So many that fit with a memory  :)

Supertramp songs my brother played loudly as a teenager
80's dance music from my 'disco' days
The music my gymnast daughter did her floor routines to

My current favourites are songs we've learnt at Rock Choir and I now know the proper words to - Halo, Budapest, Firework ...  :cancan:

I love 70s pop music and my list includes:

Don't go breakin my heart - Kiki Dee and Elton John
Sunshine on  my Shoulders (makes me happy) - John Denver
All Steely Dan songs - especially St. Louis Blues
All Queen songs - especially their Greatest Hits album
   Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry

On the classical list I'd choose:
   Debussy piano music
Satie Gymnopedies for piano (1, 2 and 3).
Daniel Barenboim playing all Mozart piano pieces

Music exists to speak the words we can't express

Beethoven Emperor Piano Concerto
Allegri Misereri
Schubert Arpeggione Sonata

Then:
Phantom of the Opera (medley which the choir I play for performed last year)
Cool jazz to listen to at tea time
Anything by Elton John
Abba Move On and Eagle
But my number one all-time favourite feel-good song has to be "Le Vieux Cafe de la Rue d'Amerique" sung by Mireille Matthieu in 1977.  Somehow, I managed to miss this until literally a few months ago, courtesy of Youtube, but now I really love it and I cannot let a day go past without listening to it.  Does anyone else know it/like it?

Okay hoping I don't sound too weird but from time to time something we used to sing in school pops into my head...those old hymns we sang in assembly bring back so many happy memories of friends and funny times. Anyone else or am I truly crazy? ;D

No, not crazy.  At our assemblies they would play a record of the 'Planets suite' as we left the hall.  Still love that music now.

Oh yeah kernow, reminds me of my dad he loved that song. :'(

My favourite artist is David Bowie, old ziggy stardust stuff mainly
And on my phone is sweet child of mine. Guns n roses.

Better than most of the stuff around now.
Half of it I can't understand what there saying. Lol

Oldies are the best. Only a handful of nowadays do I like.
Getting old I suppose.  :(

Hi everyone.

Totally agree with you kernow, music is just everything to me.
If I ever lived on a desert island all I'd need is a radio!
Forget the tele, phones, I,pads etc, I don't need them.  :)

I remember that song ,think I know the Roberta Flack version.
Really good.

Music just lifts my low moods, makes me feel better, the tele and
Other things can't do that for me, if I never watched tele again
It wouldn't bother me.

Although I do like a good film.. ::)

Everybody hurts sometimes by R.E.M.
That song got me through one of the worst times of my life, I was very close to ending everything.
The words are so pertinent to the situation I was in that even now I'm transported to a time when there was so much pain it felt impossible to get through.
I used to play it over and over, sobbing to the words...but it gave me strength and although I'm not sure I've ever got back to where I was, I'm so grateful for that song.
My son was nearly 3 at the time and although he wouldn't remember the events he remembers this as a ‘special song'.

Hi kernow.

I know that song very well too.
Just made me think that everybody goes through a tough time
at some point in their lives.
It's how you come out the other end that's important.
What don't break us, makes us stronger.

So glad you got through your tough time. Stay strong.

Mary J Blige - I'm Fine

(even if some days it's not quite true......)

"So I like what I see when I'm looking at me
When I'm walking past the mirror
Don't stress through the night, at a time in my life
Ain't worried about if you feel it
Got my head on straight, I got my vibe right
I ain't gonna let you kill it
You see I wouldn't change my life, my life's just...

Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
Just fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
You see I wouldn't change my life, my life's just fine"

Thank you CLKD! I was only 17 when that song came out and was still at a giggly stage about sex! Still makes me giggle 🤭 and I can't imagine “getting it in the bathroom or in the hall” anymore  :boobs: !

On a classical note, Song for Athene by John Tavener is so peaceful and deeply spiritual, makes me breathe deeply so as I don't make a sound (can't do a link thing but just google the title - it's really worth a quiet 5 mins.

Yep.  I learned to play it on the piano - I was quite good in those days  ;D

Apparently Queen have reworded one of their songs to suit the current strange times but I can't remember which  ::) and Cap Tom recorded You'll Never Walk Alone with Michael Ball recently.  He had never heard it  :o until introduced to the idea .

I don't know what I would choose right now.  Need to get my thinking cap on  :D it's going to be all 1930s/40s over the weekend?

"Wouldn't it be Luvverly?" from my favourite old musical "My fair Lady" (I sang this in a school concert in the 70s and had a blue and white gingham skirt on!)

Hi Padine

I love "hands up" too!! It is by Ottawan :) just found it on Youtube and it reminds me so much of a family holiday many years ago.

My favourite song that uplifts me is One Day Like This by Elbow...the strings totally bring a lump to my throat and goosebumps!! x

“I’m just a girl who can’t say no !!”
                    and
“Didn’t we have a wonderful time the day we went to Bagnor?” I played piano for a junior choir (of about 30 children) singing this one, their other item in the concert was “The Floral Dance” - I think Terry Wogan was at no.1 at the same time, happy memories  :D
