No bleed regime advice please
« on: August 26, 2019, 03:13:03 PM »

Hi All,

I've finally managed to see an absolutely lovely gynae after having truly awful experiences with several GPs and my first gynae.

I used to use Elleste Duo (I think) but that made my anxiety go off the charts. Then, it was Femseven patches that fell off every shower. I had a bit more luck with patches staying on with Evorel Conti 50 (I think - these are the patches for women wit a womb).

My gynae asked me if I wanted a no-bleed regime, which I said I didn't mind. I've had horrendously heavy periods for the last decade (I'm 54), but at least they were clockwork regular and I was used to them. They were a pain if I wanted to leave the house, but I could cope. The patches made the periods a bit lighter and still regular but again, I was having trouble keeping them on and finding a place that wasn't irritated.

So, I went away with a pack of Provera 2.5mg to take daily and Oestrogel.

It took literally days for the flushes and sweats I was having with the patches to fade a bit, but the difference in ME physically was amazing. More energy - huge for me as I have MS (well, it's actually Tranverse Myelitis which is similar but most people recognise MS). The MS/TM drains me with fatigue so to have this energy almost flooding through me was amazing. I'd had a similar experience my first month on Elleste tablets but the side effects destroyed me. If you don't have your mental health your physical health is wasted.

I'm up to about 2.5 pumps of gel daily now and still have the occasional flush and sweats, but mainly it's just normal sweating that I combat with Odaban spray in the warmer weather. I still have more energy but it's tailed off a bit like it did with the tablets.

I'm in complete darkness about HRT but have read so many posts here that I know you ladies will be able to help.

I'm bleeding every day - not heavily most of the time but I can never tell whether I'm going to have a fast red flood for an hour or a slow brown dribble. I've suffered with anaemia all my life due to heavy periods so I am a bit concerned about this. I'd love to go to give blood with my partner but they keep turning me away.

The last time I saw the gynae I explained about the constant bleeding so she put me on it for 3 weeks with a week break. I'm now bleeding for 3 weeks with one week off exactly a week after the last pill (during the week off the tablets I have what seems to be a "proper" period). I also can only lose weight the week I'm not bleeding and I'm very bloated the rest of the time. I'm on a permanent diet and it's very disheartening to jump on the scales to see gain when I've been limiting what I eat quite severely (doesn't help my energy either).

Is this normal? I'll be seeing her on the first of October and have been on this regime since early May. On both previous appointments she's asked me to have Mirena put in but I'm really reluctant to do so. I just know I'm going to be one of those people who reacts badly to it. I have a history of PMDD and don't want to start feeling ill mentally again. Plus I have a really awkward cervix that's bamboozled most nurses during my smears but I've finally found a doctor who manages it without a bloodbath that causes false positives and more frequent smears.

Oh, I'm also very ragey after my week's break - I was the same when I first went on it. I've never felt so angry in all my life - for a change I want to kill someone else instead of myself (sorry, joking about it is my coping mechanism).

Does the bleeding stop after a while or am I doomed to this forever more? It's costing me a fortune in tampons and pads (tried a few different Mooncups but they've leaked).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi if you were experiencing regular periods before you started hrt then you should have been put on a cyclical regime, not continuous.  A continuous regime is for ladies who are post menopause...not had a period for 12 months.  I'm not sure what the regime is with Provera, but with Utrogestan you take 200mg on days 15-26 of your cycle. x

Good afternoon onion relish

As Dotty has said if your not post meno you shouldn't be on a continuous regime.

If you wish to continue with Provera the treatment bar at the top of the page states you should take 10 mgs of Provera daily for 14 days per 28 days.

Hi Dotty and Lanzalover. Thanks for replying.

I assume I'm not 100% where I am as I've never been given blood tests, despite asking.

I was 52 going on HRT after missing three periods, then another four several months later. I went to the GP with flushes and sweats that were flooring me and awful insomnia even when I wasn't being woken with sweats and flushes. The joys of womanhood!

The GP just said I was menopausal.

Hi you should have been put on a Sequi regime as you were still having periods . There is no harm in being on a continuous regime but you are likely to get breakthrough bleeding as your own cycle will affect it x

Thanks, Dotty.

I don't know if it's the menopause or Fibro fog or the TM thing but my brain no longer works properly. I'm not taking things in unless they're explained really simply (and often more than once!) these days.

I think I was put on Sequi originally (the patches both had Sequi in their names). However, I have no idea what the gynae is doing with me now. I was taken aback when she asked me if I wanted no periods and told her I was okay with them. I wish I'd been firmer in saying I'd "like" a regular bleed now.

I had a scan last month and my lining is 6mm. I had a letter this morning (which reminded me to come back and check here!), saying my appointment has been postponed until early November.

Am I better off taking the Provera 3 weeks out of 4 as she's suggested and hope this constant loss settles down? I'd read posts here and expected to be taking a tablet 12 days a month. Being given one to take every day threw me! I would rather just have a period once a month if I have to have one at all.

I'm sorry about all the questions (and confusion - I'm really confused so I can't really blame doctors for being a bt confused, too, can I?).

Thanks,

Anne
