I'll start it off
Will be in Lanzarote over New year.
Also booked to go end of Feb for 10 days 😎
Lanzalover x
-
Week in Dorset in April (birthday), and river cruise to Switzerland and Germany in June.
-
Champagne on the flight at New Year then?
-
fuerturventura in June. For OHs birthday..
-
Cruising Round the canaries over Xmas,Madeira for Hogmanay and then Portugal on the way home
-
No champagne (don't actually like it)but a few G&T's will definitely be drunk ;D
Lanzalover x
-
YOU DONT LIKE CHAMPAGNE!!!!???? ;D
-
Surprisingly I don't also don't like prosecco either it's the bubbles.
I don't drink any fizzy soft drinks either.
Lanzalover x
-
I hate prosecco. It's like an alcopop.
Give me a good wine or a G&T any day.
-
I'm obviously way more refined than you then Lanza ;D ;D please don't tell Jill I said that ,she might tell you the truth ;D
-
When we went on a long haul flight a couple of years ago, all the drinks were free. I had a few drinks (they were free, couldn't say no could I), but there was a couple who had about 10 glasses of Champagne, they just kept asking for more. Nothing like getting your moneys worth.
-
Snap Shadyglade are we twins ;D

Whaaat? You obviously haven't drunk a good one then. Cheap wines of any sort are ugh - and much of the prosecco doled out is just that - and yes alcopop yuk - because the production method makes it cheaper at the lower end. At a wedding I attended recently prosecco was served and it was delicious! No alcopops at all!
Lanzalover - G and T has bubbles!!!! ;D
Holidays - off to Spain for a week in March....can't wait! Long time ahead though..
Hurdity x
-
Oh you were on that flight littleminnie?Shouldve come over and said hello ;D ;D ;D
-
Oh I wondered if that was you. ;D If it was you can handle your alcohol!!
-
Champagne - the best remains in France ;D
Nowt planned but have ideas :whist: which might well involved Sealyhams ;)
-
Ha ha the bubbles in G&T are different they aren't fizzy ;D
Lanzalover x
-
Yes, I'm afraid to say Jaypo is sooo refined, she is the Queen of Refinery.... oh noooo, look at my NOSE...➡️ 🤥. HEELLLPPPP...........😂

Are you getting a puppy
-
Hey hey hey CLKD......are you, are you? Tell us! Pleeaaasssssseeeee....
-
Nope, with Mum in care and with This Weather a dog isn't on our list of requirements - I am supporting Sealyhams which are a rare breed. I may go out with a pack in the Spring ........ anxiety allowing ;-)
However: Scotland have voted to increase rent/camp site charges ......... the Council is complaining that visitors are apparently causing more rubbish, more necessity to clean the streets, more ........ so they have to charge visitors. However, in England Councils charge businesses and service industries rates on properties: I could go on ......... so I need to get North B4 the tax is put on accommodation ;-)
-
Next best thing, make friends with a pack, less work :)
-
;D. yep. Less muddy paws. Less hair. No Vet's bills.
-
Surprisingly I don't also don't like prosecco either it's the bubbles.
I don't drink any fizzy soft drinks either.
Lanzalover x
I don't drink anymore but I used to like the odd glass of prosecco.
I'm with you Lanza I don't drink any fizzy soft drinks, they just make me feel full so then I can't eat a meal!
Ohh and we are booked to go on a villa holiday to Majorca at Easter, we have also booked a cottage in Cumbria for Feb/Mar time :)
-
Yeeaaahhh well done Yorkie..😉
-
Cumbria is lovely in fine weather.
-
It's 2020 now - here's the new thread! :)

Can I join in please?
My chap and I want a holiday somewhere in the world but cannot decide where.
We both want to see Iceland but I really want to go somewhere exotic too.
Any ideas are very welcome!
Yorkshire Girl, we went to Pollenca last Huly. We booked a villa. We loved Mallorca. Very beautiful and not at all tacky. Gorgeous!
We love Mallorca too. We have been countless times and stayed all over the island and never had a bad holiday. We have been to Malta and Gozo, Gibraltar, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Croatia, Tenerife, Corfu, Ibiza, Menorca and when we're not sure where to go we say “let's go back to Mallorca.†🙂. About 4 hours flight is my maximum!

I'd love to go to Iceland too but my husband is not so keen - also is putting his foot down about flying too far these days - re the climate - but I haven't really travelled very far afield and would still like to explore even while respecting the planet....
You can't beat continental Europe if you haven't explored it thoroughly yet (which I haven't!). Do you want spectacular landscapes, interesting old towns, fishing villages, dramatic coastlines, remote mountains or what? Walking, climbing, exploring or sunbathing holiday? It's fun trying to choose!

-
Scotland - most of it is lovely. Do avoid the midge season.
Wales - lots of history, scenery, honey ice cream.
England - we love Northumberland; Ambleside, Rydal Water, Helvellyn
Lots of museums across the UK if weather turns wet. Plenty of beaches or strolls by canals/rivers; all due to hour economical history. Ironbridge? Bristol, Bath.
North Norfolk coast - a bit wild and woolly ;D
A city break means not walking far. Norwich, Cambridge, Oxford ........
Cathedrals - the UK is full of 'em. Most have good towns built around them.
South of England: we love Brighton, Hove, Rye, Chicester; Clovelly ........... tell me what you like to do in your spare time and I can sell you somewhere in the UK. ;)
I have looked at Torquay ............ I could do with a week watching the waves from a posh balcony ;D with room service.
-
Dramatic is here in quiet places ;-)
I spent 3 hours on Biarritz beach in the 1980s that was long enough ;D
-
CLKD, the Norfolk coast is on my doorstep.
I loved Cornwall when I lived there. Scotland is fabulous. I'm from Wales, so I have been there enough times.
I really want to go to Iceland. And back to gorgeous Mallorca.
Anyone here been to Panama?
I am just a few miles from the North Norfolk coast and wouldn't live anywhere else. Norfolk has heathland, woodland, huge deserted beaches, big skies, loads of small market towns, beautiful villages, no motorways and visitors tell me it's how most places in England used to be. Unchanged.
When our kids were small we camped in Wales and loved it, Scotland before we had the kids, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Kent, Cornwall, Suffolk, Isle of Wight, new Forest and my late inlaws lived in Torquay so we had loads of Devon holidays.

Iceland is amazing. You only need a couple of nights. One day to do the Blue Lagoon and another to do a round island tour to see the geezers and waterfalls. Not as expensive to fly there and stay there as you may think.
We have had some great little city breaks in Europe recently:
Bratislava (capital of Slovakia. Beautiful on the Rhine. Very walkable and cheap as chips).
Gothenburg - a lovely garden city, lots of parks. Ferrys out to islands. Was hot in June.
Valencia - My favourite city in europe I think. Walkable, great cafe/culture/beach. Ditto Lisbon.
Was looking at Bulgaria for October but hubbie not keen....
Best 'hot' weather holiday was Abu Dhabi - hotels are great value for money and lots to do aside from the beach. It
is much cheaper than Dubai and not as ' full on' with Brits abroad.
-
Our holiday was fab,all round the canaries then Madeira and lastly Lisbon,I'd love to go to Iceland though
-
Home now jaypoo - all that washing ;) ::)
I expect that the bush fires in Oz will kit tourist trade hard. As will the continued upheaval in the Middle East :-\

We looked at Bulgaria but decided against it as reviews (and friends) say it's basically wall to wall tat! It has a high crime level too with pick pocketing gangs etc. My friend said they just stayed in the hotel all the time and that was OK if all you want to do is sunbathe. Not for us!

