Hi Mariab
Yes I felt that too which is why I got mine removed quite quickly.  I did feel a bit better once I had it removed but not sure if that was just psychological or if removing the hormone helped, I wouldn't say it helped dramatically but I was glad to get the hormones out ! I am thinking if I ever want to try HRT again I will just try the progesterone pill instead.  It's tricky isn't it. I still have residual anxiety (nothing like it was before I started Citalopram) but I'm hoping that settles in time or maybe I just have to live with it.

Ok so,
I have had to start my gel again..but only half a pump to start with.....after a few days of re starting my irritability lifted...I am still very tired and having dizzy spells and I became hotter than ever...so I feel I really do need the extra eastrogen...
So atleast that question has been put to rest... :)

Hello ladies.

I am also taking a break from HRT but I am a long way post meno so no fluctuations to deal with.

I am almost two months without gel and so far I feel okay.

My main issues are the emotional ones and my moods are still changeable but possibly not too bad. I am having a few mild flushes and night sweats ( the hot weather isn't helping) and my VA symptoms are more noticeable especially at certain times of the day. On the whole I am doing okay so I am not tempted to resume HRT at the moment.

I will update the forum as I go but there haven't been any dramas yet lol.

Take care ladies.

Hi ,
I stopped hrt cold turkey ln march still have a coil in and still use ovestin.
I had 7 years on hrt patches then gel was so sick of feeling absolutely crap everyday it only helped the hot flushes for me .
Never helped with anxiety or insomnia I take amitriptyline for that .

I got sick of the whole guessing game of am I using too much or not enough is this a side effect or something else so I quit to see how I was without it.
The first month or so was rough not so much menopause symptoms coming back but estrogen withdrawal my body had been used to using it , but slowly those symptoms eased I feel better in many ways but I am left with hot flushes not many in the day but the night sweats are on and off every night but I can handle it for now , biggest symptom that went away was the constant lightheaded feeling horrible fuzzy head , that was definitely the estrogel , I won’t say I will never go back on it but for now I definitely feel better without it I’m 51 but I had a very early menopause, I feel free of chasing the symptoms with the dose of hrt if you know what I mean.
Good luck hope it goes well for you x

I know this is an oldish post but I was wondering if your fuzzy head got worse when you first stopped? I’ve been suffering with this for months. I’ve been on and off HRT but I stopped it a couple of days ago and the horrible head feeling is worse! Not sure whether to see if it passes as the oestrogen wears off or to re start the HRT!

Hi Helenmelon1974

Sorry to hear the fuzzy head is getting worse for you , I can only go off my own experience.
When I stopped the estrogel my symptoms definitely increased for a while the fuzzy head did get worse , the first 4 weeks were the worst but I stuck it out and that feeling subsided and I was left with just the hot sweats.
If it’s only been a couple of days maybe give it a bit longer, but if it’s unbearable only you can decide if you need to re start it .
Did the fuzzy head only begin on estrogel or was it one of your original symptoms of menopause, you may of already tried but maybe patches won’t have this effect on you it might be worth considering a change in hrt if you haven’t tried already or it could be your dose isn’t right it’s very difficult to know and it can become a constant game of I am too high, too low , is it a side effect or a menopause symptom not being controlled on hrt , frustrating and exhausting at times .
Also depends if you are peri or post .
How long have you been on hrt? Has it helped you with other symptoms.
I can only suggest giving it a bit longer to see if it subsides but don’t suffer if you can’t stand it maybe try a different method of hrt .
Wishing you all the best I know it’s very difficult to get hrt right x
