Title: Low Mood, Tearfulness and Now Shaking Legs.
Post by: Kathleen on October 21, 2020, 12:31:29 PM
Hello ladies.

I am expecting a phone call from my GP surgery soon to discuss my low mood and tearfulness. I stopped all HRT fifteen months ago and I assume my current sorry state is a result of low hormones.

I have noticed that now I am experiencing a shakiness in my legs when my mood dips and I feel weepy.  Do any of you wonderful ladies think this symptom is related to low hormones?

I am a bit disappointed that I am being treated by a nurse rather than a doctor. I worry that I may be suffering from another condition possibly related to my Ulcerative Colitis or hypothyroidism or even something else entirely that the nurse won't have the expertise to diagnose. Unfortunately speaking to a doctor is proving difficult!

If anyone has also experienced shaking legs as a meno symptom I would love hear from you.

Wishing you well ladies and take care.

K.

Sorry, no experience but didn't want to leave you with no replies. Hopefully somebody else will reply soon. I haven't heard of shaking legs being a meno symptom. Is low blood sugar a possibility? I agree with you, you should be seen by a doctor. Perhaps the nurse could facilitate this?

The only time i experienced shaking legs was when i was very anxious about something and it was a prelude to a  panic attack.  I dont think its meno related and its  very frustrating not being able to get to actually see a doctor at the moment which could be causing your anxiety.  The nurse should be able to help with this.

Hi Kathleen
Maybe it's just an off day with the shaky legs, maybe a nerve is trapped ?

So sorry your feeling so low. I feel you've done brilliantly being off hrt despite you maybe not feeling so brilliant. Give yourself a hug x you deserve one.

Your not alone in this, there are thousands of us women with a multitude of symptoms.  It will all ease I'm sure. After hardship comes ease x

Hope you got to speak to doctor although I prefer the nurse at my surgery, she is super knowledgeable ref menopause ☺️
Love to all x

Hi Kathleen
I used to feel shaky all over, including an awful internal shaking in my stomach region.

I definitely think your symptoms are due to low oestrogen.

Hello ladies and thank you all so much for your replies.

I had a long chat with the nurse over the phone yesterday. She was very helpful and sympathetic and has referred me to a gynaecologist who has a special interest in the menopause. She also wondered if my symptoms of low mood and tearfulness are anxiety related so I have agreed to see the mental health team.

I am grateful for the referrals and I hope that I don't have to wait too long to see someone.

Many thanks again ladies and wishing  you all well.

Yes you’ll have anxiety due to low oestrogen. Don’t let them fob you off with anti-depressants if you don’t want them Kathleen x

I get shaky legs just before I start a period - along with feeling down and tearful.

Hello again ladies.

5hank you so much for replying.

Perinowpost -  I assume that my oestrogen is rock bottom but I hoped that by some miracle I would have adapted better by now. Oh well. The tearfulness is an old symptom that was fairly mild in the past but is more intense and frequent now.

Dorothy -  I can totally relate to what you have said. At least back in the day there would be relief when the period started!

Thanks again ladies and I'll update with any progress.

Wishing you all well.

Hi Kathleen, Have you had thyroid hormones levels tested recently? Maybe your thyroid medication needs to be reduced because you've stopped HRT, estradiol can decrease thyroxine levels by increasing thyroxine binding globulin production in the liver. Shaking legs can be a symptom of hyperthyroidism.

The wobbly, shaky strange feelings in the legs were definitely low Estrogen symptom for me, I also couldn’t walk in a straight line, this symptom finally easy 3 months in for me, got worse initially on HRT.

Hello ladies.

Thank you all so much for your comments.

Uptick. - You make a good point about my Thyroid meds. I actually came off HRT about five months before being diagnosed with Hashimoto's but it's good to know about estradiol and thyroxine.

Floo36 - I'm sorry to hear that you had the same problem. The fact that it was worse initially on HRT but then eased after three months seems to confirm the hormonal connection.

DS68 - thank you for your question, it's very kind of you to ask. I have my moments of calm but the old shakes are still a problem unfortunately.

Jaycee -  yep, it isn't just the legs that shake but my stomach and chest also. I think Dotty has said that her problems disappeared when she got her oestrogen levels right on HRT.  Hopefully she will correct me if I've got that wrong.

Thanks again ladies. It helps so much to share these worries with you on this wonderful forum.

Wishing you all well.

Hi Kathleen

Sorry - like me your still struggling.

I am sure its due to low Estragon as I suffer weak wobbly legs, brain fog etc. I also take 100mg Leveroxine. I have tried to manage on 2 pumps of oestrogel for around 2 years but to be honest the last 6 months have been horrendous. GP no help as she keeps saying it must be anxiety as at 61 I should be through the other side :(

Never had problems sleeping but for 6 weeks waking and feeling panicky, burning. No energy morning sweats, clammy along with all other symptoms. I have just ordered some patches myself to see if that helps. GP keeps telling me to stop HRT...… 5 years of this crap now and Im fed up.

Sorry for the rant but I feel for you Kathleen x

Hello warwick01

Thank you for your reply.

I am also fed up of being on this roller-coaster!

My last period was in 2010 and I have experienced many meno symptoms since then. I am 64 and  my latest one is frequent tearfulness plus my brain fog is a lot worse. I am amazed that I have any oestrogen receptors left to complain about their lack of hormone!

I am already taking an AD and I am not so much depressed as despondent that my life is being dominated by my unruly hormones.

I wish you luck with your patches and please let me know how you get on with them.

Take care and sending hugs.

K.

Thanks Kathleen

I hope you find some relief soon.

In my opinion we ask for help, we talk to our friends of the same age but is it just me but know one appears to suffer to the extent I have. The only thing I have in evidence this is hormonal was seeing how bad my Nan and mother suffered physically and mentally - although they never spoke about it..... just 'it was the change' that caused them to suffer an almost breakdown. So I am going to find the solution myself as currently I have no quality of life. I go out very little always making excuses and telling myself it will get better. Unfortunately it isn't getting any better - in fact its getting worse.

Hello again warwick 01.

I know what you mean about quality of life. I can manage my day to day activities but the thought of doing anything different, especially away from home, makes me very anxious.

It goes without saying that this never used to be the case. To quote my trusty meno book " women describe subtle sensations such as trembling, fluttering, unease and discomfort. More severe feelings of anxiety or  panic can arise with little provocation. Tasks that you used to be able to tackle can leave you in total disarray".

Have you had any meno symptoms that have now left? I take heart from the fact that some of my symptoms have gone and I hope the rest take a hike pretty soon as well!

Wishing you well.

K.