Sorry your holiday is over :-\ I hope you have lots of happy memories.
Did you like the ship ? I'm always keen to hear of cruising experiences :)

My son had things taken out of his luggage on a trip to Bulgaria.
He said going to the beach after the sun goes down is a definite no no.
-
Glad you had a good time Jay. 😊
You didn't bring the butler home with you did you? Put him down woman! 😜😜. 😆
-
you & your men in uniform again!!! :D
-
Uniforms and bathrooms are definitely Jillys thing. ;)
-
;D ;D Never a truer word spoken littleminnie
TH it was fantastic,Cunard definitely treat you like royalty, back to the old style cruising, think we were possibly some of the youngest on board but that doesn't bother me,I love listening to older people's story's etc.
-
We really enjoy chatting to the crew on our last cruise our waitress was Chinese, we asked her to write her name in Chinese for us to see, omg it was so beautiful :) she was a newish member of staff, we asked her about her home and she would ask us :)
There was also a lovely waitress in a bar from Peru, where else would I meet someone from Peru to have a chat with ;D
-
Our waiter was from Mumbai and we had such a laugh with him,he said he wished all guest could be like us,think he meant common ;D ;D but he showed us pix of his one year old son and how in Hindu the whole family have a say in what to call the child, just felt a bit sad he'd missed his first steps 😢
-
Yes it's difficult to be away so long but they can at least keep in contact with Skype, some get very excited when they say they are on leave soon. We are always friendly with the crew but it's not always that way :-\
-
I love learning about other cultures. :-* 'cos I'm nosey :whist:

Yes same here, a cruise is the perfect place the crew are from all over the world. On some ships the crew wear name badges and a flag of their country, perfect ;D

Enjoy your holiday jillydoll, you deserve it.
Make sure you have a few "dinky poos" :parti:, relax & let the world go by.
-
Aww thanks Cazikins.
Yeah can't wait. I'll only have a couple drinks tho, I'm mad enough as it is! 😂🤪
Just noticed the time of your post cazi. You been out on the razzel again...? 🤪🥴
Thanx Lanza. It definitely is....x
-
Sounds lovely jillydoll...have a great time, have you started counting down how many sleeps? x
-
Why is cazikins telling you to have a dinky poo Jill 😂😆🤣😆😂 ;D ;D ;D
She's definitely been out on the lash again ;D ;D
-
So, that's why you're called Lanzalover ;D
I haven't been on holiday for five years. I have a phobia of leaving the town where I live, and also of flying. However, I discovered that you can take motorbikes on the ferry at Newhaven - well, his bike, as he's got a big one (oooo er missus). Going to get a passport (last one expired about 20 years ago) and try for Paris in the spring time. If there's an emergency, we can be home in a few hours - our adult son has a volatile and life threatening condition, so the phobia isn't entirely unfounded.
-
Why is cazikins telling you to have a dinky poo Jill 😂😆🤣😆😂 ;D ;D ;D
She's definitely been out on the lash again ;D ;D
What can't a menopausal have a drink on a Friday night, stay up late, watch rubbish TV & pop on here for an overdue catch up. Then all her mates take the p**s out of her. ;D ;D ;D. I know you both miss me really xx
-
Haha we do we do cazikins, you know you're liked when we take the P
-
If you don't want to travel ElkW why not have days out, taking jimjams in case you find somewhere for an over-nighter?
-
Cazikins has known for ages I only have dinky poos, I'm a lady don't you know! 🤣😂
-
Your a lucky girl ElkW, having an OH with a big en. I'd be on it and riding like the clappers I would. 😂🤣

-
He's worn out on the window ledge. He pleaded with me, NO MORE PLEASE! 🤣😂🤣
He couldn't even raise a cock a doodle do, this morning! 🤣😂
-
No, Foxy, because I don't normally have sugar in my coffee, ( I've always had saccharine)
I've started to take two sugars in it! Only because I'm fed up of crashing, and I thought maybe it could be sugar related.
It seems to be working at the mo, although it could be it's sending me more crazy! 🤪🤪🤣😂
-
Ah I see. I used to always have sugar in my coffee thought I would never manage without but been maybe 5yrs now just have it milky! Thought you were going to tell me you had pancakes with syrup, fresh fruit etc all kinds of yummy things!! I'm waiting for OH getting up and it will be 2 boiled eggs, toast and tea for us ;) .
-
Sounds good Foxy. I'm hungry now. May I join you? I'll bring my own eggs! 🤣😂
-
Your welcome to, if you bring decent weather with you?!! x
-

-
I smell of roses thank you very much 💨 🌹🌹
Was ok thanks foxy but today?blimey thought our lodge was going to end up in the loch,it's like a hurricane
-
She blew the windows out once. Again her OH to the rescue. 😂🤣
Yeah, she had that problem for ages now. Poor thing. 🤷♀️
She's soooo gonna kill me!
-

-
You betcha, just been out with the two little dogs, took them all their time keeping their paws on the ground :o
-
oh poor things, I can imagine. It's horrible when it's like this although thankful the rain has stopped. How long are you up for? Any plans? x
-
Up until Sunday,no plans really,we'll go out for lunch and I love walking the hills(depending on the weather)
-
She can let rip there, no one will hear her!
Unless she's on top of the mountain of course. 🤣😂🤣
-
Hahaha it would echo all the way to foxy ;D
-
Yeh, myself & friend have had to take a break from Thursday night walks, but fingers crossed the wind dies down. If not then it will just have to be a chat & coffee!!
Enjoy your rest & I hope your 'problem' sorts itself!! ;D ;D
Jillydoll, they might think it's a yodeler!!!!
-
Well my OH does say I speak out of my a@#e ;D
-
She does go climbing in her Lederhosen. When she wants her OH, she yodels at the top of the mountain....🤣😂🤣
-
Yodelayheehooooo 🤣
-
Told you! 😆.
-
Now I have 'the lonely goatherd' ear worm ;D
-
Far on a hill was a lonely goat herd yodelyodelyodelyoheehooo ;D

-
Julie Andrews, eat your heart out! 😂🤣
-
Don't anyone call mountain rescue though :o :D
-
It's ok! They'll know it's Jaypo? ...so they'll just leave her.
She keeps all the animals safe with her singing.
They all sit round a camp fire, and she belts out Hakuna Matata......🤣😂
-
Yep,whilst holding Mitzi above my head 😂😆🤣 ( I have actually done that🤣)
-
We had planned to go out for the day to a new antique centre 2 hour's drive from us ........ however. We slept until 9.00 so decided to go tomorrow ::)
-
Yep,whilst holding Mitzi above my head 😂😆🤣 ( I have actually done that🤣)
I might have missed it but is Mitzi a dog ? Now lifting her above your head if she's a yorkie :) but if she's a St. Bernard :o
-
;D ;D She's a Great Dane.......
Nah she's a tiny poodle cross, good upper body work out though
-
I don't know who I feel sorriest for your OH or Mitzi!! x ;D
-
As long as Mitzi doesn't get sick when being lifted ;D
-
Was thinking of you during training session today in relation to air pollutants!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Glad I have such an effect on you ;D ;D
OHs never had it so good ;D
Haha my old boxer was once sick in my hair, yes I've had a strange life ;D
-
She didn't like being lifted up either than ? ;D
I would like to travel more in the UK this year. Anxiety allowing.
-
Dunoon very nice :)
-
I recommend the Builth Wells antique fair, nice stroll around and beautiful setting, I also enjoyed the Malvern flower show, they had antiques, food an flowers, lovely day out, anxiety permitting CLKD :)
-
Watching BBC1 - a device to detect bed bugs in Hotels - are these critters such a problem :-\ :o. Problem is the 'big brother' aspect could be >searching for word here< :-\. exploited?
Off at the end of the week. Change of scenery but it won't be a holiday ::) but I intend to have more days out ;)
Did the Malvern Autumn Show years++ ago. Stayed overnight in an old house with good view. Forget about the Builth Wells fair, must put the date on our calendar. :thankyou: ......... however, should it clash with le Tour ;D
-
Yes, you must have more days out CLKD. Without a doubt ....
-
Does anyone live in Great Britain ? ;)
Had a trip out yesterday for about 4 hours
-
😭 last day today.
Coming home tomorrow.
Had a great time tho.
Great weather too.
Back to cold weather now. 😢
-
It's Winter ;). Put another layer on?
-
I?ll be the one wearing the duvet! 😂
-
I have a lovely cape made of mohair - it's really warm but bloody useless as a cape ;D as it doesn't fasten. Wrapped round shoulders it is great though.
-
I?ll need that tomorrow when I come home. 😩
-
I'll lend it you ;)
-
Thanx. 😉
-
?5 per hour OK?
-

-

-
Think the rest & be thankful road partially closed again, another landslide :(
-
Oh! There's a message there?
-

-
You're off again in June jill,not long😊
-
Yeah, can't wait, might be a little bit too hot for me in June/ July.
Will HAVE to make sure my dry roasted peanuts are well and truly covered! 🤣😂
It gets very painful you know...😩
-
Oh yes,my OH was enquiring after them ;D
-
You'll be fine! Whitstable ? Kent ? We were watching a programme yesterday which went to Rye ....... we loved it but it was many years ago.
-
Presuming I'm alive ;) booked a family holiday in Whitstable in August.Havent been there since the children were little
You will find it very changed Teresa. Lots of very nice small shop etc., Lost a lot of its shabbiness but more expensive too.
Sea food always excellent.
-
I have to go away this week. Not a holiday :-\ ........ have no idea when I will be back :-X
-
In the van clkd?
-

We're supposed to be going to Lanzarote a week on Saturday but it's been on off over the last few weeks due to various issues but DH has now decided we're going no matter what as we both need a break. But I'm not convinced we'll actually get away but fingers crossed at the moment.

