And why do I feel so guilty about not enjoying buying what my mum called "duty" presents?
Sorry but can I ask why you buy them? I'm not sure what a "duty" present is but I'm sure that I wouldn't buy them if I didn't enjoy it!  ::) :-\ ;D

I think I will put ours up on the 17th and then it stays up till the 6th - even if everything has fallen off it!

Hello Bette, I mean that it's Christmas so we have to buy presents for the family as it's expected. My mum used to say that a present means so much more if bought and given spontaneously rather than because of the date on the calendar, so during the year if I saw something she or dad would like I gave it to them there and then.

I don't even get much pleasure out of buying presents for my kids, as I find it a chore, and that's where the guilt comes in! I'm supposed to do it out of love, not duty, aren't I?

Hubby and I don't exchange presents by the way.

I only buy for my immediate family & their other halves plus brother's grandchild nowadays.  I gave up with my niece & nephew ages ago.

I send my nephews money.  Don't bother with cousins.  I agree, give a gift because it's suitable not because of the date !

Yes Littleminnie you are all welcome.
I love New Years Eve or Old Years Night as we use to call it.

I make a lovely White chocolate trifle.

Mine goes up around the 18th although for 2 years, due to a re-arrangement of lounge furniture, I haven't had a tree  :'(.  This year I will be clearing a small table so that it can stand in the usual corner  8)

Haven't put up any decorations for years  ::) Usually ends up with Mum arriving on Xmas day to see the pile of cards in the corner and she then puts them up. I just don't get round to it!

I bought once of those hanging metal card holders in the shape of a star.  A card arrives & in it goes.  Can't be bothered with all that lifting & laying to dust.  :)

I usually put the tree up about a week before Christmas.  Not sure what will happen this year though now we have a cat, it may not be up for long.

"to dust" - now I know I've heard of that activity somewhere before but can't for the life of me remember where.......  ;D

When I could see our cat's paddy paws in the dust I used to know it was time: now that we don't have cats  ;D
