovely summer that year it was back in the days when you put babies out in the garden in the parm all day and boy did I have sun tan (pre sun care advice) I was the talk of ferry on the way over my Mums always horrified now when she looks at the photos (but bless her back then they thought it was healthy to have a tan)
I'm always more horrified at the size of me god I was fat baby but she and my dad both thought I was the most beautiful baby in world :) sorry I'm off on ramble oh happy days.
Have a good holiday
Lanzalover x
-
Aww thank you Lanza,it's funny because as you drive through Greenock and gourock, you think,oh my,what a dump, then 20 mins on the ferry and you're into the most stunning scenery you could imagine.do you know where you went in Dunoon?we're by loch eck,a few miles out,it just relaxes me and feel my batteries recharging.
Oh if we knew back then what we know now, I vet pix of me in a big old pram out in the garden, bare shoulders although I did have a rather fetching frilly sun bonnet on,🤣
-
I think, maybe, CLKD has just been suspended???
I don't know, just guessing....
Her posts are still on, so that's the conclusion I've come to....🤷♀️
We might go away, June or September....still in debate....
Fancy Lanzarote Jay?..😉
-
It's not just me that's noticed that then?
-
Yes, she has been quite stressed about it. She PM'd me just before it all blow up. Have heard nothing since yesterday morning so that's why I'm worried.
-
I noticed too, but didn't think much of it, I know she can hold her own...😉
Cazikins wasn't warranted, Cazikins has been on here for ever too, however, maybe in the wrong post at the wrong time.....kinda thing....
Cazikins, don't you go too.....😢
-
Neither Cazikins or CLKD have been suspended.
-
Thank you for letting us know.
-
Thank you Emma....👍🏻
-
Hi jaypo
Sorry to small to remember where we stayed but if I remember I'll ask Mum when I see her (meno brain allowing)
Did someone mention a holiday to Lanzarote 8)
Lanzalover x
-
Only said we were debating it Lanza....😂😂
I'm working my magic on him, well , trying to....🧚🏼♀️🤷♀️
-
Do you want to borrow my magic wand 😂
Lanzalover x
-
I have a list of what to pack as we haven't done an over-nighter in our camper for 2 years .......... lots of days out; and don't want to forget anything.
Bath/Gloucester Docks/Bristol
Dunstenburgh
Alnwich
Also: maybe the North Norfolk coast then drive back via Mum's Care Home for a quick visit. That would be B&B probably, 'cos the weather can be a bit iffy over there :D
-
Love Lanzarote been 3 times but will have to go back.
CKLD love wandering around Alnwick and enjoy the walk from Dunstan Steads to Craster :)
-
Come see me clkd,I'm near Bath & Bristol 👋
-
Flying to Rome in the early hours for a long weekend, really looking forward to it x
-
Not jealous 🤨
-
Enjoy! Do it whilst you are able to.
Tnx jaypo - Bristol Zoo but not the Suspension Bridge :o, don't like heights
-
I've been to Bristol zoo, many moons ago....😕
-
We went about 5 years ago - parked in the area along the road side as we have done for years and years and ......... the next year, people pulled up to park and there wasn't a hut to pay anymore. It turns out that a bloke had 'run' a car park un-officially for years and years and ........ ;D neither the Zoo nor the Council queried as it each thought ;D
It always amazes me how small an area Bristol Zoo is :o ::)
Easter next week :-\
-
Yes, Easter,
Rug rats everywhere! 🤨😆
On the plus side, my OH likes the old films they put on, like, The 10 commandments, and other films like that! (Can't think)😆
Oh well, that'll keep him quiet for a bit! After he's cleaned the windows and jet washed the back! 😂😂
-
:o what's a rug rat :o ? tourists?
-
Kids! 😂
-
Can't you find a boat in the Channel for them to crew ? ;).
-
Oh I wish....chocolate flying everywhere!
Eggs over board! 😂😂
-
;D .........
-
Off to Mum's for Easter :-\. It won't be a holiday ......... [see My Mum! thread] but hopefully any good weather will help. We hope to get out and about and perhaps Mum will feel well enough to have a few hours with us. We go to see her after lunch as she is busy with 'activities' from 11.00-noon. 3 hours seems long enough for us all .........
-
Deep breaths clkd,we'll be thinking about you xx
-
:thankyou:
-
Hope the visit goes as well as can be expected CLKD good luck
Just home from our weekend in Llandudno had a lovely time but boy it was cold.
Roll on June.
Lanzalover x
-
What's happening in June, dare I ask ;)
As well as can be expected: that's the trouble, I tend to project about what might happen :-\
-
CLKD Try not to think about it to much and go with the flow I know easier said than done.
Lanzarote In June but I'm sure you had probably guessed at least it should be warmer 😎

Hi all,
Back from our river Cruise to the Low Countries on Tuesday evening. A really full on holiday and busy all the time. Home for a rest now (ha ha ;D).
Anything exciting happened while I've been away.??
-
Morning Shadyglade - I went to see Mum and back ::)
Did lots of gardening .......... :-*
Basked in glorious sunshine :whist:
-
I am off on the following Romania trip in 2 weeks from now (11th May) https://www.explore.co.uk/holidays/one-week-adventure-holiday-visiting-transylvania-viscri-and-bucharest :)
-
Depends where you go and what time of year too.
-
Holidays must seem really cheap if you're on London wages, whereas if you're on 'normal' wages they're ridiculously expensive and on minimum wage out of the question. Off topic but how the hell do people manage on minimum wage down there?
I'd never thought about this before but my nephew who's working in London just mentioned it - guess he'll be taking lots of holidays now!
No they don't seem cheap because the cost of living is higher. My salary is pretty median for London. I don't say average/mean because the average is artificially high due to high salaries at the top. If I hadn't bought a flat when I did, I would still be a lodger in someone's house. A month's rent for a 1 bedroom or studio flat would use up about 70% of my take home pay before council tax and gas/electricity etc. I increase my available money by letting out a spare room to a lodger. That covers home maintenance/improvement projects.
-
People commute from where I live into London: getting up at 5.30, leaving the house by 6.15 to drive to the station ...... reverse at 6.30 p.m. :-\ some have to travel across London towards Surrey for their work .........
No holidays yet ..........
-
So its work in London but commute from oop North then? The mere thought drains one's energy. Only for the young!
That does look like a fun trip katejo - enjoy.
I wouldn't want to commute from any distance. I did commute from Kent for a very short period of a few weeks when I first started my proper job but that was late 80's. Since then I have had various temp addresses as a lodger before I bought my own flat in the early 90's and later a house.
Yes the trip looks pretty good.
-