Just off to do my packing now and get to bed as we've got to get up at 4am !!!!
Lanzalover x
-
Yayyyy Lanza your going! :ola:
Good old hubby came through in the end!
Have a great time....xx
-
Don't shake hands with anyone and avoid others who might be coughing ;-)
ENJOY!
-
Oh,so jealous,I'd love to be going somewhere warm
-
Get an electric blanket :-\ :D ?
-
You can get heated jackets now,I saw one on some site or other, works off batteries, need it for up here
-
I saw in a recent hi-end fashion magazine a duvet-type long length coat ....... grubby green colour and looked far too heavy for daily wear. ::)
-
Have a great time Lanza, wish i was there and thank goodness the calima is over. Im going at Easter and cant wait, need some sun now all this rain is too much for my aching bones 8)
-
Here now weather glorious
Lanzalover x
-
Lucky you Lanza,it's chucking it down here
-
How was the trip, any hold ups in checking temps. etc? Many masks in evidence?
-
I have a yen to visit Lugano so have found out how long the road journey might take and looked at Hotels on the Lake front as well as places to buy ...... OK sitting here without a Passport but I am determined. Hopefully prices will remain reasonable once lockdown ends across Europe. I will get plenty of Lorazapam from the GP, cross my fingers etc. and ..........
-
Got my voucher from Ryanair today for cancelled flight at East?r. I wouldn't have been able to go anyway as had the virus, only mildly thank goodness and my smell and taste have finally come back after 3 weeks.
Refunds are available but they cant say when so looks like the voucher is the only option! Anyone else actually got the cash back?
-
I have literally just finished reading a Which article about refunds etc, they say you DO NOT have to accept a voucher for flights as technically it was the airline that cancelled and they should be giving cash refunds as if that company goes out of business your voucher isn't covered by Abta but you CAN contact the airline and say you've changed your mind and you want cash, that goes for holiday deposits etc too
-
DO NOT accept a Voucher - in case that Company goes bust! WHOOPS jaypo ::) was watching something on TV at lunch time in similar vein.
R U feeling a little better every day ?
-
Brittany ferries have given us a voucher for our cancelled crossing to France, but we have emailed them to say we want our money back and do not want a voucher.
Premier inn cancelled the stay we had booked for the night before our sailing and refunded the full amount within days :)
-
You can demand monies,it may just take longer but then if that company goes out of business, you will still get it,as the money you spent is covered by Abta whereas a voucher isn't
-
I clicked on the link to get a refund and its stated refunds would only be returned after the Covid-19 had ended, whenever that will be. However, you can use the voucher straight away to book flights now, would the new flight be then covered? You also get change and can use towards family bookings, just like credit.
-
Probably wrong. They are responsible for paying back all monies, not to wait until the Virus is over or to issue vouchers in case the company goes bust ....... I would have a look-see at the BBC website which had a bit about this during the week? Or Trading Standards or contact your Tour Company web-site?
-
totally wrong and Rynair are now back peddling.
Consumer website Moneysavingexpert has made a formal complaint to the Civil Aviation Authority and Trading Standards about Ryanair's apparent policy.
A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "For any cancelled flight, Ryanair is giving customers all of the options set out under EU regulations, including refunds."
Coronavirus: 'I don't want a flight voucher, where's my refund?'
'We're struggling to get a refund on our ?17,000 chalet'
Mr Childs is far from alone. There has been a wave of complaints from air passengers and holidaymakers who, despite accepting their break had to be cancelled, have had enormous difficulty getting a refund in good time - or at all.
Under EU law, travel companies must refund customers within 14 days if their package holiday is cancelled.
The EU's Denied Boarding Regulations state that air passengers are due a refund within seven days if a flight with an airline based in the UK or EU, or from an airport in the UK or EU, is cancelled.
-
Except that many areas rely on tourism ........ many businesses will close and be No More :'(
I don't expect to go go far other than collect our personal belongings from the property recently sold. A good excuse not to mix with people I don't like :-X ;D
-
I'm thinking our holiday will be cancelled soon.
Not due to go until the very end of June.
We?re not that bothered about going tbh, Im a little too scared to go.
Especially with what happened to my OH. 😢
-
you both need to rest - so wait for them to cancel and refund your money - NOT a voucher ;-)
-
Don't think I'd be bothered either tbh Jill, too much too soon.
I agree re Wales, I lived there for a while and we would tour round in our motor home and without tourists all the small shops and cafes will go under,it's the last thing Wales needs
-
Oh !! no more honey ice-cream :'( ..........
Big Article on IVT earlier about airlines needing more time to pay - does that mean that they have a lack of funds to pay immediately or a lack of staff to issue re-funds?
-
We are still waiting for our cancelled holiday to be refunded. Jet2 have already refunded us the seat reservation money but villa company haven't.
-
I had an email yesterday, from our holiday company, asking if we want to change our holiday date to a 2021 booking. We were due to travel on the 1st of June this year so that was never going to happen.
They are offering a special discount as well, for transferring so that is what we will do. The option to cancel completely is of course still open.

I hadn't booked anything yet this year. However I would have been reluctant to transfer because I couldn't be sure of getting the same dates as leave in 2021 or if getting insurance for then.
-
I would cancel. The Company could still go out of business and if lockdown is going to continue possibly into the New Year ...........
Better the finances in your bank?
-
Our company is ABTA and Atol protected, plus we paid by credit card.
https://www.abta.com/tips-and-advice/is-my-holiday-protected/new-package-travel-regulations
Package holidays offer the best form of protection. Financial protection means you are entitled to a refund or to be brought home if necessary should the travel company organising your package go out of business. You?re also protected if elements of the holiday aren't provided as required, for example the right to a refund if bad weather means your holiday can't go ahead.
-
I just can't imagine package holidays coming back any time soon. The whole experience from start to finish after all is of being 'packaged' in close quarters with other people.
The magnitude of the problem .... :'( .... companies will be collapsing, its inevitable.
I don't think 'packaged in close quarters' is the correct definition of a Package Holiday ???. It's the accommodation and flights etc., that are the 'package' i.e booked together. In other respects it's not any different to a self booked holiday. You still sit next to people on the train, plane, in a restaurant, at a museum etc.,
-
But that's the same for a self book holiday, unless you drive to a cottage in the middle of nowhere, that is.
-
I'd rather stay at home then.
I can read a book, look at the flowers, and do the cooking just the same as at home.
Not much of a holiday :(
-
We have never had a package holiday :o - we booked self catering via 'pets welcome' directly with the owner of the property. No extra insurance as we can afford to 'lose' a holiday. Hotels we booked directly, after looking on the net to see what the bathrooms are like ;D
We read. We eat out when my anxiety allowed. We walk. Sit, view, enjoy. DH goes fishing. No need to mix with anyone unless we want to. Restful if the anxiety keeps away as we are not having to water our pots, engage with neighbours, clean etc..
-
I'd LOVE to go to my lodge in the wilds,it's stunning where it is and for me personally, there's nothing nicer or more relaxing than sitting on the balcony looking over the loch, wonder when they?ll lift travel restrictions :'(
-
Not yet. Holidays should be way down on the list of essentials. Keeping people at home leaves NHS space for 'locals'. Avoids less chance of RTAs etc..
-
No,not yet but I'd still love to go :'(
-
I think cafes could open if people were able to book ahead? Same with garden centres, libraries, gym centres .........
-
The bloke on the tele said yesterday that even if you've paid by credit card, it still could be a battle getting your money back. He said some have, some are arguing to get it back. 🤷♀️
We've booked with Jet2 aswell Yorkie. But they?re only going up,to 17 th June at the moment.
So we?re still waiting.
-

I have heard that CC companies won't pay out if the airline offers vouchers.
-
I think we can write this year off for holidays abroad :'(
-
Yep,think so,we only go away at Xmas and new year but I can't see that happening either :'(
-
So regretting not taking a holiday abroad last year now :'( Have a feeling we may not even go next year, due to the risk of prices sky rocketing.
-
I think that companies will be so desperate to fill beds that there may be discounts ;-). I would be OK going away if there was a view to enjoy even if we weren't allowed far once we get there. But I think that the properties with view will be snapped up!
-
it's the flights that could be expensive as they have a lot of revenue to catch up on.
-
Littleminnie that's what I'm thinking, especially if airlines collapse, then there will be no competition.
-
The airlines are talking about having gaps between each passenger ;D - that might tempt me to fly :-X
-
We've paid a deposit for this years cruise AND next years but If we don't go,it?ll just go towards next years
-
I would avoid a hot tub ........ a real haven for BUGS!
-
We are waiting to see what will happen with our holiday to Chester that's booked for late June - after teenager finished his A-levels - we need to pay the balance this week! At least there is a Waitrose instead of going out to eat :)
-
I wouldn't be paying the balance until asked ;-)
-
Leisure Centre hot tubs can harbour bugs too :-\ - they need cleansing weekly because people turn them on/off which allows germs to thrive. Damp, warm conditions -wha'ts not to like. those at home aren't much better it can be quite expensive to run one.
-
Yes ckld we have a holiday booked for August in Kent. If we did go, we'd be quite happy to just stay put in it.It has a big garden, a hot tub, play equipment and a cinema room. Not sure yet what we'll do.
That's my county Teresa.
If you want any tips of where to/what to see, let me know.
-
Don't worry about it too much just now Stella,we may find by then things are almost back to normal,I was reading in the cruise critic magazine that they are hoping to resume cruises by the end of July or August but who knows
-
We have a thread about 'where to go in the UK' somewhere ;)
-
Thing is CKLD if we don't pay the balance we lose the deposit and the holiday if essential travel is lifted.
-
Do U get regular updates YG?
-
Yes, hubby does
-
Everything crossed that you can go - send me a Post Card?
-
Good luck Yorkie. Everything's crossed for you and your family. 🤞🏼
We?re still waiting to hear too. Can't say I'm looking forward to it if we can go. 😏
We may even move it on yet, we?ll see.
-
I have just change our river cruise holiday (due to go on the 1st of June), too 2nd of June next year.
Fingers crossed. ;)
-
Yeah, maybe we?ll do the same. We?ll see first if we can get our money back.
Even Simon Caulder is having a game getting his money back off something he'd booked.
But he said, Don't Give Up! 😏
-
Brittany ferries have decided that we can have a refund instead if a credit note :) Our trip was in March so its taken a while so don't give up if you are trying to get a refund.
Also had an email off my car insurance company who are giving ?25 refund because we are all driving less
:cancan:

