We’ve got a similar system where I live. We have separate bins for recycling, but the compartments don’t seem to fit everything efficiently. I’ve also faced issues with items like textiles or specific plastics, either they’re not accepted, or they just sit around because I’m unsure how to dispose of them properly. I try to repurpose stuff like jars for storage instead of tossing them.

For more ideas, I’ve started looking at an eco-friendly blog that dives into practical sustainable solutions for daily life, like better recycling practices and zero-waste tips. It’s been really helpful for simplifying things around the house.

Textiles.   I take a lot to charity shops or offer them up to local needlework FB groups, same with buttons.

Sometimes plastics are recycled but miles from where I live!

Remill Fibre on their website take any brand 100% cotton items back to be used again. They pay the postage too.

Tnx.  I do wonder where it all finishes up though  :-\ and not on a boat to China etc.

There is a company in Exeter that will take in old candles which they melt down etc..  Then resell the new shapes etc..

Our Council website environmental section sets out what can/not be recycled and what happens to it all.

:foryou:  especially that they take duvets etc., as they are hard to get rid of.  Animal Rescue Centres, unless they have a huge industrial washer/dryer, cant' take bedding because once weed on that's it.

Our local Council decided that the food waste will be separated from the bags which apparently will themselves be recycled.  A bit of a shock then when they find dead birds or rats in our collection  ::).  Until this year food waste went into a digester or was burnt, bags and all.

We were going to buy edging made from recycled tyres ...... to tidy up the borders in the garden, however the edging is too thick  ::) but at least it's out there.  MayB if we were beginning from scratch we would be able to dig deeper B4 inserting the tyre edging pieces.

Two government schemes aimed at cutting energy use by insulating homes were botched on a vast scale, a spending watchdog has found, leaving tens of thousands of homes in need of remedial work.

According to the National Audit Office (NAO) 98% of homes that had external wall insulation installed under the schemes set up by the previous government have problems that will lead to damp and mould if left unaddressed.

Nearly a third, or 29%, of the homes that were given internal insulation also need fixing, it said.

Energy Consumer Minister Martin McCluskey said the government was taking action and that the homes would be fixed "at no cost to the consumer".

Mohammed Mahedi, who had external wall insulation fitted to his Luton home two years ago, is living with the consequences.

External insulation involves insulation boards being fitted to the exterior brickwork of a house with render then applied to make it waterproof. It goes wrong when rainwater becomes trapped behind it.

No risk assessment there then!  >:(

Which bit of 'stay at home, use Zoom' doesn't William get  >:( :

The Prince of Wales has revealed the five winners of this year's environmental Earthshot Prize, calling them an "inspiration that gives us courage".
Prince William said their work was "proof that progress is possible" during Wednesday evening's awards ceremony in Rio de Janeiro's Museum of Tomorrow.

I think that if William wasn't Heir Apparent he would be up there with 'just stop oil' protestors.

He is now telling the World that we 'should all consider our choice of travel'  >:(.  These activist-types never listen to their comments or believe that they apply to themselves, what's Keir Starmer doing there?  He should be here, sorting out the UK.  Did he and William share a private plane?

What happened to ZOOM meetings  :-\ ..........

Yes, I agree, I love William but I think it’s wrong when people buzz off thousands of miles to these cop thingies. The bishop of Norwich went to 26, and I just remember thinking WHATT?!?!?! Why are they all flying here there and everywhere all over the place. Big oil industries are never going to stop either all the fracking. It’s a no win situation.

There really is no need for any1 to travel in order to put over a point, they should lead by example - over ZOOM  >:(.

Whilst we breath and fart we cannot 'go green'.