Ah, I was right about the vampires than. Don't forget the garlic. ;D
-
Just booked a long weekend in Llandudno and taking Mum just hope the weathers better in July than when we were there in April.
DH is talking about a short break in the sun possibly Oct but nothing booked yet.
4 weeks on Saturday until we go back to Lanzarote not that I'm counting 😂
Lanzalover x
-
Look out for the wild goats up there ;D
Nowt planned :-\
-
St Lucia quarantines US cruise ship over measles case ............. :D
-
Aaawwwwww you said cruise 😆😂
-
Just imagine that Jay.....
Being stuck out, at one of the islands you visit, for another week or so, because some kid has come down with the lurgie....😂🤣😂
How bad would that be, stuck in a little bit of paradise for an extra week? 😡
Oh yeah, right, that would be sooo bad wouldn't it?
-
We were on holiday in St Lucia and for some reason our flight went via Antigua. Went to get back on plane I said to hubby that engine doesn't sound right and funnily enough we had to stay in Antigua overnight, took hours to get a hotel for night. Next day we couldn't enjoy, had to get hold of hubby's work to say he wouldn't be in, no idea when we would be recalled to airport, certainly wouldn't want a repeat. To top it all off got back to UK in fog, Gatwick had resurfaced runway & other didn't have equipment for landing in fog. We were last aircraft into Heathrow but had to stay on plane for hours even had police come out we weren't even given drinks & couldn't use toilets worst flight I've ever taken.
-
Another reason not to fly then!
My friends didn't like St Lucia - a sense of foreboding the whole while they were there so the cruisers probably ain't missing much.
-
That's the reason I don't fly,we had an emergency landing many years ago where I thought we were going to crash ☹️ Least if a ship goes down you've a chance
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE 😆😂
-
A right happy barrel of laughs you lot are ent ya?
Ships sinking, flights coming down, .......think I'll stay in bed.....😂🤣😂
Who said enjoy life while you can? 😂🤣😂
-
.... a chance of getting swallowed by a whale, speared by a shark, kidnapped by Somalian pirates :whist: ......
If one stays in bed the ceiling might fall in ;D. Or the door bell ring with that parcel you've been waiting for ::)
-
Yes exactly, you can't win....
If disaster is going to strike, strike it will, whatever we're doing.....🙂
-
When you're number is up .......... :o
-
Aren't we a happy bunch😆
-
 yep - :cancan:
-
Your a gonna!
Might aswell board that flight after all...🤷♀️
If the grim reaper is going to appear, .....appear he will! 😬😬😄
-
Yep. Even so, I tend to go out with DH when he drives so that I can be in the back seat :D
-
Think I'd rather have a dramatic death like being eaten by a shark whilst fighting off an orca than being splatted all over a mountain side in a million bits.😳😆
Again,happy holidays everyone 😆😂🤣
-
Why would you be splattered over a hillside ....... I've lost the gist here :D
Half a day at a time. Do what your anxiety allows! I'm OK if I don't plan too far ahead :-\.
-
Plane crash
-
Have you read the tale of the football team that crashed in the Andes many years ago ...... that would be my luck ::)
-
Yes....I've watched that film!
They had to eat the dead! They had no choice!
There's a monument at the top of the mountain for them....if anyone's interested.....😉
-
It's a very humbling story. Always 'what would I do'? They were Catholics which would make it more difficult. My take is that once cut up one had to forget they were human ...... in order to survive. FinL was a prisoner under the 'care' of the Japanese :-\ but they didn't turn to eating others.
-
Oh yes,I've seen the film and also a documentary, you can't say what you'd do really
-
No, agree.
It's the same in any situation, we say we'd do this or that, but in reality, we just don't know..
-
Just booked a cottage holiday for September.
Blickling, Norfolk. Should be fun. :)
-
Sounds lovely enjoy
Lanzalover x
-
Oh very nice, lovely part of the country :)
-
Just booked a cottage holiday for September.
Blickling, Norfolk. Should be fun. :)
I live just a stonesthrow from Blickling. You do realise you will be entering Brexit country don't you? The majority voted Leave here. 😂😂😂
-
Thank you TH and Lanza. I'm sure it will be great. Really looking forward to it. :)
-
norfolk is lovely! It is the 4th largest county in England and we have a fabulous coastline, we have forests, woodland, heathland, market towns and churches galore. We have no motorways and we have the fantastic Norfolk Broads. We have countless stately homes and royal residences. So I am sure Shadyglade will have a great holiday.
The WHOLE of this county voted Leave in the referendum apart from just the city of Norwich which voted Remain.
-
I'm going on a cruise if anyone's interested 😳😆😂
-
I haven't any plans :'(
Parts of Norfolk are lovely. As long as you can avoid that wind, straight from Russia :o. I have family in the Hunstanton area and love Wells, Holt [antiques, what's not to like ;D]. We spent our 25th anniversary in a small cottage in the back of beyond [that was 25 years of being together]. It was one of the warmest Springs on record and we walked along Cromer beach in short sleeves. HATE The Broads. Spooky :D. Have a look-see at the local information site on-line and make notes ;-).
I agree - holiday thread for hols., my Brexit thread for arguments ........
-
I've been to Norfolk, took my Rottweiler in the sea...
Or rather, I went in the sea to retrieve the ball, she ran off! 😂🤣😂
Cruise! Oh yes, that should be nice...😆
-
Just thought I'd mention it as I very rarely do 😆😂🤣
-
What: go on a cruise or mention it ?
-
Why,mention it clkd, you know how I don't like to talk about it 😆😂🤣
-
:-X
Now the UK over-all: I could sell sand to the Arabs ;D and coals to Newcastle 'cos we have SO much to see, weather allowing and if it's wet/snowing, there are museums, castles, antique shops ........
-
Oooh Jilkydoll you have a Rottie :)
I had one, a big handsome old lad, with issues !! got him fron a rescue centre ... no one else wanted him. He was probably the best thing to ever happen to me. Miss him terribly. Anyway, before I cry ...
He wouldn't go in water (wouldn't even walk through a puddle) ... I wonder if it's a Rottie thing ?!! :)
-

Why are you bringing this up on the holiday thread. I do hope you are not trying to pick a fight because that would be silly, wouldn't it. ::)
And why do you need other members to tell you when I post. That's very odd. I thought this was a forum for grownups not a school play ground.
because you said you're coming to Norfolk and we are famous for being Brexiteers and proud of it! Every place and every county have things they are proud of.
I don't know what you mean about having other members telling me when you post. No idea at all.
-
Enough!
Rotties are great, especially with tails - we could move this to the dog breed thread ;-).
-
I used to have a rottie, Pants....🙂
We've had three over the years, all very lovely, cuddly, and well behaved.
Don't think I can ever recall any of them going in the sea!
We've been to Weston super mare, and Brean loads of times with each one, but cant remember any of them going into water, come to think of it...🙂
Now, as for our Labrador, she didn't like water much either, and they're well known for loving water!!!
We have an Akita now, ....and no, she hates water.....😂🤣😂🤣
-
Sorry clkd.....we crossed....🤭😊
-
;D
-
- 10 points for me!! >:(
-
I'm going a cruise everyone ;D ;D ;D
-
SHUT UP WOMAN!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
-
Whaaaaaat 😆😂🤣😂😆
-
Are you? Didn't know that....😂🤣😂🤣
-
Oh,would you like me to tell you all about it? I know clkd is desperate to hear too 😆😂
-
Er......no! It's ok, I'm off to bed now....
Oh, is that my OH calling me.....🗣.
Gotta go, he needs me....😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
-
We go away soon - more decorating at Mum's :-\ and the odd visit to listen to her ........
-
Buy Trade Paint CLKD. Much more efficient.
-
;D. DH has mixed 3 pale yellows/white in a can - they were in our attic 'in case'. They'll do especially with the mood she's in, I expect her to insist on moving back when we get there on Tuesday :-\
-
Has anyone been on holiday to the Channel Islands. If so how was it and who did you go with?
Any info would be much appreciated.
-
I have been to Jersey but it was over 30 years ago but I enjoyed it very much.
We didn't go with a tour operator just booked flights ( although the planes were tiny then and the pilot was sitting at the front of the plane no separate cockpit!!!) and booked our own hotel.
Funny you asking the question as I've just been watching The Durrells what they did next and we visited the zoo while we we're there.
Lanzalover x
-
I've been to Jersey but it was around 30+ years ago as a child with my family. Loved it especially the zoo and the underground hospital - do remember my dad moaning about the cost!!
I have also been to Guernsey which I prefer being smaller and less busy again that was about 25 years ago but again very enjoyable. The beaches are gorgeous and I got the milk boat over to Herm walked round the island and spent time on Shell Beach - there was nothing there but I expect that's changed now!!
Both times took the ferry.
-
Thanks to you both. :)
My husband assures me that the planes are more substantial now, so that's a relief. I do get seasick but will look into that as well. If the crossing not too long I can cope.
I will get googling. :thankyou:
-
Have a look at their holiday guide on lien. I looked at the Isle of Man yesterday but they charge a HUGE amount for booking in person or by telephone so won't be going there!!
-
A deep sinkhole has opened up in a road at a seaside resort in Norfolk.
The two metre-wide hole appeared at about 13:00 BST on Saturday in Sheringham High Street prompting a member of the public to call police.
The fire service said it was about 16ft (5m) deep.
-
Oh, we get lots of those in Kent. Damn nuisance as the road is usually shut for weeks or longer.
-
I am counting off the days to our holiday in Spain in June. Only a week but I am looking forward to a good rest and change of scenery.
-
Lucky you penny 😊
-
Lucky you penny 😊
Thanks jaypo. We haven't had any sort of break since last June.
-
Enjoy your holiday PF
Only 4 more sleeps for me.
Lanzalover x
-
Wonder where *you're* going Lanza :D ;). ENJOY
We haven't 'been away' for 3 years but do have the use of Mum's property until it sells which we could use as a base if we weren't decorating it.
-
Lucky you penny 😊
Thanks jaypo. We haven't had any sort of break since last June.
Well make sure you have a brilliant time & enjoy every minute xx
-
How's Scotland looking this early in the morning?
Weather can't decide down here ::)
-
Drizzle or dreich as we say here, dull, low cloud, can't even see the mountains, heating on😏
-
Hope it improves for you.
-
Thanks YG 👋 did you not hear me shouting for you last night?haha Jill & I noticed you'd gone to bed 😁
-
You were obviously not shouting loud enough ;D ;D What post?? Found it & replied!!
-
👍
-
Happy holidays Lanza for tomorrow...
Have a great time....💃👙👝👠🕶
-
I went to see Aladdin with my daughter. I really don't care what anybody else thinks but the original Aladdin is and will always be the best Disney film EVER.
Please go and see it, it is sooooo good, Was so pleased Will Smith didn't do a copy of Robin Williams, but did do a very respectful nod to the amazing performance that made the original so perfect🧞♂️.
Really if you have not seen it yet please go, it is well worth the 2 hours of escapism. I was lost in chocolate and one of the best sound tracks ever😃 p
-
Sorry didn't mean my last post re Aladdin to appear under holidays. Can I put it down to being stupid, feeling pretty good and having a couple of JD and coke.
Sorry if caused any confusion. Oops
-
We all do things like that jillm not a problem pleased you enjoyed the film.
Today's the day yipee just got to finish DGD packing !!!
Lanzalover x
-
Have a lovely time. :sunny:
-
Aladdin went on a holiday though - on a carpet ? :D
-
Anyone been to Canada?
-
Yes.
What would you like to know??
-
Thinking of going to Vancouver, been there? If so worth going?
-
My sister lived there for 19 months in the early 1990s. Do you want to see bears, whales, snow .......
-
My sister just back from Canada, loved it
-
Thinking of going to Vancouver, been there? If so worth going?
Yes, most definitely. We did a fly drive, starting in Vancouver, then up through the Rockies, and flew out from Calgary.
Coast is lovely around Vancouver. There is a beautiful park. Lots of things to do and you can even take a trip in a sea plane.
If you get the chance go to Vancouver Island. We have not been there but friends have. Quite amazing apparently, with lots of wildlife.
We went in June so lots of Mosquitoes.
Canadians very friendly.
-
Mosquitoes like me :(
-
Mosquitoes like me :(
And me.
Depends when you go though.
Also okay by the coast and up the mountains.
-
What was the weather like in June?
-

