It's madness if you are over 50  ;D.

The thing that really puts me off is when you lift the groundsheet and discover all the creepy crawlies that have spent the night there. Gives me the shudders.

I share a bed with a creepy crawly every night  ;) WHT some nights  :(  ::)

Our camper is cosy.  Just big enough for 2 although we had a first 'words' when he left stuff in the doorway so I was standing outside trying to get back in ......... we need to practice  :P

We tried a double air bed and double 'bag'.  Because he is heavier than me when he got off the air bed I would be launched into the air  ;D and there was always a draught down the bag because he sleeps on his side, therefore leaving a gap from his shoulders ....... so separate bags for us  ;)

Do you not have a built in bed in the van CLKD ?.

In my sister's caravaning days she used to make sleeping bag liners. You were in a bag in a bag. She said it saved having to wash sleeping bags. They were terrible. Double cork screw  ;D

It's a people carrier conversion.  So the back seat pulls down to make the bed.  DH can pull it, I can't  ::).  We have a sheet to lay on, pillows, a sleeping bag each …….. whilst I'm in the toilet block DH takes the bags up, puts the bed into day mode and tucks the bags etc.. away underneath.  We have curtains, blown air heating, a small cooking area ….. see i800 Hyundai people carrier Wellhouse conversion ……… the front passenger seat turns around for ease of sitting.  Porta potty tucked away in the day time  ;)

It's just you mentioned a blow up bed so I got a bit confused  ::)

Sounds cosy.

Oh that was years ago (we tried)  ::) ………. when the double air bed got a hole in it we bought 2 singles.  Much better as we could pump them up as required per weight of person.  Also we didn't go for pillows in the beds as they were harder to sleep on if the bed was fully pumped.  Used those in the garden in later years when it was sunny  ;)

So sorry, but  ;D ;D However, I also sympathise. My hubby is a duvet hogger & I hate draughts round me in bed. Camping is not for me though, whether in a tent or a van. Neighbour hired a Winnebago & said it wasn't too bad.

We have choice.  We can B&B, camp, stay at home, go out for days with the van or car …….. we used a tent because we couldn't afford B&B.  I sort of enjoyed it.  Then we went self catering so that the dog came along; then because of panic I didn't go anywhere …….. then hotels so it was less personal, followed by B&B and now the camper …… but it will take a while to get used to communal toiletting  ;)

Haven't been camping for a couple if years. I think this is likely to be the last time we go as a family.  :'(

We're thinking about buying a caravan or camper van once the kids start doing their own thing :)

We have another week to play with... I fancy somewhere warm and sunny  8)

Sounds fun CKLD. I'm hoping for brekky in bed. Anything else after that is a bonus!

Make sure that you have somewhere close to park a caravan/camper.  Otherwise the spontaneity is taken away.  We spent 6 years looking at different 'vans before choosing ours.

Good point. The driveway will be less busy once the kids have flown the nest  :)

They do have a habit of flying back though. My son has just gone for the third time and my daughter went last year but is coming home again. It goes on for years so don't be buying anything quite yet  ;D.

Then there is the leaving them at home while you go away and just hoping  ::)
