Jitters after upping my oestrogel
« on: September 30, 2025, 04:21:30 PM »

Hi
Apologies to anyone seeing my posts already. This is a new one. I am not having a good time!

Post menopausal, longstanding on Citalopram 20mg for anxiety, which has quite literally saved my life. No issues on that for 10÷ years. Started HRT on 8th July for increasing morning scaries which became unbearable. V quickly seen benefits on 2 pumps oestrogel and  100mg micronised Progesterone daily. 8 weeks later anxiety returned. My GP thinks its Progesterone sensitivity and has referred me to menopause clinic but in the meantime told me to increase my oestrogel to 3 pumps which Ive done last Thursday, so we are 5 days in.

Im experiencing not what I'd call anxiety (im an expert) but agitation, very jittery like Ive downed 10 espressos, incredibly emotional and teary. Im presuming these are symptoms due to increasing the dose and will even out? Im actually not convinced Im intolerant to Progesterone and its more due to not finding the right balance yet.

Its highly unpleasant and I just feel incredibly disillusioned with it all.

Hello Lucoley and welcome to the forum.

The description of your jittery feeling certainly resonates with me, I also feel over caffeinated and emotionally very unstable.

I am post meno and found that HRT didn't help in every respect so I stopped taking it about six months ago, consequently several of my old meno symptoms have returned and some that had remained have increased in intensity ( what fun ).

I also believe that the trick is to have hormones that are balanced so the body can adapt and presumably this happens to women who find a regime that suits them. I imagine this also happens to post meno women who are not on HRT.

Unfortunately I never did get the balance right and my disillusionment has led me to try going without HRT to see if I can find some stability without adding hormones.

Hopefully other ladies will be along to offer their advice.

Wishing you well and take care.

K.

No answers, but l’ve got the jitters today first time for many months. Just started out of the blue. I’m going to a yoga class this afternoon and hoping that will help.

The mysteries of the female body 🤷‍♀️

Too much oestrogen or too big and increase can you make you jittery. You might try reducing down to 2 pumps until the jittery feeling has gone then increase slowly with part pumps.

Thank you ladies for the wisdom. I really appreciate it.

The jitters have calmed down and Ive had a couple of decent days. I think I just haven't found the correct balance on hrt yet. Bloody awful isn't it? One thing I found really helps, perhaps its placebo (I dont care) is really working hard on my water consumption. Ive a new found hatred of mornings, oh how I despise the morning anxiety and dread. And if I have ANY plans aside from work Im walking around feeling like a lamb going to slaughter.

We will get there.
