Title: Body-identical NHS HRT - could anyone share any knowledge, advice, experience?
Post by: Kittenpaws on May 15, 2018, 11:41:28 AM
Hello! Would be so grateful if anyone could give me the lowdown on getting body-identical HRT (Oestrogel, Utrogestan, I don't know if there are any others?) on the NHS, and if/how it worked for them? My GP has said they've never heard of it! Thank you.

Hi and welcome
Do search the forum - there are many threads covering bio identical. There is a good deal of confusion about bio identical hormones - virtually all HRTs now have bio identical oestrogen in them but the only bio identical progesterone is Utrogestan  which is under ‘micronised progesterone' in the GP's drug book as it's still not considered a standard hrt hormone for some reason and many GPs are not up to speed on treating the menopause. Utrogestan is getting progressively more popular but some, ‘like me', found it more problematic than the other synthetic progesterones. It is important to be open minded about any treatment but especially hrt, as it is trial and error till you find the right regime for you.
Look under TREATMENTs on this site as in the ‘progesterones' section it shows the details about Utrogestan which you could print out and show your GP. Basically you have to gently educate your GP.
Whether this type of hormone therapy works for you will be a matter of ‘trying it to see ‘ as we are all different and most women have to experiment till they find their favourite that gives the least side effects. . DG x

Hi kitten paws

I got both on the NHS - started last month on the Estrogel 1 pump a day I am 53 and peri last period was March this year I'm starting the utrogestan on 1st July I'm doing great on just 1 pump it's cured all symptoms
I had to take screen shots of them and literally sit and scroll through her computer until we found them, she again never heard of them! So they are available xxx

Hi body identical hrt is oestrogen in form of gel or patch. Body identical progesterone is Utrogestan .

I get them on NHS . I did see a private specialist first but now get them from my GP. They work for me. 4 pumps of Oestrogel and 100mg of Utrogestan every night . They have given me my life back and I have no side effects.