Victoria, the main city on Vancouver Island, is very British. It's a nice town and the island is a lovely place to explore. Personally didn't like the city of Vancouver at all, and didn't feel safe there, but the surrounding areas are nice.
We preferred Nova Scotia, especially the trail that goes round the edge of Cape breton island which had amazing scenery. Halifax was probably our favourite city in Canada and it's a much shorter flight!
-
What was the weather like in June?
Weather was good. I think we only had one rainy day in the 10 days.
-
I liked Vancouver when I went there way back in about 1995.
Athabascar Glacier was lovely as was Black comb mountain where I saw a brown bear whilst coming down the mountain in a chair lift...bloody amazing.
If you go to Victoria I thoroughly recommend the whale watching trip. I wept. I was speechless when we saw orca whales coming out of the water & diving back in with a great big splash.
Not much goes on otherwise on the island it is very peaceful.
In Jasper I saw a mousse walk over a zebra crossing just outside the main town. Lake Louise & Banf also beautiful.
Amazing country & unbelievable scenery.
Cazi x
-
:thankyou: friends did a specific train ride across Canada including Jaspar and Banff ........ took about 3.5 weeks and they could get off occasionally if they wanted to explore a particular area.
-
I read that as....A mouse walked across the zebra crossing! 🤣😂🤣😂
Had to go back and read again....it's been one of those days! 🤣😂🤣
Hello Cazikins....how ya doing? 👋🏼

Hello Cazikins....how ya doing? 👋🏼
You Numpty! ;D ;D
I'm good thanks jillydoll - how are you?
Love reminiscing over my holidays. Went to some fantastic places back in the 90's. Sadly I don't get abroad so much these days as no spare money. The last time was about 5 years ago to Croatia.
Cazikins x
-
How's the dog?
-
Good to hear from you Cazikins...
Glad your ok...I'm good at the mo, don't know how long it's gonna last for, mind you..🙄
Canada sounded brilliant, and when you said you cried when you saw the whales, so did I when I saw dolphins, Christ knows what I'd do if I saw whales! My OH would probably throw me over board, saying, pull yourself together woman! 🤣😂🤣
-
That's pretty much what my ex husband said to me when I cried over the whales.
-
you putting that in your book? 😂😂
-
:-X :-Xmaybe jd, maybe not ;D ;D
-
Oh I'd be in floods if I saw whales,I'd love to go to Alaska, see them there
-
It's a thriller isn't it?
A who dunit....
Who pushed ex husband overboard, did he swim ashore, or get gobbled up by killer oras?
To be continued..........😆
-
That's why he's the 'X'? ::)
We go away next weekend .......
-
Where you off to clkd
-
:-\ funeral :-\ so we are making a weekend of it, staying in a large Hotel over-looking the coast. Going to see some antique shops in an area we haven't been to for several years as well as remembering my Aunt ..........
-
Oh yes, sorry, forgot when you said it was.Once funeral is over you can relax & hopefully have a nice time.......under the circumstances
-
Sorry to hear that CLKD. I know you like your antique shops is it near Brighton?
Not a thriller jd more of a "things to do before your 40" ;) ;)
-
tnx. Looking forward 2 the change, especially watching the waves from the Hotel balcony : remind me of those words when anxiety takes over :-\ ......... I will be seeing people not seen for over 30 years :o
Not Brighton this time ;-). That's on The List though ;D
-
Cazikins.....you are a mystery, my brains in over drive! ;D ;D ;D get writing!
Be good for you CLKD, and as Jay says once the funeral is over, you can relax, especially in that big bath tub at the hotel. 🙂...you'll be fine....be nice to see people you havnt seen for a long time. Although, I'm not keen on that myself, it's the anticipation, but once your over that, it'll be good....🙂
-
You hit it on the head, anticipation: what if I have a panic attack but have my emergency pill to swallow. I would love a bath tub that looks up to a glass window so that I could watch the stars/snow when lazing ........ ;D
-
Hate anticipation! Makes my breathing go erratic. 😡
Deep breaths CLKD, you don't need me to tell you that....🙂
Ohhh yeah, a bath looking up to the stars.....now that's a little piece of heaven! 🌌🌠
-
That would be the main idea if I built my own bungalow ;) - hopefully I will be able to look on next weekend+ as a 'holiday' ;)
-
Absolutely. It'll do you and you hubby the world of good.
He'll be there with you incase the anxiety gets too much, you can always retreat back to the hotel room...
That bungalow sounds lovely, baggsie I'm next in the bath! 😂😂
-
;D when we stayed in 'Kilimanjaro' near Dornie the water ran straight off the moors so it was peat coloured and sometimes ......... :o
-
Had a fab week in Lanzarote but could could do with another holiday.
A week with a 2 year old is exhausting although she was very well behaved all week DH did suggest putting her on the plane on her own on Saturday and us staying for another week he was only joking ;D
Lanzalover x
-
Glad you had a great time!
We've been away and back. Hotel was lovely, we felt rested. 1st holiday for nearly 3 years.
-
Well done Lanza,a 2 year old even a well behaved one is hard work
-
Huge cliff collapse on Norfolk coast caught on camera
Don't go on the beaches after heavy rain :o - it's spectacular though.
-
Glad you had a good time Lanza, even with a two yr old, can understand need another week to get over the exhaustion :)
-
whens the next one Lanza?
I'm only 5, can I come pleeeaaasssee? 😂😂
-
Think you've missed a digit off after that 5 Jill 😆
-
Alright then. 0 . I look good in a baby grow and dummy in my mouth. ☝🏼
-
Used to have those types of competitions at Butlins ;D
-
Is that where I know you from?
-
Yay,let's all go to butlins 😆
-
You are after the Red Coats :D
We went several times B4 we were married. Cheap holidays.
-
Last time we went, it was dominated with kids, who had kids.
All getting drunk.
Never again!
Used to be good back in the day.
Don't know what it's like now.
-
Clkd and me will take care of the kids 😆
-

At the end of the November, when it's cold wet, and dark, and no shops are open , it's all closed down for winter! 🙀😂🤣😂
Proper child catchers you two are, don't forget your horse n cart! 🧟♀️🧟♀️ 😂
-

Have never been to Butlins or anything similar, actually couldn't think of anything worse!!
-
We loved it. We could afford the train fare, a week away and no one who we knew ::). One isn't penned in, one can go out and about in the areas.
-
I have an effect on children YG I just look at them & they take to the hills,it's a technique I've been blessed with 😆😂
-
Trouble is, they head in this direction >:( :D
-
😂🤣😆 job done

I love my holidays and thought I was the only person to suffer "I don't want to go syndrome" just before I go ::) but I've discovered I'm not alone, it's quite common :-\ I really wish I didn't go through the few days when I wish I hadn't booked, because I know once I leave the house I'll be ok :)
-
Because I don't know if anxiety will take over I'm not better once we leave :-\ although this last few days I was fine. Go figure >sigh<
Mushyjam - R U ever home? Probably to do the laundry B4 you pack again?
-

So it's not impossible, keep the happy memory for future reference :)

Sadly it doesn't work like that.

Good for you Mushjam....👍🏻
I went to Cala bona a couple years ago. Only for 5 days, thunderstorm for the two days. 🤨
Was nice there though, and it was September....x
-
I would avoid the disco and dressing up! Not my scene and I am old enough and bolshie enough to tell them a firm 'no'. Team building NOT!
Make sure you keep hydrated and if you are too tired, then sit out. No one will die ;-) and in the Big Scheme ? If you tell them in good time then it will be accepted. Don't be wishy-washy about it, a simply 'not taking part' should suffice. Any idea where to yet?
-
We R so different ;D ....... the last time I dressed up was for our wedding :D
We have put a date on the calendar to visit Mum - hard to fit it in with MotoGP, Tour de France, sweep attendance, camper habitation check, housework here, decorating there ...... plus the gardening ::)
-
Argentina and most of Uruguay are without any power :o
-
Someone's in big trouble! 🤨
-
Last night of my hols in spain. Had fab time. Spotless hotel, great food, superb weather and havent even had a sleeve on all week. Didnt bring ipad and just remembered phone! Been to gibraltar too. Sitting on balcony drinking pina colada!

