Any experiences with Slynd as HRT component

Hi,

Looking for a bit advice, Age 46 and on Evorel Sequi + Desogestrol 75mg daily. Recently started to get migraines (with aura) again after avoiding them for a year or so. They have been happening on the progesterone part of my patch every month. Prior to the aura migraines starting again, I was getting headaches while on the progesterone weeks on patch.  I've recently had appointment with doctor to discuss.

I have always gotten on better a continuous stream of hormones. Doctor has recently prescribed Utrogeston 200mg 2 weeks every month. I am genuinely terrified to start them. She says I need to take them to see how I get on before potentially moving to a regime of Evorel 50 + 100mg Utrogeston daily. My migraines have been quite debilitating and have resulted in days off work...and I just can't bring myself to 'test' them out as I don't cope very well my migraines.

I was on desogestrel for migraine control before starting HRT, which more or less stopped them. I do however spot continuously on desogestrel, but put up with it because of the lack of migraine. My mood tends to be a little flat too, but again, not the worst.

I am considering Slynd as the progesterone component of my HRT, I've done lots of reading up and think it might be a good choice for me and would mean that I would only be taking one form of progesterone with HRT instead of my current regime of progesterone 2 weeks per month plus desogestrel daily. Not sure if my doctor will prescribe - but I am happy to buy Slynd privately.

I'm really keen to hear if anyone has had similar experiences and if anyone has had success using Slynd + Estrogen only HRT.

Big thanks  :)

Hi sparkleimp,

I've been on oestrogel + Slynd for a couple of weeks now. See https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,70777.0.html.

You seem to be mainly concerned with migraines. My main concern was puffy eyes, but I'm also assuming that the puffy eyes are the mere tip of an unpleasant iceberg.

Obviously you have a very different history and set of concerns than I have, so what kinds of things would you like to know?

Hi Midnight Skulker,

Thanks for sharing. I had a wee look over your previous thread....thank you - did you find the sweet spot with the estrogen? Are your eyes are getting better?

I have bit the bullet and bought some Slynd to take. I think taking 1 progesteron makes more sense. I am anxious about the migraines, but from what I've read, Slynd prevents ovulation in the same way as my current pill does, so it should help. My migraines were happening during the progesterone weeks of patch, so hoping that taking progesterone as a constant will help so much more.

How has your mood been on Slynd? I feel like I'm just getting back to my old self after stopping the norethisterone component of patch. (HRT is such a minefield!) I've heard a lot of positive feedback about Slynd - so fingers crossed!

I have no personal experience with Slynd but know others have had good experiences.

Just wanted to let you know that 2*desogestrel taken continuously every day is also an option for your progestogen, if the Slynd doesn't work out.

There is no good reason why someone with migraines, or someone who is amenorrheic on the mini pill, should be prescribed cyclical HRT.

Whatever you take, continuous is better for those with hormone related migraines.
