I had my womb and fallopian tubes removed and kept ovaries and cervix, I recovered very well, though it took a while to get energy back.

Best of luck for tomorrow pixi.

Hi ladies,

Its 4am and got up for a cup of tea.  Not much pain at all, just bruising soreness.  The surgeon has removed my right hydrosalpinx (fallopian tube) and adhesions and they found a left ovarian cysts sent it off - all done laproscopically.  ;) x

Hi Pixie

that's brilliant news :)

Did they let you out the same day then?

take care xx

Hi Milliemoo,

Yes, they did let me out yesterday. I was glad about going because they have norovirus at our local hospital on the elderly wards, and it was touch or go whether it would be cancellled. It is just 24 hours and feel like I have been kicked by a horse, but otherwise ok and not painful.  I'll take the wound dressings off tomorrow as instructed.  They gave me none to go out with, which is a pain because there is some blood there, but all intact. Had the hassle of having to phone the doctors today and getting some, so that someone can pick them. Why can't the hospital discharge you with the stuff to begin. :( x

Rest and lots of fluids, so glad it wasnt cancelled as cancellations are nerve racking. Nice to get back to your own bed. Get well soon:D

That's so annoying isnt it Pixie.  Last time my ex was in hospital they sent him home with  insufficient medication  >:(  he's housebound so it was less then helpful.

Good that you feel ok in yourself.  I can imagine it does feel very much like you've been kicked by a horse though.  Some of that is the way they carry out keyhole surgery - tipping  you up and pumping your tummy full of air  :o

Hi Pixie

Just read your thread.  Sounds very positive, so sending you hugs and healing thoughts for quick recovery.

I hear you about the discharge without medication - nonsensical.

:Thanks, I look about 7months pregnant, but been for a walk around the block! I shouldn't have had lentil and veggie soup for lunch!!!  ;D

Its amazing what they can do keyhole these days.  My sister had her hysterectomy that way (keeping her ovaries), and recovered really quickly and was able to do long distance travel after a month! ....so if any of you need a hysterectomy - its maybe the way to go! x

Pixie so glad it went well and you are now home.

It seems absolutely stupid to discharge somebody, saying change the dressing.
Then  not supplying the dressing........ Duh    :o

Lentil and veggie soup sounds horribly like you are still dieting / fasting, surely not!
You need you strength, eat girl eat  ;)

Hi Limpy, no not dieting, in fact just eaten a whole lot of Italian Almond biscuits which were in a tin from Xmas!   They were very crunchy and ate the whole lot!! Anaesthetic always makes me crave things I never normally eat.  I feel a bit better now. X ;) ;)
Been for a walk.

Hi Pixie, very glad to hear you aren't dieting.
Almond biscuits sound to be just the thing   ;D

Enjoy the walks, they must help to make you feel "you" again.
Make sure you don't overdo it!

Just comparing how different my experience this time was to my the laproscopy I had done 13 years ago.  What a difference.  The first time, I was in a hospital bed and wheeled down.  The doctors/anasthetist came into the room to talk to me. I was wheeled into the anaesthetics room and not transferred to the theatre until asleep.

This time, I was on a trolley with 8 others also in the same bay. I was called out of the room to go into other rooms to speak to various medical staff.  When it was time to go to the op, I walked down and then had to sit in the holding bay, whilst I talked to the surgeon.  Afterwards I walked into the operating room and was asked to get on the table!  How things have changed with the cuts and how obvious the sad state of things in the NHS is.

Pixie how are you?

Things sound very different now to 13 years ago. How long did you have to wait around in the different bays?

Hope the wind has diminished.
Trust you've had less lentil and vegetable soup!   ;D
Title: Re: Bilateral salpingectomy
Post by: pixie on April 13, 2013, 06:21:06 PM
;D The wind has gone....as long as I don't talk too much! Wounds healing well - just a bit sore. No more lentils, but at least bowels working! x  I didn't have to wait for very long in the "holding bay". It was very similar to collecting a parcel from Amazon at my nearest post office depot!

