Rage.
« on: September 16, 2017, 01:45:06 PM »

hi all,

I haven't posted for a while. I'm using Mirena and Estrogel. Have been since Jan. Still bleeding on the Mirena at least 7 heavy days a month.

But I'm back to feeling really, really short tempered and prone to flying off the handle at small stuff. And my insomnia - or specifically, 4am wake ups, has returned.

No sweats or flushes. Just the above.

Seriously thinking of coming off HRT and dealing with it all alternatively. If it's not doing much to help the above and I'm bleeding - which I hate - what's the point?

Just wondered if anyone had something helpful to add?! X

Do have a read round the threads in the Alternative room B4 making any decisions.

Sorry to hear the Mirena hasn't stopped your bleeding and somehow you are feeling full of rage! HRT definitely shouldn't have this effect - ideally it should energise you for more of the time than it doesn't - although there may well be side effects for a small part of the time. If these outweigh the benefits then definitely time for a change. I presume you are still peri-menopausal - hence the monthly bleeding? Maybe the dose of oestrogen is too low but the bleeding suggests otherwise? I can't remember whether you tried utrogestan - I seem to remember you might have done? I would suggest you get checked out with your GP first because if you are bleeding this heavily even with a Mirena - it should be looked at I would say? Then depending on the outcome try to get a referral to a menopause clinic. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi no heroics,

I'm afraid I can't offer you any advice re HRT as I'm relatively new to it, but just wanted to say I understand how hard the feelings of rage are to deal with.  For me it was a constant feeling of seething anger for absolutely no reason whatsoever.  I'm on a low dose of Estradiol (and Utrogestan) which has taken the edge off it and give me back a bit of my old self, but just the feelings of totally irrational anger are enough to drive you 😡 mad aren't they.

I do hope you can get some relief from this the early waking too.

Best wishes xx

Hi no heroics,

I have had to have coil removed due to the moods, have had two before no problem but this time horrendous moods , very sore boobs and daily headaches. The protestgrone will be the problem, with the fluctuation of the hormones

I have not done the hrt but you may need more to balance the progesterone

Hi Noheroicsplease sorry to hear you're still struggling.  Some good advice there from Mazza and Hurdity; maybe the mirena just isn't suiting you (you definitely need the bleeding checked out either way), or maybe you need more oestrogen to balance it x

Hi all

Thanks for your replies.

I had a scan back in June because of the bleeding (at the time I was bleeding 3 out of every 4 weeks). All was fine.

Regarding the question, am I perimenopausal, hence is that why I'm bleeding still? I find it odd to answer - I didn't have periods for nearly a year before having the mirena inserted, so my feeling is that I was not peri, and therefore it doesn't explain the constant bleeding. I also have tried upping the estrogen and it made no difference and I felt worse (very sore huge boobs, headaches).

I don't feel terrible. I just don't feel great. I'm tired and my libido is shit. I thought HRT would help with both of those.

I really am considering coming off it. I had my bone density scan done again - I was borderline osteopenia/normal two years ago. This time - after really upping my HITT workouts and taking more calcium and eating even better (was always good) I've managed not only to stop it worsening, but started to reverse it. It can't have been the HRT because I've only been on that a few months. Most of the past two years, I've had no periods.

Anyway. My head is bursting with what to do. What if I take out the mirena and things are worse?!
