Mirena
« on: October 15, 2025, 06:34:57 AM »

Morning all.
I due to have a mirena fitted next week.
My gp and specialist have both suggested dropping to evorel 75 initially. Currently using 2 x evorel conti (as per specialist instruction). I'm not sure why as a patch and a half wasn't helping with symptoms.
Also my gp has said I need to wait a week before starting with the estrogen only patch. I don't think I can go a whole week with no estrogen.

Does this sound right?
I think eventually I'm going to have to change how I get estrogen delivered. Maybe the spray or gel.

Thanks all 😊

Having unopposed oestrogen will do you no harm for such a short time. I was allowed up to 3 months on oestrogen only when I was starting out on HRT and struggling with the progesterone side. Once you are fitted with the Mirena, you will be covered anyway.

If you switch from a patch, bear in mind that the spray is quite weak and there is no licensed equivalent dose to the highest doses from  gel or patches.

Your GP is talking through her backside. You should continue with the 100mcg patches but change to oestrogen only when the mirena is fitted. If you go without for a week your symptoms will return. If 75mcg wasn't enough before it's unlikely it will be now. Why do you think you will have to change to gel or spray?