Good news!!! 8)
I think my insurance provider is giving ?25 - that?ll pay for treat sometime soon :)
-
Great news Two Hoots
We had our June holiday cancelled yesterday, we were due to go to Chester for a week with the teenager & girlfriend to celebrate end of their A-levels. Will be interesting to see if we get a refund.
-
We should have gone on holiday today :(.
Never mind, there's plenty of other reasons to be cheerful. :)
-
Like: not being stuck in a queue on the motorway? not having to stop at a service area and then join another queue ? not having all that laundry on your return ?
-
Can't say we experience much of that as we don't usually go away at perk times. As for laundry, that's a small price to pay.
-
Isn't a holiday always a PERK time shady ;D ;D
We just booked a cruise for next May,just in case our Xmas and new year one is cancelled
-
;D. Sorry typing too early in the morning.
-
;D
-
Aww, I love a PERK I do. 😆😂. ( sorry, couldn't resist) ;D
-
this weather is a perk :sunny: - unless 1 is stuck 10 floors up with 3 children and no access to outdoor space :'(
-
You can hear the last sentence of CLKDs post, getting louder and louder in anger! 😂
We've had our refund from Jet 2. 😢 gave us no problems whatsoever.
I've told OH not to book anything until all this is over, not even for next year. ☹️
-
The lovely weather has helped us enjoy our garden :-*
I would HATE to be stuck in a flat, well it wouldn't happen. I'd rather be in Box City ........ I hate heights. We stayed in a Hotel in Torquay in the 1990s and the room was 3 floors up, plenty high enough: to get onto the balcony one had to open the sash window and step over a Very High Cill ......... there was room for 2 white plastic chairs and a cuppa ;D
-
Don't know whether to book a holiday for next year or not :o
-
Thing is if you don't,they?re going to go really quickly,we got the last suite on Queen Victoria and that's for the end of May :o
-
We were due to go away on Saturday, a cruise to Sorrento for our 30th wedding anniversary at the end of the month :'( the same cruise next year is much more expensive so I'm going to watch it and wait until the price comes down.
-
I see P&O aren't sailing now until October,well,so far
-
Oh well done Two Hoots - being 2gether is the important bit ;) :congrats:
-
10 weeks of being together
:whist:
Luckily he can work from home so he's locked away upstairs all day, I'm joking, he's still the nicest person ive ever met ahhhhhhhhh ;D
-
-
Jillydoll Jet2 have been brilliant at giving refunds. We are still waiting on a refund from Sykes cottages for our cancelled holiday later this month, a lot of people have had to threaten legal action to get their money!
We are looking at a holiday in the Dolomites in Italy for next year for some superb walking, hotels are already getting booked up!
-
Yes they have Yorkie. No problem at all.
Hope your Italian holiday happens, fingers crossed for you. 🤞🏼🤞🏼 xx
-
OMG we booked our Italy trip last night we got the second to last room. Apparently this years lakes & mountains aren't happening so all TUI customers have either re-booked for next year or taken the 120% credit to book something more expensive!
-
Oh Italy - where abouts?
-
Oh well done Yorkie. xx
-
it's been a struggle though Theresa. :beat: ;D
-
;D ...... we had words earlier. I thought that he had learned to say 'yes Dear' and not query my requests >:(
-
Everyone in Wiltshire says ..... my love ,you ok my love 😂
-
'my lover' in Cornwall ?
'Hey You' in Norfolk ? don't waste words us don't ;)
'duck' ............. ::)
-
That's a bit of a meander ;D - paternal Grandma would call me the names of her 4 sisters B4 getting to me when she was cross, by which time I had scarpered :D
-
I do hope that people who might have booked a holiday in the US will reconsider :'( :-\ ........ that man has not idea how he impacts on the public. :o. Some of our politicians come out with rubbish but ........... :-X
-
Should have been in Southampton tonight, excited about getting on the ship for the cruise tomorrow :sigh:
-
The weather's bad, you would have been seasick and wished you'd stayed at home... 😞
-
 ...........
I should have been away today from early until late. Then the arrangement was cancelled ::). Had a lay in instead.
-
Awww TH what a bummer, have you booked anything else?
-
I have a cruise booked for next year so I hope everything is back to normalish by then. The cruise industry has come to a complete standstill like all travel, but unlike other holidays a ship can bring thousands of people into a city in one day, its difficult to know when countries are confident to allow cruise ships to dock again.
At least we have had good weather here, and i dont get seasick in the garden ;D
-
Cruise liners need to be smaller with less visitors to hot spots. Liners are causing so many problems in Venice for example with the back wash particularly. Apparently the Canals have seen fish for the 1st time in Centuries so it may be that restrictions will be suggested. Not to stop tourism but to improve the areas visited for those locals as well as less crowds and queues. Sistine Chapel reopened this week :-). If it means booking 2 years ahead to get tickets ......... with restricted numbers per day. A better experience for everyone. When I went to see "The Last Supper" it wasn't busy but as a School Trip maybe we had special access. Can't remember that far back ::)
-
The thing about Venice is an Italian cruise line uses it as a departure port, so they have ships based there, like Southampton or Barcelona, if the Government was serious about cutting ship numbers they should start with them in my opinion. Ive been lucky enough to visit Venice a few times, never by cruise, once in a coach holiday :o its a unique city and I loved it and want go back one day.
-
MayB the Italians will move the departure point? What's with all the Sat papers having travelling inserts :( we can't go anywhere, which bit don't they get :poke2:
-
We've booked one for May TH just in case the Xmas one doesn't go ahead. I agree about these ridiculously huge cruise ships,it's getting silly and some of the clientele?? Well, think booze fest at Blackpool, gonna stick with Cunard from now on. I have to disagree though about everyone getting stuck into cruises, planes are just as harmful and there are thousands more of them, some of these cruise destinations rely on tourists, especially Norway and the likes
-
As does 3/4 of the UK coastal regions. As well as UK countries :whist:
-
I have a big birthday next April Jaypo so I've been looking at April/May but nothing has jumped out but if I see a good deal ;D otherwise next cruise booked cruise is September 2021, the countdown on my phone doesnt make good reading ;D
-
Oh oh go on Queen Victoria, end of May to Norway, see you onboard ;D
-
Oh Norway is beautiful ive been twice :)
-
Yes,we've been before a few times, just love it but think we?ll need our winter woolies 🥶🥶 although that time of year they still have snow on the mountains, it's so beautiful.
Where are you off to in September?
-
We are going to the Canary islands with Celebrity, it was a good offer and included drinks and tips. Im not a big drinker but i do enjoy a glass of wine with food, or a cocktail but the mocktails were really good last time and the package includes the speciality coffees from the coffee shop, a nice iced latte, I dont need the lovely food to put on weight just the drinks will do it ;D
It was later in the year when we went to Norway, the first time was late August and the waterfalls were disappointing but in May it should be snowy and beautiful.
-
Greece opens tomorrow
-
Don't all rush at once ;)
-
Think it's called Iceland littleminnie ;D
-
Sudden global warming even there then :D
-
I have just book a 3 night stay in our favourite Suffolk hotel, for the end of July.
Very excited. :)
-
Oh how lovely :)
We're off to Slimbridge on the 9th with the motorhome AND the pub will be open wooooohhoooo :bounce:
-
Something to look forward to!! 8)
-
Don't forget to take the hook up with you ;-). We carry an extra one as we left it behind ........... and a torch!
-
Can't wait for a lovely cold pint. ::)
Omg a torch!! Nice one clkd, now that's something we DID forget
-
We have several small ones in the 'van. 1 in the glove compartment; one in the bed area; one in the sliding door ......... in case we both need to cross the yard at the same time ;)
-
We need one to take the dogs out at night, can't believe we forgot xx
-
Just booked another holiday. Four nights in a cottage in Shropshire in October.
I'm getting carried away here. Any suggestions for September. ;)
-
That's a shame Diana. My attitude is life is a risk whatever you do so just go for it, especially as we get older.
As the song says 'It's getting late already'.
-
We normally go away in September to a country cottage type holiday & your post Diane200 has now got me thinking. I hadn't given it too much thought till I read your post but you're right.
However if I think about it too much I will never go anywhere ever again. :-\ - Shadyglade's post has also got me thinking "life is a risk whatever you do so just go for it, especially as we get older".
We're damned if we do - & damned of we don't. :)
-
Ha,when I go on my cruise, I take small amounts cleaning stuff with me,like antibacterial wipes etc and clean the cabin from top to bottom, always have and take my own pillow
-
Hoseasons were taking bookings one every nine seconds when Boris announced the easing.
-
We were looking yesterday, for September, at an apartment we've booked before through a cottage holiday company. There is detailed information on their site about new cleaning practices and also guidance on what may or may not be open in the village. Check in time is now 7p.m. instead of 4 and departure time is 9a.m. instead of 10 to allow for thorough cleaning. All non essential items will be removed too such as books and games. All bed linen and towels have to be bagged up and sealed by the occupants before leaving the property. Pillow protectors changed between each new booking. OH is very keen but I'm not sure. It depends on what's open. Refunds/rebookings available for holidays booked now are very specific. Only two reasons apply. Either travel has been banned again or the government has legally closed the area. :-\
Taz x
-
Seems a bit OTT to me, R they charging extra/more ?
It should be cleaned thoroughly between guests anyway. Pillow protectors changed between each booking anyway. I think a lot of owners will put wood flooring through which is easier to maintain. Why not ask clients to take their own bedding, towels etc. :-\. Although I did find that a phaff!
I never went through a company as they charge high fees, we always booked directly with the owner using "pets welcome".
-
Obviously they are always cleaned well but in order to stop possible transmission of the virus then extra care has to be taken. Not sure how they will sanitise sofas etc.
Taz x
-
You can get a disinfectant spray that is safe for upholstery
-
I have used self catering a lot over the years. A step up from camping ;D and some places were spotless. Which 1 should expect virus or not. Also, currently if a property is left for 72 hours then the virus won't have anything to jump onto and therefore replicate. So owners should consider a 5 day let cutting out weekends. That gives time for cleaning and airing as well as should the bug be present, the chance for it to expire.
However: years ago when we had a dog and used the same property year in/out, we went in the 2nd year and my dog found a lamb chop bone down the settee :o. There was a very patterned carpet so I would throw her supper of dried food across the very large lounge for her to hunt and eat. The 3rd year we went in, she went straight to the Welsh dresser wagging her tail: yep, there were bits of dried dog food under there from our visit 8 months previously :D. Needless to say we are still here and that we went elsewhere after ::)
I'm enjoying lockdown - own bed, garden, bath, TV, neighbours ;-).
-
Some have week lets i.e. 5 days, others have Friday-Monday ........ also 1 can book as many nights as required in a Hotel though some insist on 2 nights especially over weekends. We have always avoided any that 'do weddings' .........
-
BBC News today:
A former government adviser has said he does not believe a second national lockdown would be necessary during the coronavirus pandemic.
Prof Neil Ferguson, whose advice led to the decision to go into lockdown, said he would expect to see "targeted" restrictions to contain outbreaks.
He told Nick Robinson on BBC Radio 4's Political Thinking the easing needed to be monitored "very closely".
And the UK should "be prepared to row back a bit" if cases increased.
The next series of measures to ease the lockdown will take place in England on 4 July, when the 2m (6ft) social distancing rule reduces to "one metre plus".
This will allow some pubs, restaurants and cafes to reopen while complying with safety guidelines.. I can't understand why he gets air time :-\
-
I wont be going anywhere this year :'( not risking it. My hubby is extremely vulnerable, got a new letter from Gov yesterday saying he can mix with up to 6 people (we won't) and must be very strict with distancing and from 1st August he may be able to go shopping, however Boris has reduced the distance from next week, so people won't know my husband is vulnerable & will not distance. So I will continue to do our shopping and what ever else needs to be done and bleach everything when I get home. The numbers are not going down. My hubby had to go for blood test today at hospital, I stayed in the car, he put his p3 mask on and off he went, thankfully he wasn't long but I covered his seat with a throw, got the sanitizer out and poured into his hand, when he got home he stripped off in the porch, clothes & throw straight in washing machine & he went for a shower, I got his towel for him, whilst he was showering I bleached door handles & inside car again. That's my new fragrance now ;D unfortunately I also feel we will have a 2nd spike, unbelievable the people at the beaches & liverpool celebrations etc >:(
-
European holidays allowed from the 6th of July. :)
-
I have too say that the doom and gloom on some of the posts is sad. I understand your worries, I really do. However, for many people the thought of a possible holiday is a real boost to their mental health.
I for one am definitely looking forward to going away and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty for it.
-
We're of to Lanzarote in August for two weeks and i cant wait to see my family again. We're in the same villa we always go to and will probably feel safer there than here. Their lockdown has been much stricter than ours and the island is now covid free. We have our own pool and the beach opposite has no sun beds so very quite. We will do alot of BBQs and eat in. Seating outside in restaurants is well spaced and masks worn in shops etc. They have prepared well ready for tourists returning. The only downside is the flight but we're on the first flight early morning so the plane will have been cleaned and we have to wear masks anyway and will take a small sanitizer.
Ive been working without a break now since Christmas, school stayed open for key workers children, I need this holiday.
-
We should've been flying to Feurterventura tomorrow for my OHs birthday. 😢
Our son should've flew out today, to the same place, and we'd have met up with him. 😢
Never mind, we'll go after all this is over hopefully.
-
That's rubbish jillydoll, happy bday to OH and hope you can enjoy his birthday some other way, for now! Gives you something to plan ahead & look forward to.
Enjoy Lanzarote Dierdre. x
-
Oh fab dierdre, not jealous at all :o ;D Jill come with us in the motorhome, how cozy would that be ;D ;D
I understand people being nervous but you could be hit by a lorry tomorrow(sorry morbid) I'm all ready for my holiday that's for sure, I do agree about the cleaning side of things, I just don't trust other people to do it, I clean EVERY single thing in our cabin and always have done, even before Covid as it's norovirus on ships,it's simply about being hygienic,if you wash your hands properly, there should be no problem.Take your own bedding if your worried about pillows and duvets etc
-
(Penguin I wish you both all the best. :-*
Thank you, & to you too :)
My husband didn't get his first letter until the middle of April! He even asked his consultant on 27th March does he need to shield and was told NO! Thankfully I did some research and said to him to stay in just in case. We didn't get the phone call from shielding team until 5 weeks in, what would he have done if he was like you and lived alone? I go to work & I dread it, thankfully I'm not round many people at all and anyone that does come up to me is told to distance. Like you Teresa we listen to the government talks and vulnerable people are never mentioned :'(. Just left to get on with it.
On the other hand, I'm so longing for a holiday, but it will be next year for us. It'll be my 50th & mine & hubby's 30th wedding anniversary. Will look for something special. I honestly don't think people should stop having their holidays, you work hard enough for them, think they should be held back a little bit more, I just hope people aren't stupid like we've seen lately.
-
We booked to go to the place we love in Brittany at the end of August, its good news for us that travel is being relaxed. Last year when we were planning this years holidays the last thing on our minds was a virus sweeping across the world :o
I also give surfaces a wipe when we arrive and wash the dishes and cutlery, if I can I take my own pillow wherever im staying, not just for hygiene but some pillows are uncomfortable and I sleep so much better with my own.
-
TH I ALWAYS take my pillow, not only is it a contour one but the thought of my head being where thousands of other drooling heads have been is a big no no 🤢🤢
-
You've been on my pillow then Jay? 🤣😂🤣
-
More than likely but your heads been about a bit hasn't it ;D ;D ;D
-
I used to wash cutlery etc. when we arrived ;D ........ and avoided anywhere that charged for my dog because I always cleaned up behind her. A tenner to run a hoovers-thingy around when it might have been money for old rope, nope.
I'm enjoying staying at home and having trips in the area ;-). Especially today ;D
-
Think I've lost a full head of hair on pillows over the years. 🤣😂🤣
-
The places we used to go to charged 50 (this site won't let me do a pound sign) and then it would be refunded once they'd check the dog hadn't made a mess,it's only fair really, some dogs can wee if left or chew things, not ALL dogs are well behaved but I agree Diane,it's always the owners
-
Our lets didn't allow pets to be left behind. Not that we would have done so because that was the whole point, to take :scottie: somewhere new :-).
-
Yes but unfortunately clkd not all dog owners are responsible >:( our dogs LOVE the motorhome, they've been running in and out of it since we got it,first trip in a couple of weeks woohoo
-
Don't know if we have done the right thing.
our holiday cottage in Ireland, due to go on 29th August, has been cancelled by the owner.
Instead, we have booked 10 days in Spain, to stay in our own apartment and to visit my Mother in Law. My husband had not been able to see his 89 year old Mother since New Year.
prices were cheap for the fights, just worried we may not go and worried about the flight if we do!
-
Don't fret Donna, you'll be ok,take all the usual precautions and all will be fine,I personally CANNOT WAIT to go on holiday
-

