Took my hubbie to Iceland for his 50th...fab for long weekend...blue lagoon/geysers/waterfalls/PMT...wonderful. I got bitten on the boob by a mosquito and thought it was a breast lump doh. Did week in Vienna this year. Great for kids. Zoo aquarium. Cheap as chips Lidos where you swim in river. 34'C. Heaven. Didn't stress once the whole week. Back two weeks and Im a big fat mess again. If only life were one big warm holiday..

Hi dulciana

Yes I love Lanzarote in fact we own an apartment in Playa Blanca which was was once a little fishing village but has grown over the years but still retains a village feel in the town centre.

There are lovely little villages in the centre of the island well worth visiting and little villages on the coast with just a few fish restaurants overlooking the sea which are lovely for lunch or dinner while watching the lovely sunsets.

If you ever decide to visit let me know and I'll happily give you more info on places to visit.

That sounds really lovely, Lanzalover.  Thanks for describing it for me!  And sorry this reply is late, but I've only just read your post.

Hey Cazikins......Yes about the Northern Lights it you choose the right time and weather is clear. I loved Reykjavik. It was only 90 minutes flight from Glasgow with Iceland Air (They do great package deals with hotels). When you land the place looks like an extreme Scotland but everything is so weird, un-European....Women all 6ft blondes, Men all have beards, everyone goes out until 2am but the streets are so quiet. Great place for a 3 night break; Blue Lagoon / Island tour / Whale watching...sorted. And not nearly as expensive it eat out if you shop around...same as here...whale burger anyone (Yes really but no I didn't). Happy Days.

Hi Salad

Kefalonia is my husband's favourite place, he's been around 16 times (I've only been twice) and loves it.  We stay in Lassi which is lovely and has a beautiful beach.  What makes Kefalonia very special though is the people, they're really friendly and love the British.  Hope you enjoy your hol x

Thank you Yorkshire Girl - I'm going to do a bit of reading about the island.

And that's so good to hear Peri- it must be alright if you've been more than once  :D

From my research so far the only bad reviews are people saying it's a bit quiet- which is just what we are looking for  :sunny:

Yes November is a lovely month to visit we have been every month except February although we don't go in July and August now as we try to avoid school holidays (sons all grown up now) and post meno I find it to hot.

We have gone in November for the last six years or so as Tias the village above Puerto del Carmen holds a mini tapa week you get a map and a list of bars and restaurants participating you go in and for €3 get to sample their entry plus a glass of wine or small beer you then get them to stamp your entry and when you have sampled them all you vote for your favourite prizes if your entry gets picked out.

The week starts on a Friday evening and they have bands playing and dancing in the town it's a really good night but the bars do get very busy that night  so we usually end up going back one afternoon to try and visit the ones we didn't get to on the Friday last year there were about ten participating bars, but each year there seem to be more.If you are ever over again in November it's well worth a visit.

You've made me want to go in November - tapas😋😋

Great to hear about everyone's holiday plans!

If anyone finds some good weather can you please send some northwards. I have summer clothes which haven't seen the light of day yet.  ::)

I did go away camping and have been away for 11 days but the weather was mostly rubbish!! So much rain and wind! Hope you managed to wear some summer clothes cubagirl - we kept hearing how the weather was better in the north but not sure if that meant Scotland or just N England! Good to get away though...

Have never been away on November except to visit offspring in England! The warmth at that time of year would be very tempting!

Hurdity I know Scotland have had more sunny days than south west, but here in Yorkshire it's not been great, not had as many showers/rain as some parts but it's the wind that I'm getting fed up with!

It sounds lovely & I know hubby is so keen to go . I think I'm going to have to think seriously about us going there soon.
I did whale watching in Canada years ago & it brought tears to my eyes as it I got so emotional, not sure I could eat a whale burger though  :o
I'll check out the package deals & see what's on offer.

I've just driven back through the Leith Docks part of Edinburgh, past lots of of holiday-makers from the cruise ship that's in dock at the moment.  It's fun to think about what nationalities they are, where they've been, where the ship's going on to, etc.  I'm also wondering if any of them managed to avoid the short, sharp shower that the heavy, dark sky turned into just after I reached our front door!   ::)  This must be about the third cruise ship that's been in dock since our failed attempt at an Irish holiday a few weeks ago - it almost makes me feel like a holiday-maker myself!   It also makes me feel proud to be an Edinburger and happy to see our visitors.  So, if anyone on here is from that cruise ship, welcome to Edinburgh!   :)

If we have obviously 'foreign' visitors in our region I open up conversation by asking how many languages they speak  ;)
