Title: Hi Everyone!
Post by: Rosie2 on April 12, 2016, 02:36:14 PM
Hi, just wanted to say hello to everyone. I found this forum when browsing, trying to find information about menopause, cos I thought I was going crazy.
After reading a lot of the posts on here, I now feel that I am not alone!
I had my last period 16 months ago. At first I wasn't  too bad, but about 6 months ago, I just felt like I had been hit with a train! Everything changed, I started having flushes day & night, disturbed sleep, mood swings, can't  concentrate, no interest in things anymore & always very tired.
I am having blood tests this Thursday, to check lots of different things that could be causing the tiredness, thyroid, diabetes, iron etc. I have had Iron deficiency before, but I've never felt like this, so don't  think that will be the problem.
I will book to see my doctor  after the blood results come back, I just hope I can get some answers & some help, I definitely  need something, I can't  go on like this. I need my life back.
I am so glad I found this site x

Hi and welcome to MM Rosie2 - Do read up everything on this site - particularly the TREATMENTS section at the top of this page and get really clued up. Print stuff off to take with you to the GP and write down your symptoms and questions so you don't forget anything.  It's so easy to get emotional when visiting the Gp and forget what you wanted to ask and GPs will so often send you away with ADs instead of HRT if the think you are depressed.  Keep us posted.  Dg x

hi Rosie

I joined the forum less than a week ago and can honestly say what a help it has been to feel others identify with how I'm feeling and to read other ladies' experiences.  We are not alone, albeit virtually.  I'm in PM but it's hit me hard recently and the support and info on here is fab.  I'm waiting to see the GP, I'm going to write everything down, it's a good idea.  Hopefully it'll help you x

Rosie2, welcome to MM!

Depending on what comes back in your blood tests results, I would say you are definitely a candidate for HRT.  All the symptoms you describe are classic menopause symptoms as a result of oestrogen deprivation and the only thing that will really help is HRT.  I would suggest you have a look at the treatment options on here to get some ideas before you go back to your doctor.

I use Oestrogel/Utrogestan and have found it to be the best HRT regime my far.  I have tried many others but none are anywhere near as good as this one so I would recommend it.

Please let us know how you get on.

 Hello,
I've just got blood test results, everything ok, except my Vitamin D is a bit low, so I have to take supplements. I have to wait until next Friday to see the Dr.
I feel terrible today exhausted, aching, stressed, juse can't  be bothered with anything. Mood very low.
I'm just so glad I found this site, because it is such a big help, to hear from other people who are going through the same thing, & who understand you.

Hi, I have to buy it myself. Going to get some in the morning. Then hopefully next week GP  will decide what to give me to help with all what's happening to me. Thanks for your reply x

Hello ladies, I decided to post again, as I am very confused & worried. My last P was Dec 2014, so does that mean I am Post Menopausal?  I have managed to get a GP appt for tomorrow (not my usual GP), but worrying myself silly about everything.  My older sister had Breast Cancer, so should I be concerned about HRT treatment? I know I need some help, I cannot cope with all these symptoms  for much longer. I have read a lot of the information  on this site, which is very interesting & informative, but I am still very mixed up. Can anyone help please x

Sorry about your sister having had breast cancer.  I don't think this necessarily rules HRT out for you but you will need to see someone who specialises in hormones, the menopause and HRT like Professor John Studd.  I am not sure that anyone else will be able to advise you because it is not a straightforward case.

It would also be important for you to take the right type of HRT and you would need specialist advice on that.

Rosie2 - you haven't given us your age? Discuss your options with the GP and see if there is a NHS meno clinic in your area to get more specialist advice.  If it is only a sister in your family who has had BC then this may not be genetic - I think there needs to be  a stronger family history for there to be a real issue and as others have said it depends on the type of BC. 5 years of HRT in your 50s may be fine. Quality of life is very important and if HRT is really not an option then there are other treatments that could help.  Good luck  Dg x

Hello again,
I am 51, 52 in July. I'm seeing the GP this afternoon. I've read lots of information on this site, & really appreciate  all the advice & suggestions you have all given me.
I just hope I get a good response from the GP today, I can't  carry on feeling this way, just general day to day chores are a struggle. So fingers crossed for my appt. x

Hello,
I had appt with GP on Monday, it went really well.
She seems to think that I am suffering with depression, although I have menopause symptoms too. She has put me on Anti Depressants, Trazadone 100mg to start, she says they have a sedative in them that will help me to get some sleep. I see her again in 4 weeks time & she asked me to think about having a 3 month trial of HRT.
I have slept really well, waking up a couple of times instead of the usual between 6 &  14 times. I feel a bit groggy in the morning, but then ok. So far so good.
I have had a tough time recently. On December  20th last year, my husband was driving home from work at 2 am & a lady flagged him down, he stopped, & she could hardly breath, he got out of his van, the next thing a couple came & the male attacked my husband with an iron bar, & luckily 2 men came along, & held the man, so my husband could get away, if they hadn't,  we don't  think he  would be alive today. My poor husband was taken to A & E,  I got a call from the Police, & i went straight to the hospital, still not sure how I managed to drive, I was worried sick. When I saw him it was a shock, he was grey & just cried when he saw me. They gave him pain relief & x ray,  they said his shoulder was broken, & he should return to  the  Fracture Clinic 2 days later to see a consultant. He couldn't  even stand up. Anyway I had to get a wheelchair & a sick bowl & head for the car park, it was a nightmare, he was screaming with pain, I drove most of the way home at 10 mile an hour with Hazards on. When we went back to the Fracture Clinic they booked him in for MRI  scan on Christmas Eve, & he saw the consultant straight after. He said the shoulder was fractured but also the bone was shattered & would need a metal plate & pins. The operation was booked for New Years Eve. The op went as well as they expected, he now as physio & hydrotherapy, but he is still in severe pain. The surgeon says he may have to have another op  (but keyhole surgery this time) to release the scar tissue. Our world as been turned upside down, it's been terrible, but we will get through it eventually, I hope.
Well I'm so sorry ladies to blurt all this out, but even though I am knew to the site, I feel like I can open up to you all, & it makes me feel better.
So thank you x

How awful!  We never stop for anyone not even in Uniform.  Hopefully the Police are active in their investigations?  Yo should by now have been contacted by Victim Support and have a liaison officer appointed.

You rant and share if it helps.  It may be a while B4 you stop thinking what might have happened and hopefully the regime your GP has suggested will help.  Sleep helps us function which is why deprivation is used as a torture method, now that you are getting good quality sleep you will feel better all round.

What HRT did your GP suggest?  Browse round, make notes ;-).

The GP didn't  suggest any particular HRT, said she will discuss  further when I go back.
Yes the police have been really good & victim support too.

Is Hubby able to talk about it?  Journalling can help if not .

Yes, he can talk about it now, but journaling is a good idea, because every time we speak about it he says something else that he had forgotten about, so if he writes it down, it could be very useful. x
