Hand-bags
« on: May 20, 2017, 02:55:41 PM »

I can't seem to find one that suits my age  ::).  I have 5 lovely bags but they don't have pockets in them so everything ends up at the bottom, in the dark  :P ....... that's keys, tissues, note book, pen, mobile etc. etc. etc..   I have put my meds., nail file and small stuff into a see-through wash bag but it's the day-2-day need-in-a-hurry things that I keep losing ........  I bought one from a Charity shop a few weeks ago with lots of pockets but as it's black .........  I also like one that will slip into a supermarket bag-4-life when shopping  ::)

I like cross body bags, I need both my hands free whether it be shopping, walking the dog, out with the grandchildren, whatever  :)

Cross body bags for me too, except when dressed up. I do have a holiday one which has heaps of pockets. It's not huge, but big enough for what I need. It's a security one, but shopped around & got it at a reasonable price, around £25. They can be quite expensive. Also got a mini one in a lovely baby blue colour.

Kipling bags are good. They always have lots of compartments, pockets and come in all different sizes and colours.

I don't really think that there is such a thing as an age appropriate handbag....well except for the night clubby ones.

Have you tried a shallower one CLKD. The depths are not so deep. Funnily enough I don't like too many pockets as things just disappear from view. I like a shoulder bag but not an across the body one as I seem to get in a tangle. Not difficult for me  ::)

That's the ones Megamind.  Short of digging it out the cupboard, I couldn't remember the name.

Age CLKD  :o - I've never thought of handbags in those terms but for me -  a prerequisite for all everyday bags like Megamind says - is to have numerous pockets and compartments. I have one small very compact but roomy one ( a kipling copy) which has so many compartments I spend half the time undoing zips trying to find where I've put something - I use this one a lot for going abroad and use cross body for passport, money, pills, specs etc.

I have a lovely big tan leather/suede one (bought in Clark's sale a few years back) with pockets inside, zip on back flap on front with zip on flap - lots of compartments - it's great. I can put a bottle of water, raincoat, book, clementine, small flask of coffee, mug milk in it ( well maybe not quite all at the same time!

I've also got a big floppy Kipling one ( bought about 15 years ago on the ferry!) but tend not to use this one much. Have various leather ones - one from Spain - but it smells a bit of hide, and others but only use about 3 of them.

However I'm not one of those who has handbags as fashion accessories so when I suddenly have to go somewhere and take a smart one - I'm stumped! I have one smallish Italian woven leather one ( with broken top zip) that usually does the job :). Ive never had a clutch bag! I like to be hands free  ::)

Um......well.....I have a navy-and-beige one to go with my navy clothes. a red-beige-and-gold one to go with my red, brown, pink or peach clothes, and a black one to go with anything black.  Whether or not they're useful inside isn't nearly as important for me as whether they compliment the outfit.  ;D   I know - no hope for me, is there?    ::)

I've been let loose on London, complete with small over the shoulder bag for purse, Oyster card and inhaler and a small ruck sack housing my waterproof mac, London book, drink etc. I learnt my lesson well and truly in NY when my rucksack was stolen in a cafe from under my chair, but fortunately my small bag was still attached to me complete with purse and cards. The thief got my spare pair of pants, sadly not dirty! On normal days I use a small rucksack, with a clip for keys which is useful as keys tend to have the ability to hide in any size bag. I do have a posher bag for the few occasions when I have to dress up. Rarely gets an outing!