Starting packing tomorrow, flying to Lanzarote Tuesday for a well earned holiday. Finished work last week and had a week to unwind before I go this year instead of everything being all last minute. Got an apartment on my own for the first few days and then the rest of the family will arrive through the next couple of weeks so we"ll all spend some time together and hopefully see the sunshine every day. Got extra tubes of Ovestin, doctor overrode the computer system when I told them I was on holiday so all that stress now sorted.
-
Well done you and :medal: to the GP ;-). ENJOY!
-
Will do, thanks CLKD.
-
Have a great holiday Deirdre!! 8)
-
How lovely Deirdre.....have a great time....relax and unwind..... :great:

Im def jealous, on annual leave this week and hoping for nice weather to go some drives, loch lomond is on the list not sure where else yet. Also hoping to squeeze in a thai poltice massage (not had one before but it sounds great!). Got decorating etc to do at home so can't justify going away & OH is a homebird!!
-
Thanks everyone, you go and enjoy your drives Foxylady, the decorating will still be there when you get back. I usually do decor in the winter months and make the most of the summer.
-
Sounds like a plan!!
-
Got home from work at lunchtime to find DH has just booked a bonus week for us and youngest DGD to wait for it Majorca !!!! I know what you thought I was going say ;D Now I've got over the initial shock I'm really looking forward to it.
Lanzalover x
-
Do you know where in Majorca Lanza?
-
Have a lovely time wherever you go for your holidays.
-
Love Majorca
-
Me too,we used to go to Alcudia, used to be lovely there
-
Also like Minorca
-
We love Majorca as well, going back a third time next year :) Teenager loves all the old towns, as do I - Pollensa, Alcudia, Soller, Inca - great market, and of course Palma. Enjoy Lanza
-
Oh yes Lanza, lovely..
Been to sa coma twice, and Cala Bona......
Much prefer sa coma...🙂
You lucky devil, enjoy it, granddaughter will love it.....x
-
Good morning
We have been to Majorca quite a few times over the years first time in 1975 and we went to Magaluf but it was only a small resort then and lovely nothing like the resort it is now !!!!
We went to Santa ponsa for our honeymoon but again back in the dark ages and over the years we've been to Cala'dor, Puerto Pollensa, Soller and we had a long weekend once in Palma city.
When we were on honeymoon we did say we would go back to Santa Ponsa when we'd been married 20 years but needless to say we didn't so that's where he's booked although with youngest DGD with us it won't be a second honeymoon 😂. It will be interesting to see how the resort has changed over the years and as bonus week I'm not complaining the place we're stating has a couple of children's pools with slides etc mini golf etc and the most important thing a mini disco as she loves to dance 💃 the beach is only a couple mins away so she'll have lots of things to keep her occupied as well as grandad as she's a grandad's girl.
Lanzalover x
-
Well I think that's really romantic of your OH Lanza, bet your GD looking forward to it too.You might change your name once you come back.......Maj??😆
-
Have a great time Lanza,
-
Hi Jaypo don't think I'll be changing my user name we actually took her to Majorca last year, but still keep returning to Lanzarote still got 3 visits left this year .
DH can be romantic but don't think with a 3 year in tow he'll get a lot of opportunities
Thanks Dierdre enjoy Lanzarote.
Lanzalover x
-
Oh Lanza, sounds great....granddaughter will love it...
They love the mini disco don't they? Great fun....following mr bear or whatever around.

I may have asked B4 - anyone know much about Glasgow? I fancy a trip as I have a friend of my Dad's in Paisley so staying in the City would be an excuse to have a look-see. Then after a couple of days we can head Skye wards or into Edinburgh as DH hasn't been there ........... so, museums, art galleries, antique shops?
-
Foxy will help you out clkd, been there many many times we stayed in a holiday inn in the centre,Edinburgh is BRILLIANT,stay away from prince's street as it's like any street in any city, plenty to see and do there,it's very historical.Come and see us in Dunoon 😃
-
>wave< ..........
-
Hi CLKD, yeh I know Glasgow & Paisley, from Glasgow originally & studied in Paisley!! Glasgow has good selection of museums & a lovely art gallery, great shopping they say it's second to London!! Are you driving, train or flying up? The reason I ask is there are two airports and although both called Glasgow neither are actually in Glasgow, one is nearer Paisley and the other is in Ayrshire so a distance away which can be confusing for visitors. I have no experience of antique shops although plenty around the west end (hip, eclectic, student area). Skye is lovely, I love Edinburgh too, OH not a fan (too busy & hates trying to park there!!). When you hoping to visit? x
-
:thankyou: it's in the pipe line. HATE London with a vengeance but would like to visit North of our Border ......... love architecture. Languages. Scenery. We went to Skye for our 30th anniversary, well we stayed near Dornie and drove over the Bridge ..... we get to 44 years soon ::).
We would drive up. Don't do shut in.
-
Aww how exciting CLKD....hope you do it....I'm so excited for you, it would be great.
44 years! Well done.... :congrats:
-
Tnx.
-
Congratulations CLKD
Lanzalover x
-
Tnx - another couple of weeks and we can have :cake:
-
Baggsie a large slice plz.....🍰. ;D
-
Well deserved CLKD, big slice of cake. Dornoch is lovely part of Scotland. Glasgow & Edinburgh both got nice architecture.
-
Dornie .........
-
Dornie on Skye,my OH knows it well 😊
-
Nope - Dornie near Eilen Donan Castle ......... near the Bridge to the Island, on the Kyle of Lochalsh. FabULUS!
-
Ah right, been to kyle of lochalsh but long time ago!!
-
Oh yes,OH just given me a row, I thought he said it was on Skye oopsy,I've been on the glass bottomed boat at Kyle, was fab
-
You are braver than I am :o ......... what did you see?
-
Seaweed 😆 but they take you round an old wreck that's sunk from WW II it was scary to start with as the boat creeks a lot but it was really fascinating, loved it
-
I wouldn't go ........ I'm OK watching that underwater stuff on TV ;-)
-
You should be used to hearing creeks....that's the sound of our bodies now! 🤨. 🤣😂🤣😂
-
Would that be creaks even ? ;D
-
It would indeed! 😂🤣 and that.... ;D
-
;D ;D
I went on a glass bottomed boat in Jamaica our hotel ran them for free, didn't enjoy it felt queasy so stopped looking. Odd as I never suffer with seasickness!
-
Did U get the feeling that the sea bed was moving :o .......... I would worry about seeing an
octopus :-\
-
Did U get the feeling that the sea bed was moving :o .......... I would worry about seeing an octopus :-\
Octopus are fascinating to watch but eels ... Yuk, creepy, snakey, ugly give me the creeps ???
-
Into my first week in Lanzarote and what a wonderful week. My niece had baby girl yesterday and I'm so happy I was here for that, mother and baby doing fine. The rest of the family arriving tomorrow so lots of celebrations and two more weeks to go. Going to be so hard to go home.
-
Oh lovely Deirdre...... :congrats: :ola:
Enjoy the rest of your holiday.....🙂
-
Oh great Deirdre,what a bonus 😊
-
Wonderful news Deirdre. Weather pants here dry but cloudy & cold, I would give anything to be somewhere hot right now!
-
Another menopause baby :congrats:
We used to catch and eat eels ;-)
-
🤢🤢🤢🤢
Not along with mushy pea sandwich
-
:whist:
-
Never in my life have I eaten an eel and never am I going to
When I was a little girl,we used to live on my grandpas farm up in Caithness, I always remember him and my dad catching them, and how difficult they were to kill, that was me put off right there and then
-
 they wriggle long after they are dead ....... pulling the skins off is Hard Work
-
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Can you hear that clkd, can you'thats my feet running for the hills and away from eels
-
Dont think we can get eels here, but I'll manage ;D
-
Eels are endangered and it is illegal to catch them across the UK. That doesn't stop the elvers being netted as they return from the Sargasso Sea :'( so that the never reach the rivers were they were spawned.
-
That's lovely news Dierdre.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday you don't need eels with all the lovely fresh fish available in Lanzarote.
Lanzalover x
-
You manage on what's in the area ;-). I don't know whether I could face an eel on. my plate these days and certainly not squid or octopus :-X
How's the weather over there?

