Post menopausal bleeding
« on: November 15, 2025, 03:40:51 PM »

Hello I am new to the forum and find myself here after a very worrying week. I am 54 and three years period. Free after a relatively smooth menopause. Prior to the menopause I had heavy periods every two weeks and then it was as though somebody had just switched off the tap and they stopped. My worry all start at approximately 2 to 3 weeks ago when I was experiencing lots of a reflex which eventually subsided. This was followed by extremely sore breasts, needing to go to the loo for a number two a lot more frequently for two or three days, feeling very emotional and crying and anxiety high. I joked and said to my mum if I didn’t know better I would think I was getting a period as everything was textbook and sure enough the Wednesday morning I woke to a period. I was shocked. I had light bleeding for a day also and then Thursday evening it came really heavy just like I used to have them. I contacted my GP and have been referred to Guiney with an appointment on Thursday coming but I am beside myself with worry. I work in a GP surgery and they seem less concerned as I have had all the period symptoms but I have read everywhere you cannot just get a period after the menopause. without an underlying reason! Anybody else had this concern. I have never so much as had a stomach pain, cramps, spotting or anything until now. Thankyou

any difference in your progesterone? I started spotting a day after starting on generic progesterone tablets rather than utogesten along with awful stomach cramps, pounding headache and more! I got sent for a scan which showed thickened lining and then had to come off HRT for 6 weeks (it actually was 7 and a bit by the time i went back to the dr) Once  I had a withdrawal bleed from stopping the HRT no more bleeding but as many horrible menopause symptoms that you could possibly have I had for those HRT free weeks. Review at dr we (I!) decided it was definitely the change of progesterone that caused it all and I'm back on the original one and gradually feeling more 'human' again!

No I’m not taking any HRT or anything. It’s really odd because as soon as the ‘period’ started all the PMT symptoms went away. Just as you would expect it to!