You'll know more tomorrow after the supposed announcement about quarantining and air bridges etc. I guess. It's quite a while till August so things will probably change by then. How lovely for him to be able to see his mum after all this time!
Taz x
-
Go for it Donna - lots of hand gel and I believe that masks are required around the concourse and whilst flying? If your property hasn't been used during the pandemic, a simple wipe down on arrival and a feather duster to shoo out any spiders will be enough housework!
One-use gloves become sticky and give a false sense of security. Far better to use a good gel. There may not be food on board so mayB take some ginger biscuits whilst in the flight? I expect that the air line might tell you more?
How has MinL been? Well locked in?
-
She has been well thanks CLKD. She has been visited by some of the sons and daughters who live near by. They had to have a signed letter from a doctor to be able to go and take her medication and shopping. she talks the hind leg off a donkey when we phone as she sees very few people. but she is of the war time spirit ( well Spanish Civil war) and is a very positive woman.
She doesn't know we are going to see her, we will fly to Alicante and have 6 days in our apartment, then my brother in law and his wife will take us a 4 hour trip to visit MIL for the weekend. will come back in time to pack for the flight back home.
-
Enjoy! I will expect a post card ;D
-
I shouldn't worry too much Donnadoobie, I'm going to Lanzarote in a few weeks and my family have said its very safe. Just wear your mask on the flight, probably safer than getting on a bus here and enjoy yourself. I know I will. ;)
-
Thanks Dierdre
-
Our campsite we go to is not re-opening so our holiday is cancelled. Boo... :(. However we live in a lovely placpart of the country not too far from the sea so I'm not complaining! Also some of our various offpsring are heading down to stay over the next few weeks and we haven't seen them since Christmas so it's holiday at home for us!