Have a great time Lanza :)
-
OH! maybe I could have my Support Stick Insect with me ?
United Airlines has cracked down on support animals, banning frogs, peacocks, hedgehogs, goats and more.
Then this year, it went even further, saying only cats, dogs and trained miniature horses could be brought into cabins.
Now, the airline says anyone bringing them on board needs a doctor's note.
The animals also have to be small, "clean and well-behaved", and they can't have their own seat or eat from table trays.
-
I had the best day ever, spend the day in Monaco/Monte Carlo with my oldest friends.
Oh how the other half lives🍸☀️🛥🚤

Yes Trossachs lovely too, suppose it's like most places lovely if you get the weather!! Are you going walking McKay Girl or just a nice relaxing break? x
-
I'd love to see that famous fountain, can't remember it's name now....🤔 the one where you throw money in????
Isn't that where Angels and Demons was filmed with Tom Hanks? ..loved that film....
Where's the Trossachs McKay ? .....never heard of it..... ::)
-
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs national park, covers a huge area, 19 munro's etc. Not seen Angels & Demons jillydoll. x
-
No, Foxy, Angels And Demons was filmed in Rome, well, that's what I was asking...😆
Now you've said Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, I have heard of it.....thank you..x
-
You'll need to visit!!
-
I've been up to Inverness, and past through Loch Lomond....and what's that place, ?
Er.....Glen Coe. Just stunning......mind you, it was snowing, and about 10 foot snow was already on the ground....no joke either....it was just beautiful...
-
Our holidays to Scotland in the past have all been in the Highlands twice to Dundonnell and once to Fort William, so it'll be nice to visit the lowlands of Scotland and what it has to offer.
-
Autumn is definitely the best time to visit Scotland,it is beautiful, loch lomond and the trossachs are fab, you'll enjoy it
Jill, once you get your bum up to ours,we'll take you there 😊
-
At this rate Jay, you'll probably be pushing me up with my Zimmer frame! 🙄
Can't wait....will I need boots, or will my stilettos be ok? ......😂
Only joking, every one knows you take your shoes off before hiking! 🤣. 🙀
-
Good morning jillydoll
i assume you you mean the Trevi fountain and yes we did visit it threw a coin in fountain and made a wish I also managed to slip on a marble stair down to the fountain as they were wet fortunately no harm done just landed on my bum needless to say I got up quick sharpe all very embarrassing
The place was absolutely packed with lots of local police around blowing loudly on whistles if anyone put a hand in the fountain or sat on the low wall around it to take a photo not exactly a calm soothing environment. But pleased we got too see it.
Lanzalover x
-
Didn't a handsome Italian dash to your side Lanzalover :o oh the shame. When I visited Milan at the age of 18 it was the hottest I had ever been, B4 or since. 3 Italian dudes offered to take a few of us girls 'round the back' to a quieter door so that we could go into the Cathedral. That was a sharp no! ;D
-
Trevi Fountain, that's the one......what? You can't sit on the wall and have a photo?
Every time I've seen it on the tele people are not only sitting on it, but I'm sure I've seen people IN it! Could be wrong I suppose, but definitely sitting on it! Maybe it's a new rule or summat, to protect it....🤷♀️....does look amazing though....
Sorry to hear you fell, as long as you wasn't hurt. What did you wish for? 😆😂.....I know, but everyone's thinking it....' wonder what she wished for?' 🤣😂🤣 ok, don't tell me then! 😂🤣😂🤣😂

It is to stop people having picnics and taking 'too much' time around the Trevi fountain as there are so many visitors each day.
-
The Trevi fountain is in such a random place. You go down some side streets and it's there. Did you go to the Vatican?
-
I'd love to go there...My OH has been to lots of places when he was younger, so he hasn't got the same interest as me, cuz he's already been to the places I'd like to go see...
He said most of them are not as good as you think they are...🤷♀️ Unless he's just a grumpy old goat! 🐐
-
I have a postcard and stamp from the Vatican.
-
Have you? How did you get that? Your not a secret advisor to the pope are you? 😲
-
I didn't go. A friend sent the card ;)
-
I'm not catholic or particularly religious but there was a feeling in St Peters cathedral in Rome that I didn't expect, it was special :)
I agree the Trevi fountain wasn't what I expected, I thought it was going to be in a large square or park ::)
-
Agree the Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps weren't what I was expecting.
Yes we visited Vatican City,Sistine chapel,Vatican museums, St Peters Basilica, and St Peters square.
As well as loads of other places
Lanzalover x

Been to Devon with the family, now off to Suffolk with friends.

Stop that crying NOW! 🤨. 🙂
-
Jillydoll I will join you on a trip to the moon anywhere where there's no risk of hearing that dreaded 'C' word!!
-
I have hated c.mas since a small child. Too many people. Too much food. Always poorly :'(
The best 4 years were when Mum took up with man we couldn't stand ......... then he died >:(
I would love to get away, however, yesterday I slept in the camper for 3 hours: woke, ate, slept another few hours. Rested.
-
My OH and I don't like Christmas's either, I did when my daughter was small, made it extra special for her, simply because I couldn't remember a happy Christmas from childhood
-
This weather today makes me want to go to the beach ;D ..........
-
Aww Lovely McKay G ....have a great time...
We always wish we could get away for Xmas, but we can't just yet...maybe in a couple years.
Xmas, since the kids have grown up, is totally different. Think my OHs working anyway.
Which I don't mind, cuz I'm off to the moon with Yorkie.....🤣😂....pack that oxygen tank Yorkie, I'll pack the nibbles.....😆😂
-
Give the dog a pill -
-
Jillydoll I'll make sure we have a tank of oxygen each plus a spare ;D ;D
-
When shall we come back Yorkie, before or after new year...? 😆 🤔🤔🤔🤔
-
After - not a great fan of NY - will need more oxygen!
-
And more nibbles.. 😆
-
After - not a great fan of NY - will need more oxygen!
I read that as NY (New York), I thought ‘what's wrong with her' lol
-
We use to go away for 3-4 days & stayed in a country cottage over Xmas .....bliss. No relatives just us 2 & the dog. ::) ::)
-
Hiya Cazikins.....now that sounds brilliant....I'd love to do that in Scotland. Our dog would love the weather aswell....how ya doing? x
-
We'll know if you've hi jacked our lodge Jill 😆
-
You'll be hundreds miles away, you'll never know. 😂 I'll tidy up before we leave. Promise 😂
-
Change the sheets please😳😳
-
Don't forget to refill the cellar, fridge and cupboards :whist: ........ beat the mats of dust, hang duvets on the balcony to air ..........
-
All that? ...I'll clean the windows aswell shall I? .......😆😂
-
Yes!!
-
;D
-
Good news only one more sleep
Bad news haven't packed a thing yet !!!

I think we have to do a Duty Visit next weekend. We are going to a show half way to the destination anyway so might as well push on and have a few days over there .
-
Blimey, not sure how you guessed that clkd ;D
How's mum anyway,dare I ask ???
-
You dare. But I don't know ;D
-
Have a lovely holiday Lanza x
-
No more Thomas Cook :-\ - but shouldn't the Company have been called in when they put forwards their figures in May? Should they not have offered holidays knowing that they were in trouble >:(
On the way to C.mas too :-\
-
So many people book through internet now, won't be a need for travel agents soon
-
My sons got to go into a travel agents...he's sorting out his best mates stag-do to Benidorm.
There's about 20 going! :o.
-
Maybe make that Anglesey jillydoll ;)
-
That's gonna be wild, hope he doesn't drink too much Jill 😆
-
Amazing when 1 learns that Thomas Cook began his train trips for people to attend Temperance Meetings. How many have been drunk on board since :-\
-
Omg, he will, I know he will! 🤬......🙀......they all look after each other, so that's a comfort. 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
-
We're off to Hogwarts ( in Orlando) for my 50s next week. I wanted to book Thomas Cook back in Feb as the flights were £400 cheaper for the family than Virgin. My husband had read there was a rumour they would go bust by the year end so after a bit of a debate I went with his advice. Soooooooo glad I did. Would have been gutted to have lost the holiday. Kids think we are going to Cyprus! I just hope this is one holiday I don't spend worrying about not sleeping and blind sided by my latest health anxiety!
-
Take something to take? ENJOY :foryou:

