Does very low vitamin D cause anxiety?
« on: February 25, 2015, 02:18:27 PM »

I have just found my vitamin D to be only 18 and at the same time am quite down and very very anxious also weak and shaky. But my present period is also the period from hell when I thought they had stopped.
I cant get docs to attribute my anxiety to the vitamin D deficiency, more over they want me to take more antidepressants and have councelling. right now I just want to stop shaking from morning till night. I only feel OK if I sit very still. And my blood sugars are crazy right now keep falling.

Have your docs suggested tackling the Vit D deficiency? And, if so, how to go about it?   If you are able to do this and find that it makes no difference to your anxiety then would you have your answer?

(I take supplementary Vit D to aid absorption of supplementary calcium - both are prescribed by my consultant)

Yes tiger I am on 40000 per week for 8 weeks. I can work out if my shaking is anxiety or the deficiency.

Sparkle it also says on the packet 500mcg so I m having 1000mcg per week.
My anxiety has gone sky high, recently but just had the period from hell and felt like I was getting surges every hour. Last night it just switched off, so I'm only half as crazy today. Lol

Last year my level was 18 too and I was prescribed a similar dose as you. However, a few days later, coincidentally, I saw a neurologist who was an MS specialist who'd done lots of research into Vit D and later an endocrinologist. Both the consultants said my Vit D deficiency was a 'red herring' and could not cause the level and type  of symptoms I was experiencing, especially as my problems were not constant. I took the Vit D just in case, but saw no improvement in my problems, especially anxiety, til I started HRT. I was found to have low estrogen.
