Mine were given strict rules when we went away. As far as we're away they did abide by them. Always told a neighbour too, just in case.

Well himself is doing holiday searches, though still not decided where. He was asking DD for ideas. Her reaction same as mine, there's a whole big world out there we haven't seen.  ;D

I'm accompanying my elderly dad on a trip abroad later this year.  He's been invited by friends there.  Where to?  Well, let's hope lightning really never strikes twice in the same place, because we're going to Kuala Lumpur.  I'm very much looking forward to seeing the people we're going to be staying with, but I've never done a long-haul flight, I dread the humidity and I'm now scared about flying.
Apart from that, I'm looking forward to seeing the place, sampling the Malaysian food and buying some nice bits and pieces for the folks back home!

You will love Kuala Lumpur (KL) and its a short hop to Penang. I have travelled all through Malaysia to KL and then to Penang stopping for a few nights in the Cameron Highlands. Loved it there after the heat down below, they even grow strawberries.

The people are so friendly and the food is fantastic, lots to buy at Amah's Markets if you like jewellery and cut and uncut stones.

There is the heat and humidity and it is a bit of a shock, I lived there so got use to it, but is a good idea to prepare for it.

You will have a wonderful time, google tips for a long haul flight, please don't worry about flying its the safest mode of travel, you risk your life far more getting into a car each day.

KL has so a very interesting Colonial past, I remember it for the stately  white government buildings, wonder if they are still there.

Silverlady, thanks very, very much indeed for this, especially the Health and Safety link.  Wow, that's food for thought!  I don't think we'll be going to the Cameron Highlands but we'll certainly be going around the place, so it's really helpful to have all this advice.  I'll read, re-read and inwardly digest!
 :thankyou:

Just back from our city-break in Istanbul - what a fascinating city :)  We managed to cram a lot in - the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, boat trip up the Bosphorus and even managed a real Turkish Bath, quite an experience ;)

We'll be stopping at Istanbul on our way to Kuala Lumpur, but only for a few hours at the airport in the middle of the night, so I'll just have to imagine these wonderful things, Greyhoundgal!  I'm glad you had such a super time!

The airport is lovely too Dulciana :)  Lots to see and do there as well from what we saw during our brief time there - plenty of places to eat, drink and shop :) :)
