Title: thinking of stopping hrt after 4 months
Post by: toothbrush on February 19, 2015, 12:06:39 PM
hi everyone - can anyone help me with some advice?  started 4 months ago on elleste duet, but the second phase tablets made pmt pretty bad - so last month went back and have been given femaston instead.  much better with regards to the pmt - much calmer lol! BUT - since starting hrt my breasts have been unbearably sore - tothe point i am thinking the hot flushes would be better!  my flushes settled down after first month on hrt but last week i had a mild one ? is femaston not as strong as elleste - really dont want a higher dosage due to breast pain.  i went on hrt for the not flushes as it was affecting my sleeping badly - but the breast pain is just so sore.  i have tried starflower tablets which someone had recommended on here , but i am just so tender is making me think about stopping.  and my last period at end of elleste tablets was very heavy. the first gp i saw was lovely , but when i went back after first 3 months and said was struggling the other gp although she changed the hrt , wasnt particularly pleasant and didnt know why i really needed it!  getting to the point of trying without and seeing how a get on - has anyone stopped after a short time like this?

Starflower 1000mg with around 250mg GLA worked for me. How long have you been using them for may I ask? Took my boobs about 4 weeks to become less painful.

Hi Toothbrush

I started on Elleste duet back in end of June 2013, after 3 months i stopped it as the prog part (green tablets) didn't suit me i felt terrible. I spent the next the next 6 months not using anything but just couldn't cope any more, just seemed worse than before Elleste. Went to GP and her for Femoston 1/10 so started that in April 2014. first few months were ok had a bleed each month, then nothing for a few months. i did have sore boobs the odd time, but that doesn't bother me. It is close to our own hormones and a good one to get, it takes a bit of time to build up in your system, i would say after 10 months on it i feel good better than i have done in a long time, I have just started the 2/10 as i wasn't getting a break through bleed. I think you need to give it more time say 3-6 months to feel the benefit. If you look at my post "Look how far I've come " you'll see how different i have been.

Again if you feel HRT just isn't for you then you can stop and see how you get on, maybe find something else more suitable.
x

St Johns wort took away my hot flushes which were awful. Im on HRT now so had to stop taking it, but if you do decide to stop taking it I'd suggest trying it.

I have been on Femoston for 5 months and this has happened a couple of times, although the first time happened across two packs.

I think it is probably my own random perimenopausal hormones doing their own thing in the background.  Last month, I had nothing whatsoever, and very little bleeding too, and felt fine.

i have been using the starflower for about 6 weeks but not really seeing any improvement.  i had another flush last night - so what worries me if i need higher dosage will that make the breast pain even worse?  i suppose i have only done one month on the femaston so shall keep going , i think the fist tablets tho are the same as the elleste , which is what i thought would be causing the breast pain , so disappointed things not settled down after 4 months. maybe i am being too impatient!! ;)

Toothbrush
Try and give it another 2 months if you can. Are you having breakthrough bleeds ? Also is the breast pain constant or only at certain times of the month ? X

hi millykin - breast pain is constant - never improves :(. have had regular bleeds since starting the hrt 4 months ago - first 2 months very light and i was like 'this is goo' then last month mega heavy.  have one more tablet to finish on first course of femaston so shall see if different compared to the elleste.

I am on elleste duet and first month was good, second month I got really emotional with progesterone and finally a period. GP wants to stay on elleste for another 3 months for things to settle down. I am interested to see if femeston would be better so let us know how you get on please.

will do.  i am definately more balanced on the femaston haha !  although dont think my husband would agree. when i was on the elleste it was like i was 'wired' . really snappy and intolerant  >:(.  i feel pretty calm this month. not alot of change , whereas the elleste was like a switch flipping when i changed onto 2nd phase of tablets.

I was the same with Elleste but do give Femoston a good chance things will settle on it x

Hi Toothbrush

thats brilliant news.

I'm sure this will give those of us that suffer with this on and off a bit of hope.

Keep letting us know how it goes.

I just hope its not a flush in the pan (sorry a terrible pun) :)

Restless legs can be vitamin and mineral related especially low iron and anemia,
Plus we have to watch out for that when we're having heavy bleeds too.  :(

I have read that somewhere about irons levels, I take a good vit supplement eat plenty fruit and veg but I was going to start taking iron supplements in case. Last time I had levels checked they were ok but too me ok could have been just at bottom of range and some of us need bit more, x

Hi MillyKin.

remember to watch with iron.

A lot of vitamin supplements have either low daily amounts or none.
If your vits do have iron check how much first, then check if you need to get an iron only supplement.

Too much iron can be really bad for us too so just do the checks first.

Also when it comes to iron absorbtion like a lot of other vitamins, its good to eat with Vitamin C.

Like calcium needs vit D, iron needs vit C to absorb more fully.

Hope that helps

Thanks I will check supplements first. I should know better as my daughter was anemic for years all down to coeliac which took all nutrients from her and what it done to her other organs, but as usual we don't always check for our selfs always looking after kids! X
