Tiblone - help please
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:02:58 PM »

Hi all Im new to this forum but not new to the symptoms and difficult gp's, have been having really bad symptoms mainly brain confusion, anxiety and urinary issues, eventually went to see private guy last oct who prescribed fem conti which sent me into major depression after first few weeks so had to come off them, in desperation went to see another private guy who was very good and prescribed Tiblone, It was amazing for about a week, as if someone had turned a light bulb on in my head, I have had to go down to 3 days at work due to confusion and loss of confidence, went to petrol station the other week and didnt put petrol in my car !!!! couldnt remember how to drive back to the office while out on visits, I manage a large team and this is very unsettling.  Any how I must stop moaning, I felt in a constant fog with no motivation to do anything, coudlnt remember anything and generally thought my life was over.  It was also affecting my relationship badly and family life.

To cut this story short |I took the Tiblone and was amazed that within hours |I could feel my old self coming back it was truly amazing, I had about a week of this and everyone saying how well I looked and how much better I felt, then back to normal, now have horrible PMT like moods and migraines on an almost permanent basis, along with swollen legs and hairy face !!!!

I have always had trouble with progesterone, severe pmt only better in pregnancy and was wondering if anyone else with similar symptoms to me has had this with Tiblone, Im not sure what to do now, have I given it long enough to settle down and do its job which it did brilliantly for a few days or is this it and I willl just waste my time with no improvements in symptoms

Sorry for the long rant but I just feel so fed up with it and it was amazing to know that I am still in here somwhere as a normal person which lused to be full of life and wanting to do things.  Hope some of you may have gone through similar things, the specialist said if this doesnt suit me |I could go on Oestrogen alone with a break every 3 months. anyone done this and is it better.

Thanks for listening to my rant xx  :(

Hi Lucylockett and welcome to MM
I tried Tibelone at one stage and found it good but I broke out in acne which I really couldn't live with so had to experiment with other HRTs. I'm afraid extra facial and body hair is another of the side effects of Tibilone :-\  I ended up with a Mirena and Oestrogel.  I did feel slightly sedated for a while with the Mirena but it was the best option for me at the time.
Your story is fairly typical for women who really react badly to progesterone. I know the 3 monthly regime is not ideal but it may be worth a try for you. Your other alternative would be to try one of the non HRT preparations.
Do read up all the info under the headings to the left of this screen - particularly about the various treatments and get back to us with questions.  DG x

Hi lucylocket.

I was on tibolone for just over 4 months after i got ovaries out.  On the whole it was ok ish. I had no probs with it other than it just didnt produce enough oestrogen to relieve me of my symptoms mainly flushes, insomnia and tiredness.  I had contacted dr currie for advice and she confirmed tibolone only has weak estrogenic properties.  What you eat and drink can affect its production.  So maybe you are just simply needed a more measured dose of hormones.

Changed meds early sepno on  on 100mg utrogeston nightly 2 pumps of oestrogel nightly.  Symptoms all gone with 10 days.

I would ask your dr if this regime would be suitable for you.

Let us know how you get on

I tried Tibolone, but it didn't help and I developed acne. I saw a private gynaecologist. I have found progesterone a problem too, but now take Provera for 12 days every 3 months as the progesterone part of HRT. I can delay taking it if I am going on holiday or whatever. Actually, I felt a lot better than I did on other HRT, even through the progesterone cycle. This may be worth discussing with your gynaecologist.

Hi lucylockett

You haven't told us much about yourself e.g. your age, where you are in your menopause etc.
Using a long cycle HRT may be good for you to try.
Good luck  Dg x

Hi Luckylockett

We have a busy Doc surgery too two-three weeks waiting for appointment.

Just a suggestion ring and ask to be contacted if there is a cancellation made, as long as your not worried about who you see in your practice.

Good luck
