Thanks Suzi Q - very helpful.  I read it to my husband and he is up for it.  He was in the navy for 20 years so is very well travelled but has often mentioned Venice.  Now you see I envy people to go to Venice for the weekend or Spain for a few days!  I make such a meal of booking holidays yet others seem to go away with ease.  We do tend to go away a lot in this country but I often feel with what it costs us we could be a bit more adventurous!
Thank you for your help ladies and enjoy your weekend Hurdity xx

Haha CLKD! No I'm working tonight and tomorrow night and go to two exercise classes tomorrow too - and will pack sometime in between - I don't need much for a weekend but I see from the forecast that there is going to be a massive rainstorm overnight on Sat and rainy on Sun too and it's going to be blazing hot and sunny here in Devon! Hey ho it will be lovely anyway!

Groundhog - thanks - it's quite easy - I booked the flights and daughter booked the accommodation which I researched. It is a big luxury and not the sort of thing I normally do (well not abroad anyway - unless you count Scotland which might be abroad soon  ;D ). I am making up for time bringing up 4 children and barely going anywhere and when we didn't have a brass farthing most of the time!

I envy people who seem to book holidays abroad without a backward glance  :'(. It's hard enough for me to go away for a day sometimes but I do enjoy those days when I feel OK  ;)

You will have a ball go online I can recomend 1000000% Hotel Fiorenze its not exy but not cheap
Ask for a Balconey room if u can get one and its all in small 6ft wide lanes and u go thorugh a small arch and there it is 18th cent hotel b ut with modern plumbing and servises the breakfasts last oyu all day
If oyu land at Leo airport get the launch across to Venice its so magical
Tell u what get the TOURIST film with Jon Depp and Anjelia watch it and Venice is shown 90% of the film
Im happy to have helped and I know u will love it u need 4 days or so to enjoy it properly or u will be just like me OH god I want t stay another couple of days there so much to see and do and also eat HUGE slices of PIZZA by hand for 3 Euros they are the size of half a family portion Pizza and everyhting is FHUNGI Mushroom

Not quite a holiday but I'm meeting a friend in London on Saturday and going to the Royal Albert Hall to see the English National Ballet perform Romeo & Juliet.  We try to do it at least once a year but had to miss last year due to family commitments so really looking forward to this now :)  We're going to the matinee performance then a quick spot of retail therapy followed by an early dinner before we both get our respective trains back home.

I've been in touch with hotel we are going to for our holidays. Very helpful bunch.  They are going to get chef to speak to me on arrival regarding my dairy free diet.  But the best bit is they are going to provide complimentary Champers & Birthday cake for hubby's 60th.  Now I imagine the champers will be sparkling wine & the cake will be small, but very good of them.  Mind you I probably won't be able to eat the cake, but he will & that's what matters. Be a nice surprise for him.

Thanks CLKD - bit anxious about the tube but luckily when I get to Liverpool Street it's straight onto the Circle line to South Kensington, no changes anywhere thankfully.  Looking forward to it now..... :)

Enjoy Greyhoundgal.  Sure you'll be fine, but understand your anxiety.

Eight more sleeps then I'm off  ;D

Can't go too far with things being the way they are but it's a holiday and a break from normal routines.
