side effects of increasing estrogen

Hi, i started hrt 8 months ago and although I am happy if is working for me its been a long & bumpy road. The menopause nurse at my surgery moved me from 3 sprays lenzetto to 4 pumps of estrogel as 3 sprays wasn't helping my insomnia. I used 4 pumps for 3 days, felt awful & reduced to 3. I've spent the last 2 months on 2.5/3 pumps a day but decided to give 4 pumps another try to really test whether it would help with the insomnia (i decided that I had been too hasty previously and that the awful feeling was more likely due to the sharp increase between spray & pump. I'm on day 2 now and have started with period pains, I belive this is probably my body getting used to the new dose but does anyone have any experience of this?

1.5 pumps is quite a bit increase. It might be better to stay on 3 for a month before increasing again.