Thanks for the medal. Paracetamol was the premed! :) x

Latest post op blog.  Doing well.  Been out walking twice and doing some light housework.  Continue to have soreness at incision sites and crampy pains - but healing.  However not taking as much pain relief now, so more noticeable!! No signs of infection and feeling well otherwise.

Tips for anyone having laproscopic surgery or any gynae/pelvic surgery.  Make sure your bowels are empty before operation.  I gave myself a glycerine suppository and as a result avoided a lot of tummy discomfort.  Take some peppermints or extra strong mints for afterwards.  It relieves the wind that they pump into you.  Also try and move about asap! ;)

I agree with moving around as soon as is possible following surgery.  It helps get the muscles moving, bowels active and any wind disippated  ;)

Had a job removing the see through dressings so much adhesive left on skin. However its all healed on outside and bruising nearly gone, but even small skin rolls sticking to each other. Wont't come off with soap and water - what a nuisance! ::) x

I better not use acetone nail varnish remover. :-X

Hi Limpy, been to get the hard lump checked out today. None on the other incisions.  He doesn't think its anything serious apart from thickening??, Having it scanned tomorrow at the gynae clinic, just to check for fluid collection, then i suppose it might need draining out with needle and syringe  :-\

Better to get it removed.  Lymph can cause problems if left for too long  ::) ........

It was all ok and no collection of fluid, the way it sutured.

Got normal left ovary and tube and uterus and shrivelled up ovary on right side. The tube was stuck to the pelvic wall, so no wonder its playing up a bit.  Anyway thanks for all support you have given me with all this :) x

Have been going on a bit haven't I?  Instead of U-tube of the day, it should read Your tube of the day! ::)

I had lumps and bumps all along my C section scar. Most of them smoothed out but I still have a few lumps at each end of the scar.

You have not been going on at all. Each person's story is a journey that can help others and if we can support you along the way then that's great.

Have any of you noticed, after surgery, feeling very up and down emotionally.  One is supposed to recover quicker with these laproscopic procedures, but like with any type of surgery it is intrusive and you have to deal with all the stuff about something being cut out of your body. It is a relief to get rid of something that causes you problems, but on the other hand, one isn't always prepared for the side effects!!
Anyway making efforts to get out and about in the day. Its at night when most of the thinking goes on when everyone else is asleep.  I did take oramorph for the first few nights, but have come off it because I don't need. Trying now to establish normal sleep pattern - again! X
Doesn't it seem to be getting hot again at night and then flippin'  tinnitus. Still don't know if it is caused by something in here, but as nobody can here anything - it must be. Then mum phoned to say she had had a very bad night on her new bed. :(
Going to see a play with a friend later, so that should cheer things up.

You've still had an operation whatever way it's done - I do think the hospitals/docs try to make light of laparoscopy procedures, probably to get everyone home same day.  Sounds good going to a play, enjoy and be good to yourself.

Hope you had a good time with your friend Pixie. Be gentle with yourself. Any operation is a shock to the body.  We don't know exactly what happens during any operation and how our body responds to the anaesthetic. Never mind the emotions we go through.

Hope you feel better soon

When I had 1 lot of surgery - my first - I was OK for the 1st week then the middle of the 2nd I had two very exhausting days, probably because of the effects of anaesthesia.  The 2 lots I had when my breast operation took place were strange too - I slept after the surgery until exactly 4.30 p.m., then woke feeling as if the remains fo the anaesthetic had wafted out of my body  ??? and I was really hungry.

Hi, turning the corner!  Had a nice time yesterday and also this afternoon.  My friend took me over to Thomas Hardy's cottage in Bockhampton, as they were doing a free voucher day with the National Trust, then went for  a walk.  We've just eaten a cream tea with 2 scones, jam, cream! :P :P x

Received a letter in the post today to say that the right tube which I had been removed showed previous inflammation but nothing untoward otherwise. That is a relief to know, especially  as I had decided not to opt for total hysterectomy which is what my GP had suggested!!   :)
