Title: Armpits
Post by: Hezzalady67! on January 29, 2019, 08:27:28 PM
My armpits have gone weird. The right one has a large, soft lump in it like a lump of fat towards the front. The left is  a little mishapen, but is not as bad.

Anyone else have weird pits?

Mine are fleshy and I'm very conscious of them generally because I get hormonal breast discomfort which radiates out to my armpits when it's really bad. I'm quite big boobed and fleshy in this area. One side is fleshier than the other xx

I don't want to worry you unnecessarily but any lump in the armpit needs to be checked out for peace of mind as it is one of the things to look out for re breast cancer. Please get it checked and let us know how you get on.

Hezzalady - have you had your boobs checked recently?

My initial thought - make an appt. with your Practice Nurse.  Then let us know!

I had breast screening in the summer and all was good.

This has only been going on for about six weeks. It isn't like a boil. It is nearest to ‘axiliary breast tissue ‘from my googlings.

But the one side is much bigger. It's soft and painless. Maybe I should  get a check out x

Glad to hear your breast screening was good last Summer. Do as Taz and CLKD suggested and go and get it checked anyway xxx

It's important to still get any lumps checked out. My friend had the second most common type of breast cancer diagnosed four months after her mammogram after she found a tiny lump. She was told this type doesn't show up on a mammogram which is why self examination (which I'm very bad at doing) but thankfully she is extremely diligent over is very important.

Could be a skin cyst or one in the armpit gland.

If it's not hard I would be less concerned.

Always important to report any changes.  My breast lump wasn't found on mammogram but by examination in the bath: one night it wasn't, the next night it was palpable.  At operation it was 'non sinister', however, when it got to histology - still here >wave<

It could be laxity of muscles as oestrogen levels drop off causing bat wings ......... let us know?

Definitely get it checked. I'm currently waiting for biopsy results after I found a small lump that the consultant is very worried about. This did not show up on any mammograms and I've had plenty due to other breast surgery last August. Not trying to scare you, just important to not assume a mammogram will see everything x

Tried to get appointment with GP but when I told receptionist what it was about, it was like...oh, the nurse will do.

Anyway, nurse had a good feel around and said she could see what I meant, but it didn't feel like it was tracking from lymph glands and because I had breast screening, not too worried.

Then decided she didn't know what it was and I need to see the GP after all. Had the cheek to ask if I have read about the menopause or considered HRT...when I have already been post meno for years and was on HRT and ditched it ...read my noteesssss!!!!

Seeing GP later in the week .

I often get a blocked pore in my left pit.
I think it's deodorant....
When I squeeze it, it looks like damp talcum powder that comes out.....😬

Your Nurse had a good feel and isn't concerned.  To be absolutely certain she has referred you to the GP, pity that she couldn't call a GP 'over' to the room  ::).

Had she been sure it would have saved a GP appt. ;-).

Let us know how you get on.

I know, I just felt annoyed having to go out from work twice in one week when I had wanted to see the GP in first place.

I will let you know  :)

Did U see the GP?

No, I was given a GP phone call slot instead of an appointment and, as I was at work, I got caught up in something and missed the call! I will have to try again next week and hope for an appointment.

At our surgery the receptionists question you and decide what sort of appointment is needed, hence why I was sent to nurse. Suppose I could just say that I don't want to discuss it and please make me a GP appointment.

Receptionists shouldn't decide who you see, they're NOT medically trained,if you wish to see a dr,you can demand to do so

I would ask for a GP appt. particularly as the phone appt. didn't connect with you.  Some receptionists are now trained in triage.  Apparently.  But I don't like having to keep repeating my symptoms  >:(

I noticed a largish lump in my armpit about 2 years ago. I only noticed it because I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror, putting my hair up in a bobble before brushing my teeth and I could see one side of my armpit looked larger than the other.

I made an appointment after weeks of worrying to my husband, and straight away she put me on a potential cancer pathway. Within 10 days, I had a ultrasound scan at the hospital and they couldn't determine what it was so 12 days later I was seeing a sarcoma consultant at the hospital. Then 4 days later I had an MRI and within 5 weeks I was in the operating theatre. They suspected it was a benign lipoma, but the treatment and care I received was excellent. It was in fact a lipoma, although 7cms wide - it was harmless.

I post this not to worry you x but to support you in realising that you deserve to be taken seriously, treated respectfully and without needless delay.

It did seem like a very long time, and I did struggle so very much with the not-knowing, but really from initial appointment to surgery was very quick.

I felt whilst in the system of surgery, follow ups, treatments; for nearly a year; I was OK - it was after, when the support disappeared, that it hit me .......

That's pretty much what has happened to me. I still haven't been to GP, it was so frustrating being told by the receptionist almost that my concerns didn't warrant a GP.

Then, the nurse seemed to think because I'd had screening it wasn't an issue. But she did tell me to double check with GP, it is getting more uncomfortable though only a soft, fatty lump it is kind of getting ‘pinched' between my arm and pit... so I MUST persist.

It is so hard to get an appointment with the ‘ring at 0800' system and when at different offices for different meetings.

Do you not have a medical health office in your work place? If not, take time off?  You could show a Pharmacist they have private rooms now.

Tell them you have a lump in your armpit that could be a cancerous lymph node. If it could be cancer they have to act. I had a lump in my breast and I saw the GP the same day, it's usually a fortnight.
