I think he is just surprised I'm sitting here. It wasn't doing me any good lying looking at picture on bedroom wall and checking my body for signs I was anxious/ok. I used to love being on my own but realise at minute I need company to heal my anxious mind.

Well done coldethyl. I too can retreat to my room when feeling anxious but I've recently been reading up on how panic disorder can gradually begin to incorporate an element of agoraphobia which isn't just a fear of going out as people often think of it but also includes a fear of being with people, even family members, and other situations. Have you explored this part of anxiety and panic?

That is familiar to me as my mum suffered from agoraphobia for years. I still remember her best friend coming all way from Paris to see her family and us and being made to hide upstairs under bed because mum couldn't answer door to her. I have always forced myself out as I could see how easily life could contract to these four walls but last few weeks have just wanted to hide away- I think it being Christmas and son home and me not wanting him to see me like this made it worse. I'm going to try and go into town alone tomorrow if the delivery I'm expecting comes in morning. If not I'll try to go to the pub quiz I do on Monday evenings.

Little steps.

I started healing by going into the store alone, looking at items then leaving with out buying anything.  Worried more about being tapped on the shoulder re shop lifting  ;D
There are medications to ease anxiety - I have found Bachs Flower Remedy mouth spray useful!  Deep breathing can help.  Walking from the situation, usually for me up a quiet alley  ::) and then once calm returning.  I do better if I'm alone (apart from DH).  Don't have to justify myself then ;-).

We have ponds.  I can sit by them OK as there is plenty to keep my eye busy ……..  :-*

Thanks for reminding me about Bachs Flower remedy . I used to use that and it seemed to help. Just bought a book on breathing exercises as I am a chronic hyperventilator so that is my next project. I've a friend who is a GP in the outback and he messaged me last night and said that the best things I can do are eat right, rest and sleep, exercise and meditate or similar so I'm looking at a Mindfulness course at the end if this month and am determined to get back onto my treadmill.

Glad you had a good day CLKD xx

I managed to cook dinner for 7 - and that means lots of standing which I coped with.  I also sat at the table and ate a reasonable meal,  felt relaxed,  felt normal.
( apologies to those who don't know what I'm on about - long long road to recovery from a perforated bowel xx )

For shallow breathing: SING GIRLS, SING …………… I used to be able to whistle for hours so must practise again!

What was the question again  ;D
Oh - went and had blood taken for cholesterol this morning, never even flinched, the person was SO good!  Next week I have 'the talk' …………. will report back if I remember  :-X

I'm a chronic shallow breather Coldethyl, it certainly aggravates anxiety and feelings of panic as well as physical symptoms.  Im trying to break the habit as that is what it's become.  I even notice I stop breathing altogether at times!

Yes it certainly does make it all worse - sometimes it's just my breathing that sets the whole cascade of anxiety off. I find I hold my breath a lot when I type on my iPad then I take a huge breath and feel all weird.
I'm waiting to talk to a CBT counsellor tonight so managing to phone them is the one positive thing that I've done - also going to GP.

I waved bye bye to DH (won't see him till Wednesday evening) and took DD back to uni this morning, and managed to hold it together - no sobbing. :)

Go GH - you are an amazing woman!

I practice yoga breathing techniques - great for calming the mind and body. This needs to be taught by a proper yoga instructor as there are some health restrictions on the types of breathing techniques used.

I woke this morning with no anxiety - even thinking about the usual 'triggers' didn't cause that knot in the gut  :bounce: and so far I've been, apart from a bit of a wobble - OK  :-*
