Sequi Evorel... is it right for me?
« on: July 26, 2021, 06:36:33 PM »

Hello everyone  :)
I'm new to this forum and looking for some advice as I'm at my wits end!
I've been suffering from what I believe were perimenopause symptoms for a few years now (I'm now 49). Panic attacks, anxiety, depression, dizziness, tiredness, full-on PMT, late periods etc. HORRIBLE!
I've had most of the symptoms checked out during various trips to A&E and the GP and there's been no underlying cause.
Which brings me to HRT! I started on Evorel Sequi on June 23 (over a month ago). I have endometriosis and fibroids and my gynae consultant wasn't all that keen on me going on HRT. BUT the 'menopause doctor' seemed insistant. GP wanted me to go on antidepressants, but I just couldn't face all the side effects right now  :(
I am not sure if I've just not given it enough time but I seem to have gone worse... headaches, dizziness, feelings of hopelessness, tired, sweaty... nightmare! :'(
I am thinking, did I need HRT? Have I now got too much oestrogen? I don't know when I'll get to speak to the meno doctor again, so just reaching out for some advice. I ripped my patch off today in absolute temper and despair and not sure if I should stick another back on!

Hi Lisa
Sorry to read your suffering
They do say keep the regime for 3 months as sometimes takes that long for things to settle.

For some it works wonders first time and others takes a few attempts

I’m on first attempt and my first month was great however the past 3 have not been with  aniexty & other symptoms Etc etc & I don’t know if I have too much
Or too less
I’m undecided whether to throw in towel for same reasons maybe I don’t need it. But first month it helped
Maybe Give it time or maybe as you said speak to meno doc ..
it’s tough I totally sympathise with you

Someone with more knowledge will come along and hopefully advise you better
But wanted to let you know your not alone.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re having the same issues! It’s just awful not knowing what to do for the best. At one point, I felt they were briefly working, like I had a bit of energy but that soon faded 😂 I’ll let you know what the doctor says if I hear from her. Thanks so much for replying xxx

Hi Lisa. Michelle is right that each HRT should be tried for three months to see if it suits or not. As you are on sequi HRT I'm wondering whether you have felt worse during the last two weeks of patches which is when the progesterone is added. The progesterone in Evorel is Norethisterone which can cause low mood and/or PMT type symptoms. If this is what's making you feel not so good and you feel no better after the three month settling down period then you could change the progesterone for one which suits you better.

It is tricky for you also as oestrogen can cause endo and fibroids to increase and does need careful managing to make sure you do feel relief from Meno symptoms without worsening the other problems

Hi Taz,
Thanks so much for your reply, actually it seems that the oestrogen bit makes me worse 😫the progesterone made me a bit irritable the first few days but it was 👍
Yes my gynaecologist was worried HRT would flare up my fibroids and cysts and endo but meno doctor insisted it wouldn’t! This is why I feel so distrustful of it all xxx

I hope you get some answers and will follow your thread.
It’s horrible not feeling great and sometimes worse & most GPS don’t know much about it either
Members on here have more knowledge and I always come on here and ramble on to make my self feel better
Sometimes these symptoms can wear you down too much.
I’m hoping that I see some improvement or I will give it up & maybe try again some other time
I hope you improve and I hope these patches are good for you :)

I've just started in evorel last Thursday and I feel worse than I did.

For years I was on premarin 125mcg with the mirena coil and felt fine until the hospital said since I was 52 it was time to stop, it all went downhill from there and in June I went to my gp in agony, with insomnia, moods swings etc etc etc and she put in evorel 50, which seems really low but we'll see how it goes
I'd like to follow this link to see how you get on Lisa
Take care xox

Hi ladies,
I’ve had to stop the HRT.
Diarrhoea for four days, the peri dizziness I was suffering from about a year ago has come back with a vengeance and a panic attack this morning 😔
Email from a week ago ignored by meno doctor, so I’ve had to stop. Never felt this sad in my life!
Seriously didn’t agree with me.

I'm sorry to hear this Lisa. It's very unusual for a patch HRT to cause diarrhoea as it bypasses the liver and reduces digestive upset so it does seem you are one of the unlucky ones. Could it have been a bug? I hope the diarrhoea has stopped now as that makes you feel horrible and isolated too!

I hope you get a reply from doc soon. Have you had a look at the endo and fibroids forums/websites for as much information re using HRT with these two conditions so that you are clued up on what treatments are available to you and find others in the same situation?

Hi Lisa
Sorry didn’t work for you and I hope you feel some comfort soon
I initially felt better for few weeks but then like yourself everything came back but I wanted to give it the 3 months to see if it settled .. I almost did 4 then it was way too much for me.
It is about finding somthing that works for us , some are lucky and find the best straight away .. I’m jel
I’m off patch like you now .. it’s early days so far but I feel a tad bit better in myself as I’m not so jittery .. I hope it continues with more of feeling better

Maybe your dose could have been too high to start with.
I do hope you feel better in yourself strangely enough
I ended up with diarrhoea in my second month , I didn’t connect it to the patches , infact I didn’t connect it with anything as I couldn’t work it out.
Our bodies all react differently as we are all unique.. all though we are all suffering this peri
Take care  xx