Apparently you need to check your insurance if you're going overseas, some of them aren't covering CV.
-
Your covered if you took the insurace before lockdown in March (yearly insurace) but only if and when the FCO lift the travel only for essential purposes. We've sent for the EHIC NHS to use if travel insurance won't cover Covid but these cards are only valid now until December 2020 when we finally exit the EU.
-
Hi Dierdre,
There are one or two that do cover for Covid. Can't remember which ones but I think you will find details on Moneysupermarket. Here's a news article as well.

I have just found some on MSE which are offering better cover than I had expected. Just excluding things like a sudden lockdown like the one in Leicester. I am reconsidering my possible Italy trip in September which I thought I would have to abandon.
-
That would be great Katejo. Go for it, if you can.
-
Many Travel Insurance Policies don't cover C-19 since end of June I think.

Most haven't since mid March but a few are now offering partial cover as I said above.

We booked a week's holiday in a National Trust cottage, in Dorset, for this April. Of course it was cancelled and we had the option for the Trust to hold the money so that we could re book later this year. This is where the trouble started. The system was that re bookers had to do it by email. But due to furloughing there hardly anyone replying to emails.
It's taken me months and many emails to finally get a phone call, last night. I said that I no longer wanted the dates for rebooking as I had now booked with someone else. They have now refunded my money.
The annoying thing is that if I was a new booker I could just have done it on the website. I will never book with them again. Shambles ::)
-
I am wondering whether a city break to Liverpool might be worth trying. I Have considered it several times. I have only been once before. It was a miserable bitterly cold day in February 1983 when I went for a visit to the Polytechnic. However I have seen much more positive clips from events there much more recently.
Is it worth a trip for 2-3 nights as a mini break?
-
Definitely the revamped Docks are worth it. There is a Tate gallery there as well. Plus there is the Mersey ferry. I've been on that and done the round trip. They still play ' Ferry Cross the Mersey'.
-
A decent shopping centre there too.
-
Haha that reminds me of leaving Olden in Norway, the locals come down to wave the ship off and they play Rod Stewart's..........have you guessed? Yep,I am sailing ;D ooohhhh cringe ;D
-
A decent shopping centre there too.
I wouldn't go there to shop though. I'd have to carry any new purchases home (and wear a mask). Plenty of access to shops in London.
-
I haven't been to the Capital for over 30 years :-\
-
RUBBISH!
Why can't people take their stuff home if the Council haven't provided enough bins >:(. Some people have more money than sense, leaving re-useable items behind ........... it's easy enough to take a couple of extra bags/sacks in which to put rubbish in to be disposed of at home.
Add to that, crowds celebrating a football club's achievements: the photos on the News showing rubbish is disgusting! I could rant for hours about this!!
-
Know of someone who went to Spain a few days ago, the plane was only a 1/3 full.
-
Wonder how full it will be on their return ;)
Still no reason to fly .............
-

Oh yes and the flag waving from their balconies :)
-
Haha yes yes TH,they did it for you too? Thought it was especially for me ;D
-

Im sure it was extra loud for you ::)
-
Spain - go and enjoy yourselves ? OK if you aren't running a business on your return which can't be organised from home ::)
-
Off to Suffolk for a few days.
Really need the break. Anxiety reared it's ugly head yesterday. Can't be doing with that again. :(
-
Me too shady. Feel a bit better this morning.
I'm wondering whether the trip to the doctors got to me subconsciously yesterday and started it off. 🤷♀️ First time I've been there since all this started. Had to queue outside, then when they let me in, had to sit on my own and wipe down the chair that I'd been sitting in afterwards. Then had to find my way out around the back of the building. All with a mask on, which felt uncomfortable at the end.
Hats off to people who have to wear them all day/ night long. Not sure I could.
Have a good break, you'll enjoy it. 😊
-
What an absolute shambles! You can go to the Canaries but need to quaratine then you cant go at all, but if you do go you need to quaratine, all decided within hours. We had nearly 2 weeks notice just to wear a face mask and most people had already made that decision anyway, why wait another 2 weeks, it was a mask....
Lanzarote is probably the safest place in Europe and has been Covid free for weeks. Ryanair are not cancelling their flights and have said business as usual so no refund. Although we can change dates, but the new trip has to be taken before 31st Dec 2020, not an option, so we're going!
My family had 2 holidays cancelled this year and had refund vouchers that have now paid towards this one, cant afford to loose all that money for flights and then the cost of the villa. We will have to deal with the work/quarantine situation when we get back or hope it will change in the next 4 weeks.
We're key workers and have not had a break since Christmas, the thought of not going now is devastating.
-
Enjoy your break Shadyglade x
-
I don't think that Lanzarote had any cases?
DH wondered, cynic that he is, if it's the UK government's way of keeping the tourist industry here to recoup costs ;-). I don't know that anywhere is open here? and I'm not camping at my age :D
-
Im going to Brittany end of August, I'm watching the updates on cases in France ???
-
Off to Suffolk for a few days.
Really need the break. Anxiety reared it's ugly head yesterday. Can't be doing with that again. :(
If you had told me a year ago that I would get excited about a 2 day visit to Brighton to sea the coast again, I would have thought you were mad ! 😁 That is what I am doing tomorrow
-
I love a wander around Brighton. Hope you have a good time! :)
-
Just back from Skye, only a couple of days and no surprises,it rained 8)
-
I love Brighton but can't afford to live there ;D - give the sea a wave from me ;)
Scottish weather then jaypo?
-
I live in Brighton! Hope you had a lovely day. A bit blustery, but nice and fresh. I booked a holiday, a pitch by a river we can swim in. I like camping, and we have a kind of t-pee, so should be good.
-
Enjoy.
-
Hey elkwarning, did you ever see fat boy slim at the pier ;D I have a live cd from there
Yep clkd,I guess it's not called the misty isle for nothing ???
-
I enjoy the the Peter James books set in Brighton. The books are going to be made into a tv series starring John Simm as the main character, in my head when I read them I visualise David Soul ;D hope im not too disappointed :)
-

I am not there yet. Going today and returning tomorrow. Weather looks better than yesterday and Monday. Where are you going?

Alot are thinking the same. There's been 11 cases reported on the island of Lanzarote, compared to the UK that's very very low. We're probably alot safer there, the only worry is our travel insurance will likely be void because of the FCO advice but we've got the EHIC cards that are valid until Dec 2020 when Brexit is final.
We can change our flights but who knows what will have happened by October, might be worse. Dont know what to do now :-\
-
Your Insurance won't be valid, none is after 31st March 2020 for C-19.
-
Your Insurance won't be valid, none is after 31st March 2020 for C-19.
The key problem is the FCO advice which voids the insurance . If the advice weren't there, policies bought before March 11 would be ok.