Lanzalover x

I'm fine thanks. Mum fell flat on her face a few years ago. The Consultant told her that the elderly are either upright or flat on the ground :o
-
Oh good,so you got through visiting mum then,I did read on the mum post, just checking you survived intact :)
-
Hellooo CLKD....👋🏼👋🏼 Back to your own bed.....loverly....😉
-
Got back yesterday from a week in Majorca which was fab with lovely, hot weather.
Where did you stay Lanzalover? We stayed at Cala Major near Palmanova this time but we have stayed all over the island in previous years.
Everything went like clockwork and no complaints whatsoever about anything at all. We went All Inclusive and only spent a little on taxis, buses etc. Hubby bought himself a new soft leather man bag in Valldermosa and I bought some CK perfume on flight home. So we have loads of euros for next holiday!
-
Good morning PF
We went to Santa Ponsa as we went there nearly 40 years ago on our honeymoon although back then it was lovely tiny resort. But not now we did however manage to find the hotel when out for a walk one afternoon and went in for a drink just for old times sake
We had DGD so went to to a complex geared up for kids children's pool with slides etc, swings slides zip wire, football pitch and a kids club, mini disco etc the place was like kiddie land never seen so many small people in one place 😂 She had great time spent most of the day in the pool while Grandma and Grandad lay on the sun beds as you say the weather was fab but it really wasn't a holiday for us but we enjoyed it never the less, and DGD didn't want to come home !!!
Last year we had a week in Cala d'or with her I do like Majorca it's such a green island compared to Lanzarote been about half a dozen times over the years but always had children or GC with us apart from our honeymoon.
Pleased you had a good week and have euros over for your next visit.
We're off to Lanzarote on Friday 😎
Lanzalover x
-
Back to our bath, TV and bed. Loverly ...........
-
Happy again clkd?😊
-
 :great:
-
Good. Nice to have you back....🙂
-
:thankyou: I do want a few days where I could sleep, swim, laze, read, sleep ..........
-
It's always lovely to get back to your bed
Lanzalover x
-
Oh yes, your own bed, think that's what everyone misses the most
-
Yes definitely, miss my bed, I always take my own pillow away with me (except abroad) mind you I had to buy a pillow in Zakynthos, as ones in villa were extremely uncomfortable!!
-
I'm the same YG my pillow comes on holiday too
You're not going to believe this but that's cruise booked for Xmas 2021!!! Told my OH I mighbe dead before then but he said he'd easy find someone else to go with him .......... charming >:(
-
 ........ like his Style :whist: but don't look at me, I was born on an Island ;)
-
Haha so was he clkd maybe you two are a match made in heaven ;D
-
I was trying to type the word 'heaven' earlier but couldn't remember how :-\
-
Ah don't worry about it clkd, you wouldn't believe the things I forget, simple words too,I just shrug it off these days, put a cup of rice into the cupboard today, don't ask ;D
-
As long as it wasn't full of bolognaise ;)
-
On AL next week, a few plans (gig, a menopause group meeting, massage, dinner with work colleagues, spent a fortune on cycling clothing etc - Aldi bargains! so hoping to put them in good use if weather reasonable!) x
-
Gosh you've booked for Christmas 2021 your DH is more organised than mine
Mines has just booked Lanzarote for March 2020 and I thought that was early 😂
Lanzalover v
-
We've booked Lanzarote for next August, if you want the same accomodation and go back to the same villa, you have to book from one year to the next. Its my son in laws 40th so the family have booked early to get the villas we want close together. Haven't booked flights yet, shall wait for the prices to come down.
-
Haha Lanza we live for our yearly cruise🤷♀️
-
Will there be any planes left in the sky :-\ ..............
-
We're going to Lanzarote next June. But my OH won't book anything until Brexits over with.
He wants to see the outcome first....🤷♀️
-
We booked our villa holiday to Majorca for Easter 2020 back in April/May this year. We generally book as soon as the villa companies release them. We were planning a holiday just for the two of us but son wanted to go on holiday while we are paying but this last one, not happy going at Easter, I wanted to go at end of June when he had finished his exams but all I heard from hubby & son it'll be too hot!!
-
Tell them you're going with us lot and leave em to it 😆😂 Majorca would never be the same again
We book this early because we like a suite at the back of the ship and they are the first to go,only two left for 2021 already!!!
-
Only one morning in work :)
And two more sleeps
Can't wait 😊
Lanzalover x
-
Same with villas Jaypo you have to get in early otherwise best ones go! Can't believe that for 2021 though!
Lucky you Lanza, have a lovely time but can I squeeze into your suitcase please ;D
-
It's terrible isn't it YG? I do think they hope there will be cancellations so they pocket the lost deposits 😡
Have fun Lanza,lucky lady
-
Thanks girls
Lanzalover x
-
See you in a week, off on a cruise to Spain and France :D
-
Yay, have a great time Two Hoots.... 😉
-
Oh oh,I see,TH is allowed to say cruise but not me? ;D
-
Cruise cruise cruise cruise cruise

The Bay of Biscay might be a little more than ruff ;)
-
Nooooo, don't say CRUISE.......🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Now you've started her off! 🤨. 😆
-
Excweeze me?!? I barely talk about my cruise that I'm going on for a whole two weeks over Christmas and new year to the canaries,Madeira and Lisbon 🤣😂😆
-
Are you packed yet jaypo?
-
Got back last Saturday from a week in Mallorca and it was a lovely holiday. Even more pleased today as I went to slimming group and only gained a pound. Very happy with that. We went All Inclusive and ate really well and had countless alcoholic cocktails and other drinks.
-
Of course I'm packed clkd, cases waiting by front door ;D
Sounds lovely penny, wish I only gained a pound after my cru.......... ;D
-
After ?????? What Jaypo? ......can't hear youuuu.....🙉🙉. 😆
-
(Whispered) cruise 🤭🤭🤭
-
Ohhhh, your CRUISE......🤣
-
77 days to go 😆 not that I'm counting or anything
-
Bet you wish it was only 7....🙂
-
CRUISE ???
I haven't anything planned .........
-
Not going anywhere in your camper clkd?
-
Days out. If we go away we spend the nights at Mum's property which needs constant care as well as keeping the garden there tidy.
-
Would you LIKE to go away for longer?or are you happy with your days away, I so miss our motor home, used to love travelling to new places, loved going all around wales
-
I'm OK with not having to plan too far ahead, not having to pack up or book camp sites. Can't bare the thought of walking to/from the facilities either :-\ much preferring ensuite with a heated towel rail ;D
-
Just park your van right at the door of the showers ;D
-
No, I'd like my own shower aswell, I can understand that. And toilet, although I take those wipes everywhere with me...
Days out are good...at least your always in your own bed at night, unless of course, your at your moms...
-
I never used to use the public showers,OH did, said they were always clean but I just used the shower in motor home,it wasn't great but a big no no for me using public showers🤢🤢🤮
-
Ours isn't big enough for ensuite ........... I would like to see camp sites with single shower/toilet huts, heated of course, for people with small campers. So that 1 can park beside one's own hut. We have an awning so could walk from there to the hut :D
-
I'm back :) it was nice to have a bit of sun BUT the bay if Biscay was quite bumpy to get there and back :( I'm sitting on the sofa and still feel like I'm swaying, it's always a sign of a rocky cruise ;D
-
Two hoots glad you had a good time. My parents paid for for myself & siblings to go on a cruise, Bay of Biscay on the way was flat calm & sea mist on way back it was force 8 but the captain took a different course to avoid the worst but it was still a 6/7.
-
Pleased you had a good time Two Hoots and saw some sun.
Lanzalover x
-
Welcome back TH,did you enjoy the cruise?who did you go with?bay of biscay is a nightmare, I just stay in my cabin on the way down but have found my sea legs on the way back
-
It's a strange feeling once on land ain't it :D. Was it worth the risk of heavy seas :-\ ?photos?
-
We went on Royal Caribbean Explorer of the seas, not our favourite ship, but enjoyed anyway. It was worth the bay :), better half was in shorts in Spain and family here had heating on ;D
-
Glad your back safe Two Hoots....hope you've a bowl by you on the sofa....🤢. 😆
Nice to hear you enjoyed it....when's your next one? 😉
-
Booked a celebrity cruise for next October and watching the pricing on one in June :whist:
-
Oooh .... do you gave to be a celebrity to go on it ? 8)
-
Maybe two hoots IS a celebrity pants 😳
Celebrity has got good reviews, only 10 weeks for mine
Sorry sorry ;D
-
One has to be careful though 'cos celebrities appear briefly - one might go cruising for 8 days but they are on board for 3 :o.
Better half in shorts 8). Did he emerge from the cabin though ;)
-
So do celebrities actually turn up ?
Do you know who, before you book ?
I'm presuming not George Clooney ;)
-
Look in the travel pages of the Sat. supplements and all the cruise types are listed. Including celebrity ones.
-
Of course I'm a celebrity, I was on TV a few years ago :) I was in a background shot on bargain hunt ;D
-
Lols. Major celebrity then. xx
-
Oh I often watch Bargain Hunt being filmed but never see me >:( ;D
Floating Butlins - love it
Cruise to see the Northern Lights was muted in this house in 2009 but DH thought that he might be bored :-\ and I don't fancy a sled trip although would be happy around the dogs ::)
-
Oh was that you? ;D
That's why we're now going with Cunard,it might be a bit more expensive, well A LOT more expensive but it's back to traditional cruising,no butlins at sea, barely any kids (bonus) P&O was getting very butlinsy, you know, young staff shouting “ARE WE HAVING A GOOOOOOOD TIME†“WHAAAAATTTT, I CANT HEAR YOU,ARE WE HAVING A GOOOOOOOD TIME†yeah, well I was,til you arrived and started screaming like a banshee 😏
Grumpy old woman alert ;D
-
If you don't sail during school holidays there aren't many kids on the ship, there were a few young children but we didn't hear them and only noticed a few pushchairs around the ship.
-
That's cuz they were all left at the port! 🤣😂 oh that's horrible, I love em really.....🤬. 😄
-
Jill,you meany ;D ;D
We only go at Xmas and new year TH,only time our business shuts, used to go mid year up to Norway, which I loved but OH was always having to sort work and staff out etc, couldn't relax properly so now just go the once but I don't think Queen Victoria caters much for kids,so we'll see,not that they ever bothered me much tbh
-
 sounds like Butlins .......... alarm call over the tannoy at 7.30 a.m. prompt >:(
-
Hi de hi campers(got to be said with a welsh accent) ;D
-
 :cancan: :party09: but I wanted a-lay in although in those rabbit hutches of the 1970s there wasn't much chance of that, I think we even had to walk along a wooden corridor outside to the loos :o :-\. I can't remember whether bedding was supplied?
-
Going to Llandudno on Friday afternoon for a long weekend 20 of us in total looking forward to it.
Lanzalover x

