Hi Julia, I tried to use the wax ear plugs last night but they were far too big for my ear canals. With the foam ones you can roll them into a thin tube and push them in but the wax ones you can change the shape but not the size. Maybe I could cut them in half. I haven’t tried the silicone ones yet. I’m going to try and moisturise my ear canals with olive oil drops today, should be interesting  ;D

I moisturise my ear canals with emu oil (not for everyone, I know, due to ethics) I've found it best to put the oil on a cotton bud and then use that to gently rub over the dry skin. Obviously you have to be mindful not to push the cotton bud too far into the ear canal but I find it works better than trying to drop the oil in or trying to use a finger. My husband also has dry skin in his ears and does the same.

If emu oil is a by-product of the meat trade, what's to worry about?

I do wonder whether using ear plugs on a regular basis may well invite bacteria into the whole Eustachian tube = more problems.

Thanks for the tip about the cotton buds, I might try that tomorrow. Today I put jojoba oil in with my finger and it worked a treat. Apparently jojoba oil is very similar to our natural skin oils.

I have worried about this in the past but I wash my hands first and use a new pair of earplugs each time so I think I should be ok.

If they're far too big you can roll them thinner in your hands then cut some off with a knife. They're never the right shape immediately but if you leave them in your ears to warm up for a few minutes first it's much better. I put them in as I get undressed them squash them down to plug the gaps later. I couldn't get on with foam ones, they never seemed to be the right shape for my ears!