Stay at home ?
-
My policy is a year one bought in Feb, so would have been covered. We will loose too much money to cancel flights and villa and no refund from Ryanair as they are running as scheduled. Insurance wont pay out as the flights not cancelled.
Will just have to wait until 9th August, this seems to be when the airlines are reviewing the situation.
-
£150.00 per test per person on return through the airports :-\. Then a 2 weeks quarantine. If the 2nd test 5-8 days is clear, then they can return to work sooner. Doesn't anyone know the incubation period of C-19 yet?
-
Doubt many families will be buying the test at that price, especially if it only gets them a few days less quaratine and they can say they have symtoms and go to a testing station for free!
Lots of people dont even have symtoms let alone know how long they've had covid.
-
I don't even know where I could obtain a test in our area. Health Serivce hasn't told us. I would have to feel really ill to put myself forwards for that and so many tests have been lost ............ or are sent abroad because the UK hasn't the capacity to process them.
-

I think you can now request one via 111 by phone or online and it is delivered to you. However my GP practice still has an outdated recorded message from April just telling patients to stay at home and not contact 111 unless they get worse.

I had 2 beautiful warm and sunny days in Brighton. Lovely to be by the sea again. Do you know the upside down house on the seafront ? It was great fun
-
I don't want one through the post I want the test to be done correctly by the NHS!
I haven't noticed the upside-down house is that new?
-
Katejo Glad you had a good time. We were in Brighton at Christmas and I knew nothing about it until the teenager said could we go & see it, we didn't go in though.
-
Good to hear you had a nice time Katejo.
Never been to Brighton tbh. 🙁
-

Hotel staff said it was about a year old.
-
Ah - that's how we've missed it. Another to put on the list of places to go or revisit. I LOVE Brighton. We had a thread somewhere ;D
-
We have today booked a week in Cumbria in Eskdale for October :)
-
Seem ages since we went abroad.
-
Lovely time of year up there! Enjoy. B&B, Self catering, camping ?
-
CKLD cottage
-
How lovely :-).
-
Boulders 'as big as cars' in Rest and Be Thankful landslip
AGAIN - avoid this area as it remains impassable due to torrential rain ..........
-
Omg clkd,we were on that road last week :-\ they have these super strength fences up,like you'd expect for a T Rex or something, I take it nobody hurt :-\
-
Those fences wouldn't stop a fart in a colander :o
-
Haha, yeah, I said as much to my OH,A huge rock tumbling full speed down the mountainside, what the hell are those fences gonna do :o
-
Did you have a nice break Jaypo? I'm on holiday this week, no plans other than hairdressers (at last, yippee!!). Went for a bike ride yest evening when it was cooler, otherwise housework & relaxing! x
-
Well done Yorkie, that sounds great. x
Have a nice week off Foxy. We won't recognise you after your hair cut. 💇🏼♀️ 😉
.
-
;D ;D it's the colour (hiding the greys) that will make more of a difference! Can't wait. x
-
I'm reading 'surviving the volcano' and certainly those at Rest and Be Thankful boulders would take out any fencing as they hurtled down the hillside ........... apparently there is a controlled route on the 'old' road being led by a man in a van.
-
The 'Man In the Van' isn't Jaypos OH is it? 😂🤣😂
After all, he's been on that road. 🤣😂
-
Thanks foxy 💖
Yeah,it's my OH,he's got a new job ;D ;D
-
Nice and relaxing I would think?
-
Yes until he hears a faint rumbling ;D ;D
-
Then he'll be dashing back for his meals ;D.
-
The diversion route for the closed A83 has reopened after being closed for safety reasons overnight.
The Old Military Road (OMR) has reopened under convoy after an inspection at first light.
The OMR and the A83 were closed a week ago after heavy rain caused 6,000 tonnes of debris to move across the hill.
The OMR reopened on Saturday morning but closed temporarily on Monday due to a forecast for heavy rain.
Work continues to clear tonnes of debris from the A83.