-
Duty Visit :-\
-
Oh :-\ I'm guessing you're not looking forward to that then :'(
-
I can go to the property without visiting Mum. DH has a head cold and I am too angry to meet with her or the Manager. So we will do stuff in her garden, go to the estate agents and probably visit his brother. If the weather is like today we will get a Lot Done!
-
Don't be away toooo loooonnngggg, CLKD, we miss you....🙂
-
:thankyou:
If it rains too much we'll be home sooner rather than later ;-)
-
Just a little warning.
For anyone going abroad via Dover or the Shuttle, from Monday onwards. Operation Brock is being implemented on Monday so expect long delays. I have no idea why this is happening or who decided, but there you go. Nothing makes sense anymore. ::) >:(
-
Probably due to transport arriving with bodies in? A tighter up of borders which should already be tight ?
-
Probably due to transport arriving with bodies in? A tighter up of borders which should already be tight ?
Nothing to do with that. Apparently this was planned for Brexit on the 31st. Unfortunately the Highways dept don't seem to have got the memo that it's not happening. ::)
Dover is the tightest port in the country anyway.
-
No communication there then ;D
All good practice ;)
-
No communication there then ;D
All good practice ;)
Um, tell that to the people stuck in the middle of it. :(
-
At least there has been a warning, unlike accidents on the various Motorways and deaths caused by 'smart' motorways >:(
-
Who decided these smart motorways were smart!?! The public raised their concerns at the start of them being made but clearly they didn't know best.......apparently >:(
-
Supposedly to prevent congestion. Using the 'hard shoulder' without taking in account the 1,000s that have died whilst parked up :'( :-\. Congestion happens after accidents/breakdowns, it's a face of Life. Shit happens but please don't encourage smart motorways .......
-
The hard shoulder was a great way for police and rescue services, the number of times lately I've seen them stuck in amongst traffic is unbelievable, yet they're hoping to make all motorways into smart ones,it beggers belief
-
Most roads are over-subscribed anyway >:( so how does taking away the hard shoulder - which surely is part of our heritage ;D - going to help!
-
They have been a real problem up here, and when there is an accident or a brake down and they can't always make it to a refugee area, highways put a red cross on the gantry signs but then drivers ignore them, and well you can imagine.
-
No one thinks of the MESS and trauma that clearing up un-necessary accidents cause >:(
-
I hate smart motorways don't know how anyone in their right mind can think there a good idea.
Had a good weekend in Llandudno although the drive there was appalling wet, misty and extremely busy ( start of half term week here) it usually takes an hour to get there from here two and half bloody hours on Friday afternoon :bang: .
It did actually stop raining Saturday lunch time and the weather on Sunday was lovely and bright sunny day.
Had a lovely weekend apart from a bit of a drama Saturday night.
We left after lunch on Sunday and the drive home was much better just over an hour :) .
In work all week ( two days all day !) then going to Lanzarote on Sunday can't wait 😎
Lanzalover x
-
Oh Lanza stopppppppp, you're making me so envious
Glad you had a nice break but had to endure the good old Welsh weather
-
Glad to hear you had a nice time Lanza...👍🏻
This week will drag for you, :( then you can relax come Sunday......how lovely....😉
-
Glad you had a good time Lanza. Just think in a few days you'll be somewhere that will hopefully be a lot warmer :)
-
Sorry but you will have to wait :whist:
52 days to C.mas :-\ - I've got that can't be bothered feeling again :D
-
I was supposed to be going to Lanzarote this week but my brothers coming back here now to stay for the week. Be great to see them but its much more fun going there and warmer.
-
Sorry to hear that Dierdre but it will be nice to see your brother.
Lanzalover x

-
Can't you cross in transit though Dierdre ....... brothers?

It'll be my OHs birthday whilst we're there too....🥰
-
Are you excited jill?im excited for you 😂
-
Well done JD, lovely to have a holiday to look forward to. We haven't been to Fuerteventura for about 20 years!
-
Yes I'm excited. JAYPO....
Thanx Yorkie, we've only been once, and that was just on the ferry for the day...
As long as the suns shining, that's all I care about...
-
Fuertaventura and Lanzarote are the best 2 Islands in the Canaries in my opinion
-
I feel a trip North coming on: we found an antique firm in Knaresborough and new book shop has opened in Seattle ;-)
-
Lovely jillydoll it's nice to have something to look forward to it must be over 30 years since we've had a holiday there.
But did go on a day trip around the island a couple of years ago from Lanzarote
Lanzalover x
-
CKLD Knaresborough is a lovely town, lots of independent shops & cafes.
-
Settle even - be a long way between Seattle and Knaresborough ;D

There's also a Washington somewhere :-\
-
There's also a Washington somewhere :-\
Washington, Tyne and Wear.
We used to shop in a mega store there, when we lived in Northumberland. It's where George Washington came from and you can visit the house where he was born.
-
Arrived 😎
Lanzalover x
-
Have a great time Lanza... :sunny: :sunny:
There's a HOLLYWOOD in Birmingham.....😉
-
Thanks jillydoll I intend too
Lanzalover x

Not Paul :-\
George Washington was at Sulgrove Manor too near Banbury. Can't remember whether he was born there or lived for a while ........
-
Dallas in Scotland 😊
-
Not Paul :-\
George Washington was at Sulgrove Manor too near Banbury. Can't remember whether he was born there or lived for a while ........
Sorry, I missed remembered. Washington Old Hall was were George Washingtons ancestors came from. He was born in America. I'm getting old ::)
-
Have a wonderful time Lanza.
I want to live in the Land Of Nod!! - yes it actually is a place.
-
In 1914 some of the most influential people on both sides of the Atlantic funded the purchase and restoration of Sulgrave Manor, the home of George Washington's English ancestors, as part of the centenary commemorations for the Treaty of Ghent which had established peace between Britain and the United States of America after the War of 1812.
-
Washington Old Hall is a National Trust house. Also home to his ancestors. Hence the name of the house and town.
-
I didn't know, as a lot of people didn't, that there WAS a place called Notty Ash....
I thought the great Ken Dodd made it up....🤦♀️ Who knew? 🤷♀️.
-
We have California here!
-
We have a Pratt's Bottom not far away.
-
We've a lower wallop ;D
-
So have I...🤣😂 quite a big wallop to be honest....😂
-
I need to put that on our NT list then Shadyglade :thankyou:
-

Home after a few night in London, saw Nadal losing his tennis match in the o2 yesterday. We walked around embankment and the Cenotaph on Sunday afternoon, saw so many people wearing their medals with pride :) before seeing the Tutenkhamun exhibition in the Saachi gallery, well worth seeing if you are in London.

Just spotted this TH. We are thinking of going. I actually went to the first one, that came to London. It was in 1972 and I was 16. Gosh I'm old ;D
-
Yes I would recommend going, some of the artefacts have never been out of Egypt before :) the exhibition is in Sloan square in London, it's an area I hadn't visited before :o very very posh :)
-
Haha. Just had a WhatsApp from my eldest son. I knew his partner was taking him on a surprise outing today, but it turns out they are there.
Tut exhibition very popular and sell out fast, apparently.
-
We are having a day out tomorrow.
Steam train from Paddington to Bath. Christmas Market and then back.
Have had to set the alarm for 5.30 though :(
-
Ooh nice I went to the Bath Christmas market a few years ago, be prepared for crowds ::) if I go to Bath I have to have Bens cookies OMG I love them
-
Enjoy ladies, sounds lovely. x
-
Bath is such a nice place, love all the buildings
-
Well Jay. It's the 1st today, NOW we are really counting the days off aren't we? 🚢🚢

-
Okay. Warm and windy but dry. :)
-
Sounds great, tyical wild, winters day in Scotland. x :'(
-
With you Foxylady. We are being buffeted by Atlantic storms here too. Think it is looking up later in the week.
Had a weekend in Dundee last weekend to visit the new V & A there. Loved Dundee. Waterfront area all done up
and nice museums/restaurants/friendly folks.
Wish I was in Bruges sipping hot chocolate...
Anyone been to the Bulgarian Black sea coast?
We had a lovely week in Bratislava last June; beautiful city (and pound goes a long way!).
Croatia looks nice but pricey.
Was looking at Slovinia but hard to get to and we fancy a beach holiday this time.
-
You are right Squeaker99, Dundee is our new favourite day trip. Not been to the V&A yet but will visit at some point. The town centre of Dundee has had a great face lift, there is a lovely cafe/coffee shop along from the uni called The Tartan coffee House, Perth Rd, worth a visit. We go there for lunch then fish tea in one of the fishing villages in Fife on way home, perfect day!!
-
They must've done it up a lot? Dundee was always the running joke with it being such a dump,I used to go there from Aberdeen many years ago and it was really awful,so nice to hear they've given it a face lift
-
Total revamp, roads have been changed etc, it's great now. I remember it being like that jaypo, inlaws from that neck of the woods so used to be there fairly regularly. x

