Blocked eye oil glands
Dierdre:
Had dry itchy eye for a few weeks especially in the inner corner so went to the opticians this week. I've now got an moist eye mask to heat up 2 or 3 times a day and drops. First lot of drops caused pain in the back of my eye so now on a gel called viscotears which is better. Been bathing the eyes with cooled boiled salt water which is soothing and stops the itch. Having some good days and trying to do much less screen time. Stopped using my eye cream and makeup. Any other advice please and how long this takes to get better, going on holiday in a week so hoping for an improvement.

You could add in some antihistamine eye drops as my blepharitis is always worse when pollen is high.

I'm reluctant to try anymore drops as I'm super sensitive to everything. Tried Boots eye drops for dry irritated eyes and their Night Gel but all made it worse. Optician told me to use Hycosan and they were the worse, had reaction and pain in the back of eye. I'm not usually a hayfever sufferer so think this blockage may have been caused by new eye cream I've been using for a couple of months. I've also had dry eyes before but put that down to age and loss of estrogen. Hopefully the heat mask will get the glands flowing again.

Hello Dierdre
I haven't had this problem myself but a close friend has. She has been recieving treatment from her GP which has included eye drops, heat pads and massaging of the eye area. She has followed this plan daily and her dry eyes are much improved. She is very post meno and has never used systemic HRT only topical. Perhaps your GP will be able to offer something stronger for you to try.
Take care.
K.

My go to with anything with my eyes such as styes etc. is the old wives tale of using cold tea - I just make black tea, let it cool right down then pop the tea bag on my eye and leave it for a few minutes, I do this this a few times a day until it is fixed, certainly gets rid of styes very quickly but I don't know about anything else ...