Trowels are to be left in 90 lay-bys in part of the Highlands to help tackle problems with outdoor toileting.
Lochbroom Community Council is also to install signs directing visitors to where there are public toilets.
Chairman Topher Dawson said the trowels would offer an "emergency, last resort" for those who desperately need the loo to dig a hole and bury the waste.
Reminds me that my Dad always had two torches, two trowels and a small child's potty in the car - people have no idea how to leave only footprints these days >:(. Apparently I opened the door of the car too soon and the potty fell and rolled down the road, it had a crack in for ever after!
-
Perhaps our council could keep a trowel beside every public toilet they've closed >:(
-
I nip into cafes to use the loo if there aren't any public facilities or into the local Town Council Offices ;). "I have to use your loo as there aren't any open in the town, then I can go spend money in your local shops"
-
Just got back from an amazing holiday with my family in Lanzarote, felt completely safe during the whole time out there. So much stricter than here, masks, distancing and police actually enforcing the rules. So sad that the government's exemption does not include this island as they have worked so hard to keep people safe and cases are so low compared to the UK.
Have to pay the price now of a well earned and needed holiday like many others with 14 days quaratine, even though there are more people in the area i live with Covid than where i have just been.
Will now work from home and hopefully the 2 weeks will go fast.
-
Oh Deirdre - they will fly by. Once you've unpacked, done the laundry, put it away ........ booked your next trip ;-).
-
So jealous dierdre, that's one of the islands the cruise we go on goes to but the Xmas cruise has been cancelled now :'(
-
Unless things change soon the island will be like a ghost town. Lots of businesses and jobs lost, they rely on British tourism so much. Two of my family have been made redundant, they're ok for now as they will get 80% of their wages for a year, hopefully things will be back to normal by then.
-
I went away last week and anxiety almost ruined it :'( because I had commitments :-\
-
Well,we've booked a cruise on P &O for Xmas and new year but I think they will cancel too, still got a hotel booked on Skye though ....just in case
-
I would go to Skye ........... we ran out of words to describe the beauty of it when we were there, we luckily had FabULUS weather.
Is the 3 Chimneys still there? A friend went there 10 years ago and enjoyed it.
-
We are off to Lancashire this month, after our holiday to Majorca & Chester were cancelled I really need this holiday. We also have a week in Cumbria booked for October & week on Anglesey in November.
-
We normally go abroad 3 times a year. Did go in February before all this madness started. We are off in a couple of months for 2 weeks, might go in this country if we aren’t in lockdown again.
-
Thanks franny,we WERE booked on Cunard but they've cancelled all sailings until May,so I'm guessing P&O will do the same.
My OH is from Skye so know it very well,he's taking me to the chimneys if we go in December,we're staying at the cuillins hotel, been before and it's FABULOUS. Where north are you off to?
-
Pitlochry has beautiful surrounding countryside, been there many times AND we stayed in a lodge ;D
-
Ive been to Lewes today, I didnt expect it to be hilly ::) but has a wander around some antiques centres and lunch so a nice first day In Sussex.
-
It is hilly - did U buy anything? There was a whole street with antique shops but we haven't been for 5 years. Panic sent me fleeing home.
The Lanes in Brighton - one gets all kinds of people ;-) and all kinds of tat/antiques .............
Where you staying?
-
No didnt buy anything :( we are staying near Crowborough. We have a fish and chip supper booked on the Bluebell railway on Friday, antiques and steam train week ;D
-
How lovely!
-
No didnt buy anything :( we are staying near Crowborough. We have a fish and chip supper booked on the Bluebell railway on Friday, antiques and steam train week ;D
If you have time I would recommend Rye and also Battle Abbey. Both well worth a look but I expect you have to book for the Abbey.
Love the Bluebell Railway. We have done their Sunday lunch trips, a couple of times.
Enjoy.
P.S. Forgot to say. Sheffield Park, which is next to the Bluebell Railway main station, so also excellent. NT, so you would have to book online.
-
Thanks Shady, I have Rye on my list of places to visit this week. This part of the country has so many houses, castles and gardens to visit, not all are fully open so we will have to head this way again when they are ;)
-
We loved Rye 20 years ago, I believe that we walked out to a spit of sand :-\ ? RSPB ? in glorious sunshine.
-
Rye is gorgeous, haven't been for years.
-
Pitlochry is lovely, had a school trip away for the weekend in Faskally, absailing, orienteering etc, fab! I've been to Skye but OH never been keep saying we need to go. Susan Calman has a series on tv secret scotland I started watching it yest, she was in Orkney, Skye & Arran. Glorious. x
-
That was her last series, next week she begins a new one. Love it!
PS - of course, I looked on RightMove at properties in Aran :D
-
Oh brilliant, I love her programme
-
Arran not far from me, it's beautiful. x
-
Nor our place in Dunoon, might take a trip there sometime
-
Meet you there?! ;)
-
Oh yes,we'll go and scare all the locals ;D
-
why, what u planning on doing?!! >:D :diablo:
-
Just turning up will be enough ;D
Off to Dunoon on Tuesday as it happens
-
Perfect timing, weather supposed to be good here this week! I'm taking Friday/Monday off so looking forward to the long weekend. Have a lovely time, how's things going with your new place? x
-
We haven't really been there much but somebody has cleared the entire garden for us,I say garden,it's more like a field with hundreds of trees etc, there's no way we could've done it by ourselves,so he went in with his digger,so hopefully we'll get to see what our land actually looks like
-
Hopefully the trees remain :-\ - to prevent run off or your land will end up like Rest and B Thankful :o
-
There's trees EVERYWHERE,the ones at the back are too dense and we kinda need space to park cars etc but I've taken a very small oak and replanted it,so fingers crossed
-
Digger?? Don't you just need more goats? :)
-
Home today after a lovely sunny week in Sussex, we will go back to the area again when the National Trust properties are open, there are lots to visit in the Sussex/Kent region. This time we went to Rye, Lewes and Bexhill-in-sea, as well as fish and chips on the Bluebell railway ;D
-
That's great jaypo, imagine if you had to do it all by hand would take you forever. x
-
We did the side by ourselves foxy and it took us 2 days, only about 10feet square,OH was pulling trees out with his truck, yep, definitely more goats when we move up there
Was it as good as a cruise TH 8)
-
Compared to a cruise Jaypo there was a distinct lack of waiter service and cocktails, and the view was the same for 7 days, but as a UK alternative it was great ;D
-
Aww glad you enjoyed it TH,just nice to get away isn't it?
We're now booked on P&Os Iona over Xmas and new year but I'm not holding my breath,we can still go to Skye if it's cancelled
-
I'd go to Skye ;-)
-
Can't wait to go away, we're hoping after Xmas sometime. Sooner rather than later.
Can't see it happening tbh. But you have to remain optimistic, or else. 😉
Never needed a holiday soooo much.
What a s*#t year we've had. 😞😩
-
Ooooh Iona, thats the brand new ship :)
It really was good to get away, and it came just when we needed it after the disappointment with the house we wanted to buy :-\
-
You'll get away Jill, don't know where, don't know whhhhhhhheeeeennnnnnn, oops burst into song there ;D but you will, you two deserve it after everything :'(
Yes TH Iona hasn't even sailed anywhere yet, probably a bit too big for my liking but you never know.Oh yes,the house, will you look for another?
-
Have a walk round your local area: look at the roofs on the buildings, they tell you a lot. Use your local Parks for gentle exercise. Library, delve into your local history. All the tiles in France seem to be made from the same factories .......... red, probably hand made.
-
Jillydoll you really need a holiday after all that you have both been through
We are off over the border into red rose county of Lancashire on Friday, really need this week away
-
Jaypo I think you will be spending your holiday in Skye from what Ive read this morning :( :)
-
Yeah, could really do with it now Yorkie. But I'll just have to wait. 🤦🏼♀️🤷♀️
Hope you have a great time going to Lancashire, enjoy it. xx
-
Ha,yes TH P&O emailed this morning,oh well, wasn't unexpected, just hope we can get to Norway in May :-\
-
Skye is lovely. Be prepared to get stuck on the Island if it snows .......... :whist:
-
Ha,don't worry clkd,my OH lived there til he was 16 :o
-
He will have forgotten about what to pack though ;-)
-
Plenty of long johns, I should think. Awwwww, the sex appeal. 😜😍. 😂
-
;D. slowly peeling them down .............
-
Only to reveal..........another pair!
-
I want to go to Italy :'(
-
I want to go anywhere! 😩😂🤣
-
Walking the dog is a highlight these days.
-
It's such a shame, the neighbours here at the lodge bought a town house in Italy just before lockdown, they plan to retire there and they've not seen it since they bought it in February.
We're going back to lovely Wales at the end of the month to Llandovery with the motorhome, that's if we've not been locked down again :(
-
Take plenty of clothing ? in case.
I wish I had a dog to walk :'(
-
We are now in Lancashire, staying near to Clitheroe, really need this week away!
-
I did babysit for years FrannyB
Enjoy your break: Rules will be altered by the time you are due to travel back ;-). Who knows, you may get a 2nd/3rd week ;)
Clitheroe ........... not kidding R U ;)
-
Enjoy YG :)
-
Have a great time Yorkie. 🎠
-
Happy holidays/break's away for those getting away! 8) ;)
-
Thank you ladies, we are enjoying our time here :)
-
And hopefully great weather too YG,enjoy ,you deserve it :-*
-
Weather OK ? The last 5 days have been ideal for a Staycation if anywhere is open.
-
Weather has been lovely so far
-
Weather altered here. :-\
-
Another reason not to fly :o
A communication error meant too many passengers at the front of a plane caused take-off issues for the pilot, air investigators found.
An Airbus A320 was replaced with an A321 ahead of a flight from London Luton Airport in January, but an email about the change was not passed on.
It meant the passenger seating plan was not adjusted to the bigger craft.
The Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) said it landed safely and the operator had since taken action.
The A320 was due to be used for the flight from Luton to Prague in the Czech Republic on 16 January, but for "operational reasons" it was changed to an A321.
The Operational Control Centre (OCC) in Budapest, Hungary, sent an automated message to the Operational Handling Department (OHD) and Passenger Services Department (PSD) at Luton, but due to a "technical issue", it was not received.
This was noticed at 14:05 GMT and the OCC duty manager called the OHD to let them know of the change.
-
You wouldn't catch me on a plane anyway, for love nor money :o
-
I don't even listen to the news anymore,I'm beyond fed up with it all.
Just cancelled a break too, just to Wales but there were so many rules in place at the site I just thought....stuff that, that's not a relaxing holiday, don't do this, follow that you mustn't blah blah, feel mostly sorry for my OH,he works so hard and obviously our cruise was cancelled,so not even got that to look forward to :-\
-
Except playing with the kids ;-)
-
Same here I wont fly any more its too stressful.
Ive had 7 holidays cancelled this year, some were holidays booked because our original holiday was cancelled, then that was off too :( this week I should have been on a cruise to the Canary islands, that was cancelled so we booked to go to France instead, their covid numbers suddenly rose so that was cancelled, finally booked Norfolk but I’m in local lockdown so that was also cancelled, if Norfolk hadnt been cancelled by local lockdown it would have been cancelled because I'm isolating until Thursday :-[
-
Yep clkd,I play with my kids, tuck them up in bed too ;D
Have you any cruises booked for next year TH? We've one on Queen Victoria end of May up to the fjords again but I'm not even holding my breath for that one :-\
-
The rescheduled Canary islands cruise is booked for ...348 days time according to my countdown app ;D
-
Plenty of time to buy the new outfits then ;D
-
Our planned trip to the USA to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary won’t happen this year. Maybe next year? One can hope. We had planned to see my son’s family as well, but won’t be able to see them at all this year. Very hard for my son, as he gets homesick.

Its hard being away from family if he’s homesick, we had family coming home for Christmas from New Zealand, I don’t know when they’ll come now :'(
-
Homesickness is awful :'(
-
I am fed up with reading the 'holiday' pages in the various Sat. papers as well as receiving details from Fred Olson about 21/22 cruises >:( which bit of 'not travelling' don't they get :-\
-
We can't even go to Scotland to do up our new place as Nicola says NO >:(
-
Has anyone dared to book a holiday abroad for next year?
-
Booked a cruise to Norway for May,what's the chances :-\
-
If you have had your vaccine you can go.
I’m going to wait at the Port so I’m first to get it, then I’m going home and booking a holiday.
-

It should be a while B4 the public get access to a C-19 vaccine as it's being aimed at those in care homes and health workers.

Has anyone dared to book a holiday abroad for next year?
We have a river cruise booked for next June. It was moved from last June, which was obviously cancelled.
Fingers crossed this time. ::)
-
I'm going away somewhere as soon as possible.
It'll be in this country tho.
I'm not happy going abroad just yet. Maybe that'll be next year.
-
We love holidays in the UK. Weather permitting, it's all here! Beaches, museums, castles, Cathedrals, churches ........
-
The problem is the weather doesn’t usually permit.
-
It did this year: but we were in lockdown >:(
-
Yes. We sat out a lot. Got the best tan ever ;D
-
I wanted to share our garden from March onwards :-\. Especially for those with little access to Parks etc..

Pop star Rita Ora has apologised for a second breach of the UK's Covid-19 restrictions, after failing to self-isolate following a trip to Egypt.
The 30-year-old flew to Egypt for a private performance on 21 November. On her return the following day, she should have isolated for two weeks.
Instead, she threw a birthday party in London, which was itself in violation of lockdown rules.
The star apologised for the party last week, and offered to pay a fine.
-
Oh,well that's ok then >:(
-
The £10k is probably just loose change in her purse...
They're talking about letting 'important' businessmen in without isolating. That'll make sure no one else does it unless they might get caught.
-
Am I allowed to be annoyed :-\ or it is OTT :-\ ?