We went to Slovenia on our honeymoon 21yrs ago now & how cheap it was, you could get a filled roll for 50p! We keep meaning to go back, as we love lakes & mountain holidays with all the beautiful walking. We managed Lake Garda a few years ago, otherwise last 8/9 years we've been on villa holidays in Majorca, Lanzarote, Greek Islands etc as our son isn't a keener walker, unlike when he was younger and he loved climbing the hills/mountains of Austria! We have Slovenia in our sights for 2021 going back to the same hotel. I agree with you about Croatia we would love to go!
-
Italian Lakes are FabULUS
Lake Bled is supposedly beautiful
-
Eruption on White Island North of Auckland ......... lives lost :'(
-
They were on a cruise weren't they :-\
-
Don't think so. It was boats or helicopters taking them to see the Island. Some had walked to the crater, never expecting it to growl and spit :-\. Talk about when your Number is Up! The helicopter has disappeared in a cloud of dust :'(
-
Omg it's just awful,my OH said there were folk off a cruise liner visiting too,he's maybe picked it up wrong though but yep, when it's your time it's your time
-
Royal Carribean Ovation of the Seas is the cruise ship, excursions from the ship were visiting the island :(
Another cruise ship, P & O Ventura has engine problems and is stuck in Tenerife while it's being repaired, apparently they are flying people home who need to get back, but the next cruise due to leave Southampton on Friday has been cancelled. A good point I picked up when reading about this delay, always take more days worth of medication than you need, just in case, and ALWAYS carry it on you never pack it, cases to go astray sometimes ::)

This is why I now prefer river cruises.

I have been to Slovenia, Croatia and Bratislava. Recommend all of them. I'd like to go back to Croatia and Slovenia. Bratislava was much more recent so won't go back yet but perhaps in the future. Did walking in Croatia and Slovenia.

Oh it's truly awful isn't it :'( yep TH I just read that it was Royal Caribbean.
Oh blimey, been on Ventura many times😳 stopped going with P&O now,off on Cunard over Xmas and new year 😊
-

Yes I liked Ventura, it's hardly surprising the ships get problems, they are constantly sailing with no maintenance breaks for years at a time ::)
My in laws like Cunard they've been with them twice, I've seen some lovely outfits in the shops this year that would be perfect for a more dressy ship ;)
-
Italian Lakes are FabULUS
Lake Bled is supposedly beautiful
It really is CKLD
-
My first & only cruise was on Cunnard on the QE2 just before she was taken out of service, my parents paid for myself & siblings and husbands but mine gets seasick & also son was in school. I enjoyed it as it wasn't a floating hotel and there were 3 staff to every passenger! They also made me a birthday cake :)
-
good to hear everyone enjoyed Cunard, our first time but have booked two more on Queen Victoria for xmas and new year,so I hope we like it,can't wait :hapij:
-
Ha,people on Ventura are getting 4 extra free days holiday in Tenerife & still getting all their entertainment, food etc,not so great for the poor folks who are having their 4 day cruise cancelled mind you 😏
-
What about laundry requirements :o
-
Don't worry, there are free washing machines and tumble dryers in laundry rooms dotted around the decks ::)
-
There's EVERYTHING isn't there TH,we met a lovely lady, who, when her husband passed, she sold everything and will spend the rest of her days on a cruise ship, she has everything she needs, food,dr's,medicine and she loves it,meets new people sees the world, and when the ship comes back to Southampton her daughter comes for her and she spends the day with her, collects mail etc,ok if you can afford it
-
I know a similar story - aged 75 her husband died. She sold up their large house, bought a small flat in Southampton area which the family use. Off she goes on cruises: everything is on board. Food. Hair dresser. Entertainment. Wifi. Hospital services .......... what's not to like. Cheaper than a care home!
She's now 81 and loving every moment ;D
-
I've heard similar tales of an American gentleman who is well known for spending most of the year on board :)
-
Good on them :)
-
Sad news from NZ - burns seem to be the problem. However, it was said in recent days that the crater was shuddering and could go at any moment. Pompei .........
-
Ive got a tour of Pompei booked next June :o
-
I think that one is silent right now :-\. History wouldn't repeat itself. Would it ..........
-
Hey girls - time for a new thread don't you think?! For holidays next year? Someone else's turn to start it ::)
Hurdity x
-
Haven't been on my holiday this year yet Hurdity :sunny: :gym: :clapping:
-
Nor me. Apart from staying at Mum's property on duty visits :-\
-
Awww clkd can you not go somewhere in your campervan?Dont have to go far, lots of sites open all year
-
We still have a week in Brighton coming up over Christmas.
Next year at Easter we are off to Majorca - not my choice - I wanted to go back to Slovenia - but teenager wanted another family holiday and his GF is coming. She has never been abroad and having to get her first passport.
-
Gone off camping :-\ ........
-
Majorca is nice though YG
Be exciting for her 😊
-
Majorca is lovely this will be our 3rd visit, just wanted to do a different type of holiday for a change!

-
Was in Lanzarote yesterday and it was fab,Tenerife today and so so hot, nothing a nice cold lager didn't fix though
-
Starting to feel lonely, everyone is off to the Canaries, just because it's warm and sunny doesn't mean you have to go .......
:whist:
;D
-
Oh yes we do Two hoots.
Good for you Dierdre a bit of sun and spending time with family will do you the world of good it's been a lovely afternoon here today 😎

-
That'll be Winter then? Did anyone watch Jane in the snow last week on a C.mas Cruise? My idea of Hell ;D
-
Soooooooooo warm in La Palma, I could live here I think, such a relaxed nation,I love em,not sure OHs conservatory business would take off here though ;D
-
Jane on again this afternoon ;D
>wave Two Hoots < OK?
-
Oh I love her,she's hilarious
In Madeira and sat and watched the folk dancers, worth a look on YouTube, they're brilliant
-
I watch until she starts singing then ........ ;D
I looked on a map that shows where cruise ships are, Madeira is the place to be, loads there, one day I might go but I'll be there in October instead.
I'll raise a glass to us all tonight, even those who have abandoned us to sit in the sun
-
Has anyone :-\ ........ gone away :-\. ;D
-
We need to renew our passports. They expire on 1 March.
No idea where I fancy going this year but we will definitely be going somewhere!
To the ladies who are in the Canaries now, have a great time!
-
Thank youuuuuuuuuu, heading towards Lisbon now,the weather already a few degrees cooler
-
You'll need layers on when you get back here ::)
-
You will. It's chilly today.
-
You'll need layers on when you get back here ::)
it's not bad at all for January CLKD. there were families sitting on Cromer beach today albeit wrapped up and a few windsurfers in the sea. 500 people were doing the New Years Day swim at Sheringham and I have known MUCH colder January's than this. We even saw the sun today.
-
There are smaller cruises: 100/200 and no Captains' table. ;). One can stay in the cabin too.
-
JaneMacD can be quite funny but I can't stand her kind of music.
She's put me off cruising - far too many people in one place for my liking. The captain's table would be my idea of hell ;D
I love a cruise holiday, if I'd watched the programmes first I don't think I'd have tried it :o
-
I do love Jane McDonald's programme but I'm the same, don't like her singing
Oh noooooo I'd NEVER sit at the captains table, load of pretentious twoddle,we were invited to a cocktail party, which we did go to as the captain gives a speech which is usually good and there were two queues, one to the bar and one to shake the captains hand!!!! I'm sure you can all guess which queue I joined ;D
-
We did a mini cruise on the Nile a few years ago which was great as very relaxed. (Although seeing armed guards protect the boat when we went under bridges was a bit scary).
We have just booked Porto city break for June. Great flight deal via Ryan Air. We liked Lisbon so thought we would give another Portuguese city a try. Nice to have something to look forward to in this gloomy wet weather.
-
Crikey - flying :-X
jaypo - what that on this Cruise ......... you went to shake the Captain's hand? :whist: No
-

Porto is a really nice City. It's as nice as Lisbon, albeit a bit more sprawly
-
Eh no funnily enough clkd, the bar beckoned 😂😆
Went to Lisbon today, was wonderful, lots of shopping 😊
-
Busy? Historic? C.mas shopping :whist:
-
I love Portugal, would love to go back. Unfortunatley too many things needing doing in the house (dishwasher broke new years day, typical!) to squeeze a holiday in! Happy hols though for those already away enjoying themselves in the bar queue!! x
-
I can manage without a dishwasher. For years I said it wasn't something I required. Then we began doing sports away from home, coming back really late to a pile of crocks. So I changed my mind ;D. Now on my 2nd.
-
This is the first house we've had one in and it's lasted almost 14yrs so can't complain really!
That's the good thing about holidays, no planning meals, cooking & washing up. x
-
I can at least watch the birds from the kitchen window whilst washing up. Sometimes, even for 2 of us, I have the washer going as well as running water into the sink ::)
