Another Canadian Newbie
« on: August 07, 2019, 01:43:56 AM »

:'(so here I am....at 68 I was completely caught off guard by VVA.  Never heard of it and certainly never expected to find my vagina was non existent and my vulva had disappeared.  After getting 3 UTI's back to back (never had one until then), I was informed I had GSM (VVA).  From there my life went to hell in a hand basket.  Have been put on Vagifem but because I am so severe, pessary insertion causes sores and trama.  My doc. put me on Estragyn which helped vulva immensely but still stuck with a sore painful vag.  Sucks! I am so glad I found this site and hope to get beneficial info from all of you.  Thx. for listening.

Hiya what's up with this.   :welcomemm:
Sorry you're having such a horrible time. I've not experienced the level of problems you have, it sounds awful so hopefully some of the other ladies who have suffered greatly with VA will come along and offer you help/ support. Maybe another post on the main section of the forum with a different heading might help? Sometimes the new member posts get missed.
Best wishes

Thank you ladies for your support.  I am searching for options.  Pharmacist said Vagifem is 'old school' and not right for everyone.

Ah in Canada - what did the Pharmacist suggest instead, I would ring and find out.  Then let us know [in case we're missing something  ;D].

Read the threads about bladder issues and vaginal atrophy.

Did you have infections?  Were the urine samples sent to a Lab. to be grown?  No other way of finding out if you had infections.  VA mimics urine infection-type symptoms really really well!

Hi CKLD....Estragyn which is an estrofied estrogen.  According to my GP and Pharmacist one of the better newer products.  Unfortunately applicator caused irritation so GP also put me on vagifem.  As for UTI, I ended up in hospital with kidney infection and yes they did cultures.  All positive!  Urologist was useless...all he said is "you're atrophied".  Good news is no UTI's since starting on Vagifem/Estragyn.  I was having massive vulva irritation and the Estragyn worked and at least the vulva is a happy camper.  Plumped upand healthy after being totally fused.  Now just vag...sitting on a damn cactus all day!

Yep ........ do you have pain relief to hand, if so take some.  Get as much lubricant into the whole vagina ASAP.  I use LIVE yoghurt which although messy, is soothing.

Get to the Pharmacy to see what is available over-the-counter ......... how is Estragyn delivered?  Maybe put some on the finger and rub gently round the whole vagina, clitoris etc.. Several times a day to keep it moist!

The Vagifem tablet wasn't dissolving so I phoned pharmacist to see if this was common.  She said "Vagifem is old school.  Much better products on the market and Vagifem helps some and not others".  Estragyn seems to be the nouveau cream but applicator caused cuts so my Dr. told me to take Vagifem for inside and Estragyn for outside.  Dr. also told me to use Vagifem every day for a month.  Pharmacist felt it was way.too.much Vagifem.  Noone seems to know.

Hi Whatsupwiththis

:welcomemm:  Sorry to read about the problems you are having.

If the vagina is dry vagifem tablets can fall out this is because they are designed to stick to the wall of the vagina where they dissolve. You could try using some lube before you insert the vagifem and this may help.

I would go with what your Doctor has prescribed and use every day for a month the normal instructions at the beginning of use are every day for two weeks and then twice a week but there are lots of women on here who find after the initial loading dose two a week are not enough to keep things comfortable so some use it every other day and there are ladies on her who use it every day it's a case of finding a what works for you.

Good luck and I hope things improve for you soon. Do let us know how you get on.

Thx. for everyone's input.  Vagifem seems to be causing more agro so might just try Estragyn again and see what happens.  It's reassuring that many of you have found relief after different products and I'm sure I will too.
