Title: update
Post by: walking the dog on September 27, 2016, 10:31:41 AM
Been to menopause specialist my womb now 10mm options were 100 mg utrogestran continuous instead 200 asmade me crazy, analogies mini hrt for three month, provera but she said lots people hate it more Tha utrogestean or mirena
Or nothing!
Was in there an hour pondering options have totally been against it but decided on mirena as its got to point what do I have to loose ! She did a pipelle biopsy them fitted mirena both ok bit cramping that's all. I'm back in November for check up but van ring and have it removed anytime. She's also writing to consultant gynaecologist about hysterectomy possibility
So no further on really with my hormonal mood swings and hoping mirena doesn't make them worse. Looks like may have to try ADs again but I'm trying not to go on them due to limited response
So that's me ,😐

Good luck with the mirena; hope it works for you. Mostly, I think it is about getting a good enough solution, rather than a perfect fit.

Hi there.
I got a wee mirena two years ago. I did get a bit anxious soon after and settled it by taking 1mg of Oestrogen......
Hope it helps

Hi walking the dog - I presume you are still taking oestrogen as before (sorry can't remember what you had - I presume you are peri-menopausal - but I do remember your thick lining?). You may well get some bleeding for the first few months if your lining has thickened and it is likely to be irregular and possibly heavy initially, but as the progestogen gets to work the bleeding should stop. You should be able to start on a low dose oestrogen to help with the mood swings - ovulation still occurs with some women who have the Mirena so your cycle may carry on in the background. If ovulation does occur I'm not sure what happens re the progesterone you produce naturally as well as the progestogen from the Mirena? You may well still notice the mood swings from this as very little of the prog from the Mirena gets into the system. Sorry I don't really know and as you can probably tell I'm thinking aloud!!

Anyway do hope you are on the mend and things gradually improve for you....

Hurdity x :)

Thanks hurdity, I'm.still on the estradoit 50 patch but wondering if I up it too 100  if that would stop ovulation? Will ask menopause specialist in Nov. It was basically mirena or stop hrt . She said consultant gynaecologist wont consider me for hysterectomy unless tried all avenues , I just thought well nothing to loose my mood and pmt cant get any worse ! Be nice if mirena does help though. Had a lot of bleeding earlier due to the pipelle biopsy I think but less now. The menopause specialist was very up front with me regards my womb and cancer risk which I appreciated.
Will keep you all informed!

After I had mine fitted I had some strange feelings...one being when I sat down on the loo it felt like I had been stabbed up the middle  :-\
But it did all settle down after a couple of weeks.
Have you checked the strings for yourself yet?

I got swelling of the privates from using progestogen only pill. I don't know if it would have settled out because I also got swelling of breasts and significant increase in existing constipation problems, so I threw in the towel rather quickly. I never had a problem with it when younger. Are you on oestrogen too? I think this helps.

Thanks
Spoke to menopause specialist who fitted it she's assured me its linked to the pipelle biopsy and the clamp used to insert mirena should be ok in few days if not ring Monday, also managed to find the strings !
